Opera Omnia Burst Themes 2/?
With Opera Omnia shutting down, I decided to make a few posts about one of my favorite parts of the game: The Burst Weapons. Not because they were a powerful, much sought after weapon tier that gave big numbers with massive benefits, but because I have a love for Final Fantasy music, and what BTs I wanted was strongly dependent on what song would play when used.
These posts are meant to be more for the sake of archiving what there had been more than anything else, but at the very least I am going to list a large number of great FF songs.
The first listings will be the songs that we had gotten during the game's lifetime.
Final Fantasy XI Shantotto: Iron Colossus Prishe: A Realm of Emptiness Arciela V Aloulin: Arciela's Theme Iroha: Dance of the Tengu Selh'teus: Dusk and Dawn Kam'lanaut: Tough Battle #2 Eald'narche: Belief
Final Fantasy XII Vaan: Flash of Steel Penelo: Penelo's Theme Balthier: Giving Chase Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca: Boss Battle Reks: Boss Battle (Zodiac Age) Vayne Curudas Solidor: The Battle for Freedom Gabranth: Life and Death
Final Fantasy XIII Lightning: Blinded by Light Hope Estheim: Hope's Theme Snow Villiers: Savior of Souls Cid Raines: Desperate Struggle Jihl Nabaat: Test of L'cie Serah Farron: Paradigm Shift Noel Kriess: The Last Hunter Caius Ballad: The Unseen Abyss
Final Fantasy XIV Y'shtola Rhul: Ominous Prognosticks Yda Hext: Defender of the Realm Papalymo Totolymo: Another Brick
Final Fantasy XV Noctis Lucis Caelum: APOCALYPSIS NOCTIS Ignis Scientia: Omnis Lacrima Gladiolus Amicitia: Clash on the Big Bridge (Episode Gladiolus) Lunafreya Nox Fleuret: Advent of the Apocalypse Cor Leonis: The Trials of the Shield Iris Amicitia: Up for the Challenge Ardyn Izunia: Magna Insomnia Aranea Highwind: Invidia

It’s definitely a retcon but it doesn’t change any of the information we already knew. In BBS we can see Lea and Isa trying to sneak into the laboratory for unknown reasons, and it’s of course assumed that’s how they ended up joining the organization by proximity
In KH3 we learn more, in how they were trying to visit Subject X and got jobs working for Ansem The Wise to keep in touch with her. It also makes sense that this wasn’t discussed in 358/2 Days since that game was about the tragedy of Roxas and Xion, and not about Axel and Saix’s very specific backstory
Plus it’s obvious that future games want to reconnect to the Age of Fairytales by reintroducing those characters (Ephemer’s cameo in KH3, Brain in Missing Link, Strelitzia in KH4, etc.) and so it makes sense that Subject X would either be Skuld or Ava
Skuld is the most popular option since her arrival in Radiant Garden would align well with Lauriam, Elrena, and Ventus’s arrivals at similar points in the timeline (it’s heavily implied all their lifeboats docked at the same period of time, roughly 1 or 2 years before Sora’s birth). She also matches Subject X’s known descriptions of “black hair” and “only remembers 5 friends and a key”
However, Nomura’s previous claim that the reason Xehanort’s mother looks a lot like Skuld is because of a “bloodlines” connection, implying her lifeboat docked in Scala Ad Caelum and she grew up to be one of his ancestors (the lifeboat would therefore align with Brain’s arrival rather than Ventus’s, but Brain never took a lifeboat himself)
The other leading theory of Ava is more complicated as we do not know what she looks like under her mask, but she would also have memories of “5 friends and a key.” However, this theory compares Ava to a character named Deuce from the game Final Fantasy Type-0, and she has black hair. If this theory is correct (and that all the Foretellers are based on Type-0 characters), then she very well could be Subject X
This isn’t the first time that Kingdom Hearts’s original cast has been based on Final Fantasy characters, not including those pulled directly from FF games. Hayner, Pence, Olette, and Yozora are based on certain FF characters, too, though I couldn’t tell you which ones since I’ve only played the 7 Remake (not even Rebirth smh). My point stands that Ava being Subject X is still a likely possibility, especially since she is missing from the final cutscene of KH3 and Luxu seems to know everything about it
So while the topic of Subject X did kind of come out of nowhere, it has a lot of potential as a plot point
While I absolutely love kh3 and will defend the whole series to the death, it still kind of bothers me that Subject X just suddenly became a major thing in kh3 despite like literally no prior mention of her. Like all of a sudden it's just "oh yeah Lea and Isa had another friend and no one know who she is or where she came from but she's super important and also everyone is interested in finding her :)" Like it just comes out of nowhere and it bugs me a little. Unless I'm forgetting something or there's something in the Secret Reports or something that mentions her before?

From an interview with Tabata, Nomura, and Kitase in the Final Fantasy Type-0 Ultimania, p.839...
Were you the one who came up with the characters' names this time, Nomura-san?
Nomura: Chiba (the lead scenario writer) was the one who came up with Machina and Rem's names, but I was the one who came up with the names for the rest of Class Zero. I wanted to make them sound like codenames, and when I was looking for a cohesive set of 13, I came upon the names of playing cards. Because "Joker" sounded so enigmatic to me, I thought "This'll be good." I had already drawn the illustrations of the characters, so I applied the names of the cards while looking at each of their faces.
Tabata: The names of King and Nine really fit their image perfectly.
Did you come up with their weapons while you were drawing the first group illustration?
Nomura: That's right.
Tabata: About half of them were strange things at Nomura's request. Typically, you wouldn't think of choosing things like a flute and cards as weapons, right? (laughs)
Nomura: I caused the staff a lot of problems. They were like, "So... How do you fight with this?" I thought of it as an extension of "BC -FFVII-" where each character's weapon displayed their individuality, so I was just concerned about creating too much overlap.
Tabata: I thought "He's going to come up with something really interesting", but the staff on hand weren't familiar with Nomura's personality, so they took everything very seriously and were like, "She plays the flute? Really?"
Nomura: I was very relieved by the fact that Deuce's fighting style makes an impression. I was surprised when I first saw her in motion.
Tabata: Your strange requests became the important hurdle that helped us avoid making the content too conventional.
Outside of Class Zero, Emina is a character who made a strong impression.
Tabata: It was actually Kitase who was in charge of Emina's event.
Kitase: No, it was actually an idea the female staff members came up with, and then I just set up the camerawork. The staff who were involved had their hands full with other work, so they asked for my help. It seems the camera control was complicated in that scene, so it came around to me because I was used to it...
Tabata: The idea behind Emina's event was to "provide content that meets a wide range of tastes." (laughs) We wanted to give players a variety of camera angles so they could choose the one they liked most, but Kitase's first camera was particular to his own specific interests (laughs), so it had to be reworked.
Emina and Kazusa are connected, aren't they?
Tabata: Yes. I didn't say anything about Kazusa and let a few female staff members do what they wanted with him. I just told them to make sure that the content would "stick with players." Because of that, I feel like Emina and Kazusa became sub-characters who stayed in players' hearts.
Even the moogles were memorable this time.
Tabata: They’re cute, aren’t they? To tell you the truth, I actually prepared a scene to introduce the group of moogles known as the Cranberry Knights, but Chiba forgot to put it into the game, so now it's just a memory.
Nomura: That's a shame. As soon as I saw the moogles' designs, I even said, "We should make merch of them right away." (laughs) At the moment, I'm thinking about designing moogles for “FF Versus XIII” that are similar to the ones from “FF Type-0.”
Tabata: I was shocked when I found out that Moglin's official name is a long, foreign name. I heard that it was Nomura's idea, but...
Nomura: The scenario staff were the ones who came up with it. I was also surprised when I heard it for the first time during voice recording. If you look at “Kingdom Hearts” where I've chosen all the names myself, you can tell that I have a preference for simpler names. (laughs)

Type 0 Playable characters tier list
I love this game LMAO so enjoy my tier list that I spent too much time on.
So this isn’t me ranking the characters on how much I like them or how interesting they are, I’m ranking them based on how much I *personally* like playing as them.
Tumblr media
Queen: so versatile! Her magic is great, her unique abilities are so useful, and her strength isn’t the highest, but she can still dispatch most mobs with a few good hits !
Cinque: fight me, but Cinque is SO awesome to play as! Her swings are slow and you can’t cancel out of them, but once you’re used to the gameplay and are able to get the timing down for hitting with her, Cinque is an absolute powerhouse. Her strength stat is very high, and when you need to hit really fast, she’s decent with magic.
Ace: Ace is pretty good, he doesn’t hit super hard, but his Cut Cards ability is super useful and fun to use. His dodge move is one of the best in terms of invincibility window, and his wall spell makes him a very good defensive character to use if you’re feeling cautious!
Deuce: fight me again, haha! I love Deuce, and not just because I majored in flute performance haha. Like Ace, Deuce is a good defensive character, especially with her Hymn of Healing ability. Her default attack can be buffed up pretty well, and the fact that she doesn’t have to get close to the action is good for ranged attackers. She also has terrific magic, especially fire.
Sice: sometimes I have trouble with her reach and landing killsights, but her strength is good, and her special abilities are unique and fun. Also, I love the whole scythe aesthetic haha.
Rem: Rem has awesome magic stats, and she has one of the best abilities in the game- Undying Wish! Undying Wish grants your whole party re-raise for around fifteen seconds, which is so good in a game where Phoenix downs are rare and a pain to use.
Cater: I love her ranged attacks and how fast you can fire her pistol! Her dodge is kinda scary to use, it doesn’t feel super effective, but when you need a speedy character with great ranged attacks, Cater is awesome. I do feel like Cater is very easily killed though, her defense is on the low side
Seven: her attacks are kind of hard to time, similar to Cinque, but unlike Cinque her strength isn’t off the charts. However, she’s a fast runner and is highly maneuverable! She also has very good elemental attacks you can unlock.
King: while King doesn’t move very fast, he *can* move while firing, which isn’t something that other ranged characters, like Cater, Ace, and Trey, can do. His twin revolvers also hit pretty hard, and he’ll save your ass during the dragon boss fight during the battle of Judecca mission.
Trey: his ranged attacks are far reaching, though they don’t hit hard. I DID defeat that crazy hard Brionac boss with Trey, but for some reason he tends to die a lot while I’m level grinding.
Nine: For me, Nine doesn’t really hit that hard, and I just have trouble controlling spear characters in general. I do really like his Jump ability though.
Machina: bruh I have barely played as Machina, probably bc he’s always jumping ship, but in general, sword characters are pretty okay to control. Sorry Machina, I don’t like you enough to buy you updated weapons or give you accessories, so I don’t know how strong your attacks actually are.
Eight: unfortunately, characters with ranged attacks or at least far reach really have a leg up in this game. Eight is okay with regular mobs, but in missions his small reach just doesn’t cut it for me. He’s a solid party member though.
Jack: like Cinque, Jack isn’t beginner friendly. However, unlike Cinque, Jack doesn’t have a great range of movement. Cinque swings slowly, but she can dodge roll or run up close to her targets so she won’t miss. Jack moves incredibly slowly, and is hard to control. There’s probably a way to use him really well, but for me he’s borderline useless.
Next I want to do a tier list for actually how much I like the characters in terms of story, haha!

The end of this game was actually kind of completely frustrating, but okay... Didn’t know I was going to have to defeat enemies with only magic while I’m on a ledge and can’t reach them and only have BOM magic equipped...
The actual final battle is fixed so that it doesn’t matter if you’re level 1 or level 99. You damage him a certain amount with each character, one at a time until you cycle through them all. Even if your character just stands there, they can’t die until the guy is ready to kill them, and once he is ready to kill them, they can’t live even if you’re level one million and an expert dodger.  With some of the non-ranged ones I even did just stand there doing nothing for a minute while I tried to figure out how the hell to reach an enemy that was twenty feet in the air with my mace or sword...
The game forced me to win and lose at the same time. I didn’t really need to even try... and if I did really really try, it wouldn’t have mattered... Just... It’s a strange way to do a final battle.
Machina treated us like shit the whole time. Rem was one of the eight characters I actually leveled up pretty good and I couldn’t even use her. I read something about a possible alternate ending if you play the whole game again... but god damn... I don’t know...
Anyway... the journey was fun. The destination wasn’t.
I just want to know if my poor chocobos survived this whole ordeal.
