okay my very serious fancast for fablehaven (would never happen because some actors should be ten years younger at least)
Emma Watson as Kendra Sorenson
Okay, I know it's hard to unsee her as Hermione but look at her. Especially with her hair like that: SHE IS KENDRA. Her dubious hair color and texture, even the clothes are like... Kendra definitely dress like that.
Walker Scobell as Seth Sorenson
Well, in my head Seth has brown hair. But Walker would have played him so well PLEASE. Plus Emma and him could pass as brother and sister. Anyway this one is mostly for vibes but I do think taking a random chaotic kid with no peculiar physical traits and dressing him in the most horrendous outfits would work just fine.
Young Colin Ford however does look like Seth too if the movie wants to go for a 2000 vibe:
Henry Collett as Gavin Rose
He looks both sweet and able to swing a sword. He already played a dragon tamer. He could be the worst man alive and no one would blame Kendra for falling for him. And TBH it's EXACTLY like that that I pictured Gavin before seeing It (2017) and starting to merge the two stuttering characters together (brain wasn't braining).
Milly Alcock as Bracken
Okay I think I need to justify myself here. But, look at her. She has a soft face, but we know she can look like a badass too. She has the pretty white hair. With a little imagination, she's totally in love with a girl trying to break her out of prison. They would be a power couple. Female Bracken would make me ship Brakendra.
Jeremys Irons as Coulter Dixon
No director instructions, just let the man plays. I just want Coulter to be the biggest hater ever and then saving Seth's life and everyone just goes Oh. Oh. (Yeah the fanfiction Oh). Like the man actually cares. I feel like Jeremy Irons would do well.
David Tennant/Pedro Pascal as Patton Burgess
Self-explanatory. Patton is a middle age man with an awesome mustache. Only those two could pull the gentleman adventurer that seduced a naiad and went on adventures around the world. I don't know which one I like more tbh!
Jared Padalecki as Warren Burgess
Then you just ask him to play like he's Dean Winchester. Because PHYSICALLY, he looks like Warren but I do believe Warren acts kinda like Dean? So yeah. But same perfect face so...
Josh Hutcherson as Dale Burgess
I swear I'll come up with something better. But like... Yeah well. I have no explanation. He could play the role just fine, especially the big brother side who's like, everyone's favorite side character. But yeah, Dale is supposed to be super tall and Josh is like... WELL not that tall. I also do remember Kendra saying Dale and Warren didn't look alike that much but had a "feeling they were from the same family" (kinda). I think that could work.
I'll do a part two when I'll find a fancast for the others lol

Pretty sure Fablehaven doesn't have any tv/movies. Do you have a fan cast for any of the canon characters? (Voices for the ones who would have to be cg?)
Oooooh interesting! I haven't thought a whole lot about fancasts, honestly - I really just appreciate the books as they come. But if I try to put something together.... let's see.
First off, I don't have fancast ideas for either of the kids. I imagine they'd just put a casting call out for child actors, and it's just hard to pick out younger actors who fit/could pass for a certain age (and especially since they age through the books). But for the adults:
Stan: Aside from being an old man, my decision for Stan is mainly motivated by the way he carries himself: intelligent, competent, well-versed in how things work. I'd say either Sam Elliot or Harrison Ford.

Ruth: By a similar token, we'd need someone who's older and carries themself as a person who always knows what they're doing. I'm going with Meryl Streep.

Lena: Lena is describes as with Asian-leaning features, and she regains some youth after returning to the pond. I'd say Kelly Hu for her first appearance, and Gemma Chan when she returns in the third book after being revitalized by the pond.

Coulter: Coulter to me is one of those small, wiry, and vaguely off-putting kind of middle-aged men. My first association with him is a Silence of the Lambs-era Anthony Hopkins, but to pick someone who's in the right age range now, I'd go with Hugo Weaving

Tanu: Oh, easy. Big, smiley Samoan guy? Cooper Andrews. By far the easiest fancast of anyone in this lineup XD

Vanessa: My first impulse was of Lesley-Ann Brandt (who played Mazikeen in the Lucifer show), but she's just a little old to play the 20-something Vanessa, so I'm gonna go with Tristan Mays

Warren: I.... struggled with this one. He has such a specific look in my head, and even outside the physical looks, there's this quality to the way he acts that I think would take a really specific charisma. I'm bouncing between Cole Sprouse and Logan Lerman, here. Logan Lerman has more of the look, but after watching Lisa Frankenstein, I think Cole Sprouse might have the edge on Warren's goofy charisma.
(if we're going SOLELY on goofy charisma I'd go with Wyatt Russell, he nails the whole "dorky adventurer" thing in Playtest [Black Mirror], but... sadly he does not fit the look)

Dale: He's described as looking similar to Warren but a bit more plain, and being very tall and broad (built like a farmer, imo). He's also the older brother, which places a bit of a particular age range on who I can choose... I went with Joel Kinnaman, not completely sold on this one since I think he's a very handsome guy, but he's got the right build and by and large the right physical features (like those hazel-colored eyes that both Warren and Dale are described to have in the books)

____
Might do a part two with some of the secondary/later-series characters (Newel, Doren, the Sphinx, Bracken, Gavin/Navarog, etc.), but I'll leave this here for now!

Tumblr hates me and won’t let me comment or reblog rn… Your fablehaven fancast is perfect. Kendra is absolutely stunning. I was cackling but the end of it. But may I suggest Blu Yoshimi as Vanessa?
ahsjfjajdjf we love a completely functional website <3
Thank you I worked really hard on the entire fan cast and put an equal amount of thought into each casting and didn’t put more effort into ANY of them also that’s a valid Vanessa fan cast better than what I almost put in my post (Scarlett Johansson before I made her Ruth LMAO) <3

I love Finn Wolfhard as Nico! Your list reminds me of the Emily Windsnap fancast I made long, LONG ago…
As a book reader, what are your thoughts on fancasts for books? Do you have any particular fancast choices in mind?
Dude, i LOVE fancasts! Especially for young adult series that dont already have adaptations, like PJO, The Lunar Chronicles, and pretty much any Brandon Mull series.
I dont have a ton of fancasts cause i tend to throw away the idea if i dont think the actor fits the role or look perfectly
But here’s a few fancast ideas I’ve come up w
○ Vanessa Santoro in Fablehaven: Rise of the Evening Star ~ played by Stephanie Beatriz

○ Nico di Angelo in Percy Jackson and the Olympians ~ played by Finn Wolfhard (i see this one a lot but it honestly just works so well)

○ The Marquis de Carabas in Neverwhere ~ played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje

○ Nedwin in Beyonders ~ played by Domhnall Gleeson (but scruffier and with freckles)

○ Jace in The Five Kingdoms ~ played by Jentzen Ramirez

Part Two, with some more of the secondary cast!
Newel: I think there are two ways to go about the satyrs... either they're going to go based on facial appearance/acting style and CG the goat legs (and in the process make them shorter, since the satyrs are meant to be shorter than humans), or they'd just cast actors who are on the shorter side to begin with and do the goat legs semi-practically.
If it's the first, I'd go with Cameron Monaghan (my overall best choice, for appearance + age + acting style, but he's tall). If it's the latter, though, I'd say Seth Green (only 5'3"-5'4", but he's a little old for the role)

Doren: Y'know what? I've actually got a pretty good pick for this one, I think. Gaten Matarazzo. He's 5'5", matches pretty well to Doren's book description, and he's definitely got that "lovable goofball" thing down!

Raxtus: Honestly... I got the imagine of Daniel Radcliffe as him in my head (CG'd to be a foot tall for his human/fairy form), and I really can't get that image out lol XD Plus, he's been branching out into a lot of goofier roles lately, so I could really see this for him!!

Bracken: I know Bracken is described as a cis guy in the books, but the books are also from the early 2000s, and I think the whole idea of a unicorn stuck in human form really lends itself to androgyny and a looser relationship with gender. In the books, Bracken is described with silver-blue eyes and hair (these would likely be hair/makeup work or CGI), but also extremely pale and lean and with a sort of "boyish charm". For this, I'd go with Jack Haven, Emma D'Arcy, or even Mae Martin (they usually do comedy, but I could see it)

Gavin: In human form, he's described as looking skinny and dorky, very un-intimidating. When I was thinking about this, I wanted to try and find an actor who looked kinda goofy but had a deep voice (or at least could *do* a deep voice), with the idea being that they would also then voice Navarog and could shift between "reedy teenager" and "imposing dragon", but... uh, that's hard to find, and I can't exactly put "guy who voiced Audrey Two in my community theatre production of Little Shop" as a fancast.
So we'll just stick to his human form, and ignore my rather ambitious idea with the voices. I went with Jaeden Martell - approachably dorky-looking, definitely the kind of person Kendra would crush on without realizing he's the next big villain

The Sphinx: The Sphinx isn't given much physical description in the books aside from being dark-skinned and having short beaded dreads, but given his character in the books he needs to be able to come across as both very friendly and very enigmatic - a person who could just as easily seem like a friend or an enemy, someone who's hard to pin down. I went with LaKeith Stanfield for this one: he fits the look, but I also find him to be very good with this subtle expressiveness in his acting, and he's a horror veteran so I think he could really nail the whole friend-enemy confusion.
