With the Dawn
~1155 words. Tidus/Yuna. Post-FFX. Yuna POV. Grief/Mourning, Angst, Romance, Coping with Loss.
Summary: Yuna reflects on how Tidus has impacted her life. Though she misses him terribly, her memories of him give her the strength to move forward one day, one hour, one moment at a time.
Tumblr media
Yuna can’t go anywhere that doesn’t remind her of him. They went everywhere around Spira together. Kilika, Luca, the Mi’ihen Highroad, Djose, Moonflow, Guadosalam, the Thunder Plains, the Macalania Woods, Bevelle. The Calm Lands, Mt. Gagazet, Zanarkand, they saw it all together. Places that once brought her comfort and happy memories now reopen the wounds of grief. Not even her beloved Besaid is safe. His face and voice are everywhere and yet nowhere. He’s gone from this world, and his absence hangs over everything like a giant canopy cloaking the sun.
Fittingly for a day like today, the sky is overcast as she walks along, casting a pall on this beautiful tropical paradise like his loss casts a shadow over her life. She knew him for only a small portion of it, and yet, he had such an impact on her that his influence is undeniable. The two of them spent their short time together better than most people spend decades together. That was just how Tidus was. Always making the most of every moment. Always living life to the fullest. He showed her there was another way to live, another way to love. That if she was going to sacrifice herself, it had better be for something she believed in with all her heart.
She can no longer believe in Yu Yevon anymore. That is perhaps Tidus’s greatest gift to her: truth and freedom from an oppressive belief system that held her and so many other people captive. Being called a heretic and an apostate is oddly freeing once you’ve found the truth. Like a badge she wears proudly because she cared enough to keep searching for answers.
If only she could search for him. But how do you search for someone who is not dead because he was never really alive? Tidus only existed because of the Dream of the Fayth. His life was never like hers. And yet he was the realest person she’s ever met.
She stares at Besaid Falls, the churning white water ever crashing against the rock. This place has been here since she first set foot on Besaid, and it’s tempting to think it always will be. And yet she knows that even this is temporary, that someday these falls will be no more. That is the only guarantee in this life, that someday everything will end. Best to appreciate the good things while they last.
She wanted to have so much more time with him. Imagine what they could’ve done with even a few more days, a few more hours, a few more minutes. But she recognizes some people are meant to be in her life for only a season. The spray from the falls mixes with the tears on her face as she thinks about what a wonderful season it was. Tidus taught her so much. And she knows he would say the same about her—that she helped him appreciate the value of love and sacrifice. Of having a purpose you believe in with all your heart. She’s glad he was able to reconcile with his father too. Sir Jecht certainly had his flaws, but he truly loved his son.
She wipes her eyes and turns away from the falls. Life is far too short and far too precious to hold grudges. It’s best spent loving the people you hold dear and letting them know how much they mean to you while you still can. Making treasured memories that will last until your own time runs out. Death always comes in the end, sometimes when you least expect it. All the Sendings she’s performed, all too often for those far too young, are proof enough of that.
Her mother, her father, and now Tidus. Her life is a series of one loss after the other. But for the sake of the people who remain, she must carry on. To honor the memory of the people she loves and has lost, she must live the rest of her life to the fullest. Must make the most of the remaining time she has and help Spira rebuild.
She walks along the well-worn path. Some moments she desperately wishes she could be reunited with her parents and Tidus again now, even if it means the end of her own life. But then she thinks about how they all want her to live. It would not honor them to end her own life prematurely, especially when her living loved ones need her. She still has work to do in this life. Then, when her time comes and she is reunited with her deceased loved ones in the Farplane at long last, she can do so with the knowledge she has made them proud and has lived her life well. She wants to leave a legacy as impactful as their legacies.
She is on the beach now where Tidus initially appeared, where he first erupted into her life and left a wave of bliss in his wake. The water laps at the hem of her dress and the wet sand rubs against her feet as the sunset streaks the sky with a symphony of colors. She is alive, and every sense celebrates this fact. Out of habit she performs his whistle, flooding the air with the familiar sound. Not so much to try to summon him as to let him know she’s thinking of him. That she remembers him. A promise that he is on her heart and mind until the day she dies.
That’s all anyone really wants, isn’t it? To be remembered even after they’re gone. For their loved ones to treasure the memories of their precious time together in their hearts. That matters far more than fame and riches.
Yuna clasps her hands and clears her throat, then recounts one of her favorite memories of Tidus, the moment he smiled at her after their first kiss. It’s a little moment in a sea of big ones, but it means so much to her. The tears come and she doesn’t try to restrain them this time. They’re precious reminders of her love for him and soon join the swell of the ocean to carry her grief far away. She’s honest about how much she misses him and how much she wants to see him again. All the specific ways his loss is felt in her heart and her life.
Her only answer is the steady tide lapping against the shore. No one can hear her, no one visible anyway, and yet she feels calmer afterwards. At peace.
She sighs deeply. The sun has set and a cool evening breeze has picked up. The moon casts its gentle warm glow on the sea, and the stars are twinkling in the heavens above. She’s made it through another day without him. Night has come, and this too shall pass.
This will all pass in the end, and hope will come with the dawn.

A/N: FFX holds a very dear place in my heart, as it was the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. I have fond memories from enjoying it with one of my closest friends, and then later sharing it with a family member. During difficult times in my life, it's been a comfort to return to, so it was very cathartic to write this story and explore Yuna's thoughts and feelings post-FFX.
Thank you for reading!

Parallels between Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy X: in that Jill and Yuna both had shitty fates because of the systems of the worlds that they live in--and would have died because of them (and both girls are willing to go on journeys to change the status-quo, even at the cost of their own lives)--but at the end of the games, it's the guys who die instead. But not, like, completely in a "I want to die instead of you or bear your burden" kind of way. But because they find new ways to completely break the systems and change the worlds for the better, but the cost is Clive and Tidus have to die for it, as no good deed goes unpunished.

Okay I did not expect that many 😵
And so many read hot af that I don't know where to start!!
Number 11 + 17 + 18 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) + 5 😋
💜
My Lucy! You know, I didn't expect that many either...it wasn't until I sat down and started going through them that I realized it, I could have sworn it was only at like 25 last time I checked 😂
Okay, so...this is going to be a long one and so all the good stuff is below the cut! I'm going to include the graphics I've made for some of these as well 💜 5. Bounce/JHS 11. FF10: Dare Me To Eat You 17. PULSE/Maknaevamp 18. On Blades of Amethyst & Echoes
ALSO, please be aware there ARE spoilers below as well, esp for FF10: Dare Me To Eat You.
5. Bounce/JHS
Tumblr media
This is part of my Heartbeat Melodies series (where I am writing 1 fic based on a song for each BTS member. So far, I've gotten Jin's and Yoongi's done and posted).
The song for this fic is Bounce by Timbaland. StreetDancer!Hoseok x StreetDancer!f.Reader Rivals to Lovers, Street Dance Competition
In the underground dance scene, it's all about the crew you move with; body, mind, soul...no room for the heart. That is, until you find yourself dancing to the tune of someone else's beat.
The cardboard under your foot grew wet, soaking up the sleuth of water from the sudden downpour a moment ago. It was as if the sky opened up to remind you just how quickly it can all be washed away—the blood, sweat, and tears—so you're left with a clean slate. You watched as water dripped from the tip of J's nose. He was standing across the pit from you, hands on his narrow hips, and chest heaving from the exertion of the performance he put on before the sky took its turn. J was new to the scene, a fresh face trying to find his place—trying to find a crew. He's good—too good. Maybe if you had known that day, how things would go in the end, you would never have walked away. As it is, you gave him one more once over before turning on your heel and doing just that. Not because you didn't want him to join your crew, but because you were scared that he'd be the catalyst for you losing it all. Little did you know, that would happen anyway.
11. FF10: Dare Me To Eat You
The graphic for this one is already available on the Master Post. This is chapter 10 of my ongoing fic Fickle Flame and it's currently over a year behind in being posted, oops 😂😅
OT7 x FemOC & OT7 x OT7 Vampire/Werewolf/A/B/O Dystopian AU, Enemies/Lovers
“You want me to speak plainly?” Namjoon bites out, the words caustic behind clamped teeth. “I’m going to pump you so full of vampire venom you won’t have a choice but to turn into one! Satisfied?” There is a ringing in Shayne’s ears. It’s so loud she’s not sure she heard Namjoon correctly. She opens her mouth, intent on asking him to repeat his words, but saliva pools under her tongue, and the muscle seems far too thick to fit around her teeth. If it wasn’t for the air whistling down her throat, she’d almost believe she was choking. The words won’t form. They refuse to slip from between her lips. A vampire. He wants to turn her into a vampire. “No.” Finally, a word slithers out. She repeats it, letting it pour out in a stringed litany of denial. “No, no, no, no, no—" Her world rocks alarmingly as Namjoon jerks her around to face him, his hand still tight on her upper arm and the other closing over her mouth, cutting off her tirade. He towers over her, a formidable presence of sheer power. There is a flash of yellow in his eyes, the irises taking on a tinge of red as it passes. “You are the first inkling of hope we’ve had in nearly three decades.” He takes a slow, deep breath. “You will not fight me.”
17. PULSE/Maknaevamps
Tumblr media
Vampire!MaknaeLine x Human!f.Reader Futuristic Urban Fantasy Thriller, Vampires
This is what I have down in my notes "It’s a futuristic sci fi setting, imagine like cyberpunk 2077 or a bit of Tron. But the underbelly of the city is dark and insidious, as one would guess. The maknae’s are like mercenaries of a sort, meting out their own taste of justice to people pushing a drug called Pulse that’s like vampire cocaine that’s turning vampires feral. The FMC gets caught up in the drug trading and ends up being caught by them."
There is a lot more to it, but that would give away the entire plot altogether 😂 I've honestly been frothing at the mouth of wanting to get started on this. I don't even have a snippet to share because all I have so far are my outline notes and bulleted plot points.
18. On Blades of Amethyst & Echoes
Tumblr media
Dragon Rider!Yoongi x Psion!f.Reader Strangers to Lovers, High Fantasy Summary: The horizon blazes the color of amethyst, an ode to a coming death that will sweep the land if you don’t stop it. Secrets long hidden are revealed, but they come at a steep cost, as you have no choice but to follow the echoes of things long since past.
This, of course, is a follow-up to JK's story, On Wings of Mist & Memories.
I don't have a lot of finished content for this, just mostly giant walls of text/notes from my frantic brainstorming when I finished JK's story 😂 But, I can share a little of the notes, even if it won't make sense at all. Be aware that I have named JK's FMC from his story for the sake of story writing but have removed her name from this snippet of notes 👀
JK’s Psion travels with JK and Yoongi, who is now the captain of the guard, to go and investigate the mountain range border and figure out why reports have stopped coming from the outposts. They find all manner of soldiers frozen/suspended in time, the only indicator or trace of what happened is a distinct purple dust that clings to everything. Yoongi's FMC is another Psion, one with a secret and a past she is trying to run from. She's also the only person they find NOT frozen by the mysterious purple dust. Yoongi has so many questions, like 'Where did she come from? Why is she here at a military outpost when no Psion has been assigned to this quadrant?' And he's going to get the answers...no matter what it takes.

Current Final Fantasy Rankings
Disclaimer: I've played everything up through 12, and nothing after, so 13, 15, and 16 aren't on here. Also some of them I played many, many years ago.
Top tier: FF6, FF7, FF10. I think these are clearly the best games in the franchise. If I wanted to introduce someone to the franchise I'd almost certainly hand them FF10.
Favorites tier: My favorites are FF5 and FF9. But I think they're objectively not as good as the top tier. FF5 pushes a lot of my buttons but has a ton of metacommentary. FF9 also has a ton of metacommentary, and I just played it at a time in my life (right before moving cross-country during the pandemic) that made me very sentimental about it.
Perfectly Fine Tier: FF2, FF3. I enjoyed these and I would play them again! (I did play the GBA remake of FF2; I might have found it more annoying if I'd played NES. I did play the NES version of FF3, which I quite liked!)
Tier of Disappointment: FF4, FFX-2, FF12. I think FF4 is objectively better than 2 or 3 but there's just nothing in there that really connects to me (and the lack of character build options is a let-down). I've written about X-2 and XII before. Both of them were made with real craft, and certainly are objectively more polished than any of the first six games. But they were also hitting way below their potential, with stories that didn't do pull their weight and systems that I found more frustrating than interesting.
Yeah, fuck that: FF8 and FF1. I did not like FF8 at all. Part of this is that I didn't connect to the protagonist at all; part of this is that it nearly exactly anti-synergizes with my playstyle. (And because I go in zero-spoiler, I didn't even necessarily realize that.) It took me like three years to get through because picking it up again always felt so demoralizing. FF1 is the only one I haven't played in "this playthrough sequence"; I played in college almost twenty years ago and haven't since. I'm pretty sure if I picked it up again it would be really frustrating, though. Too much grinding, too many places you can Just Die, and not enough interesting moving pieces to glue it together.

Also I played the ff16 demo and vaguely worded SPOILERS
I liked Joshua a lot. I got hype I could play him. Yoko Taro games make me quite fond of cute boy main characters (Emil, Nier, 9S) and I know like generally in the genre people like Tough Cool Men as leads in games not cute short anime boys.
So I figured playing Joshua was a fun rare thing. I figured I'd play the older brother big tough soldier cause 1. Obviously (he's the main character) 2. He's the obvious game lead choice. 3. Very few games anyway are going to give me a cute short guy protagonist (outside of Link, or a Nier game, or Kingdom Hearts I guess since Sora is technically the tiny cute weaker guy compared to Buff Riku best friend... and kingdom hearts is probably why I expect and desire to play the cute more relatable shorter dude... and cloud another Nomura design definitely contributes to expecting that lol).
I also figured. Cute younger brother? I've played jrpgs before. Giant chance this kid would die or go missing or be kidnapped and become the emotional motivation for Clive. Just like Riku (the bigger older stronger best friend in Kingdom Hearts) is motivated greatly to protect Sora (who's Joshua's equivlaent), and how Kairi (smaller and weaker than Sora) is used as part of Soras motivation. Or in Nier Replicant, how niers smaller younger sister being ill and needing protecting is used as his motivation (And Nier Replicant comments on a lot of typical fantasy gamr tropes). So I figured: aww man. I love Joshua, he's probably getting ripped away from me :c i know how this goes. (I am however VERY happy ff16 gives you time to care about Joshua. Ff15 has lunafreya be the weaker etc motivation for Noctis, and you don't see lunafreya much at start of game... which makes the motivation less meaningful or important to the player. Seeing Joshua and playing him at the start help a lot to make a player CARE the way Clive cares. Same how in Kingdom Hearts, playing the destiny island bits gives you a reason to care about Sora losing his friends as he cares).
I also perhaps dreaded. I've played The World Ends With You. Joshua is um. Quite the character in that game. Without spoiling, its safe to say if I see the name Joshua in a square enix game now I get very suspicious and notice that character will probably be significant.
SPOILERS
Anyway I. I am torn between hoping the rest of ff16 has more Joshua, or it doesn't. Either way, strong initial choice and good set up for me to care about Clive. I selfishly want more Joshua cause I like playing Emil like characters, 9S like characters, and always want more
The whole guy in tan hood who mouths something? I got flashes to ff10 and I'm dreading in a good way lol. I was like?? Time traveling Joshua? Clive seeing himself in 3rd person cause he snapped? Joshua's soul inside Clive so we are STILL somehow playing both of them moving forward (if Clive ever turns into a phoenix I'll lean toward this theory)? A literal weird talking phantom situation a la ff10 which could bode FANTASTIC if the ff16 plot can commit to whatever wild plot it decides on and fully execute it.

Okay, what do I actually want to see from 7.0?
Story wise- I just need to see Zero in the cinematic, please, Krile too, want them as actual longterm parts of the team. I wonder who might narrate the teaser cinematic?
Area wise- I really want Meracydia and/or the new world, but... I'm leaning towards Dalmasca being more likely? With Erenville's comments, I think we might be heading to that neck of the woods, and it would be nice to see Yanxia and maybe Bozjan rebuilding efforts. There was also way too much focus on Corvos for us to not be going there this or next expac in some capacity. I still want Al Bhed people from Meracydia, but I'm still waiting on a ff10 expansion in general, give me To Zanarkand as an orchestrion yoship aaaaaAAAAAAAAA
Job wise- I'm expecting a caster and something on the ninja gear, I would like corsair as a melee/ranged combo like redmage is a ranged/melee combo. Box art jobs are always melee/tank though, would be nice if they mixed it up but I'm not expecting it. What haven't they done yet? Ninja, Gunbreaker, Reaper... hmmm Gnb and Rpr are taken by npcs which leaves Ninja or some new melee class on Ninja gear? Caster, Geomancer with a bell or something entirely new, I'll probably give it a try regardless.
Crafting wise- I want another Diadem, or expended Diadem, idk, SOMETHING. I'd love a Garlemald reconstruction effort, make the instance going into Babil and surrounding rubble to gather mats to reuse? I also don't want island sanctuary to be set aside, keep adding to that. I'm hoping we get more info on islands in the live letter tomorrow. I may have seen an old datamined area I want to see if it's real...
I'll be liveposting my incoherent ramblings probably, I'll tag them hmm, 7.0 spoilers? And 6.0 spoilers too for those that haven't finished Endwalker.

What do you think of the latest Final Fantasy updates? And do you think that Aerith will still have to.......you know?
PS Cloti for life!
Tumblr media
Firstly, NUH-UH CLERITH FOR LIFE
(ff7 spoiler warning)
Secondly, yes, I think she will "have to," but I think they'll throw a curveball at us. Maybe they'll find a way to avoid it, maybe someone else will "have to," but in the end the fact remains that she "has to" in order to ensure that she's in the Lifestream to summon Holy when the Meteor hits.
So I think it doesn't happen at the same time as in the OG, thus lulling us into a false sense of security until in the end it becomes clear that she has to go, and she and Cloud have a heartbreaking moment (a la FF10) where she has to go and Cloud's like "no I love you more than I could ever love anyone else especially more than that Tifa chick" and something suitably dramatic happens like maybe he dives into the Lifestream after her and they're reunited in the afterlife (a la FF15).

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - Aerith Singing "No Promises to Keep" Scene - ...

Just got to this part in the game.
It made me think of ff10-2 thousand words.
This was too good and I completely had no idea this was gonna be a thing, really makes me not want to finish the game for what happens later on (no spoilers).

Stuff
I'm playing Persona 3 Portable again, with the intention of 100% it - or at least doing all Social Links and completing the compendium. When I last played P3P and while playing FF10 it would crash a lot, but I ended up finding the solution - opening the Settings app beforehand (this is on my Vita). I can theorise why this fixes it (it loads my memory card better or something), but who knows. Every system has it's quirks. If I hadn't have found that solution then I never would've been able to beat FFX's final series of fights, so I'm VERY glad I discovered it.
Searching for "soleil fire emblem" on Bluesky doesn't bring up my own post there for whatever reason. I hope it's just a me thing. I suppose when Bluesky can be freely viewed without an account I can test it that way.
I ought to post about Persona 5 Tactica given how I'm a big Persona fan. I have no interest in getting it - I'm burnt out on both Persona spinoffs and Persona games that take place in the middle of the main story and might as well be filler arcs. The art style isn't doing anything for me either. I also didn't finish Persona Q2 for what it's worth. Geega played it though so I'll watch her VOD of it at least.
One thing I keep feeling like pointing out about Final Fantasy X - I finished it for the first time this year as I've said, and I managed to avoid any spoilers about the ending (albeit I knew an incredibly vague detail). However, I would've been (partially) spoiled on the ending one month later - so I picked a good time to finish it.

i had initially been a bit dissatisfied with the way that death and religion was portrayed in ffx (and also the way it seems to be portrayed in what ffx2 spoilers i had accidentally exposed myself to), but im starting to think that im viewing it too much thru my personal abrahamic lenses and that ill need to reread on buddism(?) and okinawan culture in particular to better understand it. this especially came to mind after i read the excerpt from uematsu on the wiki page for Suteki Da Ne, and how it was based off traditional okinawan melodies. i had already known that ffx was strongly inspired by okinawa and japanese(?*) culture, with tidus' japanese name being the okinawan word for Sun ☀️, and that the characters actually look like japanese people in the fmv (which i loved btw. it was soooo so nice to see characters that looked somewhat similar to me rather than a racially ambiguous anime character <3)
i was mostly displeased with its handling of death bc it was very unreflective of real life, bc in real life spirits do not linger around and say words beyond their last words. but like i said this is a rather personally abrahamic view of death and ill need to consider other cultural viewpoints and ideas of death and lingering spirits. with its portrayal of religion it had more to do w the fact that it felt more like a debunking of beliefs rather than a critique on organized religion. but yet again ill hv to do some more reading on ff10 and its inspirations to better understand the intent behind the way these 2 themes were written.
