Los Lobos Documentary in the Works
- No release date set for in-production “Los Lobos Native Sons”
A Los Lobos documentary, reportedly titled “Native Sons,” is in production.
News of the film emerged in both AARP the Magazine and the Gotham as the band celebrates 50 years since its 1973 founding.
There’s no release date and the documentary, co-directed by Doug Blush (“20 Feet from Stardom”) and Piero F. Giunti, is said to be in the production stage. It will be based on “unprecedented, exclusive access to the band and their personal archives,” per the Gotham.
“Over the last 50 years, Los Lobos has been on the road nonstop, telling these stories that are universal to all of us, reminiscent of the great Woody Guthrie,” the directors said in a statement.
“Our film gives us the opportunity to share this vision with the world and to demonstrate how this legendary American band has stood the test of time. We’ll also show how they’ve proven themselves in the eyes of their industry peers such as Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Carlos Santana and Bonnie Raitt, many of whom list Los Lobos as their favorite band.”
AARP spoke with Cesar Rosas and Louie Pérez as they took “a break from shooting a documentary about their career,” and, incredibly, didn’t ask one question about the forthcoming film. The magazine did, however, ask about what’s kept the band going for five decades.
“When you put it all together, it has to do with musicianship but also with the soul of what you’re doing,” Pérez said. “I think that’s the vehicle to communicate your message. Without the soul, you can play your ass off and it won’t mean anything.”

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲

Revati being the nepo baby, expanding on the foundational wealth that was initially built from nothing from Uttarabhadrapada, to Ashwini coming from old money; it makes sense that Ketu nakshatras' roots come directly from Mercury nakshatras. No wonder I'm specifically seeing the spoiled rich brat from generational wealth theme coming up in Ketu nakshatras. And then Mercury nakshatras, as I explored in my Mercury Dominant Themes, having a responsibility of carrying and expanding the wealth and power that is passed onto them, or they have to rebuild it or prove their worth for this.
In Jyestha, being a very dry nakshatra, they usually start from nothing. And when they rise up, the accumulation tends to be too extreme and significant.

And we know that Jyestha is the billionaire nakshatra.
After Jyestha, comes Mula. And Ketu, naturally being draining of resources, can be the greedy spoiled brat. In the media, I see Ketuvians being children of billionaires or coming from old money. But the spoiled brat trope doesn't even have to come from generational wealth either. They'll be spoiled regardless.
For example, Mula Sun Cheryl Chase voices Angelica Pickles who is a spoiled brat and the cousin of Tommy Pickles and Dil Pickles who she bullies and manipulates for her own gain.

Ashwini Sun Selah Victor voices Chloé Bourgeois who is the spoiled rich daughter of Paris' former mayor, André Bourgeois.

Ashwini Moon Ashley Peldon was the speaking voice of Darla Dimple. Darla is just like Chloé Bourgeois and Angelica Pickles, in fact. She is a spoiled little demon who is extremely privileged.

And then Magha Moon Lindsay Ridgeway was the singing voice for Darla Dimple.

Mula Moon Emma Roberts plays Poppy Moore who is a spoiled American girl who comes from a very wealthy family.

Being Ketuvian, she lacks boundaries and her father basically enabled her into being a chaotic materialistic 'monster', so he sends her to boarding school in England where she finds the meaning of life.
The character Azula is voiced by Magha Sun Grey DeLisle. Azula is a very wealthy and spoiled princess. She comes from a powerful bloodline.

Magha Moon Helena Bonham Carter plays the Queen of Hearts who is a very spoiled and obstreperous character. Much like Azula, she is royalty, and if you cross her, you're good as dead. She must get things her way... or else ☠️.

Ashwini Moon Leighton Meester plays Blair Waldorf who literally comes from old money, and she is considered to be very spoiled. And power driven.

Magha Sun Blake Lively plays Serena van der Woodsen who also comes from old money. She is also considered to be spoiled.

Mula Moon Victoria Pedretti plays the character Love Quinn who comes from a very wealthy and powerful family.

Mula Moon Eleanor Tomlinson plays Sylvie in the series One Day. Her character literally comes from old money.

In Through My Window, the Hidalgo brothers are played by Mula Moon Julio Peña, Mula Sun Hugo Arbues, and Mula Moon Eric Masip. All three of them are heirs to an empire.

In the film Meet Joe Black, double Mula native Claire Forlani plays the daughter of a multimillionaire (who's interestingly played by Mula Moon Anthony Hopkins) who could come from old money.

The film Soft Top Hard Shoulder is written by, and stars Ashwini Sun Peter Capaldi. His character is a struggling artist in London who comes from a very wealthy family.

Ashwini Moon Sarah Snook and Mula Sun Jeremy Armstrong both play one of the Roy siblings. Their father is a billionaire.

Ashwini Sun Phoebe Dynevor, Mula Moon Hannah Dodd and Ashwini Sun Jonathan Bailey play one of the main Bridgerton siblings who literally come from old money.

In the film Awake, Ashwini Sun Hayden Christensen plays a scion of a wealthy banking family.

Ashwini Moon Cate Blanchett plays an heiress in the film Oscar and Lucinda.

The character Patrick Bateman is played by Ashwini Moon Christian Bale. Patrick comes from extreme wealth. All he's ever known was being wealthy. Yet this life he lives suffocates him even more and he turns to sociopathic tendencies.

The character Lily Reynolds is played by Ashwini Sun Anya Taylor Joy. She literally comes from old money, and much like Patrick Bateman, she does show dissatisfaction with her life (and that's due to her step-father who she plots to murder).

The character Rory Gilmore is also said to be spoiled as she gets everything handed to her by her wealthy grandparents. She is played by Ashwini Moon Alexis Bledel.

Mula Sun, Mula Moon Jodi Eichelberger voiced the character Stingy who is a possessive collector and the son of the wealthiest person in LazyTown.

Mula Moon Jaclyn Linetsky voiced the iconic spoiled brat, Caillou.

Caillou is not taught boundaries, much like the other Ketu nakshatra examples. Others are more extreme, such as Azula, Darla Dimple or even Angelica Pickles. Actually, it's very interesting that a lot of their parents end up fearing them. Or the Ketu native control them (like Chloé Bourgeois overtly controlling her father).
This also just explained why Ketu exalts in Jyestha. Jyestha puts out a lot of heat and energy, while Ketu sucks in energy. Here, Ketu is at its powerful level. This is why this placement is also seen in billionaires and indicates extreme fame.
Although, this trope can be a lot more nuanced than that, as seen in the Ashwini characters such as Lily Reynolds and Patrick Bateman. Ketu can also involve overcoming generational trauma as well, being that Ketu nakshatras deal with getting to the roots. The old money simply signifies the theme of "roots" (in Mula coming from Jyestha).
In Azula's case, she comes from a very powerful, domineering family lineage. Her ancestral roots are very sacred and symbolic to her, being Magha nakshatra. For all her life, all she's known was power (and being spoiled).

Ketu constantly pulling in energy (even to the point of destruction as it's a shadow planet), we see just how power hungry and domineering of a force she is.

Growing out of the spoiled rich brat archetype, Ketuvians also embody the golddigging archetype as well. Any archetype that has to do with draining resources. Example of this is the character Daniel Plainview from There Will Be Blood, who is an expert at extracting oil (and stealing lands), being a former silver miner and oilman.

Throughout the film, we watch as he crawls under the weight of all the wealth and resources he's accumulated and drained from others. Essentially living a life of emptiness and dissatisfaction. He's played by Ashwini Moon Daniel Day Lewis.

Stars of David have been found graffitied on buildings in the Paris area, in acts that political leaders have said "recall the 1930s".
Some 60 Stars of David were painted on walls in the 14th arrondissement of Paris on Monday night.
France is grappling with a big rise in antisemitic incidents.
More than 850 such acts have been reported in France since the Hamas attacks in Israel on 7 October, says Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
Paris authorities announced that an investigation into degradation of property aggravated by racist intent would be launched.
"I am crying, because I am once again seeing the hate that we received when I was a child," a resident of one of the buildings graffitied told the broadcaster BFMTV. "I can't understand it."
In a statement, the mayoralty of the 14th arrondissement wrote that the acts "recall the events of the 1930s... which led to the extermination of millions of Jews".
Emmanuel Grégoire, deputy to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, said the stars would be removed and an investigation launched.
"Antisemitism continues to kill," Mr Grégoire said. "We will never give up the fight."
Separately, a woman was critically injured after being shot by police on Tuesday morning. Officers claimed she was behaving in a threatening way and refused to comply with instructions.
Similar graffiti was also found in Parisian suburbs including Vanves, Fontenay-aux-Roses, Aubervilliers and Saint-Ouen. The stars were sometimes accompanied by inscriptions such as "from the river to the sea, Palestine will win," according to reports.
The Mayor of Saint-Ouen, Karim Bouamrane, called for the authors of the "antisemitic and racist" graffiti in his city to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Prosecutors have cautioned, however, that it is still unclear whether the stars are antisemitic in nature.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne condemned what she termed "disgraceful acts".
The sharp rise in antisemitic incidents worries 83% of French people, a poll for BFMTV found.
Political leaders, including President Emmanuel Macron, have warned of the risk of "importing" tensions caused by the Israel-Hamas war into France.
About 400 people have been arrested for antisemitic acts this month, Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti said Sunday.

Inoue-Fulton: Stephen Fulton Last 5
Incredible fight week coming up at the end of July w Inoue-Fulton and Crawford-Spence happening w/in a few days of each other. To spread out the fun, we’ll start with the previews a bit ahead of time. Today I’ll have a look at Stephen Fulton’s last 5 looks.
CoolBoy beat Isaac Avelar in Edinburg, Texas (the fight capital of Hidalgo County) in August of 2019. He wore an interesting white, navy blue and brown trunks, with bronze Grant gloves and florescent yellow shoes. A bit of trunk detail below:
I like the color scheme (even if the random inclusion of brown is a bit Charlo-esque) and I like the CBS CoolBoy Steph logo. Shoes obviously a bit questionable.
In January of 2020 Fulton won a unanimous decision over Arnold Khegai in Brooklyn.
CoolBoy stayed consistent with the bright yellow footwear and Grant gloves. His trunks are interesting because the wording is largely on the back while the front contains only an oversized logo and a few patches.
Note the use of the 13 stars for the “O” in Fulton and “Boy” by the Philadelphia native -- a reference to the original 13 colonies and, more specifically, his hometown basketball team:
In January of 2021, Fulton returned to the ring in Uncasville, Connecticut, beating Angelo Leo by wide decision for the WBO super-bantamweight title.
An orange and black theme for Fulton -- impeccably matched trunks and gloves, along with some incongruous footwear:
Fulton’s trunks contained both a Black Lives Matter and an All Lives Matter graphic and text, and the back contained “I Cant Breathe” across the waistband, a reference to Eric Garner.
In November of 2021, Fulton faced his toughest test against Brandon Figueroa in Las Vegas, winning a close majority decision.
A Mexican theme from CoolBoy Steph (aka ChicoFresco Steph) - great look, matching shoes and Grant gloves.
In June of 2022, Fulton beat Daniel Roman in Minneapolis by wide scores.
Fascinating throwback Buccaneers creamsicle look -- light orange trunks, sherbet orange trim and inside flaps, a bit of white fringe along the side and a surprising mint green flap on the back of his trunks. He matched with light orange shoes and orange Grant gloves.
Can’t wait for July 25th in Tokyo!
Respect box.

The technologically savvy older brothers of a slain Texas college student handed over data extracted from social media accounts later used to secure convictions in the case.
Zuhyr Hamza Kaleem, 22, was shot dead then buried in a premeditated killing by former classmates in 2019, prosecutors said.
Jose Varela, now 24, was sentenced last week to 45 years in prison in the death of 22-year-old Zuhyr Hamza Kaleem. Eric Aguilar, now 25, was sentenced to life in prison on capital murder charges last November.
Austin Walker, also charged with capital murder in the case, pleaded guilty and is scheduled for a presentencing information hearing on Thursday, Harris County District Attorney's Office Community Outreach Coordinator John Donnelly told Fox News Digital.
A fourth man, Gannon Gotlieb, was charged with tampering after admitting to burying and burning Kaleem's body on his property in Grimes County, per the office; the status of that charge is unclear.
Varela, Kaleem and Aguilar grew up in the same area near Houston, where Varela and Kaleem were classmates at Cypress Lakes High School near Houston.
Kaleem agreed to meet at Varela's home in Katy to buy two pounds of marijuana on April 27, 2019, per court documents. After closing the garage door, Varela restrained Kaleem and Aguilar shot him, prosecutors said.
"This was a premeditated murder that left a family questioning what happened to their loved one for more than a year," Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said in a statement. "With help from the victim’s family and great police work, we were able to get justice in this horrible case."
CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE FLAUNTS AI IN CREEPY 'FRAUD-FOR-HIRE' COMMERCIAL MEANT FOR DARK WEB
The recovery of Kaleem's body and the group's arrests, nearly a year to date from the murder, were achieved in part due to the investigative work of the victim's older brothers.
Baffled by the Lone Star College student's disappearance, software engineer Umayr Kaleem, 31, told Fox News Digital that his family did not "have the option to just turn the other way and quit" when their brother and his car disappeared.
"We're brothers. We've always been hardworking, ambitious – that's how our parents raised us," he said on Tuesday.
Brothers Umayr and Uzair, a software engineer and mechanical engineer, respectively, learned from a close friend that Kaleem intended to buy marijuana the last day he was seen alive.
After he uncharacteristically failed to return their calls and texts, the brothers accessed his Snapchat account to see with whom he was last in contact.
Valera, saved in their brother's phone as "Jose Cylakes Bayliss Long Hair" – referring to the high school that both attended – was the last person Kaleem had spoken with before his activity on the messaging app came to a halt. After reading a message that was no longer viewable, per court documents reviewed by Fox News Digital, Valera deleted Kaleem as a contact.
AUSTIN POLICE ASK ROBBERY VICTIMS TO CALL 311 AMID STAFFING SHORTAGE, CRIME CRISIS
The brothers accessed Kaleem's phone contacts via his laptop, found Valera's phone number and began researching.
"From there, we started asking around, looking on Facebook, Googling him," Uzair, 27, told Fox. "We found a Facebook profile and it was clear that this was the last person Z talked to – we gave that information to police."
It was "pretty evident," Uzair said, that his brother's killers "tried going into Z's phone to wipe it completely," per notifications on the slain college student's MacBook. Although they "knew they were trying to do some weird s--- on their end," their family "wasn't going to let that happen."
The day after Kaleem vanished, his missing vehicle was observed crossing the border into Mexico from Hidalgo, Texas, per court documents. Almost 10 hours later, Varela crossed back into the United States on foot, police said.
Call records obtained by police showed that Varela had communicated with Walker that day. Snapchat messages between the two pulled by police showed that Varela had asked Walker to bring him clean clothes.
After his arrest on April 24 last year, Aguilar claimed that the gun went off accidentally after Kaleem pulled it out in an argument during the drug deal – but prosecutors argued that the killing and subsequent robbery had been planned over a period of weeks based on harvested text and call logs.
Moreover, the brothers told Fox News Digital, Gotlieb testified that, as he buried the man's body, he noticed Kaleem sustained a bullet wound to his hand as though he had raised it in defense.
"These defendants thought they had gotten away with murder and had moved on with their lives, but they had not counted on the victim’s brothers and law enforcement relentlessly pursuing Kaleem’s whereabouts," Assistant District Attorney Tiffany Dupree said in a press release. "This family went an entire year, pining away, praying for their loved one to come home only to find that his remains had been burned because of some marijuana and a couple of hundred bucks."
Uzair and Umayr told Fox News Digital that Valera's sentence – 45 years in prison with parole eligibility in 2033 – "didn't make any sense whatsoever."
"I think everybody in that courtroom was absolutely shocked," Umayr said. "Even just the prosecutors, there were tears in their eyes. The family is horrified. This person pleaded guilty to premeditated murder. [But] he'll be... on parole less than 20 years from today. He'll be right back on the street."
In light of the "absurdly light" sentence, he said, it's "incredibly hard to be happy."
"The worst prison in the world is a home full of pain – that's all there is, just pain," Umayr said. "We go to birthdays, we try to celebrate things as a family, but it's always awkward. It's been years but that awkwardness, that pain is still there."
Uzair told Fox that his brother intended to transfer to the University of Houston and study business. The courtroom in both Aguilar and Valera's trials, he said, was "packed" with his brother's friends and family.

Rewind: Los Lobos - Kiko (1992)
Editor’s note: on the occasion of Los Lobos bassist Conrad Lozano’s 70th birthday, Sound Bites takes a listen - and a look - back at Kiko.
When the list of perfect albums is finally made, Los Lobos’ Kiko will be high upon it.
Released in 1992 amid grunge and just ahead of emo, the band’s sixth album pays no mind to what’s going on around it and finds the Wolves taking giant leaps from where they’d been before. And that’s saying something, given the exceptionally high quality of records like 1984’s How Will the Wolf Survive? and 1990’s the Neighborhood.
But the magic that would be Kiko was evident even as the band recorded with producer Mitchell Froom and engineer Tchad Blake at the helm.
“It took on a life of its own, in front of us almost as if we were observers,” Louie Pérez said of the album years later.
A collection of 16 numbers, 14 by Pérez (lyrics) and David Hidalgo (music) and two from Cesar Rosas, Kiko spirals out like a timeless sound wave that carries everything that came before and foreshadows the future. In doing this, it’s still like nothing before or since.
It’s not only because of the songs - which are exceptional. Froom and Blake experiment with lo-fi production and sound effects - somebody seems to be shot between the hard-rockin’ “Whiskey Train” and the decidedly Claptonesque “Just a Man” - that would characterize 1996’s Colossal Head and the Froom-Blake-Hidalgo-Pérez side project, the Latin Playboys.
Opening with the polyrhythmic percussion that signals “Dream in Blue,” Kiko lays it out from the onset with Hidalgo’s angelic tenor and Steve Berlin’s baritone sax creating a serpentine dreamscape that leads perfectly into “Wake up Delores.”
Pérez takes a rare turn on the mic for the “Saint Behind the Glass,” a traditional-sounding, flamenco-Mariachi mix that looks back at his Catholic upbringing, while Rosas does his blues-rock thing on “That Train Don’t Don’t Stop Here” and “Wicked Rain.”
The balance of the LP is dominated by nominal singer/guitarist Hidalgo, who plays accordion on the south-of-the-border shimmy of “Kiko and the Lavender Moon;” banjo and violin on the Appalachian back porch stylings of “Two Janes;” and beautiful six-string leads on the (mostly) acoustic instrumental “Arizona Skies” and the wobbly, woeful “When the Circus Comes.”
With a dent in my soul and a hole in my heart, Hidalgo sings on the latter - a prime example of Pérez’s penchant for descriptive lyric writing.
After 50 minutes of traversing the American musical landscape, it seems right the Wolves would end with the Spanish-language “Rio de Tenampa.” Anchored by Froom’s House of Keyboards La Chilapeña Brass Band, the track wraps Kiko with a Mexican-American flourish and a nod to Lobos’ by-this-point-distant beginnings.
Los Lobos’ discography is full of treasures and pretty much every record is worth exploring. That said, neophytes and/or people looking for just a sampler of the band’s power must start with Kiko.
It’s destined to be high on the list of perfect albums, after all.
Grade card: Los Lobos - Kiko - A+
