How to Make Bed of Nails Science Project

Creating a bed of nails science project is a fun way to demonstrate pressure distribution. Here's how to make it:

Materials:

Wooden board (base)

Many nails (with flat heads)

Hammer

Safety goggles

Ruler and pencil

Protective gloves

Instructions:

Preparation: Wear safety goggles and gloves for protection.

Marking: Use the ruler to mark a grid on the wooden board. Space the marks evenly, about 2 cm apart.

Nailing: Carefully hammer nails into the board at each marked spot, ensuring the nails are straight and evenly spaced. The flat heads should all be at the same height.

Testing: Once all nails are in place, gently press a soft object (like a foam pad) on the nails. The weight will be evenly distributed across the nails, reducing the pressure at any one point.

Conclusion: The bed of nails demonstrates how pressure is distributed over a large area, making it safe to lie on without getting hurt.

I've been slowly collecting the items needed to make homemade wine for a few years now. This is my latest score. Two lovely glass carboys. It probably would have been cheaper to go with plastic but I really don't like putting anything edible in it. Besides, look how pretty those are and as usual they came used from Facebook marketplace. Now I just need a few more items and I'll be making, or attempting to make, my own wine. I'm sure I'll make mistakes. I'm equally sure I'll learn from them. Sometimes you learn far more from the failures than you ever would from the successes. You just have to be willing to fail.
