THIS. This is what comes to mind with my Azem lore--doubly so for her successor (Ajax) who accidentally summons a solar flare when he has a mental breakdown and just burns a number of people alive.
The Seat may have started as a traveling position but when Talia takes over, she considers herself much more than a simple traveler--she sees herself as an enthusiastic weapon for Amaurot to wield against its enemies.
Big fan of sun motifs in characters not necessarily being about positivity and happiness and how they're so " bright and warm" but instead being about fucking brutal they are.
Radiant. A FORCE of nature that will turn you to ash. That warmth that burns so hot it feels like ice. Piercing yellow and red and white. A character being a Sun because you cannot challenge a Sun without burning alive or taking everything down with them if victorious.

Forgive the horrid screenshot but I’m so curious do we think Aymeric is actually interrogative, is Estinien just being dramatic or does it fall somewhere in the middle with these bozos? 🤔

Many things were used to describe the mad hermit of Amaurot: a drunkard, degenerate, cynical, and even monstrous by those who stirred trouble for the newly appointed Azem. But nothing could prepare Emet-Selch for what he would see for himself, when offered a chance to meet the Sun's Shadow.
#ffxiv#ancients#endwalker spoilers#emet selch#lahabrea#azem#azem oc#apollo#dionysus#hemitheos dionysus because I like the thought that anyone with soul sight will look at him#and they get to be jumpscared by what i like to personally imagine as a winged embodiment of void or the abyss#I would say the moon but within the context of FFXIV the moon isnt actually a normal astral body#though like azem/apollo and the role of the sun#I write dionysus to be the astrological moon#a character who represents the subconscious and the self- who often sees and brings out the worst in those around him#how I basically describe as being around him will break you to your barest so you can remake yourself into something better than before#unfortunately for the convocation he is also an antithesis to their ways and their biggest critic- out of love- funnily enough#also dont mind the idea that magic (especially creation magic) is so deeply ingrained that the idea of manual work is surprising to people#dionysus has to constantly use his aether to suppress his power he's either doing things by hand or sleeping#ancient zenos does not get to escape the sleepy curse#weird vintner in the mountains found lounging off in the middle of his vineyard#emet expecting dion to be the problem out of the duo until he realizes that /apollo/ is the overprotective cryptic and chaotic weirdo#with the power to stop an active volcano#and dion is the chill and collected hardworking man who despite everything is more human than most#tbh this was mostly inspired by the scenes with thordan and varis and how they react to WoL and Zenos in those moments#for dion/zenos it is their being while on the flip side for WoL/Azem it is their choices and the expression of such choices

febhyurary, day 8: crystal
30th sun of the 2nd astral moon, 1568
elaine tatlonghari's field report #19 "it is the nineteenth day of our excursion deep within the eastern region of the twelveswood, and before now we have uncovered naught but the standard fare of dirt, rock, and peculiar vegetation samples. just when it seemed our luck, and our studium funds, were running out, my fellows from the excavation team stumbled upon something rather curious: a shimmering yellow stone—nay, 'stone' is not what I would call this, more like a crystal. no bigger than my hand, I find its weight strangely leaden cradled within my palm. upon further inspection, it's not like any crystal I have seen. to be so perfectly smooth without so much as a scratch, complete with jagged edges sharp enough to puncture skin. whereupon hitting a light source, the crystal takes on an almost translucent appearance. it appears to have a pattern etched on its surface, but I do not yet know its meaning. my associate haeljarr believes it to be some sort of star map for an ancient civilization that once inhabited this corner of the twelveswood, before the time of the amdapori; could it be a representation of an age-old constellation? I'm not so easily convinced; to have lay under the dust and grime of crushing rubble for such a long stretch of time with nary a sign of age to show for it... haeljarr was always fond of his lofty summations. it is my belief that this crystal is of our age, perhaps dropped by another archaeologist somewhere out there. we will not know for sure until further studies are done. nevertheless, we shall continue our excavation on the 'morrow in hope we uncover more crystals like this. if they're anything like allagan tomestones, this discovery should hold some worthwhile knowledge."

I think one of the biggest lore tidbits for Endwalker can actually be found in Shadowbringers, where you and the Scions go to Anyder and see the old recording of Venat and her followers.
I admit one of the questions I asked myself after going through the Elpis arc was “Why didn’t Venat try to warn people more? Why didn’t she try to make the Convocation listen despite Fandaniel being there?”
As we see in Shadowbringers, her group did try to warn the Convocation…but no one listened.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking at the chronology of events, however, the warning came at an unfortunate time. The Convocation was missing two of the members who probably would’ve listened - Azem, the problem-solver, who had stepped down…and Elidibus, the impartial judge, who was now a primal.
Venat says herself that the Convocation was more focused on a short-term fix rather than a long-term solution.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It certainly paints an interesting picture of what life was like at the end of the Ancient’s civilization. Was Venat in the right for doing what she did? I’m sure you’ll get a different answer depending on who you talk to. But one thing is clear, the Convocation wasn’t the same without Azem and pre-primal Elidibus, both who would’ve been willing to listen despite it going against the norm. In the end, the entire Star suffered for it.

final choices based on previous poll results
guide for anyone confused by my commentary:
p4: Hesperos the vampire man who was obsessed with Laha
p6: Hegemone who flirts by infecting you with parasites
p11: Themis (self-explanatory) in the golden throne room of the convocation which is not at all a strange thing to have in a society built on 'equality' right emet
