The Keystone Pipeline disaster reminded me of something I wrote for fun about a year ago. I worked at a company that had FauxNews on the cafeteria TV 24/7. This was one of my coping mechanisms. Please enjoy FauxNews Theatre.

I caught this little bit on Faux News in the work cafeteria this morning. A beautiful blonde reporter was interviewing a construction-type guy. They were talking about how important the Line 5 pipeline in Michigan is because gas prices are up $1.30 from last year (BECAUSE NO ONE WAS DRIVING LAST YEAR, I yelled at her in my head) and that it’s really safe. To prove its safety, the guy held up a big chunk of metal to show how thick it is. Of course, I just wanted her to keep interviewing him about that piece of metal.

“Is it really all that safe if this piece is missing?”

“Well, this is just a sample that is representative of the actual construction of the pipeline.”

“Are you going to put that piece back?”

“Again, this didn’t come from the pipeline itself.”

“Did you tell anyone you were taking that out?”

“I don’t know if you understand what I’m saying. See, I didn’t remove this from the pipeline.”

“After you put that piece back, won’t it be weaker because of the repair?”

“No, it’s actually very easily repaira… Umm. Listen, the point is, this didn’t come from the pipeline.”

“Who else is cutting pieces out of the pipeline?”

“I told you before. This isn’t from the pipeline.”

“What about the extra damage when someone removes a piece to show CNN?”

“I’m not sure you’re hearing me…”

“Do you know how many cable news networks there are? There could be dozens of pieces missing from this pipeline for miles and miles. One for MSNBC, one for Newsmax, one for Al Jazeera. I bet there are LOTS of pieces missing for Al Jazeera, those terrorists!”

“OK, we’re done here.” guy walks away

“MAKE SURE YOU PUT THAT BACK BEFORE THEY TURN ON THE OIL!!”

Not gonna lie. This has been a really, really hard three days for me. 1st, I worked overnights which was okay except for the #news just being an unending horror movie. It felt unreal to hear another shooting happened and look up to see a different scene of blue and red police lights and hear new yet the same terrifying stories. 2nd, that screwed up my sleep. I can usually sleep okay when I work overnights but the events just kept rolling around in my head and making my heart and soul hurt. 3rd, I listened to advocates on both sides of the spectrum. I listened to the flat tone of the President’s lackluster speech and knew down to my toes that nothing’s going to change. I forget which bland, graying, old guy on Fox this morning said this is the price we pay for our freedom. That’s when I unplugged for a while. I took my #buddy, Joey (pictured), to the park. I colored and listened to a couple of #fairytale #podcasts. I wish I could find some really good #StarWars podcasts that were a single narrator instead of a bunch of buddies #laughing like #hyenas for three hours, that’s got a positive outlook on the Star Wars of today without feeling like s/he is a salesman. Then I took a #nap and watched #BlownAway on #Netflix. No late night comedians. No #MSNBC or #FauxNews. Just snickering every time the words “Glory Hole” were mentioned on the show. What an awful name for the #reheating station. So now the #thunder is rolling in.
