honestly netflix just keep shooting themselves in the foot. they can’t keep making shows and then cancelling them. i don’t even wanna watch netflix original shows anymore because I don’t want to emotionally invest in a show netflix doesn’t give a shit about and will cancel immediately anyway. they never let any show have a proper story and a proper ending. why should we care about netflix when they don’t care about the audience nor the show creators

Holy shit every single time i see those lists of cancelled Netflix shows, i can’t help but notice how queer they are. Shadow and Bone is just another in a long list - several of its main characters are queer, there’s even some on-screen gay releationships (rip wesper and tamadia, you deserved better!!)

but it’s not the only one. I am not okay with this? Great show, so much potential, but oh no! The main character's into girls! Ofc it didn’t get another season. everything sucks? Another show with a major wlw relationship and queer characters that got cancelled

the society? 1899? I can just imagine how good they could’ve been if I they’d had more seasons to work with. But again, it had a couple of lgbtq characters, so i should know by now that it wasn’t going to happen.

obviously not every queer show gets cancelled, and it’s not necessarily just bc they are queer, but i can’t help but sense a pattern. At this point It’s just sad.

Netflix should have made their new years resolution to stop cancelling gay shows and movies / bring back the ones they cancelled.

Just made a list of all the shows I’ve watched that have been cancelled that I can recall right now. There’s 14 on the list. 13 of them had prominent queer characters. 9 of which were wlw. It just doesn’t sit right with me

They need to make a new rule that you can only cancel a show if it actually flops… like if these companies (cough cough netflix) aren’t committed to finishing the storyline then maybe you should just stick to making shitty movies instead of tv shows

with warrior nun getting canceled i have a lot of things to say and absolutely none of them are positive

namely, the fact that shows highlighting white gay/bisexual men are renewed AND consumed much more than shows highlighting bipoc lesbians/bisexuals. and even then, the shows with white queer women dont get renewed either. its valid to argue that it shouldnt be a “competition” and ultimately i agree— but its extremely ignorant to not acknowledge societies preference towards gay men over lesbians. gay men have a step above lesbians in that men, the driving patriarchal force, arent being ignored: they are crucial to the love story. something that makes people alienate lesbians so much is the sheer fact that by our very existence we are excluding and decentering men in our lives, thus living an “abnormal” life by patriarchal standards. but its not even just the production companies— its consumers, too. you see it in fiction as well: the song of achilles being acclaimed for a book that will make you sob while gideon the ninth and books like it are barely ever acknowledged nor recommended. straight women, a vast majority of the population (duh) and thus media consumers, inherently lean towards gay men because they are similar. they both like men— thus, more media with gay love stories is renewed and consumed and recommended and acclaimed, while lesbian love stories are left in the dust— unrecommended and unacknowledged due to their inherently alienating lifestyle and plot. this is an issue of companies’ refusal to renew shows with queer women in them, but its also an issue of consumers refusing to read, watch, or recommend media that is of the “out group”. i am so tired of this!!!!!!!!!!!!
