I am so unbelievably tired. My insomnia — or whatever is going on right now — is kicking my butt. I managed 5 and a half hours of sleep last night. According to my Fitbit I spent 11% of that awake, 63% in light sleep, 12% in REM, and 21% in deep sleep. With how much light and deep sleep I got, you’d think I was well rested. Instead I feel run down and sluggish. I’m fighting falling asleep right now because I don’t like napping. I always feel worse after a nap, but I think today I will end up succumbing to it. I won’t take a sleep aide because they do not work for me. I have tried them in the past and they either aggravated my insomnia and made it worse — or I’d fall asleep and sleep through every alarm I had and sleep the day away AND feel like I had a hangover from the amount of sleep I got. Apparently, my body’s reaction to a run of the mill kindergarten head cold is to freak the heck out and get an ear infection. I’ve been this close to driving myself to urgent care today because it hurts so damn much I can barely see straight. . And it has put two persistent thoughts in my head: . 1) I can’t believe that my poor baby suffered through this so many times. 2) parents who endure chronic pain while parenting are rock stars. It’s a bit of self pity prompting this post. I’ve spent the day teetering between laying in my bed sobbing and trying to act, in front of my kids, like I didn’t want to do that. And, well, that was hard as hell. And there are Mom’s that do this EVERY SINGLE DAY Day in, day out. WITHOUT A BREAK. And I want to wrap each and every one of you in healing light and love. . You don’t deserve to endure this. . I see that you are exhausted with the effort. And I see you facing every day the best you can. . I’m humbled today by this. I really am. . Today was my suck day. Morning was horrible and then I taught my weekly horsemanship class to the kiddos (honest highlight of my day) then tried to finish the chicken coop and even though I would measure 3 times, it would still be off. Yes, I was by myself. Then the girls and I decided to get the firewood stacked and out of the driveway, got three rows stacked, went in the house to take a break and two rows fell forward! Never had that happen in my life. I give up today. OMG, Luca is 2.5 weeks old. Still can’t believe he’s here and all mine! I made this kid! We just had a 2 week checkup with his pediatrician and he’s growing on track and doing all the normal baby things! He’s .75 inch taller!!! That’s too much!! 😭😭 Happy to report that we haven’t failed at this parenting thing yet... so far! We’ve finally got some sort of routine down with his schedule even though it’s always off by a couple hours here and there. Slowly but surely I’m starting to also be able to determine the difference between his poopy cry and his “I’m hungry” cry. I said I’d give myself a week and then get back to work but now it’s two weeks in and I am finally getting to emails and planning with my couples. I didn’t know how exhausting it would be to be up every 2-3 hours to feed and change the little guy. Thankful for my understanding clients and so thankful for my sister who’s generously synced her calendar with mine so she’d be able to fill in as Super Babysitting Aunty, once my season starts! Full disclosure... I lived Fat Tuesday this year like it was my last meal. Well, who am I kidding, I’ve been living most meals like it was Fat Tuesday for over two months. I’ve had pockets of good moments with my eating but 80% of the time I’ve been eating all the gluten and it shows. My pants are tight and I’m up a size. I’m extremely bloated and feel 5 months pregnant with a major carb face. I’m sluggish and fatigued all the time and CONSTANTLY HUNGRY!! I might have been a PAC man in another life with the amount of Paczkis I ate on Tuesday... Shoot I’m even “rocking” that #exhaustedmommy pedicure because I’ve been too drained to even take off my old polish. I feel miserable and I know it’s because of my diet, my choices, and my excuses. . So today I’m taking ownership of my decisions and ending the rest of my week strong. It won’t be perfect and I will probably have some missteps but I’m rebooting and resetting myself because I know that keto is worth it. I’m worth feeling amazing, energized, and motivated. So this weekend I will be gathering my top Kickstart keto tips and pulling out all the stops to drop this weight gain plus. Spoiler alert - Not every day in motherhood is delightful. Some days just smack you right in the gut and leave you breathless. I am functioning on about 3 hours of broken sleep due to Declan deciding sleep was over rated, the dogs imaginary friend returned, which started a big bark/ play fiesta and Savanna chose today of all days to wake up before the birds. I honestly don’t know how I survived the newborn stage - twice. The day was endless & to cap it off. All I wanted was a nice hot shower to wash away my exhausting day and feel clean. But alas, the kids wanted a big bubble bath , which used up all the hot water, so there I stood, under the luke warm/ turning cold water defeated 😑. I’m hoping tonight Declan realises how much he missed his sleep, Savanna waits for the birds and the dogs imaginary friend goes back to where ever the heck he/ she/ is from. So this is me - exhausted, 7 days in parenting solo, dirty unkept & feeling a bit sorry for myself.
