Fandom Problem #7633 and #7628 I suppose.
It's so frustrating when there is the claim of nuance, but they never extend that same nuance to non-Africa American POCs.
As a moai, I'm not allowed to take a pre-existing Africa American and turn them into a moai as I would be an evil whitewashing racist. But it's perfectly ok to take a (incredibly rare) moai character and turn them into black African American.
There is this demand that African American characters cannot, under any circumstance, be "white-washed". But it's perfectly acceptable to take any "light-skinned" POC and turn them black. It's completely fine to take "White" characters, of any "white" race and turn them black. But I cannot, under any circumstances, turn an African American character into any other race.
There is always this cry of "you're erasing their blackness!". And yet, those same people see absolutely no problem with taking a "white" character (Japanese, Scottish, Nordic, etc) and erasing their ethnic heritage and turn them into black African Americans.
"If you like this African American character so much then you would need to change their skin-tone!" And yet, you do so with characters who are not African Americans.
That also leads to the belief that African Americans cannot see themselves in any character that does not look immediately like them. There is always this claim that they are simply changing the race of characters to feel represented. That they are incapable of empathizing with anyone who does not look just like them.
There is also this belief that anyone who changes a character into an African American is only doing so with the pure need to express themselves. That their acts are benign and decidedly non-racist. And yet, when someone wants to change a pre-existing black character into another race, it's done so with purely racist intentions.
Not to mention, we've gone back to the days of "token characters." That shows and movies and games must have a checklist of specific characters. And those who are of a minority must be treated differently to the "white" characters. And can only be in certain roles. They can never be the villains, as that's racist.
There is always nuance to be had, but only if you raceswap to African American.
Moai? I meant Māori. God damn, I can't spell today.
Posting as a response to a previous problem.

Nine years ago, if someone had told Kent Parson that he would attend eight years of school and become a veterinarian instead of a professional hockey player, he would have called them delusional.
But here he is at a small clinic in Providence, fresh out of vet school and ready to start the next chapter of his life.
And then in walks one Russian NHL player who seems to be having a lot of problems with his cat...

Fandom Problem #7628:
I can't stand racebending and the main reason for it is because apparently it's only allowed in one direction. that being making a character darker.
it's like saying you can't cisbend characters into men, but only into women.
it should be that either everything goes or nothing. but not this hypocrisy where only 1 is allowed.
