Thanks to the help of so many of you both here on Tumblr, and on various discord servers, I was able to lay a lot of groundwork into discovering my identity. Y'all ever think that Ex probably spent a lot of his time in the overworld wondering how much longer had before inevitably getting kicked out again. They understand that X has to put his people first so they don't fight it, but being banned at the drop of a hat can't do nice things to someone. Especially if X gets especially trigger-happy after season 8, and begins banning him the moment he acts out in the slightest. Eventually, he starts having panic attacks and convinces himself that attacking someone or lashing out to get banned is a good idea, because at least this way he can have some control over it. Except the more he does it, the more difficult it is not to lash out at the slightest urge, making his stays on the server shorter and shorter, and his time in the void longer and longer, until he sneaks off one day to live in the middle of nowhere so that he can't hurt anyone and consequently can't be banned. This works out about as good as it possibly can- Ex's mental health plumets and his anxiety and paranoia skyrockets, but at least he's on the server for a solid 5 months. And then a hermit happens upon his little hovel, and Ex can't do anything but scream and run, convinced that if he even stays in their presence he'll be banned. And then the concerned hermit goes and reports back to X that something's wrong, and X comes out to check on them, only for Ex to panic worse because they're certain X being there means they're getting banned. And X is stuck there with a panicked clone who's going back and forth between lashing out, and begging and hurting himself with no clue what's wrong or how this happened.

Hey there, I'm just tossing an idea out. But your memory-vibes personally remind me of the Zero Escape series. Spoilers incoming of course, but I know you don't mind: In the first one, a major character creates situations that do indeed cause a lot of suffering for people she deeply cares about in order to create a timeline where she survives. In the second game, she is revealed to have done something similar, but this time in order to try and save the world (more or less?) but in doing so, damns countless iterations of people she cares about, and herself, to doomed timelines. It's rather bleak. The third game takes place between the first two chronologically, but I have not personally played it.

So, I'm sort of suggesting Akane Kurashiki, but other characters from the series like Sigma, Phi, and Aoi might be worth looking into. Sorry if someone's already brought this game series up- feel free to ignore this if so!

This ... Actually explains a lot of the things I've been feeling as of late. Really-- I can't thank you enough for reaching out, I'll have to look a bit more into the source material, of course. And I'm also sorry for the late reply. I've been in the hospital the last 11 days, and I've just gotten home. (I'm planning to explain everything that happened there more in depth because I had some revelations but I didn't want to be rude and not answer)

i vaguely had a sense coming of age in the 10s as a homosexual teenager that i was lucky to have esaped the worst of the era of anti-gay discrimination, that if i had been much older at all there was considerably more risk that i would have been effectively ostracized from society or forced to hide who i was, or some combination of both. but that the battles my predecessors had fought meant i could live relatively openly, with much less fear of discrimination and violence. and that in time, i would live to see generations after me where gay kids didnt have to be afraid at all. i still believe that to be true.

and my development of an understanding of trans rights as a political cause was informed by this, that the battles would be hard fought, and there would be setbacks and times when everything moved backwards, and that after a few decades (or, hopefully, sooner) we would be in the same position with respect to trans rights that we were now in with gay rights. and while i was certainly sympathetic to the cause, i was glad i didnt have to worry about going through that myself and had the luxury to merely support others in their struggle.
