I can’t believe I went into the newest Fantastic Beasts movie expecting the only mention of Grindelwald’s and Dumbledore’s relationship being that one scene in the restaurant and having my whole world flipped upside down. Holy shit was I surprised. Not only was that the FIRST scene but their relationship was literally mentioned in every other scene.

Headcanon:

When his brother was born, it was Theseus who decided that “Newton” was too toplofty a name for such a shy, quiet child. He started calling him “Newt” and somehow this nickname stuck with him when they grew older and Newton didn’t shed this certain awkwardness he had already possessed as a child.

Some things changed, though. It has been a long time since Newt referred to his brother as “Thes”.

Newt: I don't think that would be a great idea.

Theseus: C'mon, don't be shy, you obviously like her a lot and it's time you get yourself a girlfriend!

Newt: ... Sylvia is literally a Ukranian Ironbelly.

Theseus: Please forget everything I just said. Don't take her out for dinner.

My #1 post of 2022

Just watched SoD, it's almost 4 am and I am happy and overwhelmed. Here are just some first impressions in the order that come to my mind, so massive spoilers below the cut!!

Newt is the sweetest and kindest human being this world has ever known.

Jacob too!

I seriously thought for a few seconds Jacob would become Supreme Mugwump. XD (It would have been really epic though.)

Basically everything Jacob said was hilarious, I just love him so much!!!

Mads Mikkelsen just was so so so so so good! Of course Grindelwald had much more screen time than in the previous films so it was easier, but still he managed to bring a depth and some kind of ... likeability to Grindelwald's character. I liked that very much.

I also appreciate how clear they made that Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald (Although this can't be called a secret, really. :D)

Albus had no secrets left, it was really about Aberforth?!?! Whew, I mean, I thought it could be coming, but still ...

Also: What's wrong with the Dumbledores? Ariana is an Obscurus, Aberforth's son is an Obscurus ... And how did both brothers manage to make such grave mistakes in only one summer?

I don't feel like after everything that happened in SoD, Aberforth has the right to still be so angry and cold against Albus (as shown in HP).

Newt was really lucky he wasn't killed in his first scene. :0

In general I was surprised by the really lighthearted tone of the film - even in the more dramatic scenes I was never really afraid someone would die.

THIS FILM HAD WIZARDS ON ROOFTOPS, I AM HAPPY.

Newt was so happy and excited so many times, so I am very happy and excited now!!! How cute was it when he met Lally and they were basically both fangirling about each other???

Newt saying "She is" when talking about Tina, omg!!! And them finally meeting again!!! (Damn Lally, bad timing!!!!)

I'm not really content with the explanation they gave for Tina's absence, though. I mean, Theseus is head auror too, and he seems to be able to go and do where/what he wishes.

Can we talk about the wide grin on Theseus face when he witnessed just how much in love Newt was in the end?? Maybe that's even my favourite moment! Him just being so happy for Newt and looking out for him and EVERYONE BEING HAPPY FOR A CHANGE!!!

Ok, maybe my favourite scene was Jacob being happy and closing his eyes so he won't see Queenie before the wedding ceremony and he's GETTING MARRIED TO QUEENIE AAAAHHHHH!!! I must say I had lost hope for the two of them!

Will Newt and Tina kiss offscreen now?!?!?

Dumbledore, whyyyy didn't you go into the bakery? Isn't it actually a bit impolite to just wait around in the street and walk away??

Newt practising his speech as best man *-* I love it how clumsy he was during every situation he was in a kind of leading position.

How did Aberforth and Credence establish the mirror connection???

I'm a bit confused and so, so tired.

How did Aberforth even find out Credence was his son??

Maybe Credence doesn't have to die. We know that Newt can separate an Obscurus from its host, so maybe he can save him?

Wtf they did break the blood pact by ACCIDENT???? NOOOO, I'm not happy with that!!! That's to ... easy and random.

Just for the record, snow is not the usual weather in Berlin (but then there always seems to be snow everywhere in the FB films XD). I rather liked wizarding Germany btw. The architecture and the little details like the signs and the stamps (a cliché that always works because it's funny and also still true I'm afraid).

The scene with Theseus and Newt in prison was a bit random but super funny, so I'll allow it. XD But I'm still disturbed that they just stunned Theseus and dragged him away and everyone was like ... it's alright, we can look for him later. (It's also not very healthy to hang upside down, but Thesues can manage it ... because. Because he's epic and very handsome and I like him very much.)

The brothers finally, finally bonding!!! Not talking, though. But who needs to talk anyway.

Bunty was great! I'm happy that she was not helpless in her love. She's still in love with Newt and he has no clue and she knows it's in vain, but she's not jealous or bitter but makes a deliberate decision to help. She definitely deserves more credit.

Contains slight SOD spoilers!

At this point I'm comforting myself with the thought that maybe, maybe Albus apparates to Nurmengard later in the day after their duel, probably at night, tearing through the wards like they're nothing.

To his power, they really are, and the person's magic, who put them up, is so similar it feels like coming home instead of invading his supposed-to-be enemy's headquarters.

He's ready to flee, should Gellert want to fight with him if he regrets not killing him when he stood with his back to him, so the view, that awaits him, takes him aback.

Gellert is a wreck.

He had been crying for some time, judging by his eyes, bloodshot and puffy, and the small tremors running through his body. His clothes are the same as they were in Bhutan, he didn't care to change.

His bedroom, ever so neat and well-kept, is a mess.

The desk and chair are in pieces, books cover the carpeted floor like fallen leaves cover the ground in autumn.

Did his magic explode as his anger and feel of betrayal lashed out, emotions no longer being able to kept under control? Or did he destroy everything with his two hands?

Did he really drink half a bottle of scotch on his own?

Albus had seen Gellert in many various states, but shitfaced drunk, barely clinging to consciousness is something new, and he's not sure he likes it.

Alright, let's be honest, he straight away despises this state of him.

When he steps over the threshold, Gellert looks at him with so much fear in his eyes it makes his steps halt.

"Go away," Gellert rasps out, "I know why you're here. Haven't you tormented me enough already?'

"I mean no harm, Gell." Using the old nickname may be cheap, but it does the trick. "I wanted to check on you. I was worried."

"How come? You never cared about me before. You came, spoke the words you knew I need the most, until I believed you actually meant them, then you disappeared. As visions do. Spare me this time, just this once. Please. It hurts so much. I can't."

In that moment Albus realises that Gellert thinks he's just another shadow of himself, one that promises him all the things he's craving for - his companion, support, encouragement, love, trust, to belong to him again.

He spends a good hour of proving Gellert he's real.

Reassuring his heartbroken husband that his love didn't stopped pumping the blood in his veins despite the pact being broken.

When Gellert can finally stand, Albus undresses him, helps him to change, tucks him in and holds his hand until he's asleep.

He shouldn't stay, that's the worst idea he's had since a long time, but Gellert turning to alcohol or any of his old methods of coping with pain would be even worse.

So he lays down next to him, closes his eyes, and when he wakes, it's because of ashen grey curls tickle his nose, and their bodies are pressed so close together as the mere thought of parting would tear them apart from each other's arms.

!!!SOD SPOILER ALERT!!!

I got out of the cinema a few hours ago, and I'd like to mention a few things:

1. "the summer Gellert and I FELL IN LOVE" I couldn't believe my own ears. They could have used many other expressions, like "met" or "got acquainted", but no, WB really gave us the whole truth. They. Fell. In. Love.

2. Albus's blissed out face when he sees Gellert, the way he closes his eyes, I bet he can feel him in the room even if he doesn't see him, his magic; and my darling really looks like Gellert's presence is balm to his aching soul (and a bit like he's just had an orgams but it's just me and my dirty mind).

3. Once they're touching, the fight is over. Immediately.

4. Gellert is mad about the blood pact, and doesn't even try to hide it. One does not throw himself off of a cliff unless he's seriously done with everything.

5. Did Gellert use to cradle Albus in his arms the way he does it with the Quilin?

Dream always greets Hob at the door when he comes home after several hours of teaching, until one day he doesn't.

Hob enters the apartment, confused, as he knows Dream is in there, yet cannot imagine a thing why he doesn't come to exchange their almost mandatory good-to-see-you-i-missed-you-terribly kisses.

Quietly, he makes a beeline to the bedroom, and as he steps through the threshold, he's offered the most adorable view he's ever encountered in his long life: Dream's lying between their pillows in the middle of the bed, his starlight-patterned blanket pulled up to his waist, and on his naked chest there's Jessamy, who must have returned from the Dreaming sometime during the day because she definitely wasn't here when he left in the morning, now curled up in her sleep.

"She fell asleep about half an hour ago," Dream whispers as their eyes meet. "I would wake her if I moved. She's dreaming about us, Hob, she's so happy to be with us."

Hob decides it's a perfectly understandable reason for his beloved to change their regular routine.

Jessamy Reincarnation AU

What if Jessamy, instead of entering the Sunless Lands, reincarnates after her death, and meets Dream in her next life?

Just imagine. Hob and Dream are walking hand in hand in a park, passing by a group of kids. They're all orphans, enjoying their daily outing, running around, playing catch, Dream doesn't pay much attention to them, but then there's a little girl with pale skin and raven-black hair, she's lively and cheerful and their eyes meet and the recognition sends Dream to his knees because it's her.

Jessamy runs to him so fast that she almost trips over her own feet, while Dream is already honest-to-god weeping by the time she reaches him. Their embrace would be bone-crushing if Dream wasn't scared of hurting her - he doesn't spend much time around children, you see, the last time he held one in his arms was eons ago -, and his hands are trembling as he cradles the precious child closer, not quite ready to let go of her yet. He feels Hob kneeling down behind him, a steady hand on his back, a gesture of grounding he's immensely grateful for.

"You're Dream," says the girl with such certainty that shatters his heart in two then mends it immediately again. "You're my Papa."

Another sob threatens to break from his throat and he feels like someone stabbed him in the chest with a sword, but the last thing he wants is to scare away Jessamy, who's smiling at him as if not a day has gone by since they last saw each other.

"I can be your Papa if you want me to," Dream promises, no, swears, on everything he has, "my dear Jessamy. How much I missed you."

He has no idea how much Jessamy remembers, or how a legal adoption process works, he doesn't know a single thing save that in this life he won't let any harm come to her, and she will be the happiest, most cherished child of two worlds.

newt cut out tina's pic from the newspaper in COG coz at that time they weren't that close penpals to exchange photos (or maybe even their relationship became more complicated) so tina sent (or gave) him her pic in SOD and he was carrying it with him all the time

i see everyone talking about how lavender is symbolic for gellert and how it’s shown to represent him and his identity as a gay man throughout the films but why isn’t anyone talking about albus and how the 18th-century word ‘dumbledore’ literally means bumblebee and the well known fact that bumblebees love lavender

also fun fact bumblebees are attracted to lavender more than any other kind of insect or bee

Spoilers for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore under the cut!

Grindelwald was gone, at least, for the time being. Dumbledore, Newt, and the group had scared him off and you felt safe for the first time in forever. You had joined in the fight against Grindelwald early, since you were a good friend of Tina. Ever since that day, you had lived in fear of being kidnapped, hurt, killed, or a combination of the latter.

One good thing that came out of your association with Newt and his group of heroes was that you met Theseus, your wonderful boyfriend. You had gotten together after Leta died. For the first couple of months you felt like only a shoulder to cry on, but over time, your relationship had grown into so much more.

It was peaceful now on top of the hill. The mountains of Bhutan extended for miles and, when mixed with the endless clouds, it provided a serene backdrop for the events of the day.

“Newt?” you heard Theseus ask his brother, who was now talking to Dumbledore, “May I take him?”

You turned around to find your boyfriend, Theseus, with his back turned to you. He was wrestling with something in his arms. Whatever it was, he seemed to have it under control. Seeing this, you returned to your conversation with Bunty.

“As I was saying, I always knew Newt would rid the world of Grindelwald. I’m just happy I could help,” Bunty smiled, looking over to the shorter of the two Scamander brothers. It was painfully obvious how much she loved Newt- too bad he would likely never notice.

“You did much more than help,” you told her, “You’re the reason we were able to stop him! You brought the Qilin to him.”

Bunty nodded, then spied something over your shoulder.

“Speak of the devil,” she said. You turned around. Theseus was approaching, the small Qilin baby snuggled tight against his chest. Bunty went towards them first. She cooed at it like it was a newborn baby while patting its head and scratching its stomach. Theseus laughed at her amusement.

“Would you like to pet it, Y/N?” he asked, walking towards you. Bunty excused herself from the conversation and walked over to Newt and Dumbledore.

“Of course!” you exclaimed, immediately reaching out to pet the Qilin. The animal nuzzled up against your arm when you reached behind its neck. It was warm and loving, exactly like a puppy. Well, exactly like a puppy, minus the fluffiness and arguably better looks.

“The little guy likes you,” Theseus chuckled as the Qilin licked the back of your hand.

“It’s adorable,” you said. The small animal was slowly starting to fall asleep. Its head rested on Theseus’s arm.

“Too bad we can’t keep him.”

“Who’s to say we can’t?” you asked. You had always wanted a big pet of some sort, but Theseus never relented. He didn’t want an animal roaming around your apartment. That being said, with Theseus happy about the successful effort in stopping Grindelwald, now was the perfect opportunity to convince him.

“Well, Dumbledore and Newt probably want to keep it. You know, so it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.”

“Sure, but Grindelwald isn’t going to be a problem for a while,” you quickly looked for something wood to knock on so as to not jinx it, “in the meantime, I think we could give it a good home.”

Theseus raised an eyebrow and smiled, “You know I don’t want a pet.”

“But, as you said, it won’t be ours! Dumbledore and Newt will technically own it, but it’ll stay with us in the meantime,” you pleaded, “And, besides, I don’t think a Qilin counts as a ‘pet,’ so your argument doesn’t work.”

“He does seem to like me..” Theseus mumbled. He grabbed the Qilin and held it upwards, so they looked into the animal’s eyes. After a moment, he hugged the Qilin and it returned to its comfy spot in his arms.

“I suppose we can keep him.”

A wide grin became plastered on your face. You reached your hand around to the back of Theseus’s head and pulled him gently into a kiss. It was soft, perfect: all of the tensions of the day were finally washed away. Of course someone had to interrupt it.

“Hey, you two lovebirds,” Jacob shouted, drawing your attention away from Theseus and towards the rest of the group. They had collected their things and looked antsy to leave, “Dumbledore’s ready to head out. I know you guys can, like, teleport home on your own but.. just wanted to let you know.”

Theseus thanked him and slipped the Qilin into your arms. It found a nice spot in the crook of your arm to rest its head and fell asleep.

“Thank you, Jacob. I’ll be right back, dear,” Theseus said. He and Jacob began walking back towards the others.

“Dumbledore, Newt! I have something to ask of you!”

Some of my thoughts about Grindeldore in The Secrets of Dumbledore

So, im REALLY obsessed with this movie and i wrote some of my thoughts and i decided put it here.

First of all, english is not my native language, so im so sorry for any mistake, and obviously, in this post there are spoilers. LETS GO

The Restaurant scene

Their smiles kill me btw

I love the restaurant scene for how Gellert insists over and over that it was both planning a revolution, that Albus not only followed him because they were in love, because HE helped make their plans and HE turned his back on them. Phrases like "It was you who said we can reshape the world" and "Committed to me, to US" it makes that clear

I think that Gellert was so angry with Albus because, in his perspective, he went on with his life as if nothing happened and that bothers him, he has so much anger and bitterness in his heart that he doesn't see beyond appearances

He doesn't want Albus to make excuses, he wants the Albus he MET in 1899 in his side , but he hasn't realized of THAT Albus died with Ariana and only at the end does he realize that Albus left his arms forever

And Albus, this is where I asked myself what was his point in being there, did he just want to try and convince Gellert to break the pact or did he want to see if there was a way to deal with this situation without breaking it? Albus doesn't want to let Gellert go either (even though he knows that isn't the Gellert he fell in love with anymore), he wants to save Gellert and try to save what they have.

Gellert was hurt after Albus said "We can free each other", which is why i think he acts so mean to Albus in the rest of the scene (and in the movie!). Gellert loves and cares about the pact, he carried the Troth with him everywhere for about 28 years, that he had it in a chest pocket, that he sacrificed and risked his escape in order to get it back at the start of COG, it's very obvious that. I think he uses the pact all the time because it's a palpable reminder of the one time he felt understood and loved by an equal. He uses it because it makes him feel close to Albus.

This scene was perfect, and I thanks so much to Jude and Mads performace <3

How they talked about the other in the movie

Someone doesnt feels weird the way they talked about the other with another people in the movie? Like, sometimes it feels like their relantionships was not a secret. Gellert explicity admits to his acolites and Kama he knew and was a Dumbledore´s close friend.

I personally think that Gellert doesnt hide their relationship to anyone, he is very pround and selfish about their conextion (another reason for he posibble cares so much about the troth!). But Albus is the contrarian.

He talks about his realantionship but with a few people, talks about it with Thesus but only for convinced him. And says THREE times he loved Gellert (and one of it was to Gellert himself).

ALSO, Gellert and Albus are so obsessed with each other in the movie, like Albus mentions their love every time he can and Gellert have visions about Albus and look at him with the most look of longing have ever see, THEY'RE OBSESSED WITH EACH OTHER AND I LOVE IT!!

For next, my favorite part of the movie

The almost duel

Frist of all, THE SOUNDTRACK OF THS SCENE IS PRECIOUS AND GORGEOUS, thank you James Newton Howard.

And then, can we talk about Gellert's face in this frame and how he trembles at the mere thought of touching Albus after 30 years and realizing he can't hurt him because he still loves him so deeply?

When they put their hands on each other's hearts, Albus keeps his hand outstretched, Gellert presses his hand to Albus's chest as if he wants to hold on to it, trembles at the thought of hurting him and clings to him in the face of it. His face of him is one of absolute despair, this is the moment where they realize that their destiny is inevitable and that they will repeat this duel one day.

Now something that I find interesting is how Gellert trembles at the idea and lets his guard down for a moment, and Albus holds his wand up, he doesn't like the idea, but he's more determined to do it, that's the moment where he chooses to do what is right and not what is easy.

And Albus, he doesn't even know how to feel about all of this. Should he feel angry with Gellert for left him? Should he be glad that he was stopped in that summer in the worst way possible? Would he be willing to give up the best two months of his life for his sister? He can hurt to the man he loves?

They both love each other, but that is the moment where they have lost each other and their reactions to it kill me. Gellert seeks to emotionally harm Albus and Albus just walks away, he does not seek to harm Gellert with his action from him, but the fact that he turns his back on him and shows a certain indifference after tremendous emotional shock hurts Gellert more and seeks to harm Albus more with his next action

"Who will love you now Dumbledore?, you're all alone" Those words seem more directed at himself than at Albus, he feels alone, and the only proof that someone really loved him lies broken on the ground.

It is also interesting how Gellert goes from calling him "Albus" at the beginning of the film to calling him "Dumbledore" at the end of it

I think Albus was more prepared for the idea of ​​​​confronting him, from the beginning he raises the idea of ​​​​getting rid of the troth and Gellert is resistant to the idea, he doesn't want to, it is the only physical proof he has of his and he clings to it. Item.

Gellert is an emotional wreck and unlike Albus, he doesn't have people who love and support him unconditionally, he's alone.

He is a man who does not know how to deal with strong emotions (and it has been shown since fbwtft) and that is his greatest weakness. Dumbledore always talks about how love is the most powerful magic because he thinks it is what we don't know. He doesn't even feel lovable, but he keeps thinking about it.

And every day I am more convinced that Gellert's feelings for Albus are the reason why he loses THE duel, that Gellert's love for him is enough for him to repent and let him win, and thats why Albus locks Gellert in Nurmergard, because he has faith that he will regret it because he already showed signs of it

The end of the movie

"I was never your enemy..." says Gellert to the public, and then proceed to search Albus, look at him to the eyes and says "...then or now"

I was speechless at first, THIS MAN hurts Albus firts and he feels betrayed and emotionally hurt by him, BUT HE STILL WANTS ALBUS ON HIS SIDE. I HAVE NO WORDS FOR THAT.

The end of the movie is so sad, Albus promeses to Thesues find and captured Gellert after have that moment is so hurtful. See the pact broken is a hurtful pain and he cant explain that.

(btw Newt is a great friend for Albus in this movie, all the time he helps and supports because he knows that this hurts him, he doesn't judge him and that's why i adore Newt so much)

At the very end see Albus seeing the wedding was so sad, i cant belived how that scene is so painful and so happy and the same time. I actually refuse to belive that they dont invite Albus to the wedding, but the fact that he stays alone in the street see something that nows it will never be able to live it's a very hurtful moment, and a very sad ending for him.

Ok so I went to see SoD another time (my heart broke twice) and watching the last scene again made me realize something. Love is a key theme and at the end of the movie, the love all the characters (except for Dumbledore) feel towards someone has evolved in a positive way.

Queenie & Jacob : they marry each other and end up sealing their love.

Tina & Newt : they seem ready to acknowledge their love and to let it grow.

Newt & Theseus : they simply realize how much they mean to each other.

Abelforth & Credence : they truly want to learn how to love/ trust each other.

Bunty : her relationship with Newt isn’t exactly what she hoped for, but she understands that this form of love is still precious and she values it more than ever.

Yusuf : he thought that he only sought revenge but in reality, he cared about Leta and was always capable of love.

But if you think of Dumbledore and Grindelwald…

Dumbledore understands that the love he feels for Grindelwald will never fade, but he can’t give in to it anymore. "Do what’s right, not what’s easy".

It’s truly heartbreaking because we know that he will always remind the others how precious love is… despite being himself so unfortunate in love. He was loved and he loved people, but in the end he’s the one who was never able to "love freely" the man he desired.

!!!SOD SPOILER ALERT!!!

I got out of the cinema a few hours ago, and I'd like to mention a few things:

1. "the summer Gellert and I FELL IN LOVE" I couldn't believe my own ears. They could have used many other expressions, like "met" or "got acquainted", but no, WB really gave us the whole truth. They. Fell. In. Love.

2. Albus's blissed out face when he sees Gellert, the way he closes his eyes, I bet he can feel him in the room even if he doesn't see him, his magic; and my darling really looks like Gellert's presence is balm to his aching soul (and a bit like he's just had an orgams but it's just me and my dirty mind).

3. Once they're touching, the fight is over. Immediately.

4. Gellert is mad about the blood pact, and doesn't even try to hide it. One does not throw himself off of a cliff unless he's seriously done with everything.

5. Did Gellert use to cradle Albus in his arms the way he does it with the Quilin?

Remember the old interviews of Rowling saying that Gellert is like Albus’ ‘dark twin’, a morally bankrupt version, and the several times she’s mentioned that they saw in each other qualities that they shared with no one else? 

Now, think of the Qilin’s walk. Gellert can only be chosen by the dead/corrupt Qilin but he craves to be chosen by the real one. He believes in the righteousness of his cause and he always sees himself and Albus as equals. When the real Qilin chooses Albus he’s not even angry because he does not oppose that choice. He understands it. Yet he genuinely believes that he’s the best of the other candidates.

When the Qilin chose Santos, Gellert didn’t just snap because he lost the election. There was something very specific in the wording of Albus’ plea for a second choice: “Just as two of you were born that night, there’s another here, equally worthy.” Gellert always sees himself and Albus as binary stars and he cannot stand how the Qilin as an ‘impartial judge’ disrupts this idea because he feels that it’s one of the last threads that his connection to Albus is hanging from. 

Before that, when the alive Qilin is calling out to the dead one, Newt says: ‘She can’t hear you little one, not here, but perhaps somewhere she’s listening’. Considering how FB works a lot with metaphors, it breaks me to think how Albus too tries to make Gellert hear him, in the sense of seeing reason. There is something broken in twisted in Gellert too, so he can’t ‘hear’ Albus right then, but some part of him IS listening and that’s the very part that will come to the surface when he will ultimately surrender and show remorse.

I’m obsessed by the way Albus says “Gellert and I”. Twice. And how his voice seems to brake a little when he says it. "The summer Gellert and I fell in love". "Gellert and I made plans to go away together".
