Legionários: Episódio Piloto
by 7SofiaPisciana28 10 de Agosto de 2003. Las Vegas, Nevada. 19:00. Daphne: We Regret to Inform You
The letter was brief, perfunctory.  She’d written enough of them herself to recognize the tone.  “...Corporal Gibbs named you as his beneficiary...” was a surprise, though, and she set the paper down and stepped outside into the fragrant Amnoon night for a few gasping breaths under the moon.
Almost immediately she noticed a strange shimmer in the air, a patch of translucent oddness that turned the regular stone courses of the pyramid behind it to indistinct waves.  The scent of Ascalon filled the air in a rush: scrubby trees, hard clay, fire.  Gibbs’s pipe-smoke.  And just like that, she knew.
She pivoted to face the shimmer, the man-sized form.  “The letter wasn’t enough?” she said.  “You had to visit too, on your way Mistward?”  Smoke wreathed around her, drawing her skin into hard gooseflesh.  She let out a long sigh.  “I’m sorry, Finlay.  You came closest, so you know.  Out of all of them,  you came closest to making me stay.”
But the past was done, and with it, all regret, all remembrance.  Daphne lifted a hand to brush through the shimmer, to see it wrap briefly around her fingers.  “Go on,” she said quietly.  A year ago, she would have told him to go to his Gods, but where would that have taken him?  “The Mists need some cheering up,” she said instead.  “Go tell a few jokes.  Lighten the mood.”
A breeze teased her black curls before the shimmer faded.  She pressed the heels of her hands against her eyes until she saw stars in the blackness.  When she dropped her arms, it was in the service of moving back toward her desk, to the orders beneath the letter.  Living beings had need of her, more than the dead ones.  The past was done.  Let it lie.
(( Daphne Ironstar was a character I only wrote about before my long hiatus, and I think she’s going to come out to play.  She’s bidding farewell to @finlaygibbs. ))

Makers’ names: Lynette Kleiven (born Wright), Judy Wright, Joan Adam, William Wright, Tim Wright, Robyn Tyler, Ben Wright, Jess Ashley
Petition sheet number: 297
Person honouring: Rachel Wright
Relationship to makers: Great-great-grandmother of William Wright and Lynette Kleiven
Rachel Gibb was born in Carnbroe, Lanarkshire, Scotland about 1848.

She was a milliner and dress maker and in 1870 she married John Wright, a miner.  The couple lived in the coal and ironstone mining villages in the hills near Dalmellington in Ayrshire, Scotland.

In 1870 their son Robert was born and daughter Jessie was born in 1873. Sadly Jessie died as a young infant; another daughter, also named Jessie, was born in 1875.

In August 1876 the family sailed from Glasgow to Dunedin on the sailing ship Dunedin. The voyage took 83 days. Unfortunately Jessie died of meningitis during the long journey.

In 1878 the family settled in the South Oamaru area where husband John was employed on the railways. They had five more children: Christina Rachel (1879)
, Esther (1882), Mary Brydone (1883)
, Margaret Finlay (1887)
, and John (1892).

Initially they lived in Waiareka, then Toka-rahi and Totara (south of Oamaru).
In 1899 Rachel was employed by the Post Office as postmistress and telephonist at nearby Toka-rahi.

At a presentation at Totara in April 1908 to farewell the Wright family, the Oamaru Mail reported the following words spoken by John Macpherson (Manager of Totara Estate):

“Speaking of Mrs Wright, words failed him to convey all he should say of the many good qualities of that lady. Were it a time of sickness or trouble, she was ever ready day or night to do what she could for any one in the district, and all were sure of a cheery welcome at her house. Her connection with the post office and telephone bureau at Totara entailed a good deal of worry, but the speaker had to compliment her for the way she had conducted her duties.”

In September 1908 Rachel sold their six-bedroom house at South Oamaru; in October 1908 she and John retired to Christchurch. Rachel died in Christchurch in May 1933.
Panel materials: Lynette supplied cotton quilting fabrics for the background, Joan supplied pieces of lace, beads, fabric flowers (except the pohutukawa), and ribbon. Ben supplied photo fabric for Rachel's photo. Judy supplied embroidery threads, felt, and some cotton fabric. Map fabric was from an old shirt of William's. All materials were supplies we had to hand.

Reflective essays in nursing practice Nursing Reflection - Essay Samples
The approach involves the use of a model of structure reflection, one-on-one group supervision and the keeping of a reflective diary (Quinn, 572). Nursing Reflection. Going back through previous experiences and tracing back the footsteps we have made allows us to reminisce about the good things that have happened in our lives. Somehow the undesirable memories would also seep in as they are part and parcel of our existence that we cannot do away with. This process gives us an opportunity to encounter past events that can necessarily aid us in the future. In the Nursing practice, reflection is a retrospective approach that evaluates historical processing of experiences that takes place in a structured form and is deemed highly essential (Eliis, Kenworthy and Gates, 2003, 156). In the clinical practice, this retrospective activity facilitates in the promotion of quality care. The art of reflection however in the nursing practice focus on self rather than on the situation as the care provider (Quinn, 2000, 252). The process is a reflective practice that is a cognitive act by which we are allowed to make sense of our thoughts and memories (Taylor, 2000, 43). This method therefore allows a practitioner to generate a complementary or alternative form of knowledge and a set of choices in the evaluation of the best course of action. It is a “deep learning” experience that reflects on our knowledge and theories and go beyond merely thinking about what we do but involves recalling what had occurred and analyzing the situation by interpreting important information recalled (Taylor, 2000, 4). In Nursing, the reflective process is aimed about our own practice (Taylor, 20000, 3); that nursing education and research cannot do without as a common practice in the learning mechanism in which we all engage in a regular basis (Slevin and Basford, 2000, 483). With a main purpose of enabling the practitioner to learn from experiences and increase clinical effectiveness, reflection is highly essential to the nursing practice. For this process to be effective, Johns has provided a guided reflection which employs different models of self-inquiry to enable a practitioner to realize desirable and effective practice (2002:3). Considering that this involves a cognitive and emotional component that is expressed through analysis, different models would aid us feel comfortable about the activity. John’s model can be used in preparation for or during clinical supervision and applicable to specific incidents rather than more general day to day issues and particularly applicable to those who prefer a structure approach (Ellis, Kenworthy and Gates, 155). Gibbs Model use term description rather than “a return to the entire experience” as a form of reflection is considered as a simpler method but one where a mentor or facilitator is likely needed(Davies, Bullman and Finlay, 2000, 84). Both models however in supervision practice can be used to facilitate clinical governance through the promotion of quality care where an exchange between two professionals employing this technique seeks to improve their practice (Watkins, Edwards and Gastrell, 2003, 266).... UQ To Open New CBD Campus
The University of Queensland has submitted a development application at 295 and 299 Queen Street to occupy levels 6 and 7 of the Custom Credit House building.
The site is rectangular in shape having an area of 834 sqm with frontages to Queen Street and Edison Lane (to the rear). The faculty of Business,  Economics and Law seeks to occupy the premises with floor plans designed by Woods Bagot.
Level 6 is targeted to be a teaching facility for MBA & Exec Ed programs/office space. Level 7 is targeted to be used for alumni & advancement related activities. The Chancellor’s Office and exec support staff would be located on this floor to be able to engage with alumni and VIP guests. The proposal is for occupation of part of the premises only (levels 6 & 7) and no new or additional gross floor area is proposed and no other floors within the building will be impacted by the proposal.
A UQ spokeswoman confirmed to BrisbaneTimes.com.au that the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law had leased the site, but said she was unable to provide further information about the plans.
According to the news site, the seven-storey interwar building, which was constructed in 1926 from a design by Melbourne architects Gibbs, Finlay and Morsby and Brisbane-based Thomas BM Wightman, originally served as the base for National Mutual Life. Suncorp Insurance bought the property in 1988.
The Queensland Heritage Register recognises the building as “a fine example of an interwar commercial building reflecting the dignity and solidity of a financial institution”.

Letter to the Old Regiment
Captain Ironstar Eighth Regiment, Ebon Vanguard Foewatch Encampment
Sir --
I’m well aware that you and I parted badly, and I’m well aware that I’m about to bring up the subject that got me kicked from my regiment and busted back to the First and the city.  I don’t give a damn.
Did Daphne go back to the Vigil after her leave?  She told me after your tantrum that she was done with you and me, and heading right back to Trinity to rejoin her Vigil unit.  Did she go?
I’m sure you know full well that the First is heading right into the crash zone. If I need to be looking for your daughter, I will, gladly.  If I need to be looking for her and you don’t tell me so, then Dwayna protect you.

Transfer
( Because more people read over here, rather than Finlay’s own tumblr! )
Capt. Harlow,
With my compliments, receive this shipment of herbs from past Foewatch.  I understand from my healers that this whatever-bush isn’t found near Ebonhawke, so they’re graciously sharing with the rest of you in the city.
The rest of the cargo is one necromantically-inclined corporal, Gibbs, who I’ve already had transferred out of Foewatch and into Ebonhawke, and it seems like you’re the lucky regiment to get him.  You enjoy.
That said, the Eighth and Foewatch owe you now, and I’ll remember it.
Capt. Ironstar Eighth Regiment, Ebon Vanguard Foewatch Encampment

[Finlay] Dead Man
The Pact pilot flipped onto her stomach and wiggled her bare backside, but after Finlay gave it the smack she so obviously wanted, she laughed and curled away.  Naked, she displayed a whole range of spring colors:  carrot-orange hair, dusty freckles, warm skin.  “So I heard a rumor,” she said while trailing her toes up his shin.
He propped himself on his elbow just to see her better, languid now with exercise and some blessed relief.  Some squiggling bit of conscience told him he couldn’t both pine for Daphne and pound Marie, but other bits of him were perfectly happy with the arrangement.  After all, Daphne was the one who’d told him he was an fool when he’d said soft words.
“What rumor’s that, strawberry?” he asked.  Gods, it felt good when the woman knew what she was doing and didn’t attach sentiment to it.  A series of friendly, acrobatic fucks, and all the world looked better.
Marie smiled.  “You’re Grenth-promised, I know that.  Not a priest, but the magic, right?”
“Right,” he answered.  “I can’t think of any other quip that doesn’t involve ‘bone’ in it, and that’s just lacking in class.”
Her laugh almost inspired him to a second rising in one encounter, and at forty, those were as rare as pigs flying down Kestrel Street.  “I heard you died.  When you were little.”
Well, that took care of the second rising.  He flopped back down on the camp cot, the left one of the two they’d shoved together.  “I did,” he said simply. “Before that, normal as any dumbass boy.  After, magicked well and good.”
“What was it like?”  Her voice was breathy now, and he kept his smile friendly while his good mood evaporated to ash.  It’s not like he hadn’t been asked the question before, and in the same situation.  Death and fucking seemed to go together in some odd way that turned people curious and stupid and regretting their questions in the morning.
Still, Marie had turned out to be a decent friend, and one he could talk to when Keser was out in the jungles killing the Dragon’s remnants.  So he answered with a sliver of the truth.  “Cold.  Wintry.  But not terrible.”  He shrugged. “Cold.”
She slid forward and set a hand on his belly, then laughed when muscles twitched.  “You warmed up.”  But he was done now, caught more in memories of mist and ice than in her good hands.  “Outside I did,” he answered, nodding, and after a while she stood to dress and go.
