Fallout OC Questionnaire

2) Which faction(s) did they join and which did they destroy? Why?

Alicia joined the Minutemen and the Institute. For the first part of her journey she planned to destroy the Institute for taking Shaun. Upon learning Shaun is Father she sided with them, including their plan to make a ‘replacement’ of her to infiltrate the Railroad.

Evie has quite a journey. She started off as Institute supportive until she started doubting her ‘non-humanity’. Once she helped on her first package run (H2-22 in Boston After Dark) she went rogue. She wears Alicia’s identity as a mask whilst working with the Minutemen and sided with the Railroad.

Ultimately they both side with the Railroad and the Minutemen to destroy the Institute. I’m unsure what’ll happen to the Brotherhood but needless to say they aren’t on the same side.

3) What is their S.P.E.C.I.A.L.?

All of Evie’s stats are higher than Alicia because she’s had more experience in the wasteland (the equivalent of levelling up). I think Alicia would have a higher intelligence after her time in the Institute and Evie would have a higher Charisma from both Deacon teaching her how to read people better and just being a recognised face in the Commonwealth. So...

10) What do they fear the most?

They are both scared of failure. To be a disappointment. Alicia is scared of being a disappointment to Nate, to Shaun, to Preston and the Minutemen. Evie has the ironic bonus of being terrified of betrayal. She’s scared of what her betrayal will do to her friends in the Railroad and she doesn’t want the same happening to her.

14) What’s their zodiac sign or which one do you think they relate to the most? What are their placements (if you know them)? (ex. Aries sun, Taurus moon, Aquarius Venus)

Alicia is a Capricorn (January 12th)

Evie is a Taurus (May 12th)

19) What natural alignment are they? (ex. Lawful Good, Chaotic Evil)

Evie I’d say is somewhere between neutral good and chaotic neutral, but mostly chaotic good. She tries her best to help everyone with the resources that the Minutemen and Railroad provide to her and is quite self sacrificing when she needs to be.

Alicia is neutral good whilst with the Minutemen and True Neutral whilst with the Institute. She does keep the morals she has from the Minutemen but buries them deep to help Shaun.

26) How do they come off to others? What first impression do they usually make?

In both cases it’d depend on how you meet them.

As a ally you’d see kind eyes and a warm smile.

As an enemy you’d see from determination. They have people to protect and damn them if they won’t try their best.

Alicia gives off warmth whilst topside. She is a friendly face as long as you don’t try to hurt anyone she loves. She comes off as a little gullible at first. In the Institute she’s a little closed off. Duller eyes and less smiles.

Evie has a slight guard to her eyes. It’s subtle, easily explained by wasteland experience, though around people she trusts that edge just melts.

42) Their opinions on ghouls, feral and not feral?

Alicia was terrified of ferals when she first got out. She had no clue what they were so panicked and thought they were zombies. To be honest she was terrified with everything except Radstags and Brahmin after leaving the vault.

Evie is scared of ferals in the sense that they’re a potential threat. That said, Evie’s first experience with ferals after joining the Railroad was that random encounter with the SoSu’s old neighbours and that gave her quite a breakdown and identity crisis.

Neither of them have a negative opinion of ghouls. Both want to stop the discrimination against them because, to them, they’re just people.

51) Anything they like to collect? (ex. Unique weapons, Bobbleheads)

Both of them collect ‘Quest Items’. There’s a safe in the Sanctuary house filled with things like Kellogg’s gun, MacCready’s soldier, and Deacon’s recall code. They both also collect bobbleheads and comics.

Evie and Lucille are both Synths so they are both resistant to radiation. All 4 have some form of chronic pain from the build up of injuries. Aidan has had the longest exposure to radiation of all of them

26. How would others describe them / their disposition?

Alicia - Kind but reserved. Outside of the persona she puts on as General Clarke she is quiet and thoughtful, but blind to anything involving her family

Evie - Friendly and passionate. Perceptive ones would get the feeling she's trying to hide something.

Aidan - Blunt and Loyal. Bleeding heart buried deep deep down. Those who are close to him are all that matter and he would die to protect them

Lucille - Timid but good-humoured. In combat she is ruthless.

30. What decisions have they made or actions have they done that affect their canon wasteland? (Did they blow up Megaton, have they killed/spared any major characters, etc.)

Derailed takes place before the events of F4. Its events lead to Boomer becoming the leader of Outpost Zimonja and certain events aid Evie and the Railroad in Liar Liar’s timeline, such as the awareness of the fall of Augusta safehouse.

Alicia is the Sole Survivor and completes Acts 1 & 2 and all that entails (saving Nick, killing Kellogg, Entering the Institute etc) and also helps with various side quests and companions (Nick, MacCready etc)

Whilst the Institute is suspicious of Bunker Hill, M4-29 (later Evie) confirms Railroad activities there and leads directly to the eventual Battle of Bunker Hill, though her own self-preservation means that the Institute never gets names or faces. She completes the Railroad quest line from Boston After Dark onwards, whilst Alicia completes the Institute quest line.

32. What is their go-to weapon or weapon class?

Evie - Deliverer

Alicia - at first it was her 10mm, modded to all hell. Then once she joined the institute she favoured laser weaponry

Aidan - back during his raider days he shared a .45 rifle with the rest of the lookout team. He has an allocated pipe pistol from the gang at Outpost Zimonja but has a secret 10mm that he keeps for emergencies

Lucille - Lucille has a scavenged 10mm she bartered from Tenpines Bluff. After the events of Derailed she favours a shotgun

WIP Wednesday

It’s still technically Wednesday for another 40 minutes. This is from my main WIP, working title ‘Liar Liar’.

Alicia stared at the thing in front of her; They were entirely identical, down to the smallest blemish. She glanced at each scar in turn, memories flooding back. A long line on her shin from falling off her bike at age eight, now pale and faded. Some newer – A bullet hole in her shoulder from the fight at Corvega; a gash on her ribs from the Deathclaw in Concord.

But her eyes caught on one. A small, not quite faded burn on her right forearm. Nate had warned her that Codsworth’s thrusters would still be hot. A careless mistake. One that she had laughed at whilst he fretted. God, she missed him.

“Is everything okay?” Her voice, not her words. The synth. It looked concerned.

“Is everything okay, Ma’am?” the scientist asked, though their voice had a barely detectable irritated tone. She looked down and realised she’d been playing with her wedding ring, twisting it around her finger.

“God, do I really look like that?” She laughed, but it sounded fake. It was fake.

This is a pretty early chapter. Alicia is in Robotics and has just met her copy M4-29 (later Evie). Alicia is not happy about this plan but she’ll do it for Shaun.

Whilst Evie and Dr Carrington are actually good friends in my fic I can’t help but think about how they first fully meet. Like, Des has let this strange woman join based on one mission and Deacon’s word alone.

Then he finds out that she’s the Alicia Clarke, General of the Minutemen, the woman who retook The Castle, and thinks maybe it’d be good to have someone else around who’s sensible.

Then Evie (as Alicia) actually turns up for a mission and she and Deacon have immediately bonded and get on like a house on fire and he realises

🌋 What’s your OC’s temper like? Are they a slow boil or instant explosion?

Both of them have a pretty similar temper. Most things are a slow boil, small things stacking until it all comes crashing down. Evie’s temper will snap faster than Alicia’s. Certain things, like injustices and bad treatment of innocents, will make them snap pretty fast. Evie can also hold a hell of a grudge

🥦 Does your OC eat healthily or live off junk food?

Alicia eats healthily, all made possible by the Institute. She doesn’t necessarily enjoy the food and tries to bribe Bioscience into letting her prepare and cook her own food.

Evie lives as healthily as she can but the wasteland doesn’t always allow it. She has all the Minutemen settlements to thank for most of her fresh food, and she hunts or scavenges whilst out and about. When she’s at HQ she actively tries to bring in fresh crops from settlements. But on Railroad Ops she’ll make do with whatever she can get, like a pack of Blamco Mac ‘n’ Cheese and some muttfruit between her and Deacon

Your OC’s opinions on MacCready?

Both of them have mainly positive opinions of MacCready. They both think he’s an amazing shot and are extremely supportive of him both as a person and a parent helping his son. Alicia asks him to step in with Minutemen work if something he can help with pops up, like raider troubles or an extra hand on a patrol or supply line. She knows he was mayor of Little Lamplight so trusts him to be able to aid her settlers. However, they both dislike the ‘merc attitude’ towards help. Alicia became the General to help people because they need helping, not for the money (though she will admit any reward she gets is a welcome bonus). Evie is a little less trusting of him if only because of his negative opinion of Synths.

Long story short, when Alicia goes to the Institute and finds that Shaun is Father she joins up. The Institute makes a synth (later known as Evie) specifically made to look like Alicia to infiltrate The Railroad.

After meeting H2 during Boston After Dark, Evie defects to The Railroad and no longer reports back. She doesn’t tell HQ she’s a synth because she had given information about Stockton to the Institute.

Ask Game

👑 If your OC was made royal (or is royal) how would they use their power? Are they a good leader or bad? Do their subjects like them or is it ‘off with their head’? Do they enjoy being royal?

Alicia took the mantle of General easier than she thought she would. She never wanted the responsibility of a team leader, happy to work in the sidelines, but needs must. If she was royal she would try and run things the same as she ran the Minutemen. She’d be kind and fair, definitely trying to make people like her. She’s no pushover though and would make the decisions that need to be made no matter how hard. Maybe that’d make her unpopular in some people’s eyes.

Evie would not want to be in power, but she would do her best. She compartmentalises traits that came from Alicia and uses her as a persona/mask when the need arises. She’d be similar to Alicia after that.

💕 How is your OC like with physical affection? What are their boundries? Do they enjoy being touched or is that a no-go? Is there any reason behind this?

Alicia was always okay with physical contact. She hugged her friends, gave her coworkers high fives etc and was very affectionate with Nate. It wasn’t until the bombs dropped that she started to get more uncomfortable with it, she didn’t trust many people at first, though people like Preston, Piper, and Nick showed her it was okay. Once she joined the Institute though, oh boy... it was always so strict and professional. She barely ever got to hug Shaun, even when they were working together. It took a while to let herself be touched again after she left.

Evie started off not liking being touched. She’s a synth, born in a sterile, touch-starved world. When she started her infiltration of the Railroad she found herself being jealous of how comfortable the agents were with each other. She put her jealousy down to Alicia’s memories. But people at HQ became more comfortable with her and she realised that she craved the feeling. A hug from Glory after a rough mission, an arm slung over her shoulders from Deacon, a pat on the back from Desdemona. It was a major part in her realisation that she was her own person. Not just a synth, not just a copy of Alicia. She was herself.

When it comes to boundaries...

Alicia doesn’t like people touching the small of her back because of an experience she had whilst working in customer service. A coworker got a little too touchy-feely and made every excuse possible to touch her during her shift, most commonly by putting a hand on her back whilst passing behind.

Evie doesn’t like people touching her hair. When she defected from the Institute she began growing it out and it’s a huge part of her. Only people she trusts are allowed to touch it.

What would be a turning point for your character's morals? How do they change throughout their story? How would your character at the beginning of their story feel about their morals at the end of their story?

Morally they’re both fairly normal by wasteland standards. Alicia was very anti violence towards the start, especially towards humans, but she accepts she might need to after rescuing Preston in Concord. By the time Evie enters the picture they’re both okay with violence, though they both have hard lines on who and when, and will avoid it if possible.

Both Evie and Alicia have multiple turning points throughout their story

Alicia pushes down her morals when she joins the Institute. She doesn’t personally agree with their methods, they kidnap people and replace them. But Shaun is their leader. Her baby Shaun. She is a strong believer in ‘Blood is thicker than water’ and that overrides everything to her.

Evie starts to develop her own set of morals throughout the early parts of her story. She’s dead set on doing her job as an Infiltrator until she meets High Rise and H2-22 on her first package run and it sort of clicks how much other synths were wanting to get out of the Institute and how much and how many other people were willing to do to make sure they got away safely. It’s at this point she decides to defect and joins the Railroad fully.

Throughout Evie’s story Alicia is taking notice of what the Institute does. She sees people who have been taken, and she hears the synths whispering about how to escape. Finding out that Evie defected of her own free will becomes the final nail in the coffin for Alicia’s support and she starts actively finding and helping Patriot.

Whilst I’m unsure if this bit will be written, after the attack on HQ (Glory lives but is out for a while) Evie has no qualms with fighting the Brotherhood. However, she straight up says ‘No’ to Desdemona’s plan for Rockets Red Glare because she knows that there are children on board the Prydwen. She takes Deacon’s second approval speech about looking at what a faction is asking you to do to heart and, surprising her, he supports her in her refusal. Alicia still has good standing with the Brotherhood so she and Haylen plan a ‘field trip’ for the Squires to go see how the Minutemen are run get off the ship (Haylen has lost faith in the BoS because of Blind Betrayal in my fic)

Alicia Clarke was many things. A gunslinger was not one of them.

Yet here she was, pistol in hand, sheltering behind the counter of a semi - no, mostly - destroyed hardware store, taking potshots at a shirtless man in a gas mask screaming at her from behind a pile of sand bags.

This trip to Boston had gone awry.

10) Is your character more dominant or submissive to the people around them? Do they tend to follow others' orders and wait for people to give them instruction in life, or do they charge ahead and make decisions on their own?

I’d say they’re both on fairly middle ground.

Alicia is the General of the Minutemen. She’s in a leadership position and will make the decisions that come with the role. However, she will always listen to those under her command if they have an idea. The only time she’s really ‘submissive’ is when she joins The Institute. She lets her son lead, let’s the scientists decide in the areas she lacks knowledge. She wasn’t exactly comfortable about having a replacement made but she went along with it because it was what Shaun wanted.

Speaking of her replacement, Evie is very similar even after she develops her own personality. She continues leading the MM in the same way as Alicia, but when working with the Railroad she tends to defer to those more senior to her - they’ve been doing this longer than her and know what does and doesn’t work. That said, she will put her own views forward and will not hesitate to argue if her orders go against her morals. Also, if things start to go wrong she will make her own decisions and deal with the consequences later. She’s stubborn like that.

Alicia - To be safe. She wants to live the life of (relative) safety she had back before the War. In her mind living in the Institute with Shaun (and all the luxuries like hot running water) is as close as she’ll get. It blinds her.

Evie - To be just one person. She has many names, many masks, for so many different people. She wants to have her web of lies she made to keep her secret safe unpicked and be accepted as she is. She’s just terrified of the backlash should that happen.

Physical Features OC Ask Game

This got surprisingly long.

👁 What is your OC’s eye color? Do they have any eye-related habits, like winking or rubbing their eyes? Do other people tend to notice their eyes?

Both Alicia and Evie have the same colour eyes, Evie being Alicia’s copy. It’s a soft, kind brown.

Alicia is almost always tired. The unnatural lights of the Institute make her eyes really really tired and dry. The kind that makes the nerves in the eye twitch

Evie has very expressive eyes. When she feels safe she wears her heart on her sleeve. They shine when she’s happy, and she has a glare that could kill. Excessive use of terminals make her eyes twitch too. She tends to stick with paperwork at HQ

👄 What is your OC’s smile like? Is it bright and wide, or thin and reserved? Does your OC wear any lipgloss or lipstick? Do they chew their lips?

Alicia has very full lips, a very reserved, sweet smile. But it’s rare. She smiled a lot around Nate, and occasionally around Sanctuary at first. But, especially after Kellogg, the wasteland takes its toll. It doesn’t really recover at the Institute either. She wears lipstick for a sense of normalcy it brings.

Evie is completely unreserved. Her smile tends to be what’s noticed first. Wide, mischievous grins and kind smiles all the time. She’s learnt to take the small moments of happiness as they come and smile all the wider for it. Evie only wear makeup when required. Fancy events (and the occasional undercover mission)

💇 What is your OC’s hairstyle? How do they maintain their hair? Do they wash it and/or cut it regularly? Have they ever dyed their hair?

Alicia keeps her hair shoulder length and as neat as possible. It was her pride pre-war and she wants it to stay that way. Not the easiest thing to do in the wasteland. She cares for it meticulously, washing it as frequently as she can, and taking trips specifically to Diamond City/ Vault 81 to get a proper trim. Once she joins the Institute she has frequent access to showers and hair serums and the like so her hair goes back to its pre-war state. She did dye it in a green-and-blue dip-dye once for a dare at Uni. Her flatmate did a really good job and it looked really pretty. Sadly she had to cut it off for work at the end of the year

Evie has the most variations in hairstyles. She likes her hair long because it visually separates her from Alicia. She has control over it. Issue is, long hair tends to get in the way. Hence the numerous ways of styling. A high bun is most popular, especially when in HQ and whilst scavenging. She jokes it’s an early warning system for low hanging beams. Deacon teases her that he can tell what she’s been doing by what her hair is (and it irritates her that he’s right). Hair down is the standard when relaxed. Low bun is when she needs it out of the way temporarily. High bun or braid is out of the way more permanently, or while travelling/scavenging etc. A ponytail can be the same as above unless they’re at settlements or at camp in the wasteland. Then it means she’s been/is cooking. It’s a habit from Alicia’s old school days (tying long hair back for cooking and science, etc)
