Antecedentes Educativos y Carrera Temprana

REDD+ and Status of Pakistan
Pakistan initiated REDD+ activities in 2010 to mitigate climate change through reduced carbon emissions from the forestry sector. Pakistan received REDD+ Readiness financial support from the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) of the World Bank
Just over 5% of Pakistan’s total land area is covered by forests and planted trees, and every year, the country loses about 27,000 ha of forests. The country faces accelerated deforestation and forest degradation driven primarily by rising population and associated wood demands, and weak governance of land and forest tenure. Pakistan initiated REDD+ activities in 2010 to mitigate climate change…

I'd say the commies per football field (cpf) measurement still has a lot of room for discrepancy.
Firstly we should begin by measuring Soviets instead because as some of us know Russia has been capitalist for 29 years. But then, which kind? Do we measure people from the 1920's USSR, the freshly communist country? That's some ~65 cpf (66 inches avg height). Or Soviets from 1980, which gives us ~61 cpf (71 inches avg/h). That's a difference of 5 whole commies!
And then, do they have to be male? If we measure with the average Soviet lady from the 1980s it rounds up to nearly 68 cpf! The cpf measurement does not include gender equality and a separate fcpf (female commies per football field) should be created, or rather an acpf (average commies per football field).
That is without mentioning the important fact that not all commies are limited to the USSR or even Eastern Europe. Since the fall of the USSR the cpf measurement has become outdated. Should we have started measuring commies from other places? Or should we carry on stacking Russians, now capitalists, on our field? Should a global cpf measurement not be proposed?
I don't know. This system of measurement has too many issues for me to consider using it. I think everyone should just carry on measuring in big macs per yard as we've always done. It's just more precise.
Alrighty then this took a lot of brain power to process lmao

Interview with Lauren Hjalmarson
Firstly, a huge thank you to Lauren, @Laurenlionspeak on Twitter. She was a member of the Club Penguin team from 2008-2010, and was very kind to let Mod S interview her.
S: The easiest question to start things is: You were a character actor and a moderator between 2008 and 2010, But did you do anything else on the team?
Lauren: As Player Support Rep’s we had quite a few duties, and sometimes were asked to help out other departments. Besides my usual work as a PSR (which involved moderating), for example, my team helped with testing Card-Jitsu before its release. During the latter part of my time at CP I also supported Pixie Hollow, Pirates of the Caribbean Online, and ToonTown.
S: Did you ever play-test anything else? Or did you only need to help text Card-Jitsu?
Lauren: That is the only game I remember play-testing atm. We spent a lot of time on that game so the memory is clear. I may have helped with others but that was the major one!
S: Were there any glitches or breaks that you remember from play-testing Card-Jitsu?
Lauren: I remember there being a lot of glitches at first. I think that’s why they needed to outsource this Quality Assurance (QA) work, which is what it was called internally, to the PSR’s. I am not a game developer, but I think the reason was that there were so many potential combinations of cards and all of those would have to have been programmed in terms of which cards trumped which and what the penguin avatars would do in each scenario. What I recall was that those interactions were quite buggy at first.
S: Possibly, there are a couple methods of cards beating each other, and it might have been hard to ensure that Element type outweighed the number value first, instead of number value outweighing the element. Cuz then you might get a 4 power water card that beats a 2 power ice, when it should be ice beating water no matter what. Were there any other departments you helped with, or at least knew of?
Lauren: Exactly. My impression was that it was those kinds of dependencies or hierarchies that gave the programmers trouble at first. I did have interactions with the tech support team quite frequently! Their office was right by the room that my team worked from and I would walk over there often to deliver bug reports and things like that. I was quite invested in seeing things done well so I think I was one of their more frequent visitors. One of those guys pops into my stream now and then actually!
S: I can only guess how many folks gave bug reports to the mascots, which I guess was convenient since you visited them often. Which brings me to my next question- Who were your favourite mascots to play, and why?
Lauren: Actually I don’t recall getting bug reports as a mascot! We got lots of them by email though. Cadence was my favourite character to play by far. I related to her most as when I worked at CP I was very into the electronic music scene. Many of my co-workers were too. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if she was based on our crowd to some extent. There was a thriving EDM scene in Kelowna at the time. Right next door to our office, in another of the Landmark buildings, is a school called CATO (Centre for Arts and Technology). A few major DJ’s came out of that school and were part of my crew. Datsik and Excision in particular became huge. They were part of founding dubstep as a genre. One of the other girls who worked on my team also worked for Shambhala Music Festival, which is a huge, mostly electronic music festival in British Columbia. It was a part of the culture of the community.
S: That’s really neat! Do you think all this might have had an impact on the Music Jam parties in Club Penguin?
Lauren: Good question! Very possibly! I would be surprised if it didn’t!
S: Were there ever parties that were suggested from the community or staff?
Lauren: Ooooh another good question. I am sure there were. The creative team took the players’ suggestions to heart and often made things out of them. I don’t recall any particular parties that came out of our joint suggestions at the moment, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some did come about that way.
S: Were there ever character questions or suggestions that made it into the personalities of the mascots and NPCs?
Lauren: Yes, I’m pretty sure the players came up with Aunt Arctic being the Director. I seem to recall that being a rumour for a long time before it became canon. The players definitely influenced the direction that the characters went. For example, I’m sure the reason that the Penguin Band switched genres was because the players weren’t necessarily huge country fans. Also, while I know the band is characterized as having been country for a time, the term we actually used internally was “rockabilly”. I don’t remember us calling them a country band.
S: I had guessed the switch was also due to marketability, since over the course of its run, it seemed Disney had a deeper and deeper grip on Club Penguin.
Lauren: For sure! That was probably true as well.
S: Were there any characters you didn’t get to play but wanted to?
Lauren: I wish I had gotten to play Dot or PH! I would have loved playing them. They weren’t mascots while I worked at CP though. Also, I have said that I did not play Sensei, but recently I saw some screenshots of his visit in July 2009, and I think I actually did. It was such a short visit that my memories of it aren’t very strong. But I remember his haikus. Especially the one about the chocolate chips. And as PSRs I don’t think that we hung out with the mascots. Only the Online Acting Team was really exposed to their scripts.
S: He had a haiku about chocolate chips?
Lauren: Yeah, I saw it on the fandom wiki! I like that wiki for nostalgia. They have a few of the haikus that he spoke as scripts recorded.
(Note: The haiku was about Cookies, and mentioned chocolate chips. Mod S simply associated the haiku with cookies more and didn’t understand.)
S: Huh! Do you know Sensei’s favourite food is a spicy fish-tea soup?
Lauren: haha I didn’t know that! That sounds kinda gross!
S: There were actually a lot of gross foods in Club penguin. Like Rockhopper’s love of ‘stinky cheese’, which I can only assume is an aged cheese of some sort. Gary also loves cheese, actually.
Lauren: haha I do remember the stinky cheese bit. I guess there were at that! Kids like gross-out stuff. It makes sense!
S: Are there any mascots or characters you think would have been friends with each other?
Lauren: Hmmm… Let me think about that for a sec. I know Cadence and Franky were described as friends in later years, which makes sense to me. I loved playing Franky too! We were told to sort-of “bounce around the room” as Franky — that he had a youthful energy in comparison to the other Penguin Band members, and that was fun to showcase. I think Gary would get along with the other members of the Penguin Band pretty well. Petey K in particular.
S: There are a few people who like to think Gary and G Billy are cousins, due to similar names and colours. What makes you think Gary would’ve gotten along with Petey K?
Lauren: Hmmm interesting! There are style similarities and I see Petey K as the most eccentric of the band members. Aunt Arctic and Gary both have intrepid and enquiring minds so I think they’d connect well as well.
S: Of course. Gary and Aunt Arctic are stated to be best friends a few times in the paper. It’s cute that Aunt Arctic is very openly loving towards her friend.
Lauren: haha that’s funny cause I don’t recall that consciously but perhaps I did subconsciously! My CP knowledge after 2010 is not comprehensive and some of that stuff came out later.
S: It was a pretty large lore-point that Gary has a massive extensive family. You’ve heard a little bit about Gariwald, but did you know about Garugg the Ugg Ugg and Garianna? There were quite a lot of modern characters I feel you may have enjoyed, actually.
Lauren: I don’t think I have heard of them, no! They sound very fun though. I think you’re right that I’ll enjoy learning about them!
S: Garianna was Gary’s great aunt from the medieval era!
Lauren: The CP community is teaching me a lot about the game’s later years and I am really enjoying catching up!
S: I have a feeling you would enjoy playing her if she was a mascot. Quite a lot like a combination of Gary and Cadence- very high energy and quirky, but incredibly science-minded.
Lauren: How fun! I’m sure I would. Another thing that I was going to say was that I could see Aunt Arctic taking Dot or Cadence under her wing in a sort-of mentorship relationship. Which is funny because that actually kinda happened to me! Emma Bullen, Polo’s partner, became like a mentor to me a number of years back and is now a good friend. She is said to be one of the closest things to a real-life Aunt Arctic, having been editorial manager at Club Penguin for a time. *Note that may not have been her exact job title but she did manage editorial.
S: Would you compare any other team members to any of the characters of the game?
Lauren: Hmmmmm good question! That’s a fun one. I am not entirely sure which of the CP team members are public about their involvement but I’ll see if I can match up others.
S: This leads me up to a fun question: If you could create any mascot, what kind of character would you come up with?
Lauren: Oooooh that is a fun one! It’s hard to imagine adding to a suite of characters that is already so great and feels quite complete. I do think that adding gender diversity would be really meaningful to the CP community, so a nonbinary character of some kind would have been a great addition. An artist penguin would be cool too. Like, a visual artist. Also a sportspenguin. Like a skier or something. Was there ever one of those?
S: There is a character with a love of the visual arts, actually! There were also a pair of snowboarders seen in the first DS game. But Gary was fond of doodling, actually!
Lauren: Hmmm true, but I was thinking as a mascot!
S: Fair enough. Perhaps some kind of a painter with a yellow puffle? Since yellow puffles all loved the arts.
Lauren: Yes! that would have been lovely!
S: Were there ever characters that came to be because of player or staff suggestions?
Lauren: Hmmm... I believe Cadence emerged while I was working at CP, and Sensei just as I was coming onboard… Just thinking about when they all came out. I think there was so much creative energy and ideation flying around the studio all the time that it’s hard to trace some ideas to their origin. Like, the players would email the PSRs with suggestions, we would talk about them amongst ourselves and pass suggestions on the creative team (often adding our own flair), and then the magic would take place upstairs! Then we’d gather once a month or so for an event in the little theatre called “Creative Couch” where Gin and Charity would tell us about what was coming up. Often there would be content in those presentations that originated as suggestions we passed on to them. And then the community would consume that content, generate more ideas and suggestions, email us with them and the cycle would continue! Often many players asked for similar things at once. Those were the ideas that were most likely to be passed on.
S: That seems really fun! It’s nice to see how much the community was involved back then.
Lauren: It was really fun! It was honestly an awesome job. I loved it.
S: Have you ever considered lending your help to a club penguin private server? There’s quite a few of them, the most prominent one being Club Penguin Rewritten.
Lauren: Thanks for asking! I’m honoured by the suggestion. It’s a little tricky as I know that technically there are IP issues when it comes to those servers. I signed a very long contract with Disney when I started working at CP that has far-reaching implications, so I’m careful about how I handle CP’s IP. I would also love to work for Disney again and I don’t want to give them reasons not to hire me back at some point. As long as moderation is in place I don’t take issue personally with people recreating Club Penguin on private servers, but I don’t know that I could get involved due to legality.
S: Mm. Mentions of the studio reminds me- You mentioned a few staff-only items on stream. What are some of the items you had, and still own? Have any pictures?
Lauren: Yes! One sec, I’ll snap a few and upload them! Not staff-only exactly, but close!
Lauren: Perfect condition, never opened. My welcome folder! Staff documents were in here when I got hired.
Lauren: I know I still have the Penguin belt clip for my office FOB as well. It is in a memory box though which I’ve yet to unpack since my move!
S: If you ever get to it, I’d love to see that belt clip! I can only assume the fobs were returned?
Lauren: Okay, I’ll keep that in mind! Yes the FOB was returned haha. I do have to get going though unfortunately!
S: Thank you for answering some questions!
Lauren: You’re welcome! I had fun!
