A Metal Cardbot headcanon/theory post from your truely

This has been in my head for a hot minute now and I wanna see others opinions on this and see if they agree,,,

When we saw Flamenova transform for the first time, it really bugged me that he was the only bot to have a combining mode for his bot mode,,, ITS HELLA COOL DONT GET ME WRONG although there was no real explaination for why he was the only bot like this,,,

The more I thought about it the more I thought about the only other multi-vehicle combiner we’ve seen: Blue Cop Trinity. That then lead me to think about how both BCT and FN are star guardians. Not only that FN was BC’s superior before he was stripped of the title. Thinking about it, I came to the conclusion,,

What if Star Guardians, once they reach a certain rank, gain a more powerful form as a multi-vehicle combiner?

The metal brace (its metal brace not BREATH for the love of all things deus machina) is described to have the hidden power of Deus Machina and knowing the role Star Guardians played for her, would it be too far fetched to think she’d gift high ranking and trusted Star Guardians with more power? Blue Cop Trinity is insanely powerful as we’ve seen several times in season 2 so it’d absolutely an upgrade. And Flamenova absolutely clapped Skygallop and we know SG is strong,, my poor boy Cielo got his ass beat by whimsical gender debating horse plane. Flamenova lightwork no reaction-ed SkyGallop like 😭🙏

Anyone else think this is plausible? Deadass I’ve never felt so strongly about a headcanon/theory before cuz i could see this being fr (season 3 pls pls PLS have more on Deus Machina i needddd LORE)

Note: I headcanon Deus Machina using she/her primarily as she’s described as the “mother” computer and all cardbots thus far are male so I think it’s a fun contrast personally. Also because of how the Korean language is, she’s never actually referred by any pronouns (which is also why theres a ton of confusion on gender in the fandom since Korean will usually refer to others as “you” “that person” or avoid it completely)

Like for Bumi ii/Tarrlok in which Tarrlok and Noatok survived the crash and Tarrlok tries to live under a new guise despite what had happened only for Bumi ii to come swooping into his life. Or like for Bumi ii/Zhao, Bumi ii being the one to just drag Zhao’s sorry lame ass outta that fog and helping to reintegrate him into the new world that had long since moved on from the war.

First of all, my sincerest apologies for answering late. I have no excuses.

And now, onto the ask. I'll be honest I do not think Bumi would have any sympathy towards Zhao to help him move on and get better.

Bumi understands that Zhao grew up in an era of propaganda and war, but knowing that there existed people like Piandao and Iroh, who despite being FN understood the harm it had done on their own; and knowing that Zhao had been to Wan Shi Tong and had the opportunity to knowing the truth, Bumi would... simply not like him, in the mildest terms possible. Them being romantic is a bit far-fetched as well.

But! That's just my opinion, and considering how Zhao's only real purpose was to have an actual evil guy to set up Zuko's redemption arc early, a good writer could definitely careen me into a more complex Zhao dating Bumi.

And Bumi and Tarrlok ughhhh where do I even start. I just recently published a modern au smutfic of them too. I actually had a fic in mind that I probably will never write, I do have a tentative starting to that fic online too.

Bumi x Tarrlok makes me insane in ways I cannot explain properly. They're both so oddly similar... Both geniuses in their fields (Tarrlok can bloodbend without the full moon, Bumi is a non-bending commander in a world that shows time and time again how undervalued non-benders are), both of them ignored for the other sibling, both with an increasingly complex relationship with their father and brother, and both of them clearly have mental issues.

I like to imagine them as people who could have maybeeee had a better life had they not fallen in love with each other, but they'd rather have a worse shot at life together than a better shot at it alone.

Being with Bumi brings Tarrlok closer to the people he hurt and to his memories of bloodbending, and to Republic City; being with Tarrlok brings Bumi closer to the man who bloodbent his brother, had a hand in the curfew thingie of S1, and is just... fundamentally a man I think Bumi would be uncomfortable with, if it wasn't Tarrlok after everything bad been taken away from him.

(Also on a completely unrelated note please tell me you agree that Tarrlok has something going with uniforms and shit, like I need this man to be a whore for this guy who's a solid twenty years older AT LEAST and was in the army and is buffer and taller than him)

Some of the recent noise swings have been appearing again this week, but luckily less often than before. There were a few actual regressions, but most of them were localized to a single stress test. On the other hand, there were a few very nice wins across the board, especially for check and incremental builds, primarily thanks to #118824 and #119265.

Mark stood at the stage and looked at you with a grin and whispered in your ear “I thought you did not know me, it turns out you actually really did want to throw yourself to me” you were shocked by his word and so you just ran away. Chapter 78: The End of a War

You walked back into the meeting, without your faithful guard dog. “Now where will we be sending everyone off to,” you ask your newly appointed Chancellor Hux.

“We have some reason to believe there is a Resistance base in the Outer Rim, on this end of the galaxy somewhere in K-5/6 and L-5/6 sectors. We will be sending heavy reinforcements to that region.” Hux seemed to be confident in the intelligence that you were given.

You considered the tactile plan, “I see and what do we think we will be met with?” You weren’t a military mind, but you needed to be sure that they knew what they were doing, they had failed before and failure wasn’t an option now.

Another First Order general spoke up, “Not much, we have already crippled much of their army, with the destruction of their last base and the several New Republic planets. Mostly this will be to finish them off and to now establish authority across the galaxy.” That’s exactly what you wanted to hear, taking control of the galaxy. Soon it would all be yours.

“So are a portion of the troops going to do that? While others face off in battle?” You knew sending all your fleet to one area would not be a wise decision. The Empire had chosen to do something similar in the past, and you weren’t going to be so stupid.

“Yes, I believe that is the best tactic. You have a phrase from your home planet saying ‘not to put all of your eggs in one basket’ and so by making sure we have a proper disbursement of ships across the galaxy we will maintain our authority.” Hux was an expert at trying to bring things to your understanding. He knew you had little background in any of this, and that you trusted him to make the right decisions. It is why he earned his promotion.

You nodded to him, “Good, Lord Ren will join the forces heading to the base, he has an important mission from me, one that he should not be distracted from.” You needed your husband to complete his mission, but more importantly, you needed him to come back in one piece. You wanted there to be no one in his way.

Hux seemed to understand this. “Of course, Empress. We will make sure he sees his task through without any obstacles.”

You left the meeting, Kylo was off fighting for you on some planet someplace in the galaxy. Hux had told you where but you really didn’t care. All you needed to know was that he was ok and that he was taking care of what you sent him for. It had been three days before you heard they were back. You had been doing various things, making sure the Final Order and First Order’s union was going smoothly. One of your staff came and told you that Kylo had requested in some of the interrogation rooms.

Walking down the hall with Ap’lek and Vicrul by your side, you saw officers and 'troopers dodging out of the way. All of them giving you proper salutes and acknowledgments to you as Empress. You made your way down to the interrogation rooms, pausing in front of the doors of the large one.  Entering you saw an interesting sight, four people chained to the floor, the other Knights of Ren along the back wall, Kylo pacing in front of the prisoners, and Hux and Phasma talking in an opposite corner. It looked like a real party. Vicrul and Ap’lek joined their brothers in arms along the back wall. Doing the usual silent communication thing they did.

You looked at Hux and then Kylo before saying, “What do we have here?” You then looked at the four prisoners, who looked pretty worse for wear.

Hux spoke first, you could tell Kylo was still in beast mode as his Force energy wrapped around you protectively. “These are the last known leaders of the Resistance, unfortunately, we lost a few in battle at no fault to anyone.” The man on the left seemed the most rabid of them all, sneering at Hux.

“Why don’t you tell me who our guests are?” You kept your tone rather light, knowing what was to inevitably come.

The man on the left spat up at Hux, who was closest to him. “Guests? So that’s who we are now?” You could hear the venom dripping from his voice.

Hux looked rather unimpressed at the man who was chained down by his feet. “Poe Dameron General of the Resistance, notorious pilot who has killed millions in this war. He is responsible for blowing up Star Killer Base.” The brunette man glared at him before looking at you, you could see Kylo’s body shift towards him as a sign that he should watch his actions.

You point to the next chained prisoner.

“And him?” He seemed much bulkier than the pilot next to him.

“FN-2187,” responded Phasma first.

“My name is Finn,” spat the man.

Hux continued with his debriefing, “FN-2187 is a General of the Resistance. A defective stormtrooper traitor who has killed his own brothers and sisters in battle. He is partially responsible for the destruction of Star Killer Base.”

“And her?” You pointed to the next prisoner.

“Rose Tico, chief engineer of the Resistance. She and her family fought against the First Order when we annexed her homeworld, and she was crucial to the evacuation of the old resistance base.” Hux seemed rather displeased in particular with her.

“And what about them?” You pointed to the last prisoner.

“Noor Abdallah, a chief information officer of the Resistance. They have foiled many of our attacks by intercepting communications between ships, they helped with the destruction of Star Killer Base.” So this was Carter’s match? A Resistance fight, someone Carter had been dreaming about for years. Someone who now seemed to waste their life before they ever got a chance to meet their other half.

You stepped back for a moment watching your husband pace in front of them. They seemed to regard him as a higher status than you. Something he was not.

FN-2187 pleaded to him, “Rey wouldn’t have wanted this.” Rose seemed to agree.

“You think I cared for the Scavenger? I killed her.” So they thought she could be a bargaining chip to reason with the beast? She held no candle to you, you were the Empress, and she was a dead sand rat. You were his match, and she was nothing.

Poe now seemed to reason with him,  “Leia wouldn’t have wanted you to do this.”

“And what do you know of my mother? She sacrificed herself to save me and her. You know nothing.” Bringing up his mother was a terrible decision on his part. What good did this pilot think he was doing? Did he really think he knew his mother better than he did? Ignorant and cocky is a dead man’s wish.

You were sick and tired of the prisoners ignoring your presence. “So these are some of the people who have outsmarted the First Order for so long?”

Hux responded in kind, “Dameron’s a damn good pilot and FN-2187 was trained as one of our own and was once very promising.” It was noted to you that he did not speak of the others at this point, you wonder just how many squabbles the two men had won against the First Order before you arrived.

You kept your voice aloof, “I see. It’s a shame they choose the wrong outcome in life don’t you think? Working for the Resistance, harboring chaos, defying me? What do you think my love?”

This caught Kylo’s attention, you could see he was shaking with anticipation and power. He wanted blood and now you would let him have it.

“Kill the pilot, the traitor, and the girl. As for Noor, send them to reconditioning, and then to Earth, there is someone there that doesn’t deserve to lose them just yet. Maybe they will reconsider unwise life decisions from now on.” You saved their life for your former friend Carter. You weren’t all heartless, but you knew whoever sided with the Resistance would still call you that. When your back was turned to head out of the room, you heard the crackle of Kylo’s lightsaber and the sound of bodies hitting the floor, you didn’t stick around to see the aftermath, rather you chose to go back to your quarters to prepare the treat you had promised him.

When you arrived you headed immediately to the bedroom where you pulled it out of a closet and laid it on the bed. While he was away, you had asked Vicrul and Ap’lek to fetch it from wherever he had chosen to hide it. It wasn’t a toy for you, but for him. Something to tame the beast for a short time. Something clad in tight black leather that the knights seemed to be fond of. The plan was to release the poisonous gas again and hide. Rey and Finn quickly ducked under a grate with BB-9 while BB-8 insisted on being with you, hiding in the cockpit with a blaster held up at the ready. A familiar voice began to fill the corridor, followed by a guttural sound. You shifted your position to see two figures lift the grate where your two companions were.

“Wait,” you said, stepping out from hiding, BB-8 following close behind.

“I told you to stop calling me that. You with these guys?” Han asked, waving a blaster at them.

“Yeah, they helped me fly the ship,” you said, helping them out. BB-9 used a magnetic arm to help hoist themselves up. “In fact, Rey was the one flying.”

“You?” Han asked Rey, who nodded, “Where’d you get this ship?”

“Niima Outpost,” she said.

Han raised an eyebrow. “Jakku? The junkyard?”

“Junkyard! Thank you!” Finn said pointedly.

“Anyways!” you said, trying to get to the point.

“Told you we should have checked the Western Reaches,” Han said to Chewbacca before turning back to Rey, “Who had it? Ducain?”

“Guys,” you pleaded, giving Chewie a pleading look. He patted your head, having missed you.

“I stole it from Unkar Plutt. Who stole it from the Irving Boys. Who stole it from Ducain,” Rey said.

“Who stole it from me!” Han said, clearly upset. “Well, you tell him that Han Solo just stole back the Millenium Falcon for good.”

Rey’s jaw dropped as Han made his way over to the cockpit. “This is the Millenium Falcon? You’re Han Solo?” You sighed, rubbing your temples.

“Isn’t he a war hero?” Finn asked Chewie who shrugged.

You followed Han and watched as he looked around with a small smile on his face. How long has it been since he’s seen this ship? You hated to break the nostalgia, but there was no time.

“Han, we need to get back to the Resistance. BB-9 has the map,” you said, walking up to him. He shook his head. “The map to Luke Skywalker.”

Han looked up from the console at the mention of his old friend’s name and frowned. “Is that why you’re out here, kid?”

“Yes, and we need your help. Please, Han.”

He sighed, having avoided going back there for years. His eyes landed on the ring hanging around your neck and tilted his head towards it. “Who’s the poor person that met your high standards?” he said with a smirk.

You rolled your eyes. “Would you be surprised if I said he’s a pilot?”

“Of course he is. Does Leia know? Do I know who it is?”

“Um…” A metallic crash sounded down the corridor.

“Don’t tell me a Rathtar has gotten loose,” Han said, hurrying out of the cockpit.

You blinked at the spot he was just standing in. “What? Rathtar? Why is everyone in this ship a disastrous wreck?” And suddenly you missed the peaceful bliss of that planet, with you, Poe, and your little droids.

Poe took in a deep breath once they landed on Yavin Four where a small group of Resistance members were stationed. Ohn Gos had given him a small bag of basic supplies for the road and wished him luck. Poe thanked him and made his way over to the village cautiously. This will be the first time he would encounter Resistance members after defecting, if they’d believe that he had.

Being surrounded by the tropical greenery were bringing back memories. He remembered the force-tree that his parents planted outside of the house. He remembered flying with his mother in her ship and learning how to fly. He remembered when she passed. He remembered when his father went to work and never came back, then the news of him being caught up in an attack. Then his grandfather got sick. When Poe joined the fleet, he received the news that he also had passed. There was no one left but his fleet squadron with him.

Then the First Order got them, too.

“You better hold it right there,” a voice calls out.

Poe stops in his tracks and slowly raises his hands up. Three figures emerged from every side, surrounding him with blasters. One man stepped up, wearing an orange and white uniform, the symbol of the Resistance on his vest.

“What’s a First Order officer doing out here by himself?” he asked.

Poe sighed. “Look, pal, I’ve left the First Order, alright?”

The man scoffed. “Just like that, huh?”

“Well, it’s not as easy as it looks,” Poe said, taking a step forward. They all shifted in their stance, raising their blasters again. “Let’s just say that I finally found something worth fighting for and I’m looking for them right now. Your Commander (Y/n) (Y/l/n).”

Their eyes narrowed. “You took our commander,” the man said.

“I helped (Y/n) escape, but we got separated leaving the Finalizer. I know how to find her, but I need a ship.”

A woman walked up to them and whispered, “We need to notify the general about this.”

The man nodded to her, then turned back to Poe. “How can we take your word for it?”

“I’m outnumbered, aren’t I? You can take me as a prisoner if you want. If my sources are correct, your commander managed to find BB-9 again who has the map everyone’s looking for.”

“So we take you with us to find them, then you’ll know of the map’s location, too.”

Poe sighed, losing patience. “You wanna cuff me? Search for any trackers on me? Do it.” He stuck his hands out in front of him and placed his wrists together.

“Come on, Snap,” the woman said.

The man grimaced, but lowered his weapon, signaling for the others to do the same. He pointed at one of them to search Poe before turning away. He paused for a second, before turning his head. Poe waited expectantly as the person searched his person.

“That ring… they think no one’s seen it, but I managed to get a glimpse of it. I don’t think they got it before that mission. They kept saying that they weren't alone, but we all assumed they were talking about BB. Now that I think about it, you were the last one to see them that time. It’s far fetched, but…”

“Let’s talk once we start looking for them,” Poe said as he was pushed forward.

“He’s cleared,” one of them said.

“Thanks, L’ulo. Come, Dameron. We’ll wrap things up here and head back to base,” Snap said.

This was not how he thought his plan would go. He thought that he would be able to get the Tie-Fighters distracted long enough for you and FN-2187 to escape before he could join you and then follow you to wherever your mission took you next. He never thought that he would be arriving at the Resistance base without you. Certainly, not in a U-Wing surrounded by your squadron’s watchful gaze.

He kept his chin up, focusing on planning his next move. If he was allowed access to any of their ships, he could continue to track BB-8, then find you. Or maybe they would take the tracker off of him and search for you themselves. He needed to prepare for all those possibilities. While the Resistance is no longer an enemy, they’re not his friends, either.

“We’re here,” the woman, who introduced herself as Jessica, said.

She answered a commlink and identified the ship before lowering the U-Wing onto the runway. The other members of the squadron prepared for landing, gathering their belongings before standing up. Poe stood as well and waited until the ramp lowered.

“Stick close to us,” Snap said, grabbing his things before moving next to Poe.

“Where are you taking me?” Poe asked.

“To see General Leia.”

Turns out the house belongs to Hank, who shares it with his adult son and three scavengers, one of whom has a little son. Together the group is able to keep their home functional and afford some nice things now and then.

Theirs isn't a life at the brink of starvation, not yet anyway. One bad haul won't put them at risk of losing everything, but a bad haul in combination with a First Order raid, a curfew or a blockade of the planet? That's a different cup of caf and so Hux and his crew aren't exactly welcomed by this family.

The visitors win their hosts over when Captain FN-11 returns to the shutle to fetch some self-heating food packs. Even those atrocious field rations are an improvement over the "portions" that serve as everyday food and currency on most of Jakku.

FN-11 has distributed meals (and weapons) to the poor before, to incite the commoners of a neutral world to rise up against their nobles. Grateful, the new government had immediately agreed to grant the First Order all kinds of privileges, practically making them into colonial rulers. FN-11 had then left that planet, under the impression that the inhabitants' lives had improved.

Handing the food packages over to this family on his homeworld should feel insignificant to a good deed on a planetary scale that had also served the First Order. Only in reality it doesn't. FN-11 finds himself much prouder today than he had felt back then. The Captain wonders whether he should worry now...

Hux notices the host perform a practised looking gesture, but before he can wonder what it means, he already feels compelled to open up to Hank and every doubt about the man's intentions dissolve.

Hank: "What are your exact plans on Jakku, General Hux?"

Hux: "Win the AT-AT race to humiliate Kylo Ren and ride on the reputation surge to proclaim myself Supreme Leader. I will then offer the rebel trio to join me. Sell them to the Spilph mining company if they decline."

Hank: "What if you lose?"

Hux: "Humanely put down Tico and FN-2187. Jury's still out on Dameron - you wouldn't have a Sarlacc or similar here to take care of him? Although in this scenario I'll have to play nice with Ren for a while longer, so gifting Dameron to him might be helpful."

Hank: "Ah. I see. Forget I asked."

The last sentence is accompanied by a second gesture and a sharp sting in his head later Hux cannot recall anymore what they had talked about. It probably wasn't important.

Rust Compiler Performance Triage

This was a fairly negative week for compiler performance, with regressions overall up to 14% on some workloads (primarily incr-unchanged scenarios), largely caused by #101620. We are still chasing down either a revert or a fix for that regression, though a partial mitigation in #101862 has been applied. Hopefully the full fix or revert will be part of the next triage report.

We also saw a number of other regressions land, though most were much smaller in magnitude.
