A big deal is made this update of how Julie woke up early for spring, but she didn’t. The narrator woke her up.

I reach out and touch the pearl beads on his harness, following the chain down to where it disappears under his belt. His breath shudders under my touch, and I savor every little sound. “Just how far down does this go?” The telltale bulge just below his belt reveals how dangerously close I am to derailing our plans to leave the castle. But I’ve learned that Sylus loves it when I torment him like this as much as I love tormenting him. He leans over me. “Why don’t you follow it and find out? Lower…” With mischief in my eyes, I look up at him as I brush my fingertips on either side of where the chain disappears, just above his belt. His lashes flutter, dark eyes holding my gaze. Just when I think he’s about to snap, I pull my hand back and pick up the dress from the box. “Help me put this on,” I command. Sylus hisses with displeasure, but the corner of his mouth pulls upward. I hand Sylus the dress, and he takes his time helping me into it, holding his fingers between the zipper and my skin to keep it from pinching me. Once it’s on, I twirl, and the skirt flares out beautifully. “What do you think?” “Absolutely lovely,” he murmurs. “You did pick out a great dress.” “I wasn’t talking about the dress.”
