Is it a good movie? No but like. How come no one told me that there was inner conflict in the japanese immigrant community in inner São Paulo in the 1940s, a community that overwhelmingly refused to believe Japan had actually surrendered, that lead to several fucking deaths and 30 thousand people arrested???????????
I never heard of this

Since twitter got deactivated in Brazil some alt-right idiots are cloning the accounts of ppl that can't access twitter anymore to spread far-right discourse.
Know how you can help brazilian accounts:
Pay attention to the @/s, since most activated two-factor authentication, they're just copying the pfp and banner to spread misinformation.
Report those fake accounts!
Try to communicate with the artists in other social medias and please if you see something suspect let us know! (most of us left our new social medias in our pinned posts, so be sure to check them out!)
EDIT: Artists and fellow brazilians, earlier we had a voting on the congress and now it's safe to use VPN as long we don't use it to commit any crime.
Tumblr media
"The change was highlighted by a member of the Supreme Court as an attempt by the minister to make the purpose of the fine clearer. It would not be for anyone and everyone who uses X, but for anyone who wants to use the VPN to defraud the decision. That is, to continue hate speech, anti-democratic speech and the publication of fake news. The fine, for this purpose, therefore, is also maintained."
It's safe to use it, but be careful with everything you like (even by accident) or post, also be careful with VPNs that request personal data, which is unusual. Prefer browsers with native VPNs. Ofc I ain't a specialist, so anything you can add here will help us!
If you don't feel safe using VPNs rn, the best thing to do is wait until the suspension is over.
Thats it! Thx everyone, stay safe!

I know it's a bit weird to still be talking about Brazil - Spain but I just found this out yesterday. Aitana's interview about the match was posted incompletely. She was misunderstood, she didn't disrespect Brazil's win, didn't mention the time-wasting until the reporter asked and still admitted that Spain lost for other reasons. Here's the full interview and I think we need an English translation of this: https://x.com/ellarguero/status/1820941900129423813
hi - so this interview has been out there for a while, but even with the full translation, certain people are only going to keep picking and choosing what they want to hear. all the players have been self-critical and a lot of the comments were in response to questions being directly asked, but it is what it is at this point. time to move on and focus on club season! 🙏
Tumblr media
anyway, here's the full translation below the cut:
q: on a day when we thank you for being there for us, we have to digest the defeat and reprogram the route, right?
a: yes, when you win everything it is very nice, when you lose it's not, but you always have to show your face and it is clear that when you are not at your best these things happen.
q: it has been very difficult to recover from the first blow, hasn't it?
a: it is true that when you start from zero it is difficult to turn it around, not every day will be like the day of colombia, so obviously self-criticism. we have the team to give a better version and nothing, to recover for the bronze.
q: you have forty-eight hours to recover and to know that you have to fight for this prize, which is also a big prize.
a: right, right, but that does not mean that right now we have to digest the defeat, we are screwed, when we lose it is hard and nothing. friday we will be there to fight for the bronze.
q: it's difficult to draw conclusions in the heat of the moment, isn't it? and to think about what could have happened, isn't it?
a: well, a lot of things, in the end we had the games, well, i would not like to say two, i think that, for whatever reason, it has cost us a little more this championship, we have not been at our best level and in the end when you play with fire you get burned. and the other day it did not cost against colombia, today we also started losing against brasil. but when we win, we win as a team, when we lose, we lose as a team. so more united than ever, we will recover and fight for the bronze medal.
q: and the last one, has the team been bothered by so many time wasting, so many interruptions that it seems that it was not possible to play in the second half?
a: well, it is not new today, we have been playing three games like this, which is not an excuse because in the end we lose because of other factors. but for me this should not be allowed in football and for me this has to be reviewed so that it does not happen again in future championships because in the end the teams play with this and if they are allowed to play this type of game they will continue to play this type of game. i am not in favor of this type of game, i am in favor of generating spectacles, so that the fans enjoy themselves. and in the end, these games that we have played, i believe that this has not been the case.

Forced evictions impact over 1.5 mi individuals in Brazil
Tumblr media
An unprecedented survey by the National Zero Eviction Campaign, released on Wednesday (Aug. 14), reveals that over 1.5 million Brazilians experienced evictions or forced removals between October 2022 and July 2024. This marks a 70 percent increase, as 898,916 people were affected by such actions as of October 2022.
The mapping compiles collective cases of forced removals, where individuals and entire communities have been evicted from their homes. It encompasses not only legal actions but also administrative processes initiated by public authorities.
The increase during this period, explained Raquel Ludermir, Advocacy Manager at Habitat for Humanity Brazil, may be linked to the fact that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Supreme Court ordered the suspension of evictions and repossessions targeting vulnerable families. This measure remained in place until the end of October 2022. “Up until then, many cases were on hold due to this Supreme Court order. After it was lifted, evictions were once again legally permitted. What we’re now witnessing is a significant surge that reflects the resumption of these eviction and repossession cases, in general,” she said in an interview with Agência Brasil and TV Brasil.
Another factor that may have contributed to this increase, Ludermir explained, is the rising cost of living following the pandemic. “We know that during the pandemic, many people were pushed into poverty, and the cost of living soared. As a result, it’s likely that many people turned to occupations,” she noted.

Related to the people mentioning the American-centric stuff: I also wonder how many of these movies I would have voted 'no' rather than 'never heard of it' if I was seeing their localised names rather than the English one. Because sometimes the titles are different rather than being 100% translated. (This applying to movies I have 0 visual representation of in my head for say, the main actors or the posters, having just heard the titles they had in Brasil.)
That's definitely a factor. I'd hoped that having the posters would help people recognize the movies even if they didn't immediately know them by name, but I guess it doesn't always help.

West End Cast Change
Alright lots of exciting news today. I was going to reply to asks individually but looks like they're all like the same few questions so for convenience....megapost. Principal costumes/general notes - The principal costumes have been standardized for a while now and shouldn't have any significant design differences. - The UK has been standardizing the boots to all be one thick strap (two buckles) with the exception of Cleves who of course gets the thigh highs. - Reca Oakley and Gabriella Stylianou are both returning from former NCL contracts. They should both get new costumes. Gabriella's is rather old now and doesn't match the style of any other current Seymour. Reca's is fairly standard for the North American/NCL productions, but it isn't rigged for the Cleves reveal which means she should get new. Swing costumes The incoming swings have been announced as - Meg Dixon-Brasil for the West End - Natalie Pilkington as universal, which means she'll be based in the West End but travel to the UK Tour to provide coverage as needed The very obvious costume assignments are that Meg gets silver and Natalie gets black. The current UK Tour does not have anyone in black alt, which allows Natalie to seamlessly go back and forth without any concerns about duplicate costumes. Those assignments are also flattering on each of them, respectively, and Natalie was previously black alt during her time as UK Tour swing (and Bliss 1.0 even before that). As for what costumes Natalie will wear....she does have a previous black alt costume that she wore for the UK Tour. It was a reused top, reused shorts, new pants, and new Cleves zippered jacket (non-reveal). She'll likely wear that, reusing a few of those pieces but get replacements here and there. Probably gets an Aragon/Howard skirt as well. I also think it's likely that she'll re-wear her principal Seymour and Parr costumes from the UK Tour, although I'd expect that they'll generally keep them in the West End and not always have her bring them to Tour (with the exception of special occasions). Assuming she does reuse those, she wouldn't get the black Seymour variation. There is a small chance that Natalie keeps her pink alt and Seymour/Parr costumes. This seems unlikely - harder to transport, less flexibility, risk of double pink - but knowing Six it's not impossible. If this is the plan, presumably one of the West End alts would get black instead of pink.
Alternate costumes To me the most exciting factor is that they finally scrambled around the covers again!!! This is the first time since the current alternate system has been implemented that they're breaking the standardized A/C, B/H, S/P, to: Gabriella Stylianou as alt. Aragon/Seymour Naomi Alade as alt. Boleyn/Cleves Hannah Lowther as alt. Howard/Parr They're keeping the same system of principal costumes for first covers (already seen some of them in progress). But their alternate costumes for second and third covers are up in the air. Historically... - teal alternate was designed for Boleyn/Cleves, but also became standard for B/H, B/S/H, and S/H/P as first covers. Under the standardized alternate system, it's been used for Aragon/Cleves first covers which means they're wearing it for B/S/H/P. - orange alternate was designed for Aragon/Parr but also became standardized for S/P and once for A/C. Under the standardized system, it was used for A/S/C/P. - pink alternate was designed for Aragon/Howard and used for A/B/C/H, both prior to lockdown and with the recent standardization. - and I know I mentioned the (small) possibility that Natalie keeps her pink and an alt gets black above, but that's so minute and adds too many factors to consider, so for the sake of this post I'm just going to assume that's not happening. With this cast, my best guess is: - Gabriella in teal (will be worn for B/C/H/P) - Naomi in pink or orange (will be worn for A/S/H/P) - Hannah in orange or pink (will be worn for A/B/S/C) Gabriella's covers all fit neatly within teal so that feels fairly simple (although nothing ever is with Six and it could wind up totally different!). Naomi and Hannah both feel a little more complicated. I'd lean towards Naomi pink and Hannah orange - they feel more likely and better suited to them/the roles. But in terms of the costumes themselves, they've generally really avoided pink for S/P and Naomi does cover both, while Hannah only covers S. If they really want to avoid pink S/P as much as possible, there's a chance Hannah gets it. It ultimately comes down to what factors they're prioritizing. I'm very curious to see where they land! My personal hopes, with varying degrees of likelihood: - a changed variation for orange/teal/pink. please Ms Slade I'm begging you. - Naomi wearing braids for her roles, just like Zara MacIntosh did. - Thao Therese Nguyen getting green highlights like the South Korean queens did. Six has really diversified their Boleyn hair/wig designs recently to better reflect the individual queens' hair/cut/style. Since Thao often has brightly dyed hair I think this would be a really fun spot to add that individuality for her! I'd also like to see Naomi with green highlights if this is the case, but since she's alt it's less likely and I'd rather braids. - Janiq Charles getting to incorporate twists in her hairstyle, potentially something similar to Paisley Billings'. - Meg getting the Boleyn variation for silver alt. This is unlikely but I'd love for it to happen anyway (Esme Rothero seems to have been a special case, which I wrote about here)

Wrote a very depressing tweet earlier, but was a coward and deleted it.
So, instead of being depressed AF on main, I'll take one of the things I said in it and will elaborate in a much better, healthier manner, which is... gushing about music, my beloved, my hyperfixation ~
In the tweet I mentioned André Matos, a BR singer, composer, pianist with a literal degree in classical music and conducting.
Tumblr media
He became a literal metal legend here in BR specially in the 90s/2000s. Like for real - he was THIS CLOSE to replace Bruce Dickinson when he left Iron Maiden in the early 90s (Andre was in the 3rd place of choice).
Unfortunately, Andre passed away in 2019 at early age of 47 due to a cardiac arrest - it was very sudden and a shock to everybody, it's kind of insane even now looking back and remembering he's gone.
Anyway. That being said, enough with the sad stuff and let's turn this into THE COOLEST THING you guys will ever learn about Brazilian music!! As a kid, Andre Matos was the vocalist of a band named Viper, and later on as a young adult he joined Angra, a band that still exists to this day with other members and vocalists - BTW!!! SMALL PARENTESIS, the vocalist who replaced Andre in Angra, Edu Falaschi, sang the Brazilian version of "Pegasus Fantasy", Saint Seiya's opening theme back then!! Still a fucking banger, and Edu STILL often sings it to this day; Edu isn't in Angra anymore, I think???
But yeah. As you can see, we're already getting epic and complex and I didnt even get to Andre yet lol ANYWAY!! This is Angra with the OG formation with Andre as the lead singer/keyboardist - he's the 3rd one, the pretty boi in the middle, hehe
Tumblr media
Angra was one of the pivotal points in Brazilian hard rock/metal; Sepultura is right there with them, I think - I don't know a lot about Sepultura (that's my sister's territory lol), but I know that much.
I'll skip straight into Angra's stuff cause there's where the good stuff begins!
First album of theirs is called "Angels Cry" and the title song is SUCH a quintessential Angra / Andre Matos song, i swear to gods. And the album art sdkjfhsdkfjshdf it's very Graphic Passion Is My Design. Don't be fooled by the dated album art tho:
youtube
Here you'll hear the "classic music interludes" that were very common in Andre Matos' songs due to his background and training in classic music. It's SOOOO 80s and their Iron Maiden influence is SCREAMING, quite literally. Worth mentioning I'm not an Iron Maiden fan lol btw #Poser
Another CLASSIQUE-TM from Angels Cry is "Time".
I'll throw the official videoclip in here because it's hilarious, even though the song slaps ksdjfhskdj (André's corny, pretty metal boi look in his early Angra days is kind of a goal to transNB me, ngl. #GenderEnvy)
youtube
WELL, do you guys know folk metal? Like, when we say that, it's usually metal + medieval/European instruments (like Eluveitie, for example).
In 96, Angra did what I like to consider "Brazilian folk metal", metal with BR elements and influences, in their album "Holy Land"
Tumblr media
The concept of the album was like, the great navigations but it was also kind of a commentary in colonization - Brasil is our "holy land", and a lot of the songs feature this epicness and bittersweetness, joy and sorrow of being BR. The songs are in ENG, which is kind of ironic, but still The songs being in ENG is due to a lot of factors tbh, all of them involving the fact that Brazil doesn't embrace metal a lot, and they wanted to to sell their songs outside BR bc of that. Which sucks, but i get it.
Here we have CAROLINA IV, an epic describing a ship at sea, and it also references the Portuguese who arrived in BR back in the 1500s.
youtube
The song is all in ENG except the intro, which is a chant dedicated to Iemanjá / Janaína / Iemoja, the orisha of the seas and the most well-known orisha around here, if I'm not mistaken
"Hail, hail Yemoja, Hail Janaína And everything that was made in the waters They throw flowers at the sea God save the Queen And my journey on this sphere An orishas' caboclo Soon leaves the Earth Meeting his fate Where the sky meets the sea He will find his safe harbor And that's how it ends..."
Black culture and religions are strong here in BR, and this chant and the instruments used are a tribute to them <3 If you guys know of or remember Michael Jackson's "They Don't Really Care About Us", that's the same beat/Afro-Brazilian influence - in MJ's song, it was the famous group Olodum who did it, I don't know if they were involved in Angra's Holy Land though. "Carolina IV" is a very long with a lot of changes in pace and even genres (again, classical music interludeTM). It's very epic, very 80s metal, and very Brazilian as well, it has everything I love, ahhh <3
In the early 2000s, Andre left Angra and he and other, previous Angra members formed the band Shaman.
I think it's good for me to reiterate at this point that while we had bands like Angra and Sepultura, the metal genre WAS NOT and NEVER WAS mainstream here in BR.
So, the fact that Shaman became incredibly popular in the early 2000s because one of their songs "became to mainstream" was kind of an anomaly. THIS, MY FRIENDS, is where my story with Andre Matos' music starts. Because this was early 2000s, I was around 13 and the reason why I knew about the band, alongside hundreds of other teens at the time, was because a song by Shaman became soundtrack to a BR telenovela. The telenovela in question was O Beijo do Vampiro ("The Vampire's Kiss") and as the name suggests, it had vampires and 'edgy dark fantasy stuff' cause it was more targeted for a younger audience, as the protagonist was this middle schooler aged boy who was actually the son of a vampire.
The BANGER, THE ETERNAL, EVERLASTING ANTHEM from Shaman they chose as a soundtrack to that freaking telenovela was "Fairy Tale", from their first album "Ritual":
youtube
I swear to god, this song is fucking everything to any Brazilian metal fan my age. It was a literal game changer to a lot of us, because this was how we discovered or started really appreciating metal, since we were too young to catch on Viper in the 80s or Angra in the 90's. Other bands like Evanecscence, Nightwish and Linkin Park were also starting to become popular, so a lot of metal styles were coming around around that period.
Including a Brazilian singer that also leaned more towards a heavier sound, Pitty! That song is from her first album.
ANWYAY, BACK TO ANDRE MATOS - I'll make an exception here, and share two versions of the same song. I've shared the official videoclip with the studio recording, and below, is a very beloved live performance from 2003:
youtube
I'm sharing both versions because they are slightly different - studio ver starts with a religious chant in latin, and the live version includes a violin, played by Marcus Viana (another conductor and a famous composer of soundtracks for Brazilian shows and movies). In the live ver you can also see Andre Matos SLAYING on the piano because dude was a literal master of his craft ksjdfhksjdf
The song starts all calm with the piano, very lullaby-like, and then BAM!, 80s METAL HAIRFLIP AND GUITARS AND EPICNESS. And then it ends how it started. It's such a beautiful track. I love it so much, such a true banger. Makes me nostalgic AF, and I love the "epic tale" nature it has.
Another personal favorite of mine from that time comes from their second album, a track called Born to Be:
youtube
I love how it mixes mellow piano lines with heavier metal arrangements, it was kind of their thing and they did it so well! And by the way, I am aware the name of the band / cover of first album might be considered problematic nowadays?? It was the 2000s, unfortunately those things happened a lot. It's looking back into our teen years and realizing things were not as pristine as we remembered fskjdfhksd oh man. But yeah. Aside from that, the songs slap so hard, specially if you like the 80s metal feel. And speaking of the 80s music, Andre covered some pretty badass, daring songs over the years, not only but including... ..."Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" from Journey, which he recorded after he left Shaman and went solo in the late 2000s:
youtube
I cannot affirm that for a fact, but I think this cover is sort of a "meme" because it was kind of a recurring joke that Andre Matos sang like Bruce Dickinson but looked like he was Steve Perry's "long lost son". Steve Perry was the most well-known vocalist from Journey. The "Dont Stop Believin" Journey:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The picture above is Andre when he was like 15yo in Viper btw dfkjjsdf) And like, this is pretty fucking funny cause if you are here following my art for long enough - like REALLY, REALLY LONG ENOUGH, around 2009 deviantart -, you'll def remember me in my Journey/Steve Perry phase. And my Andre Matos phase too, it was around the same time lol
ANYWAY. BEST FOR LAST. CAUSE THE LAST IS "WUTHERING HEIGHTS" COVER. THE KATE BUSH "WUTHERING HEIGHTS". YEAH. THAT ONE.
youtube
Madlad decided to make a metal cover of Kate Bush with this falsetto voice and he just. He just did it. DIDNT CHANGE / ADAPT THE LYRICS, EITHER. You'll hear 22 year old Andre Matos in 1993 fucking scream at the top of his lungs HEATHCLIFF IT'S ME CATHY, I'VE COME HOME, I'M SO COLD LET ME IN-A-YOUR WINDOW. And he's singing VERY VERY HIGH NOTES, this song is fucking hard to sing y'all, I'll let you know right now lol. Anyway.
Here was the Andre Matos / Angra / partial Brazilian Metal history for you, and I hope you like the song recs, and if not, I hope you enjoy the trivia at least!
Remembering his music earlier made me nostalgic, but also made me sad, bc a lot has happened ever since 2003 and the "Vampire Telenovela". I've created OCs inspired by him - it was a two-in-one sort of OC, and he's retired for over a decade now; and I didn't do much with him anyway, so no artworks to show.
And I'm seriously considering bringing his music and influence back to a more recent OC (if you read my post about me looking for a new voice to my transitioned OC, that's what I'm talking about). It's a funny way to go back to where some things started.
That (and a lot of other, unrelated stuff) made me super sad earlier.
Andre Matos left us way too soon, and like I said earlier, it's always weird remembering he's dead, because it doesnt feel like that, to me. Maybe the fact I always "forget" he's gone is because his music and influence on me as a person still lives on, which is sort of a comfort~

DOCTRINE OF (COUNTER) REVOLUTIONARY WARFARE: Brief considerations on the French model in combating national liberation movements.
Since 1959, the French doctrine of "Counter-Revolutionary Warfare" was assimilated by the Superior War School (ESG) as a justification for the geopolitical context of the Cold War and the progressive development of social movements in Brasil.
This doctrine considers that revolutionary warfare differs from conventional warfare in its combination of politics, ideology, and military force.
Revolutionary warfare, understood as the Marxist-Leninist application and later enriched by Mao Zedong's theoretical contributions on the Chinese revolutionary process, was identified as an insurrectional instrument not only of communist movements but also of various others.
As a strategy, the French doctrine has a mirror effect. Learning from the lessons of defeats in colonial wars in Indochina and Africa, against communist and national liberation movements, it aims to combat the progression capacity of revolutionary warfare. It identifies the psychological element, the struggle for hegemony of ideas, as of fundamental importance for the effective seizure of power.
Thus, it is a matter for counter-revolutionary forces to engage in a struggle for progressive hegemony over the population through psychological warfare. In short, to prevent, through psychological and ideological factors, the emergence of activities and ideas that could feed and facilitate the co-optation of military and civilians for communist movements and national-popular aspirations.
Thus, it aims to undermine the actions of those considered enemies in order to achieve hegemony of thought, strengthen internal ideological cohesion, and weaken internal enemy cohesion.
For Brazilian military adherents at the time, it involved the development of their own counter-revolutionary doctrine, whose progressive hegemony over the population and military would make it possible to unleash the final stages of the "counter-revolutionary war," which eventually culminated in the 1964 military-corporate coup. The political association between the military and civilian sectors, such as the UDN (National Democratic Union), is evident in their opposition to movements of communist, socialist, and labor workers united around President João Goulart's base reforms. This opposition was manifested through the organization of anti-communist civilian movements and discrediting the actions of the government. The Cold War and global ideological polarization were used as justification for anti-communism and for the idea of Brasil's role in the Cold War, as understood through the influence of the French doctrine and the American doctrine of national security. There was a need for a rhetoric of military-civil unity in combating the "internal enemy" that was unleashing a "revolutionary war." Such mobilization would require, for the military, a military intervention in civil society, coordination among all sectors of the state, and cooperation between civil society and the Armed Forces. In this sense, the role of the military intellectual stands out in the formulation of a doctrine, ideology, and thinking about the role of the Armed Forces in Brasil and their "mission" for the historical context, where Latin America was one of the theaters of ideological dispute of the Cold War. For these military intellectuals, developing countries needed to conceive doctrines that were suitable for their national realities and geopolitical alignment. In the realm of law, this meant the alteration and creation of laws aimed at restricting civil rights and combating what they considered as the internal enemy, as the Brazilian capitalist democratic regime, in their view, provided "excessive guarantees" for the development of "subversive" internal agents. In summary, the assimilation of the French doctrine of "Counter-Revolutionary Warfare" and its application in the Brazilian context during the Cold War represented not only a military strategy but also a profound transformation in the social and political fabric of the country. The pursuit of ideological hegemony, the justification of anti-communism, and the implementation of repressive measures not only shaped the relations between the military and civilians but also redefined the boundaries of Brazilian democracy, civil rights, and the national-popular project of President João Goulart. The legacy of this period continues to reverberate in contemporary Brazilian society, underscoring the importance of understanding the past to address the challenges of the present and the future.

Ainda sente borboletas no estômago?
Tumblr media

'The tragedy in the south of Brazil is a consequence of the minimum state plan,' says researcher
Mima Feltrin says that Porto Alegre city hall and the state government are outsourcing their obligations
Tumblr media
In October 2023, Porto Alegre, the capital city of Rio Grande do Sul, had just experienced its most serious flood since the historic one recorded in 1941. At the time, to the disbelief of many, Brazilian architect and researcher Mima Feltrin said that, at any moment, Porto Alegre could experience a flood more intense than that eight decades ago.
“All it takes is winds to change, the conversion of the rivers in the escarpment, a series of climatic factors that could cause that same flood,” she said in an interview with Brasil de Fato Rio Grande do Sul, published on October 7, 2023.
Now that the waters of the Guaíba River have not only broken their 1941 record, but done so repeatedly, we spoke to Feltrin again. She has a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS, in Portuguese), with an academic exchange program at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, Barcelona. She is currently working and studying areas such as public spaces, waterfronts and environmental disasters.

Did anyone explai to you the thing about race on universities and the supreme court? It is basically like we have in Brasil. A part of the vacancies are separated for black students as a historical reparation. For what I've seen the USA supreme court said no to this.
no, but from what i’ve heard wouldn’t not considering race as a factor prevent discrimination tho?
