So... Book VI ending

When I saw the video for Hardin I was inmensely happy, but didn't expect him to come home three times, the first two being at fucking 3%. And this luck in general, I was going to pick Ganglöt at 40 summons anyways.

Starting to save orbs again, but surely worth it.

The book itself was better than I thought, considering I was expecting another book III. Surely it was bad to see Letizia gone so soon and all of Bruno's situation made me angry (I expected it, but Alfonse gets on my nerves). Ash and Elm were underdeveloped, considering their similarity to certain Skyward Sword characters. He appeared too often without getting any personality and she was often forgotten. I guess she's still alive if nothing's been said?

Embla was far better than expected, though (besides her majestic designs). Fáfnir and Eitri are the best ones, but she's done quite a good job for a Heroes villain. And Askr wasn't bland at all, so nice to see him.

What do I think will be book VII? Either a completely new book like IV or V, or some crossover of characters like Líf or Bruno, if Thórr and Loki are planning something. We might get and ending video soon, and these tend to be quite interesting. Or we'll wait until the FEH channel happens.

Anyways, I gave one of the axes to my favourite secondary villain:

Ganglöt's skills just seem to be made for him, so I started working a bit on it. He still has to learn Joint Dist. Guard and get the refine, but he already got little damage from Pent before learning QR4. Pent, the fucking legend. Perhaps he'll get a Prf. weapon soon, but it was such a good opportunity.

And here he is, next to Fáfnir. He's like a mix of all SS villains, so it's cool to see them standing next to each other.

Anyways, the Forging Bonds supports have been quite good this time. Bantu teaching Tiki how not to be racist (even if it follows the boring dragon-children structure), Elice bonding with people... The most predictable plot was Hardin's but it was very well done, but surely the best one was Nyna's. But that might be because Dagr's one of my favourite FEH characters.

Also, Hardin's confession... 😢 Why does he have to suffer so much. At least in one of his voice lines has him calling us a friend. I'm intrigued to see Ganglöt's confession, too.

Also, where the fuck is the summoner in the story? I'm glad we got a bit of Sharena screentime, but we need more.

Do you believe you have a type of character you gravitate towards writing? It's hard to say these days. I like dynamic characters because I've hit too many walls over the years where threads stagnate because neither me nor my partner are able to move the scene in a meaningful way. I'm here to have fun, not slog through threads just to get the point at the end, so writing lively, aggressive, or bratty characters has allowed me to always have an emergency button on hand. Outside of that, I enjoy the concept of leadership in a guardian sense. What it means to protect a community, etc. I don't like writing kings and queens, so I prefer characters who have this on a smaller scale. Perne, for example, who leads the Dandelion Gang. I've also joked with Rai that I tend to pick up men who are subservient to some sort of powerful woman. With that said, lately I've been feeling the itch to return to my roots as a melancholy knight writer.

Do you have characters or types of characters you don’t think you can handle writing, but wish you could? I think I could give anything a good run if I tried

What kind of scenes, situations etc do you believe you enjoy writing the most? Sceeeeenes. I love describing vistas. I love placing characters in a fleshed out world. No one exists in a vacuum, and how characters arrange themselves and interact with the environment around them is just as important as what they're doing and thinking.

Do you have any scenario in mind for your muse(s) that gets you thinking “man I hope I get to write this one day”? Not at the moment. For Griss, I always take scenarios as they come, and that usually evolves into new and unexpected things

I need like. A Don't Make Me Tap The Sign about Alfonse Fire Emblem specifically about his character and how he's perceived sometimes. Like Book 7 Chapter 12 he's just like that. He's always been like that.

I feel like I've def said it more eloquently before probably in Book 5 (regarding Reginn and Fáfnir), where like. He Will try for and favor a peaceful solution, but if it's clear there's no way out without violence and killing the threat/adversary. He won't hesitate. He won't falter. Crit line literally references this actually, "Above all, the mission".

Like I feel like the difference between Alfonse just doing Alfonse things (most recent chapter Seidr having to kill Kvasir, no way out of it -- plus also even considering killing Seidr herself, if that were to end Gullveig) and the Letizia moment was like. The Letizia moment was a BOLD gambit he played, which is WHY it was so shocking in the story and as an audience member, and why I think it left such a deep impression. Still very in character for him and the way he thinks/problem solves on the fly, carefully evaluating the situation and what would be the best move with the highest rate of success. (THAT LAST BIT ACTUALLY........ he'll do this even with low rates of success, out of sheer stubbornness as well. Which is why I still stand by him being rash at times, a LOT of his rashness is disguised as "calculated risks" and he just has the willpower to pull it off. The worst-best type of guy to me LMFAO)

Going back a bit though, the Letizia moment also stands out as an example of how far Alfonse is willing to go to win, especially if his back is pushed against the wall. It gives you a FASCINATING glimpse into his character and into his mind. A lot of times Lif would be an enigma to me, beyond the basics, character wise. Like yeah I guess that would fuck up a guy. But his methods (working and making contracts with gods when especially as Alfonse he knows better than that??) would be inscrutable to me. But everything absolutely finally clicked when Alfonse made that gambit, playing to Letizia's personality and whatever preconceived notions she may have, that maybe Alfonse could find a weak spot in and take advantage of. Lif is doing the exact same thing. His judgement is maybe a little worse for wear on account of, well *gestures vaguely to all of him* but he's still very much doing The Same Thing.

LIKE. I'm def straying from my point which is. Alfonse isn't shy about having to resort to violence. It Is a resort. But if it has to be done, it will be done. Any damage control (such as Sharena's feelings -- she has CLEARLY been extremely upset these past chapters) can be resolved later. (This.... is also fascinating to me..... bc it's always been clear to me his loved ones are the people who ground him, who stop him from losing himself, from becoming cruel in his practicality and tendency for detachment. There Is his morality as well -- but his loved ones are a huge part in what keeps him kind.)

I guess what I'm really trying to say is. Hit me up next time Alfonse is playing 4D chess with the enemy or throwing himself in a ditch on purpose just to indulge his baby sister's current pet project. THOSE feel like standout examples of Alfonse Off The Shits (but still completely in character for him tbh), while like. The rest is just par for the course for him. Just another (especially traumatizing) Tuesday.

Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? It used to be serious knightly types, but I think since TOA, I've gravitated more toward characters who are confrontational or can stir up the status quo.

What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? Past tense!! Past tense!!! I usually try to match my partner so I almost never get to write in past tense these days, but my writing comes so much more easily in past tense. I also enjoy writing grand, sweeping scenes and descriptions of places/things.

Favorite TOA-related memory: Team Justice during Lock & Key is still my favorite event experience to this day.

Ridill / リジルの剣 and Hrotti / 魔書フロッティ

Ridill (JP: リジルの剣; rōmaji: rijiru no ken) is a magic sword belonging to Thales, the leader of the Agarthans. This is in reference to Riðill (also called Rithill or Refil), the sword of the dwarf Regin in Norse mythology. Regin's father Hreiðmarr demanded recompense from the gods after Loki had killed one of his children. In response, the Aesir gave him the gold of a dwarf named Andvari. Amongst the treasure was a ring that cursed anyone other than its original owner that wore it with calamity. After Hreiðmarr grew attached to the ring, his two sons Regin and Fáfnir killed him for his wealth. However, the avarice of Fáfnir was greater, and he fled with all of the gold. Soon after he found a place to make home, he adopted the form of a terrible dragon.

Regin would later join his foster son Sigurd in the quest to slay Fáfnir, reforging the blade Gram to fell his draconic brother. With the dragon dead, Regin used his personal blade Riðill to carve out the Fáfnir's heart and drink his blood. Before he went to sleep, he tasked Sigurd with cooking the heart, but prohibited him from getting a taste. Fortunately for the hero, he burnt his finger on the meat and instinctually put it to his mouth; unlike the similar myth of Fionn mac Cumhaill, Sigurd only learned the speech of bird. But he gave ear to the birds, who revealed that Regin was using Sigurd to claim his father's gold and planned to kill him. With this knowledge, Sigurd beheaded his foster father and loaded his horse with the dragon's horde. Though Thales never uses the sword in-game, the relation between the Norse narrative and the Agarthans is evident. Just as Riðill was used to gouge out a dragon's heart, those who slither in the dark and their pawns killed the Nabateans and tore out the crest stones their bodies carried. It wouldn't be a surprise if Ridill was intended to be the very blade used for such acts.

In a rare piece of nomenclature of the original Fire Emblem Warriors: In Japanese, Darios's sword Risyl is called リジル (rōmaji: rijiru). So surprisingly, Three Houses wasn't the game in the series to reference Regin's sword.

Hrotti, or in Japanese 魔書フロッティ(rōmaji: masho furotti) "Evil Tome Hrotti" is an assumed replica Hero's Relic tied to the Crest of Timotheos. The name references the sword Hrotti, which in most accounts of the story of Sigurd was a sword amongst Fáfnir's horde that he later uses. The name Hrotti means "thruster," which may relate to the tome giving a Major Crest user the Dark Spikes spell. Some believe that Hrotti is actually the same blade as Hrunting, a sword used by the titular hero of the epic Beowulf. In that story, the sword is bequeathed to Beowulf by Unferð, a man who had disliked him greatly, to be used in his fight with Grendel's mother. However, the sword is ineffective, leading some scholars to interpret the giving of Hrunting as not a respectful present, but an attempt to foil the hero. With it being an "evil tome" that uses dark magic, first seen used by an antagonist, attributed to the Dark Dragon, such a reference to a deceptive blade may be intentional. There is also a possibility that the kanji used in the tome's name 魔書 is phonetically similar to 魔所 (rōmaji: masho), meaning "a place where magic creatures (typically evil entities like demons) appear" or "a place where disaster regularly occurs." Whether of not the similarity intentionally relates to Hapi and her penchant for summoning demonic beast, the use of 魔 most certainly does, as demonic beasts are called 魔獣 (rōmaji: majū), using the same first kanji.
