I hate trying to write when my Sherlock hyperfixation is (temporarily) waning... it'll come back shortly (I think y'all know how it is with revolving obsessions), but I hope it's back in time for my FTH fic to get the boost of energy and motivation it requires. I adore the prompt given to me, but thus far I only have the first chapter loosely outlined and I feel like I've hit a wall. Even the Hozier-inspired title hasn't gotten me as hyped as I want to be before I attempt to write.

How do I get my obsession back? Do I binge S1-3? Re-read all of my bookmarked fics? Stare at pictures of Martin and Benedict? MUSES, PLEASE COME BACK TO ME.

I'm going to expose my status as former English Lit major and say that a line from Philip Sidney's sonnet sequence "Astrophil and Stella" from the 1580s or so (literally about a man in love with a woman in a doomed affair - a man named "Lover of Stars" loving a woman named "Star", which is sweet... Shakespeare who?). I had to memorize one of the sonnets (Sonnet 74) for a course back in like 2008, and this line has always stuck with me:

"And Muses scorn with vulgar brains to dwell: Poor layman I, for sacred rites unfit."

Yeah dude, same. He does go on to say that despite his general lack of inspiration, the words are now magically flowing because of his love for Stella. But I'll ignore that part so I can wallow for a second. Or two.

Okay, seriously, I keep seeing people here talking about how Starlight is gonna die when they let the Meridian absorb them

And it’s driving me up the wall

Sure, Avior and Starlight in the prime canon universe don’t know that they won’t but we as the audience do

Why does it feel like I’m the only person on Tumblr rn who listened to Cataclysm? (I mean, if you didn’t for mental health reasons you are more than welcome to read over the very thorough ten thousand word summary that I wrote up of the entire Cataclysm arc [link] and then come back to this post)

Cataclysm literally establishes that Starlight can survive being absorbed by the voids.

And probably will

We know from James talking to the android listener in the Project Meridian storyline that the prime universe’s Meridian is in danger of falling too. It’s probably not quite as thin as the Imperium’s was and therefore has a little more time (Imperium’s lore establishes that the empowered population is enormous and uses their magic with abandon, therefore it tracks that their Meridian is constantly too riddled with punctures to heal fast enough and in a worse state than the prime universe’s Meridian where the magical population is smaller), but the fact of the matter is the Department is worried about it and paying attention to it

Therefore, it stands to reason, that Starlight being absorbed into the Meridian in the prime universe will yield similar (if not the same) results as what happened to them in the Cataclysm arc

Elaetum and/or Min’Ara (depending on whether they’ve been worn down into one being or if the prime Meridian [lol] still has enough integrity to allow them to exist as separate entities) will probably use Starlight’s body as a mouthpiece to speak to Avior about the Meridian and what can be done about it, and then once they’ve told him the solution and act on said solution (whether they can retrieve the imprisoned other Sovereigns from under the river in Death, I have no idea. We’ll find out), they’ll withdraw from Starlight’s body and drop Starlight and Avior off back on Elegy

And, presumably, the Meridian will be stable or on its way to being stabilized

So please, everyone

If you’re going to yell about how Starlight’s gonna die,

At least find something more creative and angstier than just “the Meridian will absorb them and they’ll dissolve” because the lore and mechanics of the Redactedverse have established that that’s not the case

So make it worse Or better. Whichever appeals most to you
