"Кольцо Фелагунда" (Ring of Felagund) has basically been my whole life for a couple of days, what with us preparing to release it to The Last Homely Server. With Tample seemingly having abandoned the project, i had to figure out how the story was supposed to end. And now it feels like Ring of Felagund has partially become my baby. Now it is out. I love it so much, the over-the-top, unhinged, melodramatic findrahil fanfic about how glorification of power imbalance in relationships leads to tragedy. (At least, this is how i read it. So, of course, in the end the relationship must change and old ways abandoned.) (Translation under cut)

Since you asked about "the" rock operas, I assume you're interested in the Silmarillion rock operas. Finrod Zong / Finrod, the Rock Opera

Финрод is based on the tale of Beren and Lúthien as featured in J. R. R. Tolkien's Lay of Leithian and the Silmarillion. It ends after Lúthien defeats Sauron and frees Beren.

I'd recommend watching the 2014 staged concert first; it's my favourite, and there are English and Spanish subtitles available.

Лэ о Лэйтиан is another rock opera based on the tale of Beren and Lúthien; however, it features the FULL story!

Сказание о Берене и Лютиэн

aka the Beren and Lúthien equestrian show. It's a NOTmusical with horses based on the tale of Beren and Lúthien, and looks just as amazing as it sounds.

Trailer:

I don't know overly much about this show, but I can tell you this much: it has three acts à 35 minutes, includes the Dagor Bragollach, and is recommended for audiences 16+. A fourth act premiered on 28 January 2024 without horses. Feel free to check out their YouTube channel and especially their VK pages for more clips and pictures. There's no full recording available, only a concert performance of the songs. Another stage version without horses was recorded in March 2023, but it is no longer available to purchase. According to the director, there are definite plans for an English translation of the songs as well as a film version of the musical.

Fingon & Gondolin Musicals

I'm definitely not an expert on these two, but you can find the theatre's page here. There are three full recordings of Fingon: 2021, 2022, 2023. The script can be found here - shout-out to @anna-dreamer finding and sharing it. A couple of songs from the brand new musical Гондолин premiered at КаминКон on 1 October 2022.

Finrod is finally being livestreamed. And you get to be sent a recording after the fact for an additional fee. 

WHEN

There will be two shows on 23rd October (4 pm MSK and 7.30 pm MSK), and both will be livestreamed. 

WHERE 

You can buy the access through a post on bootsy. Then you have to leave a comment to that post on bootsy which livestream you would like to see and whether you want a recording after the fact. The recording will be sent to you in 2 months after the show. 

HOW MUCH

One livestream costs about 20 dollars, additional fee for the recording is about 10 dollars.

MY THOUGHTS ON CAST (SORT OF)

I am not big on musical theatre, my knowledge usually ends on Finrod XD

The leading man Yaroslav Bayarunas (both livestreams) is a renown musical actor, but i’ve never seen him on stage, alas, excited to see him as Finrod though! 

Elena Bakhtiyarova (both livestreams) is an amazing musical actress, I’ve seen her in Phantom of the Opera, and she is a terrific Luthien. Gotta see her as Galadriel too (2nd livestream)! 

Highly recommend to see Maxim Rakovsky, our usual Finrod, as Celegorm (1st livestream), i’ve seen him play the part once, and it was damn terrific! 

Mikhail Sidorenko (2nd livestream) is the best Sauron i’ve seen on stage. Yes, he is better at it than even Seraphim, go get me.
