what made you choose denizens as your main inspo for your fantroll names? is there more lore/characterization for them based on the denizens whose names they match? easter eggs?
(scrolled your whole fantroll tag to make sure i wasn’t crazy and that a yaldabaoth (yiaweh) and a typheus (typhon) existed)
braxas and co were born out of a kind of homestuck AU bubble that formed when guidestuck was really popular. this kind of thing was everywhere in ask blogs and fanadventures that obviously did not have enough substance to last any longer than a hundred pages... what if the consorts were humans who played sburb, what if the LANDS were humans who played sburb, what if sprites like tavris and fefeta were humans and played sburb, what if the guardians were young and played sburb, what if the lusii were trolls AND genderbent... i wanted to get in on the action and i guess it seemed like the denizens were kind of what was left.
at that time it was pretty standard to have fantrolls that were ""based on"" something so i ended up roleplaying as braxas a bunch and he developed so much as a character that he ended up sticking around. the rest of them never really got the same level of care but basically came along with him as accessories. i guess in this way braxas is kind of like my own personal version of sans underfell???????!!!!!!!!!
(ok i googled this and it turns out the sans i was thinking of with all the error stuff wasn't even sans underfell but in fact a completely different popular AU version of sans. so for all the people too young to know what the fuck was happening in the homestuck fandom 10 years ago, that should give you a pretty good point of comparison for the level of swap AU saturation we were at.)
a lot of their characterisation largely still draws from their origins with a little bit of their mythological namesakes mixed in (though their ancestors play out the original myths a lot more faithfully). braxas is probably the least explored denizen in the comic so most of his deal is inspired by the philosophy of abraxas as a concept, and his anguipede lusus is directly based on classical depictions of abraxas. most of their designs can in some way be traced back to their designs in homestuck too, though braxas has probably been through more iterations than anyone else.
i imagine you can also see how i got hemera and nix' horns from their associated denizens' "tails".
their whole sburb story that i don't really talk about because i still have it in my head that it will appear one day fully-formed on the internet as a fanadventure is largely an elaboration on themes of like, becoming a myth and apotheosis and such so the fact that these are trolls who for some strange reason also happen to look and talk exactly like the mysterious gods of sburb has definitely been incorporated into their reason for existing. but like for instance the fact that they all live on their own different conquered alien planets which vaguely look like the kind of planet you might find those denizens on is all part of it

HSETAU
This title is like Alphabet Soup. I only RECENTLY (like, by staring at this title on the spreadsheet I have a long time) realized that it actually has a point. Let me break it down: HS = Homestuck. ET = Extra Terestrial, aka the Stephen Spielberg joint with Reese Pieces I think? And AU = Alternative Universe. Simple, easy title, tells you everything you need to know.
Specifically, this is a webcomic adaption of the “Stabdads” AU, where the midnight crew is governmentally assigned a troll to take care of and have fun, whole shenanigans with. It’s…a fun concept, at least? Idk but this one has been recommended several times, AND it has a lot of favourites, so I’m expecting something interesting at least.
Oh hey if you hover over the pictures it brings up a little ID of what the panel even looks like. I guess it’s for screen readers? That’s a nice accessibility feature that you don’t often see in Fanadventures, so that’s always nice to see. Neat.
Ahhhh…I see. It’s a reverse Stabdad, in that, the ET aliens are the Carapacians, the Midnight Crew, and all the Homestuck Trolls are, in fact, Human. Neat little subversion? At least, neat premise. I think the reason why this is charming me is that it’s doing a lot. Like, usually, in a Homestuck AU, there would be the one central concept, one central hook, which this has—what if the Carapacians went to Earth? Oh, but there’s more! Because not only do we have a Humanstuck AU, we also have kind of like, a Kidstuck AU going on at the same time? So basically, this is swinging for the fences and I appreciate that.
Yep. This is a pretty nice one right here. I would say that this is probably the best execution of this premise that I can think of, so if the premise of the Fanadventure speaks to you AT ALL, you should probably check this one out!

the "fanadventure" as a medium is hilarious to me. a multimedia work revolutionized storytelling by baking its particular themes, motifs, and story structure ideas into a medium that could be called a comic but really takes elements from everything you could possibly do coalescing into a clear focused conception of how to make it the most coherent it can be. and people saw this and wanted to use this revolutionary new medium to... tell the same story with almost all the same themes, motifs, and structural ideas. i mean no ill will to people who write fansessions or fan continuations of homestuck of course but literally nobody is using the medium as anything but a very overt direct relation to homestuck. so what's the point.
#sidenote i also get peeved when authors of these works decide they actually want to distance themselves from homestuck and find it-#impossible to because they've literally constrained themselves to Retell Homestuck But Wacky Thing Happens With Sburb.#you made your grave now lie in it.

I had no idea you even had a webcomic at all!! What is it about and where can I find it? :O
it's a homestuck fanadventure called Try Again, you can read it HERE!! the "4 kids play a game" pitch for it is "12 + 1 trolls play a game. they lose. and then they lose. and then they lose."
the longer version of that is it's a time loop story! breems taleks, sylph of hope, is the sole survivor of its session. guided by the ghost of its ancestor dascha, its mission is simple: go back and save everyone, no matter how long it takes.
you do NOT have to have read homestuck to understand Try Again, but some familiarity with certain concepts (troll romance, classpects, etc) is expected.
also while i'm shilling for myself here are some of my favorite panels i drew for it:
TA updates whenever i feel like it, but almost always on a saturday! i'm trying to be more consistent with it but it's hard because im doing it entirely alone and i'm disabled + it's secondary to my commission work which takes most of my time ^^"

I'm kinda cooking a sequel to the OG Homestuck (no Epilogues nor HS2 included)... when I finish most of the stuff, should I make a blog about it?
NOTE: I'm not sure I will ever make it a fanadventure. I won't, most likely. But I will surely write plots, ideas, concepts, characer designs, etc.

makin dumb fluff au for homestuck because my dumb shit idiot brain keeps doing things. all the big life threatening shit is over and now everyone just lives comfy lives, and also Arquius, Fefeta, and Erisol are there and also robots because robots are fun, based loosely off this post because I wanted to draw arquiusbot. Davepeta is also there not a robot, don’t worry about it. will draw things at some point, but it probably won’t be angst because I am not good at that. so a lot of vibin. ::)
#homestuck#au#its a concept more than anything#not really a defined story just a bunch of one shots#mostly because I was bored#thought it would be fun#and I am right#still doing a different au thing that will be a more defined fanadventure with a narrative and emotional bits and clowns#also the other thing that is not an au I could just call it a fan work I guess with mostly original characters with their own funny issues#I love each of the bastards I created for the fan work and I wish to show all of them to you#much in the same way that a crow would like to show someone a shiny piece of metal#but right now I have a basic very basic idea for shit#you know how it is

How do you create such a cool fanadventure like yours, and how do you make character bibles?
Aw, thank you, that's very flattering!! I'll be sure to pass your compliments onto the rest of the team, too, lol!!
I don't know how much help my advice will be here, since we're still in the Active Development stages, but I'll give what I've learned anyways, both through the project and through other means. Here are some things that will be your best friend in the long run!! Feel free to ask for follow ups or clarification!!
Content Warning: Long, I Guess!
The first thing you need is an idea. I know, that's the most basic thing to start with, but when you have some kind of base concept you want to work with, everything else falls into place with it. Hopefully, anyways. As you develop the story, this foundational concept will also develop. You can have as many beautifully crafted characters as you want, but if you have no plot, or no unifying concept behind the story, they'll go completely to waste.
The second thing you need is something I don't see a lot of people spare themselves, and it ultimately leads to their downfall: TIME. Things like this take a lot of time, and that's not just referring to the active run of the comic. You'll want to give yourself plenty of time to develop the story and it's characters before you really make any publishing moves. Don't just make a basic concept and your main cast and post your first page on the spot- give yourself some time to develop things and get as much planned out as possible for the scope of your story. You'll save yourself a lot of stress.
Dedication!! So much dedication!! Commitment, commitment, commitment. Lots and lots of it. So, so, SO much dedication to the craft. You have to really be passionate what you're doing if you wish to carry through with it and have a good time whilst doing so.
The question here about Character Bibles is very interesting, and very important!! I don't see a lot of people talk about Character Bibles in their writing advice online, and I feel like that's a bit of a crime. To those uninitiated, a Character Bible is an outline document that tells you and whoever else is working on the project everything they need to know about a specific character. It harbors every character detail you could possibly think of- their basic introductory details, their personal history, personality, quirks, everything!! They're incredibly important when it comes to this kind of project- an absolutely necessary thing to have on hand for quick and easy reference!! The aim of the game with them is to not forget literally anything. It's all about consistency and cohesion.
Personally, for Sovereignstuck, we have several bibles per character using varying levels of detail on their specified subject matter. No clue if this is a common method or not, but it’s what works for us. There are some good outlines for what you could write in them online, but my personal advice is to start with charts of the most basic information you have on a character- name, age, orientation, gender, race, class, aspect, et cetera. After that, you can get into the more in-depth stuff. I recommend having a little “Stream of Consciousness” document where all you do is ramble about whatever comes to mind first with the character, write down any questions you have for yourself, figure out answers when you can, et cetera. Stream of Consciousness is a lot more approachable than just pumping out a well structured, well formatted chronological essay on the character off the bat, especially when you’re in early stages and aren’t too familiar with them yet.
If you’re working with large casts, which you most certainly will be if we’re talking traditional SBURB-type fanventures, then spreadsheets are your friend- they are fantastic methods of keeping track of a lot of basic information at once, all with ease of quick reference + comparison. I can maybe make a spreadsheet template for fanventure setups later, if anyone’s interested.
Also, you’ll probably need bibles to keep track of a lot of things in the story! A great example is your personal interpretation of Mythological Roles. It’s generally just a good idea to have some kind of reference page on what your magic system is. Doing all this writing seems overwhelming at first, but you really get the hang of it as you keep doing it.
Also, as general advice, be selfish. This is a project you’re working on for fun, so if you stop having fun, feel free to drop it- whether that’s temporarily or permanently. Put yourself first. Ideally, you will be having fun working on this, and that’s the most important aspect of it all. If you stop having fun, find out why and try to solve the issue! Feel free to hit the bricks literally whenever! Even Hussie did!
Hope this helps at all! Have a lovely day!

So this is a concept idea from Twitter where purple bloods have smoke dens to unwind as a caste bonding setting where they can all just be calm. And I thought that would be a cool idea for fun character interactions or plot moments, added to the fact it's the thing the catapillar smokes in Alice and Wonderland, and the whole magic mushroom thing.
I'm not sure if this chapter will be part of a bigger chapter or just remain a fun bonus story to show case some character bonding, we'll see.
Chapter Preview (Full Chapter on Patreon)
Fandom: Homestuck (Fanadventure)
Chapter Title: [Olive and Purple Smoke] ===>
Word Count: 2,488
A hunter always had silent respect to gift to the lost or sacrificed before she could take pull. Her lips wrapped the mouthpiece with ease as the smoke entered her mouth, flowing down to her air sacks. Her eyes fell shut, and gently you turned her face, pressing your mouth to hers with a pale gentleness, as she released the smoke into your mouth.
A soft purring rumbled within the olive, tucking herself into you. Holding her close, you returned the soft noises, keeping her grounded. Her eyes peeked open with a dazed expression, calmness taking her as the wicked mixture spread through her form. A prong rubbed along her stomach gently in small circles as you let her lazy about in the haze. Pale kisses were exchanged tenderly, the sound of purrs and clicking mixing with the smoke. Your faces rubbed together tenderly, covering one another in eachother’s scent. Feelers tangled in eachother’s hair, gentle scratches at the scalp as you kept one another leveled. The mouthpiece was pressed to her lips again, and she took another, deeper pull, and you held her hand, to keep her mind from drifting to far, feelers lacing together.
When you were sure her mind was at ease and open, you popped the question, “I’mma use the voodoos now… lemme know if I be diggin’ too deep and I’ll pull out right quick…” you told her, and she nodded understanding before her olive globes turned a vivid purple. The voodoos made it easier to see the colors that danced for her. It was really the only way to know what troubled her, without hurting her pride of making her say it, making her face it if she wasn’t all ready yet. It gave her peace. But Olives weren’t like Purples, it was always better to ask first, even though Cheshi knew you wouldn’t do anything to hurt her, physically or mentally.
You papped her face softly, rubbing your feelers over her rumble spheres, easing her gently as she accepted the chuckle voodoos into her pan, opening herself to you completely.
[What has you so troubled…? What ails your mind, and brings such ache to your pusher my most precious of kitties…?]

Heinoustuck
The OTHER big name MSPFA from this era, this one…also has Sprite Shenanigans. But it’s basically the edgier counterpart to GUIDESTUCK, and therefore is also trying to do the horror thing, which seems to be a lot of MOs for a lot of MSPFAs now that I think about it. Also, We are talking SPECIFICALLY about Capital H Heinoustuck. Yes, there are several webcomics all called Henioustuck, and yes, they are all like. Continuations of the same general premise, which is: What if the kids of Homestuck got merged with the prototyped sprites? Or rather, what if they BECAME those sprites, in malformed and hideous ways?
This Fanadventure is TRULY like. What if Homestuck Act 1 was Edgy, man. What if it was DARK AND GRIM AND MAYBE BOTH OF THOSE THINGS AT THE SAME TIME. What if it was SHLOCK. This is the EDGY GRIMDARK REMIX of HOMESTUCK…think you can handle it?
Atleast, at first. But there is some lore that’s unique to this, mainly the idea of TRANSMUTATION. Basically, you get merged to a random object that’s probably symbolic of your journey as a person, and then you apparently become undead and can never die, ever. It’s…an interesting concept, being that it’s like a hyperflexible mythology system but…you don’t want it to happen to you, apparently? This concept certainly gives this comic much more heft and propulsion than other AUs.
I’ve got to say. The animation in this one is smooth. Like, way smoother than typical Homestuck animation. That tends to be the case in MSPFAs, which makes sense, since Hussie was apparently not an animator by trade. Like. There’s a part where John’s holding the door to his bedroom shut, and he’s breathing so heavily that you feel the apprehension, the relief, and yet the dread that comes with it? All in the animation?
So basically, yeah. That was, a rather more compelling read that I’d thought it was. Not like, an all time classic, but I can see what makes this adventure so compelling to like, make continuations out of.

Do you have any joke characters?
hiii thanks for the ask :]!!
Quite a few of my characters started as jokes and quickly or gradually turned into fully fledged ocs.
I think the best example I have at the moment, and most relevant to what I’m working on right now, is Roesee Tarepa. They’re a troll from me and my friends’ homestuck fanadventure where literally all of the trolls are based on inside jokes from our server. Roesee in particular is inspired by this image of tarepanda with really poorly translated english:

Smooth rose
and I originally treated them as nothing more than a joke character for a while until I started having ideas for them…and now they’re basically sans (explanation for what the hell that means down below) and one of my favorite character concepts I have!!

And here’s roesee themself
Besides Roesee I also have Chikky-Fresh. He’s an excitable little chikorita with a comically large puffer jacket and sunglasses who’s trying to sell his mixtape. The idea of him started when I was requested on a stream to draw the Johto starters and decided to give them all accessories, people ended up very amused by how I gave the chikorita DRIP, and it snowballed into chikky-fresh lmao
