Hi, I heard that the donghua Athy will have prophetic dreams instead of being a reincarnated person and that Lucas will probably remain in his adult form all the time( I hope this is not true I want to see baby Lucas but considering the first pv, i think it will probably be true, hopefully not). I fear that their dynamic will change and Lucas is gonna catch pe*o allegations now 😭 even though they were two adults pretending to be kids.

The first thing is pretty much confirmed, going by the donghua's summary, but the details are unclear. I don't know if the "LP timeline" was only a vision or something more, it's too early to tell. As for Lucas only staying in his adult form, I don't know what makes you/people think that?

Lucas was introduced in his adult form in the novel and manhwa, and he is wearing the same outfit in the PV, so it seems to me that that'll be his introduction scene. I guess we'll have to see if he keeps his younger form, but the donghua's summary confirms that they will fall in love, so I doubt the chinese team will suddenly make it weird? (Especially when chinese media is heavily censored, which is likely the reason the plot was adapted to be less violent). Let's also remember that Lucas used his adult form multiple times in the manhwa, so if people disliked that, um, it's nothing new?

I know you mean no harm, but part of me feels like I shouldn’t even address this possible "discourse" because it's way too dumb. Some people have called novel and manhwa lucathy problematic before, for multiple reasons, all of them idiotic, so I'm sure they'll find a reason to dislike the donghua version too. I don't care, and you shouldn’t either.

We should just cancel Claude for the 1000th time.

Almost all isekai/time travel manhwa have an odd aspect since more often than not the protagonist is (mentally) way older than her love interest. No matter what, that's an element the writer can't avoid, but I think lucathy is one of the few pairings where this doesn't happen, because of their circumstances (Lucas slept for centuries so his body's age and his mental age are very different, plus he is a magician. There's no reason to think this will be different in the donghua. And Athy has her whole reincarnation thing. We'll see how that plays out.). Despite all of this, you have no one calling athykiel or other manhwa ships (I could give plenty of examples but I'd rather not) problematic because Athy/the FL is (at least) a (mentally) 30+ yo woman thinking a teenager is attractive. That's because manhwas are not that serious. Unless we are talking about the Princess Mint one. That one was weird and I don't like it.

The Cruelty of Novel-Ijekiel’s Rejection.

Thinking about how in the past, novel readers conveyed that Ijekiel rejects Jennette as softly as he can while apologizing for hurting her, telling her he thought of her like a sister. Funny how that works. I proceeded to read said rejection scene, and it literally explains how blunt and cold he was to her, and how it sets up for the climax when she then reaches out to Claude in desperation.

Got a quick translation online, but in no way is this a soft and polite rejection. Was Jennette also harsh in telling him that Athy won’t reciprocate his feelings? Yes. However, what she spoke of was only the truth about Athy, and frankly her judgement of Athy’s behavior as Athy’s best friend—a best friend of the girl, who Ijekiel knows nothing about aside from short conversations. Athykiel does have moments in the novel (half of them with Jennette as the topic of conversation), but they don’t nearly have the closeness as the Athykiel moments in the manhwa. In response, Ijekiel is the one who throws a fit instead by responding in a way he knows will hurt Jennette the the most—apathy, before throwing all of his bottled up feelings at her and even going so far as to practically blame her for why they’ve ended up this way. We dive into Jennette’s psyche multiple times through the novel, and Jennette asks Ijekiel’s input a lot but you can tell that all she wanted was the truth from him—the truthful, unkind, and bitter Ijekiel. She tried to give him outs, to give him opportunities to tell her his true feelings instead of dodging around them for false kindness, but he never takes it. And then when she gives him a reality check—and right after he confesses his jealousy to Athy of her only talking about or asking for Jennette—he’s the one who snaps and dumps all of the bitterness inside of him onto her.

Jennette expected him to get mad, to be upset disgusted or show some kind of ugly emotion because that’s what she wanted from him all along—just the littlest bit of truth after dancing around with false smiles for years. But instead he’s cold, unfeeling, spouting out what was the result of pent up bitterness and jealousy recklessly, and they’re back to square one. He put up another facade while speaking a myriad of things he’s bit back whilst somehow managing to spin her words and blame her.

He speaks as if he was the one giving in, as if she was this child blissfully unaware as she was trampling on him, babying her even now but the truth is she’s an adult, and has been for quite a while. Perhaps he has been forcing himself to be kind to her, but he honestly believes that was suffering—that in his whole life, while getting to know the world and traveling and meeting friends from other countries and cultures that this little girl asking if he actually liked her, was suffering. He was no protector of hers—if the slightest chance arose, he quickly abandons her among jealous strangers or predatory men and gives away things she’s fond of for a woman he hardly knows. He thinks of Jennette as lucky, as a girl who’s had everything she’d want, and what of him? He, who was given freedom by his parents, opportunities to expand the knowledge he’s so proud of and to grow and learn—while she was locked inside a house that didn’t even belong to her. She receives dresses and presents she did not care for unless it was chosen by him, and he had the same luxury but thinks even less of it unless it’s a means to gain Athanasia’s fervor.

His rejection is cold and full of criticism of Jennette, yet he’s the exact same as her. They’ve been dealing with and exhausting over each other’s falsities, yet he can only see his own. Jennette lays it out, Athy will ignore you just as you ignore me. And he coldly bites back, I ignore you because you ignore me—not seeing that she ignores him exactly because he ignores himself. He held himself to standards no one had placed, forcing his emotions and his behavior in a way no one wished for. Jennette does not even wish for Ijekiel’s love when she tells this harsh truth to him, yet he assumes she is doing this because of so. In turn, he is also blaming her for everything—the reason why I forced myself into this corner, the reason why I’ve exhausted myself, the reason I cannot have Athanasia’s love, is all your fault. Even though Athanasia accepting Lucas’ advances was of her own accord, even though he was the one continuing to uphold that false mask of kindness she easily saw through, even though these feelings had been bottling up for ten years and no one but himself stopped him from conveying them to her before he had gotten to this festering point—he makes it Jennette’s fault.

He rendered Jennette into a vulnerable position, by doing exactly what he had done in the past. He spoke words of, under normal circumstance, would sound like presenting equality: “let bygones be bygones”, “we’re two people”, “I’ve hurt you only because you’ve been hurting me”—such phrases, you could almost call kind. Yet he is repeating exactly what he had done before—speaking ‘kind’ words while upholding a mask, rending said kindness useless. As the words flowed from his lips, in reality he was taking away any semblance of standing on equal footing by upholding that unfeeling mask while venting his frustrations onto her, blaming her for ending up like this. Jennette isn’t a fool, she hasn’t been for a while now so she can see the underlying messages he’s trying to convey—that there is no future, no equality, no way to finally open up with the truth and their true selves. He will leave her there, abandoning her, alone with the same kind mask as before while spouting cruel words.

That is not kindness, nor whatever neutrality he framed he was offering—this is cruelty. And he knows it.

Okay but no actually. Athykiel is so Enemies to Lovers coded. Or at least Academic Rivals to Lovers. I've only been able to read the Manhwa, but seeing their interactions, especially in their younger years, just. Exudes that energy. JUST IMAGINE. Athy and Ijekiel constantly competing, even after the time skip. During the dance, instead of Athy being uncomfortable they just keep questioning each other on their knowledge of various topics. I would find that so hilarious as they are dancing so gracefully. Everybody is head over heels with their beauty while the two in question are at one another's throats. The moment Athy sees him again after his overseas study she is immediately on him on what languages he has learned and what she has done more of. Athy and Ijekiel looking like they are having a polite conversation when in reality they are so passive aggressive it's funny. Ijekiel teasing her by perhaps almost leaning in for a kiss before pushing himself away and asking a question on the paper she is doing (I'm delulu). Ijekiel falling first but having so much denial that this is the person he likes due to the whole Jennette scenario (she did nothing wrong), but also the fact that this is the girl that he has been competing against since day one when he thought she was an angel the day she rejected his/his father's offer to hangout because he wasn't smart enough. Ijekiel fell first but I can definitely see Athy falling harder. Just. I want to see their banter and fun conversations and teasing that we only got to see towards the end. They are both such sweethearts and they deserve a little silliness. They deserve to have the pining and rivalry that all Academic Rivals to Lovers get. Just. Ashsjshksbjsmks

I’m pretty sure I’ve already said it but I do think that while manhwa!Lucas did say he would destroy the world if anyone were to kill Athy + that everyone says he would follow Claude’s path (killing everyone + freezing his heart + erasing his memories), I don’t think Lucas would actually do it?? Because yeah Claude and Lucas are really, really similar (in their back stories + personalities) but also (novel!)Lucas promised himself that he would never end like his master (not being able to stand his loved ones’ deaths) but also because that’s just not how he is. When the Athykiel dimension!Athy chose Ijekiel, Lucas never did something about it (like Claude did when Diana chose to give birth over living with him) and Athy doesn’t even seem aware of his feelings for her. He just accepted that was how things were going to be and silently stayed by her side (even telling her that after all, he is her only friend and telling himself that she would forever be his special someone) and respected her choice (he didn’t even try to pick a fight with Ijekiel like everyone would expect him to) but also also because Lucas just wants to do what Athy wants him to or would want him to because he always has her best interest in mind (in the novel, asking lily and Felix to keep an eye on her so that she doesn’t spend too much time with blackie, getting the world tree’s branch for her and Claude, giving her Nox, in the manhwa helping her with the ritual, sparing Anastasius, saying sorry to Aeternitas, etc etc etc etc) and wants to respect her wishes and opinions (see for example the fact that even after ALL novel!Aeternitas did he didn’t kill him). Also in the very improbable and hypothetical situation that Athy dies during childbirth, I very highly doubt that he’d ever resent their child given that 1) it���s his child 2) it’s Athy’s child 3) it’s their baby (in the novel) 4) he knows how much Athy suffered because of Claude’s actions and wouldn’t repeat them 5) he was also resented and isolated as a child because of accidentally hurting a family member (his older brother) as a baby and knows first hand of unfair that kind of treatment is and *someone duck tapes my mouth shut* MGTMRNMMMh…..

He couldn't help but hold the stem of the glass a little too tight and thinks back to when he first met her in the corridor of the palace.

Right then and there he had wanted to ask for her hand in marriage, but he knew his family wasn't on the best of terms with his majesty.

His father was always pressing for him to choose a fianceé, Jennette looked up at him with hopeful eyes, and he turns away from her, pretending he didn't know what she meant when she tugs at his sleeve.

The taste of wine on his lips meant nothing when her highness was so far away. He could still remember the scent of roses when she stood close to him in the library as he held a book in his hands, her hair swaying in the breeze, dust highlighted in the golden light of the sun.

She was always so polite. He adored that about her, but still. He wanted her to call him by his name. How would it sound upon her lips, "Ijekiel."

He couldn't say it in his head even now, but still, instead of her highness, he wanted one day to pass the drawn line of courtesy and into familiarity, to love in her voice.

He didn't want to wish any misfortune upon her but if she could just take a little fall, for him, oh, how thin her ankles looked from afar- he would dash in and support her with all he had, just so she would be able to be right in his sight.

He hated the flies that buzzed around her every second and wanted nothing more than to be able to use magic to fling them out the arched windows spanning the ballroom. To mangle their bodies until their own families wouldn't be able to tell who they were.

Every potential marriage suitor that had a higher rank than him was unnerving in his eyes. Wishing he could get a rank from achievements on the battlefield was useless when they weren't at war, and he graduated top of his class at the academy but would that be enough?

She wanted to caress his hair and twist the silvery strands in her fingers with all the gentleness she could muster. She wanted him to be blindfolded, settled back against silk sheets as she rained down kisses upon flushed skin.

She narrowed her eyes, just a hint of what lay hidden rearing up as she released the pressure on her palm to reveal the deep red crescents about to bear blood.

The Alpheus family had always been so... wealthy. What would happen if she were to take that away?

Athanasia's smile is bright as she entertains a guest, thinking of how desperate Ijekiel might become, perhaps enough to beg for her help in recovering his family's honor.

He would only be able to rely on her then.

She would just bring about...ruin, when it was least expected. She would make him hers.

She was the angelic princess who was perfect in his eyes. Of course, he loved her. If he didn't love her back then what was the point of letting him stay here in Obelia?

If he tried to leave with another girl, she didn't know what she would do. Not really.

Would she drag him back to her side by threatening his father? His place in society? Would she gag him to make sure he would never say anything to her, even if she wouldn't be able to hear his wonderful voice anymore?

Would she chain his legs and feet together so he wouldn't be able to do anything else but look at her? Would she risk crippling him to make sure no one else could have him? That no one else...would ever want him, besides her?

Then, would he know that he was indispensable to her? That he was her only? That he could never escape from her gaze because she would hold his chain in her hands and whisper to him how much she loved his everything?

let's talk about athy and ijekiel.

has anyone else realised how sad this ship between athanasia and ijekiel actually is?? I was listening to The One that Got Away on spotify and realised that this song suited them so well, Ijekiel loved Athy for two lifetimes but never got her, and there's the lyrics be us against the world, because it seriously does feel like the world is against them being together e.g. there's Lucas, the whole Anastasius arc and they both come from noble/royal families.

in the bridge, there's also i should have told you what you meant to me, cause now i pay the price. In "Lovely Princess", even though Ijekiel loved her, he didn't show it nor did he try and protect her and so Athy ended up being executed by Claude. Now in the second lifetime, it feels like he's come to accept it, because this is his "price" for not showing how much she meant to him. Of course, he doesn't remember the first timeline but it still kinda tears me up.

the same goes for other second male leads in webtoons, they loved the female lead but never got a chance. you don't even have to ship athykiel to know how sad and heartbreaking this is :(

That Time The World Exploded

The events before Obelia went BOOM! With a side of angsty Athykiel, because yes.

Ijekiel stared at the ring in his hand the day of his marriage, thinking of a girl with flowing blonde hair and a smile like a thousand rays of sunshine. Today was the day he’d marry Jennette and become Prince Consort. His father was ecstatic at the notion of the instant elevation of status, but Ijekiel himself was still thinking of her. Emperor Claude’s first daughter had died a year ago today, as had his heart. Athanasia had been the love of his life, but she was gone for good now, up with the stars. Her name meant immortal, and yet she was far from it. She was his first love and his last, and he’d give anything to be marrying her instead right now.

   But no. He was marrying her sister instead, the girl he’d lived with since they were both tiny children. She loved him, he could tell, and he wasn’t sure he could say no to her at this point even if he tried. After Athy’s death, Jennette had thrown herself into wedding planning as if she could drown out the pain. Not to mention their fathers, both one of whom was very enthusiastic about what this would mean for him, and the other who was killing anyone who even looked at him the wrong way these days. He had considered killing himself before the wedding, he was so desperate not go through with it.

  All this ran through his head as the priest read through his lines nearly robotically, until a sharp voice cut through.

“Hurry up or you’ll suffer the same fate as the last person who disobeyed me.” The Emperor leveled a stone cold glare at the priest who promptly rushed through his line at the speed of light. Athanasia. The emperor was talking about Athanasia. She seemed to follow him everywhere these days, an invisible ghost haunting his every thought. It had been like this when she was living, but now there was an edge of sadness to every thought, a tinge of regret, even though there was nothing he could do.

“Ijekiel Alpheus, do you hereby take Princess Jennette de Alger Obelia as your lawfully wedded wife?”

He knew his lines, and yet he hesitated. He wasn’t married yet. He could still back out now, couldn’t he?

No.

“I-”

Everything got uncomfortably hot as he looked up to the sky to see it an ugly motley of orange and red. That was when the sky exploded.

“Ijekiel?” Athanasia turned to the newcomer. No, it wasn’t his time yet, he shouldn’t be here, and yet… There he was.

As someone who doesn’t really, ship, characters in WMMAP (I always saw it as a family type manwha), I’m once again reminded how LucaJen is so disliked for no reason. My friends are pretty avid shippers, so I’ve come to find it cute.

A lot of people in the fandom seem to shit on people who ship LucaJen and Athykiel though. Which is honestly super disappointing? When both of their dynamics are pretty cute. Most often then not though, it’s because they’re not ‘canon’, whatever that means in the context of WMMAP (the amount of times I’ve seen Lucathy shippers under Athykiel fanart to put it down or invalidate it is kinda disgusting).

After all, since when did shipping ever have to do with being canon? The whole point is to adore the relationship between people who could have been together at any point in time (hell, one of my favorite couples in my story came to be because they were a crackship. Some ships are of people who aren’t even in the same universe). The novel even confirms that in another timeline, Athy DOES get with Ijekiel, meaning it is canon.

Honestly, really hoped Athy didn’t end up with anyone. At the very least, I wanted her to interact with more people her age and not just the two boys that ferociously court her. A girl’s options are never just one or two. I mean, she’s a princess and future empress? Thinking about that one reader I had around last year iirc where they were the most obnoxious Jennette hater you can imagine. Seriously. They were openly cussing whenever Jennette speaks in my react fic and they make it really obvious that they loathe the girl.

Even though I made it clear that I love Jennette and the fic isn’t a Jennette bashing fic. And if you know me, you know that I could not tolerate Jennette slander, especially to that extent.

But anyway, they stopped and apologised because apparently the account owner’s little sister was the one who’s using their account to hate on Jennette in my fic. And even though they did apologise to me... I don’t know why but I can’t trust that person. Especially because they used the little sibling reason on me because sometimes people use that reason even though it’s false.

I feel bad because I do want to believe that it really is the little sister’s fault but at the same time... man...

Also, I think the same account had dm’ed me about why I ship Athykiel. And then they proceed to list down the reasons why they ship Lucathy and that already makes me uncomfortably because it’s pretty obvious that they’re pushing their lucathy ship to me.

Since the start of the romance arc, I feel like we’re watching some sort of competition and lucathy and athykiel are the opposing teams. Every time lucathy gets a scene, their fans cheer. Every time Athykiel gets a scene, their fans let out tears of joy because they feel like they’re winning in life for once.

... As much as I love the manhwa, I genuinely miss how... heavy the past chapters were involving Anastacius and Jennette. Now there’s no tension in the air (except for love) and it’s turned into your average romance fantasy isekai story. I’m one of the people who has always thought of WMMAP as a story centred around family and now that the family drama has been solved, it feels like there’s not a lot going on now, which sucks.

I miss Jennette and Anastacius but apparently we won’t see them until after Athanasia’s coronation... which will probably happen in the last few chapters of the manhwa before it ends.

At this point I’m just here to suffer. While making fan content of my favourite characters as a way to cope.

Please tell I’m not the only one feeling this way towards the manhwa now? I still love it but now whenever there’s an update I’m not as hyped as I used to be? I just think “As long as we get an Athykiel scene, even a short one, then I am a happy person”.
