UPON  HER  HORSE  ,  THROUGH  PETAL - FRECKLED  FIELDS  ,  lyra  was  carried  into  pastures  and  passed  clear  waters  where  she  and  her  small  band  of  attendants  from  house  reed  could  drink  their  fill  on  the  way  to  kings  landing.  at  one  of  these  rivers  she  and  her  companions  stop  for  a  short  break  of  water ;  windfola ,  who  is  in  a  rather  gentle  and  pensive  mood  upon  feeling  sunshine  and  the  halter  gone ,  feels  the  frisson  of  joy  that  freedom  bestows.  the  horses  the  group  rode  over  the  tundra ,  that  carried  them  onwards ,  were  family  too.  they  put  their  hearts  into  the  travels  just  as  much.

the  alarming  sound  of  another  horse ,  one  that  does  not  belong  to  the  group ,  captures  her  attention  with  acute  sharpness.  quickly relacing  herself  on  the  large  horse ,  lyra  pulls  ahead  for  inspection.  through  the  thick  brush ,  she  finds  a  small  clearing.  lyra  wasn't  sure  what  she  was  going  to  find.  mostly ,  she  was  still  thinking  about  the  sound  of  the  startled  horse , thinking that a wild mare may have become a victim of a hunting trap.

thus ,  when  ameila  stark  came  into  view  dark  brows  furrowed ,  and  light  eyes  flickered  around  the  area ,  observing  and  assessing  for  potential  danger  now  that  the  princess  of  winterfell  was  in  her  sight.  ❝  what  are  you  doing  out  here  alone ?  ❞  the  seer  asks  amelia  without  thinking  about  saying  a  proper  hello  first.  however ,  lyra  has  known  the  young  wolf  since  she  was  a  small  babe , even looked after her when she was sick and fussy and would step in when the wet nurse had had enough.  her  eyes  harden  but  it's  not  directed  toward  amelia ,  more  like  the  situation  itself.  ❝  it  would  be  best  if  you  were  with  the  rest  of  your  house ,  amelia.  ❞  it  isn't  uncommon  to  find  ameila  alone ,  much  like  herself.  but  as  the  princess  of  winterfell  and  the  youngest  who  is  on  the  way  to  a  foreign  city ,  how  did  she  end  up  by  herself ?

LYRA  REED  MAY  LISTEN  TO  WHAT  THE  GODS  need  to  show  her  ,  but  her  most  prolific  storyteller  has  always  been  nature  and  her  layers  of  dirt  and  sediment.  the  withering  flowers,  the  humming  of  insects ,  branches  and  leaves  die  and  become  renewed. the  moon  wanders  high  in  the  dark  nocturnal  skies  when  the  dread  wolf  finally  shows.  lyra knows him as friend. ally. companion. yet the songs bards sing about him ; they sing about the blood he spills , the victories he has won , and glory he has achieved ... lyra is proud of what him has accomplished , though , despite whatever she sees , he will simply always be her rodrik.

she  is  waiting  for  him ,  braced  against  a  tree  with  an  ankle  crossed  over  the  other.  ❝  it's  about  time  you  showed  yourself.  ❞  the  smile  that  splits  her  lips  makes  a  struggle  toward  tenderness  through  the  thick  layer  of  exhaustion.  it  was  a  long  celebration ( too long , if she were to say anything out loud about it ).  longer  days  of  mingling  and  feeling  as  if  she  were  walking  on  a  hot  bed  of  coals.  fundamentally  she  does  not  change ,  but  the  circumstances  around  her  do ⸻ much  of  the seers  time  has  been  figuring  out  how  to  get  through  most  of  the  conversations  so  that  she  could  find  spaces  of  quiet.

she  approaches  slowly  so  that  she  can  note  how  he  has  changed  and  how  he  hasn't.  he  is  skin  and  bones.  gaunt  and  shadow - like. she  looks  to  the  woodland  in  his  eyes ,  dark  like  dragon - glass.
