Can you talk more about Luke being a good parent, please❓ I've seen many hc's about him,but that one is new.
This ask is from Jan 19, I'm deeply sorry it took me so long to reply to this. 😭😭😭 Please know that it's nothing personal, anon. I'm just being a snail mail as usual. 💀🙈
Anyway, when I said that Luke could have been a good parent, I meant I could see, in him, the traits that I deemed necessary for parenting. It's hard to tell because frankly, even I can't comprehend my thoughts that well, but generally, it revolves around his kindness and charisma as a counselor.
It is canon that Luke Castellan, as a character, was loved widely amongst the campers, Percy included. And most of them were teenagers. I don't know about the others but I always find it hard to fully earn a teenager's liking, but Luke seemed to be doing it just fine, even earning himself clout.
Luke had worked as the head counselor of Cabin Eleven for quite a while, so I'd say he at least knew how to deal with the youngsters' common problems and did it well - something I know parents have to struggle with. Have you ever been the head of a group of rebellious ADHD dyslexic half-god gremlins because I'm pretty sure that's like. a nightmare. (not mentioning it's Hermes' spawns) Luke seems to know his way tho.
Luke is, with all respect (which is a lot), portrayed as a manipulative person.
Now, this really depends on how you see it, but I think it's quite a useful skill when it comes to dealing with children - those whose comprehension and emotional regulation skills are yet to develop fully and whose feelings are more often than not all over the place. It requires an ocean of effort to seriously educate a child - you need to guide them but not block their ways; you need to regulate them but not limit them, all the while your children don't even know what they want either bc their brains haven't been fully wired for that yet. It's a challenge. If it was Luke though, he seemed to know how to see through people's feelings and work his way through them - as shown by how he convinced Silena, for instance. To manipulate someone means you know how they work first, and Luke appears in my eyes as someone who can guide people's thoughts, make them willing without outright threatening - which is an invaluable skill bc your children wouldn't want to feel threatened now would they?
Of all people, I just feel like Luke is the first to know how to deal with a child's tantrum in the best way possible - without actually losing/succumbing to their childish requests. He's gentle. He's funny. He's easy to like. I think the children would adore him.
What I'm trying to say is that: I think Luke knows how to deal with children and teenagers and he does it well enough.
Furthermore, when I say kindness, I'm referring to the fact that Luke's rebellion is, well, a rebellion. He did it for the demigods like him - because he thought they needed to get away from their parents: the gods - and when he failed, he made Percy promise the same thing. It is kindness - at least, in my book: the love and compassion for other misfortunes, those so deep that it enables Luke to do many things beyond.
I have talked about this once - about how Luke's motivation for evil plans actually stems from his kindness and it's admirable - and I do think it's an essential trait for a parent. It's love, pal. He loves so much. He would do everything for that love.
The last one: I'd like to mention the neglection Luke felt from Hermes' absence. This is debatable still because systematically if you are hurt, you would either 1/want to do the same thing to others or 2/extremely hate to inflict the same on others. It depends a lot on yourself.
That is to say: Luke, with all his childhood devoid of fatherly affection and later motherly one too, may have the tendency to prevent a similar fate for his children/the younger ones - provided with the fact that he made Percy promise. If Luke had his chance, I can imagine he would try his best to ensure that the children don't feel the abandonment and loneliness he once experienced. He would go out of his way to provide them with love and welcome - be there when they need, protect them, let them know they're loved; all the things a parent can do for their children. Because Luke - more than anyone - understood how hurtful it was to not have that.
That's everything to it, I suppose. I intended to write a few things and I turned out like this. I'm desperate lolol hope this helps anw!!!!

I like Andry Berman
Shawn: I don't want to waste my one piece of broccoli! What's the smallest takeout box you have?
They liked Sage Brocks so much in the one scene in the pilot that they brought him back for the show <3
Little Boy Cat is intersex. It has xxy chromosomes.
The Bloggers!
SF: We generally just don't care.
JRr made up the majority of Dazzle & Stretch & the music ones just... put music to it. That's amazing. I love that. (like how the disclaimer song was made by lixian)
HOLY CRAP I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE he stayed in the same key perfectly. I HATE it when people change keys in movies bc they don't hear what's going on. I mean, a semitone or less, fine that happens but I hate it, a third fourth or fifth because the harmony got you wrong, I get why it happens but I still hate it. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN'T SING! I mean, I grew up in a very musical family, my parents were together because they did music ministry, my dad learned guitar to impress my mom, I grew up volunteering at seniors' centres singing, I tune my violin my ear, in my head everyone should be able to stay somewhat in the same key, even if your voice trails higher or lower while you sing. I can't even make myself sing wrong. (I do sometimes by accident tho, usually when the jumps are odd & i can't find the harmony, & occasionally I get off by less than a semitone bc the note is just not quite on a place I can easily sing, so my voice slips off that tone into a tone I can sing that is very very close so maybe I'm not as good as I think, but I actually consider myself only an OK singer & musician, so if I'm only ok then I expect everyone else around me to be about the same level. It blows my mind that people are not. I guess I'm just used to being the worst in the room, not to show my chip or anything.
AB: This is one of four apartment buildings in all of Canada that can look like it's in Santa Barbara
He's only the heir to Mushroom Barley XD XD XD
KK: Always some sort of homoeroticism
Copaganda go die. Neurodivergent private investigators (Castle, Shawn, Watts & Murdoch for a few episodes each, Holmes,) you're on thin ice. Shawn breaks the law all the time, wdym the network won't let him break the law? You can enter someone's home without permission & lie to the cops about being psychic (though that's hard to disprove bc being psychic is supernatural therefore you cannot disprove it using natural means; you can't judge paranormal by normal laws) but he can't open someone's mail? I mean I'm glad. Don't break the law, don't let cops break the law.
Initially they wrote it so some homeless guy would open the mail for Shawn or Shawn gave it to the cat & the cat opened it so it was not HIM mail tampering
JRr improv: All the way to the bone!?
Shawn multicultural moments: Mazel tov, dial a psychic!
The one time they didn't include a pinap they had to do a reshoot & added in a pineapple smoothie
AB: Next season we are moving on from pineapple, we're taking suggestions. Mango, maybe starfruit
matt shakman my man
XD he actually banged his knee
Carlos improvised the "Why would you put it on speakerphone" bit which like, yeah this is a stress line (not necesarily a crisis line or a suicide line, just a stress line)
JRr came up with the coconut
Oh this is where Gus gets into coin collecting!
There is a beauty salon down the hall from the stress line
No way Shawn is the only non work friend Gus has... He has hobbies, like at comiccon he was greeted by people...
Andy Berman: If I looked like Dulé, I would streak.
Poser.
When shawn first calls vick: First of all, how are you?
McNab plays guitar
It would be a lot easier if the network let us send in the show like "this week it's an hour & a half!"
DH when Shawn says "maybe you should shoot me" gets out from hiding behind him, subtle good acting
"That was adequate" hhh
Chris Henze: McNab in this day & age is wearing sock garters
KK: Someone tell my husband
I like how mcnab is not a big character but he is there. I read a fic once that included francine & little boy cat.
"If we ever see mcnab's apartment again we should see the cat"
KK: There should be like ten of them, he was pregnant, like "thanks Shawn"
KK: Once again, homoeroticism, by Andy Burman.
AB: I write that & don't expect for it to make it through, but it makes it through you & you're like "yeah set it up that sounds good" & then James'll say it & I'm wondering if there was any discussion at all... but it's great
KK: I hear from the network sometimes, they say "I'm kind of concerned about the overwhelming amount of male love on the show"
CH: These guys like each other. They're "good friends"
AB: Well Kelly has a rule, or three rules. They can hug, but they can't close their eyes.
KK: No that's Henze's rule
CH: Yeah you can hug another guy on camera, but once you close your eyes it becomes a little something special.
DH did that, put Gus' finger in Shawn's cereal.
& then JRr used the same spoon.

16) how many books have you read this year?
so much 8, which is pretty low for me at this time of year. last year at least point i had already ready over twenty books haha... i'm not any more busy than i was last year (in fact i am less busy than i was less year) but i've just been more depressed/having more trouble starting books.
THAT SAID i am reading less books but i will say i have been reading a lot more good books. last year i feel like a lot of the books i had were bad or lackluster. and while not every book i have read this year is good, most of them are!!!
17) top 5 children's books?
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
the chronicles of prydain series by lloyd alexander (i know this is 5 books but i'm counting it as one), ella enchanted by gail carson levine, and saffy's angel casson family by are pretty good. saffy's angel also has some sequels because it's a part of the casson family series, but i have mixed feelings on some of them so i'll just leave it at the first one. p.s. longer letter later & its sequel snail mail no more is also pretty good (epistolary novel my love). and OF COURSE. my ULTIMATE favorite children's novel.... anne of green gables by l.m. montgomery .... my childhood comfort book, one of my favorites... just a cute little autistic girl in late 19th century canada finding a family for the first time..........
also i know i already mentioned 5 novels but the giver quartet by lois lowry is pretty solid. well. the first two books in the quartet are, the third is all build up and no good pay-off and the finale is literally one of the worst novels i've ever read, but the first two are solid !!!!!
18) do you like historical books? which time period?
yeah sure i like historical books. i don't have any specific time period i like, i would read anything set in any time period and country as long as it's good. i'm kind of sick of victorian england, tho, but if a book was really good i would forgive it for it.
19) most disliked popular books.
oh god, where do i begin?
recently i read the seven husbands of evelyn hugo by taylor reid and it was literally so disappointing. everybody kept saying how good it was but it really was not. it was so obvious that the author was white. while it was a page-turner, the plot was pretty bad and none of the characters felt real, they were all so badly written. i thought the main love interest was such a horrible, insecure, obnoxious person, but the narrator KEPT fucking tell me how good she was when she really was not. i also thought it played into a lot of stereotypes of bisexual and lesbian people, whether evelyn "refuted" it or not.
everybody who knows me knows how much i hated the shades of magic trilogy by v.e. schwab when i read it. granted, i read it back in 11th grade, but it really made an impression on me. the plot/pacing was so, SO atrocious, wasting so much time on nonsense yet rushing the important bits. a waste of potential on all interesting concepts and characters (heck, the whole main plot concept of multiple londons was a wasted potential that never got to do anything) and the main protagonist lila was so so annoying. i don't usually the terms "mary sue" and "not like other girls" bc i feel like they're overused terms and there are more productive criticisms you can make, but "mary sue" and "not like other girls" is literally ALL lila is and she is so, SO, SOOOOOO fucking annoying and also so white!!! the "diversity" felt like the white author wanted to get points for being so woke or whatever. i think there are more books in this series now but i am still sick of it.
simon vs. the homo sapiens agenda by becky albertalli (the book love simon was based off of) was also really bad. the narrator is such a white asshole. i do understand and feel bad for his struggles as being closed and being forced out of the closet when he wasn't ready for it, but he is just so obnoxious white. he acts like nobody in the world can be more oppressed than him. and even when people go out of their way to support and help him, he still treats them like shit. he treated almost everybody in his life awfully, from his best friend leah to his sister. he is also causally biphobic at a point in the book. his best friend leah was also a fujoshi i believe - or at least, she said she really likes yaoi multiples times and that was really uncomfortable. the ending tries to make it like "wow we shouldn't assume everybody is white" when i'm like "idk i didn't assume everybody was white simon, that was all you, you're kind of assuming the whole audience is white" and it made him even more unlikable.
honorable mentions for bad popular books - the gilded wolves by roshani chokshi, the bone witch by rin chupeco, artistotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe by benjamin alire saenz
