"Do you need a--" starts Jigen before breaking off, startled, as Goemon grabs his face and leans in to light his cigarette with Jigen's. Close up on Jigen's wide eyes with the light of the cigarette reflected in them. He's having a moment. Then Goemon pulls back and leans against the railing, exhaling a cloud of smoke. Jigen stares at him. Goemon: "You're staring, Jigen." Jigen flinches and tugs his hat down over his eyes, blushing and muttering "sorry." But then he lifts his head, surprised, as Goemon puts a hand on his back and looks at him with a smile. Jigen smiles back. The final page is a single wide shot of them standing on the balcony together, leaning against each other, each with an arm around the other. End ID]

hi 🫣 feeling very shy about posting this one but i managed to convince myself to do it anyway so i hope it doesn’t flop teehee. some misc notes about this comic and its making:

it’s a scene from a wip fic of mine that may or may not ever get finished. the gist of it is that goemon gets tortured and almost dies, and it kind of forces both of them to realize how much they care about each other

the posing of jigen’s hat and the visibility of his eyes (neither, one, both) is very intentional and symbolic! see if you can kind of track that theme through the comic :]

when i was thumbnailing, the third panel on the first page gave me some grief because i couldn’t figure out where to put the speech bubbles so they wouldn’t get in the way. then i had the idea to put them in between J and G, because it adds a nice symmetry and if you squint also has a sort of symbolic meaning (something something the words are figuratively separating them from each other, exchanging pleasantries as a stand-in for saying how they really feel, etc etc)

this comic was great practice drawing profiles and hats lmao

i did a chunk of the sketching and planning for this while drunk and i honestly think it made it better

this took me F O R E V E R and i stared to get really tired of doing it by the end so you can probably see the quality decrease lmao. alas. it's not perfect but it is what it is

adoration — how would your f/o speak about you to someone else?

- Jigen isn't the most open, gushing man in the world. If someone asked him to speak about Lupin, his best friend and loyal partner, he'd probably just say that he's an annoying genius who can't sit still. For me, though... He can't help himself from getting a little softer. Maybe something like... "Yeah, the kid's got their quirks. Their heart's too damn big, that's for sure." and leave it at that :b

confession — how’d the confession happen, and looking back on it, what are your (and f/o’s) thoughts abt how you both were back then?

- Our confession was less one of words, and more one of action! We had a back and forth for a while, where I'd push the boundaries and say something flirty or overly kind, and it would make him open up a little. He would then promptly remember that those feelings have gone hand in hand with betrayal in the past, and pull back. This happened for a while, until I was hurt while out on a job with the gang. Goemon hauled my wounded self back to the fiat and they were able to get me patched up, but it really shook him up. When I apologized for scaring him, knowing how much he had lost already, he gave in and kissed me right then and there! Looking back, he feels like he shouldn't have been so scared- That he knew he could trust me from the minute he met me, but past experiences can be a hard thing to overcome- Especially when you've been hurt and betrayed and left as much as he has!

hugs — are you and f/o affectionate / open about your relationship in public?

- We definitely don't try to hide anything, but Ji's not really a very outwardly affectionate kinda guy all the time. Sure, when we've got some downtime we're laying on each other at any opportunity. But as far as hugs, kisses, hand-holding, ect., We tend to save that for our private moments.

So.... I anonymously sent in a match-up to @stealinghero a while back and I was pleasantly surprised to get Jigen (the one who sings and draws? yeah, that was me. also hi!). I love all the other leading men in Lupin too but it was really hard for me to choose a definite favorite, because let’s be honest here: all the leading men in Lupin have qualities that make them very attractive. But thanks to that match-up, I think I found a a favorite character finally! So I made a shameless self-insert OC and drew some quick sketches (because once my brain is given an idea it likes to run 10 miles with it)! Some quick facts about her:

- met Jigen, Lupin, and Goemon while on the run from her manipulative and possessive ex (who’s the main source of her anxiety)

- was kind of skittish around them when they first met but eventually warmed up to them and began to trust them

- becomes fiercely loyal to the Lupin gang 

- doesn’t smoke and rarely drinks

- Jigen teaches her to defend herself

- Lupin teaches her some self defense too and about being a theif and Goemon gives her some meditation techniques to help calm her anxiety down a bit

- after she realized her feelings for Jigen, she confessed her feelings through a song

The first two pages are based on @stealinghero‘s match-up and the last page is after a run-in with her ex and Jigen realizes he’s getting feelings for her. And because music is a huge creative motivator for me here’s some of songs I listened to while sketching!

9. who are your self insert’s closest friends?

If we exclude Viktor cuz he’s a love interest that started off as a friend. Probably Ikon(my OC), Shinra and Arthur.

Shinra and Arthur cuz she ends up getting dragged into a lot of their spats and adventures. Usually against her will cuz they end up accidentally dragging her with them. They enjoy having somebody who will try to settle their arguments but at the cost of her sometimes trying to prolong their arguments for the sake of entertainment.

Ikon cuz she constantly gets hurt and therefore she spends a lot of time in the medic bay and getting check ups to make sure she’s not going to keel over from her body being stressed. Ikon was also the one who convinced Veselko to join the 8th and until more people joined Veselko’s job was basically to protect Ikon and Iris from infernals.

Veselko has even aided Ikon on trying to gain Benimaru’s forgiveness as well.

10. how do the other characters feel about your self insert and f/o’s relationship?

The majority of everybody was simultaneous “Why?” But also a simultaneous “of course why not.”

Nobody is surprised, it makes sense.

Hibana is more upset over it but eventually ends up being like “somebody needs to love that little parasite I guess.”

12. how would the fandom view your character?

I feel like the fandom would probably see Veselko as an asshole and nuisance cuz of her constant teasing. Like she’s not depicted as a bad person but as a loveable prankster.

Or however the BSD fandom sees Dazai other than carnally

9. who are your self insert’s closest friends?

It would be Lupin with Jigen as a extremely close second.

I know I said this in another ask but while Corvo would get revenge for anybody in the gang, there’s only two people she’d jump off a cliff for in some attempt to save. Those two being Goemon and Lupin. In Missed By a Dollar Corvo almost jumps out off the helicopter in a desperate attempt to save Lupin but was stopped by Jigen.

Corvo, while she denies it, does feel like she owes a lot to Lupin. Lupin is the reason why she’s alive both literally and figuratively. He indirectly gave her a will to live and instead of living her life as an emotionless husk with a death wish she now gets to laugh and have fun as well as have a reason to live. She enjoys doing and planning stupid heists with him. She also probably spends the most time with Lupin since she usually follows him around to scheme.

10. how do the other characters feel about your self insert and f/o’s relationship?

“Really?? You’re finally dating??? Good for you good for you! Never thought you two would do it!”

There’s only surprise that it’s finally been done. They’ve all expected Goemon and Corvo to die with never telling each other how they feel OR randomly stumble across them happily married and with a random child.

There is not in between only one or the other in their eyes.

12. how would the fandom view your character?

I feel like the fandom would probably depict Corvo more mean and hot headed then she actually is fjejrks. To be fair she does threaten to beat Lupin a lot as well as intimidate people whenever she’s annoyed with them. So it’s warranted but still nrjfjejr

10. how do the other characters feel about your self insert and f/o’s relationship?

I like to imagine they all are happy for them with the sense of "finally", especially after they got over their on again off again relationship. Mostly happy for Jigen, as he's been through a whole lot of bad relationships. For most of it everyone is just watching it play out with taunts and jabs here and there, but glad they're together. Goemon is a bit more invested in it then most would think, but I only say that cause he gives Jigen the final push he needed.

I don't think Fujiko really cares much, and definitely leans more to the "finally" sense of things.

11. what kind of outfit(s) does your self insert?

Nolan usually is seen wearing rather formal attire as they wear a nice dress shirt with a couple buttons opened and a vest, with dress pants. They're color scheme is usually blue leaning (along with with most of the gang when you think about it).

During more formal parties or events, she'll wear either a suit or more likely a nice dress cause they don't get a chance to dress up like that often, so its nice for a change.

In the CGI movie where they add a lot more details to the characters, I figured they'd add a slight pattern to her vest to give it more flair, and I imagine it's something like this.

12. how would the fandom view your character?

Great question, one of my favorites on the list.

No but seriously, I think the fans would definitely find Nolan interesting. With they're backstory and fun and sometimes brutal/chaotic energy, I like to believe the fans would enjoy them in terms of her character. They're a forger that gets into a lot of mischief, what's not to enjoy!
