hey. non-jewish advocates for palestine. we need to talk.

PLEASE remember that jewish people are not the enemy. freedom and justice for palestine is not incompatible with protecting jewish people. anyone who tries to convince you that jewish people are standing in the way of freedom for palestine, and that something needs to be done about us, is an opportunist using palestine to target jewish people.

this goes ESPECIALLY for people who are not themselves palestinian or connected to palestine.

there are so many jewish people fighting for palestine's freedom, putting ourselves in harm's way, losing people in our lives because of our unconditional defense of innocent people living and dying in gaza. don't ignore that when you see people making sweeping statements about jewish people. don't ignore antisemitism masquerading as pro-palestinian sentiment.

we are not enemies. we are not on opposite sides. don't throw us to the wolves or excuse antisemitism in the name of the cause. so many of us fight for palestine - when you're confronted with antisemitism, please fight for us, too.

for the purposes of this poll, "i do shop there" means you have bought from one or both before and would buy from them again.

"sustainability" here means environmental sustainability, but it doesn't have to be the reason for your shopping decisions. there are obviously a lot of other issues in the supply chain at play, but this poll is only looking at these 2 dimensions: environmental opinions, and shopping habits.

you know what drives me truly insane. what really makes me so mad i lose my mind. is when i (👩) am talking to a guy (👨) and he is upset about not having a gf, and i get that. and he is totally convinced it's because he doesn't look like a buff action star. and no amount of telling him that he looks perfectly fine and that not all girls (or even, dare i say, most girls) actually want that will convince him. he simply tells me (👩) that i don't understand what girls (👩) are into (but he (👨) does).

and what drives me so fucking insane about it is the way some guys will really refuse to listen to women about ANYTHING. even about women. they are so used to implicitly believing that men know better that they would rather take the advice of guys who have no experience with women on how to be attractive to women, than to listen to a woman saying what women actually like.

and the kicker is, here is what women like: being treated with basic respect and seen as equals, as a bare fucking minimum. and that's the bar that trips up so many of these guys and leads them tumbling down into inceldom.

crazy to think some people online today have never experienced the days of google showing you exactly what you were looking for. like legitimately perfect search results. it's not a myth. it used to do that

i know she's not worth talking about at all but i think we really forget sometimes how insane it is that jk r*wling was previously the most universally beloved children's authors of her time. like, EVERYONE knew harry potter. some people didn't like it, or didn't like her, but it felt like every single person i knew had read the books and watched the movies and had a hogwarts house and it was just Everywhere. people 10 or 20 years older than me were reading the same books i was as excitedly and we were all talking about them.

(yes, they had problems, they always have had problems, but for the most part, any criticism of them didn't really affect her popularity.)

and it's just bananas to think that someone in that position - someone who had everything, who was so beloved (deservedly or otherwise), has developed brainworms to the extent that she has. it's EXTREMELY bizarre to think about a children's author devoting every single day to being passionately racist on their social media. not quietly racist - EVERY DAY. every day she wakes up, says "i'll call this woman of color a man", and then champions this as her "feminism". her name is basically synonymous with spending all day being hateful online.

my embarrassing confession is that i have been rotating dr. horrible's sing-along blog in my head since like 2010 and i both love it and hate it and i still can't figure out at all where i land on it

it's the fact that it can be interpreted in two completely opposite ways and i have felt both ways about it and everything in between since i first watched it. and i will never be able to decide what's intentional and what isn't. and i appreciate sitting with uncertainty but it really goes to show that uncertainty is enough to keep me chewing on something for a decade and a half, if that thing is "excellent commentary on proto-Nice Guys/Incels made by someone who is a hero to Nice Guys/Incels and who is known for much of the same bullshit that is associated with Nice Guys/Incels"
