XM has low trading fees for CFDs and charges no withdrawal fee. On the other hand, forex and stock index fees are only average, and there is a fee for inactivity. We couldn't find a way to download them.

Mobile trading platform

XM offers MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 mobile trading platforms. Similarly to the web trading platform, we tested the MetaTrader 4 platform on Android. Once you have downloaded the MT4 mobile trading platform, you should access the relevant XM server. Just like on the web trading platform, you can choose from many languages on the mobile trading platform as well. Changing the language is a bit tricky on Android devices, as you can do it only if you switch the default language of your mobile. Search functions The search functions are good. You can search by typing the name of the product or by navigating the category folders.

Desktop trading platform

For desktop trading too, you can use the MetaTrader 4 and 5 platforms; we tested MetaTrader 4. It has the same design, is available in the same languages, offers the same order types, has the same search functions, and offers the same portfolio and fee reports as the web trading platform. The desktop trading platform doesn't have two-step authentication; however, XM provides a two-step account login procedure on the website where you can deposit and withdraw funds. The major difference is that you can set alerts and notifications on the desktop trading platform in the form of mobile push and email notifications. To set these, you have to add your email address and mobile MetaQuotes ID (you can find it in the MT4 app's settings). You can add them if you go to 'Tools' and then 'Options'.

Markets and products

XM is a CFD and forex broker with a great number of currency pairs available for trading. However, the CFD selection is lower compared to some XM alternatives. GBPUSD finds resistance after employment data, USDCAD rallies

UK Claimant Count Falls Far Below Forecasts

The UK Claimant Count Change was 23.7K, down significantly from 95.5K forecasted and 102.3K previously. The positive result indicates that the employment situation is improving as we await the unemployment rate, which is released a month later. Despite the positive news, the UK employment rate for those aged 16 to 64 was 74.8% from May to July, which is lower than last year's forecast.

Following the release, GBPUSD found resistance after the price retraced from the 1.31 pivot. The price is testing the ascending trendline and looks set to hit 1.3 soon. If the price can close below 1.3, it will have significant space to drop further before the next major pivot at 1.2850.

EURGBP has risen from the 0.84 level this week and has broken out from the descending trendline. The price pulled back to the descending trendline to find support and looks likely to rise towards the 0.85 pivot.

Bank of Canada Governor Speech Highlights Major Trade Implications

Tiff Macklem, the Bank of Canada Governor, spoke on Tuesday at the Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce in London. His speech was primarily about how global trade is being impacted by digitalization and geopolitical tensions.  He mentioned that the pandemic, Russia's invasion, and climate change have all made supply chain resilience a greater priority, even at the cost of efficiency.

After the news, USDCAD rose test the 200 SMA (blue line) and 1.36 pivot. However, the price will probably find resistance soon around the 1.36 pivot which saw rapid bearish momentum last month.

GBPUSD climb higher on retail sales, AUDUSD breaks 0.6670 on hawkish RBA

UK Retail Sales Rise pushing GBPUSD Up Quickly

UK Retail Sales rose from -0.9% last month to 0.5%, with 0.6% forecasted. The result measures the change in the total value of inflation-adjusted retail sales and is a crucial gauge for consumer spending. Significant contributors to the increase were large department stores and sports equipment stores, which rose following summer events like the European football championship.

Sales grew by 1.1% for the quarter to July 2024 compared to the previous quarter. Meanwhile, non-food stores, including clothing and household stores, grew significantly as consumers looked to buy summer vacation items.

Following the news, GBPUSD rose from the 1.2750 pivot as it broke through the 200 SMA (blue line). The price looks set to push higher to test the 1.3 level for potential resistance soon.

EURGBP rebounded sharply from the 0.86 level and 200 SMA (blue line) last week as the price declined from the descending trendline this week. The price will likely continue to descend to hit the lower descending trendline and 0.84 level soon.

RBA Governor Speech Pushes AUDUSD Higher Rapidly

RBA Governor Michele Bullock gave a major speech regarding inflation and the economic outlook. She mentioned that an agreement was made with the government that the best way to lower inflation would be to target consumer price inflation between 2 to 3%. Regarding the economic outlook, Bullock said it remains “highly uncertain” whether inflation will return to the target range late next year.

After the news, AUDUSD continued with strong bullish momentum as the price found support from the ascending trendline. The descending trendline nearby coincides around the 0.68 level and looks likely to provide resistance.
