The McDonnell Douglas RF-4C Phantom II (left) is a tactical reconnaissance that is a modification of the F-4C fighter. It's got lots of cameras in the nose that are capable of taking photos in both high and low altitude in both day and night.
The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk (right), the world's first operational stealth aircraft. The one on display was built and modified specifically for systems testing; once the testing program was over, the plane was given to the museum.

Phantom Friday...
...still needs just a little work.

"We'll drag her back up out of the surf, get the wheels down, wash off the sand and seawater and she'll be as good as new!"
I'm making good progress with things. The family is loving all the content from the new media library that they can now watch with Plex and to make it even better, I don't have to sneakernet stuff around the house on flash drives. The image collection is on the QNAP NAS now and I should be good to go for next Friday.
Thanks for hanging in.
Until next time. For reals.
(EDIT)
@mmorao asked about the circumstances that resulted in F-4C Phantom s/n 64-0769 sitting in the ocean. Cause was an aborted takeoff at Cam Ranh Bay Air Base in South Vietnam on 3 March 1967. The aircraft couldn't stop on the runway and ended up on the beach in the water, and was written off. The crew was not injured.
This is the only photograph of the incident that I can find.

Federal officials have identified the remains of U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Donald W. Downing of Columbus, Wisconsin, who went missing during the Vietnam War nearly 60 years ago.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced Tuesday that its scientists had positively identified Downing's remains.
Downing was piloting an F-4C Phantom II aircraft during an armed night reconnaissance mission over the then-Democratic Republic of Vietnam in September 1967 when his plane disappeared.
Decades of investigation yielded nothing until a recovery team in 2024 discovered aircraft wreckage at a site in Quang Binh Province, Vietnam.
