Last night I met up with a group of other independent businesses for a drink. I haven’t been that sociable throughout my pregnancy due to all the freelance hours and almost cancelled (because who doesn’t love a cancelled plan and a 9am bedtime?😬) but I’m so glad I didn’t! I only knew @nikkistrangedesign + @oh_squirrel but got to meet a lot of new faces including @suede_and_co @birkimbags @puptartlondon @rosapietsch @hairyjayne @ninanou_studio. The evening sparked so many conversations ranging from work / life balance, plagiarism, time off, studios, maternity leave, legal fees, website orders, social media fatigue and more. I left feeling energised and inspired. It also reminded me of two projects announced earlier this week - first up the Directory of female-founded businesses being set up by @fequalshq (I’m a big fan of everything Danielle does and we’ve been in contact for almost two years now, despite never meeting 😂) and also @thefeconomy - a new idea set up by @pipjolley (thanks @emmajanepalin for sharing) about how we can support businesses who are more ethical, sustainable and happen to be run by women. I can’t wait to see where both ideas progress to.
