I saw someone do something similar thought I would give it a try-From the perspective of being the outsider instead
Being Alfie’s sibling sucks at first cause Pickwell and Grayson are mean, and Fraser sexually harasses you and is homophobic and his other behaviours make you uncomfortable.
The other kids think you will be like Fraser cause Alf is his friend.
Rosie doesn’t say anything mean but she is struggling with Alfie so doesn’t really engage with you in case she acts unprofessionally – not that she would mind.
However one day a group of boys beat you up for not having a binary gender and deadnamed and misgendered you after your parents had done the same and threatened to tell the school you were sexually deviant to have you expelled they didn’t hit you too hard but it brought flashbacks and you couldn’t help but think Rem Dog would kill you. Rem Dog called for Mitchell to try and calm me down but I ran and hide and Rosie found you after about an hour and took you to Pickwell, she said she would stay with you in her office but Pickwell sent her out so you could chat. Rosie stayed outside though and had you at the back of her class for the rest of the day before driving you to Alfie’s house and explaining what had happened. She then had you moved to  just her, Pickwell and Alfie’s lessons and let you spend PE with her form, who because of Edmund Milbanks ( and some other kids who struggle in her form)and Rosie’s insistence that the PE teacher might upset them do Pilates, running and hockey on the field on rotation with her every Wednesday( weather dependent) and has an extra reading and relaxation session the other lesson  when the other groups are exercising with the option to just run.
Pickwell meeting: She told you it was alright and that nobody could hurt you because else she would hurt them and that she was sorry for thinking I was an arse like my brother.
She did a lot of obscure rapping and biblical metaphors.
She let you pet her owl
She wasn’t friendly like Rosie but she told you she would punish them 😊
After that Pickwell opened up to you( as well as letting you come to her to fix bullies she loves the power is legit) and asked Grayson to leave you alone and instead protect you. She may be imperfect( she sucks in cannon and I am not forgiving her), and her faked homophobia and adoration of Hitler is scary wrong and not the right way to earn respect, but she shares the things she has learnt from her life( sexual harassment/assault, transphobia, homophobia and her liking of drag leading to her being beaten up in primary school also religion but positive and mental healthy- she isn’t too strong on reality either) and therefore you try to be kind to her to.
Rosie she babied Edmund but when you and him said that it might be seen as her not believing in him and not just that she didn’t want others to hurt him she stopped and instead focussed on changing the attitudes of the school. She always gives you your exam arrangements and uses the correct pronouns and name and has a session at the begin of term when she asks everybody for their pronouns, name and anything they feel they need to share. Also a form and box to ask questions and get help on her desk. She looks through them every night and sends an email with slots for the next day. She also took you to pride and to scouts with Edmund, Jing and Mitchell and a few others because your parents wouldn’t take you and Alfie was weird. She did it as your brothers girlfriend and  to help out the others parents.
Jing learns you aren’t like Alfie when he sets Jing the homework for the entire class(once just once) and you go to report him, she says not to so you instead help out. She tells you about all the bad things people have done to her at home and the way people making fun of her race is annoying. You say that’s not okay and you say you will help report it. She says she likes Alfie and the school cause people don’t ask or tell and she is free to be homosexual and Alfie also helps her parents let her go a bit. She  helps you with your French homework and you let her borrow all your gay books, a binder, make up and a suit. You look out for her in lessons and tell Alfie and Pickwell off and then she looks out for you in the playground. Eventually you share trauma and study together- even go to pride as a project for sociology.
Rosie totally got Fraser fired for provoking your psychosis and asking if you felt uncomfortable in the darkened room. Because it is unprofessional and creepy, and he doesn’t do work so she thought it was worth it.
You beg Alfie to stop making fun of travellers and Joe and for the most part he works on dialling back the jokes- though Rosie often has to tell him off still when he crosses the line you have drawn.

Hey fellow fanpeople! I’m hoping some of you might want to participate in a study about fandoms I’ve gotten the opportunity to do. I’m at Uni to become a high school English teacher, and having been a fanfic reader/writer for years, I’m excited to use it in my classroom. I’m doing a research project about fandoms, so if you’d be willing to participate, the link (and a lot more information) is here: Lessons from Fandom It’s just a questionnaire that mostly asks about your experience in fandoms, and a little bit about your experiences in high school (if you have any). Your responses can’t be traced back to you, so no worries on that end - the IP address tracker on the questionnaire is even disabled - so no one (including me) will know whether or not you participate or what your answers are.
By the way, minors typically wouldn’t be able to participate in research without parental consent, but since some of us-myself included-are more ourselves online than we can be in person (and because one of the things I love about fandom is that it’s not ageist), I’ve gotten a waiver for this so that anyone who wants to participate can, without having to involve parents. (Though you’re welcome to tell your parents about it, of course!) However, due to Federal Trade Commission regulations, you must be at least 13 years old to participate.
All ages and levels of fandom experience are welcome. The only prerequisite is that you consider yourself to be in a fandom. Since a few of the questions are about high school experiences, experience as a student in a high school classroom will help, but it’s not necessary for participation.
Like I said, no one (including me) will know whether or not you do it, so no pressure. But I really hope to get enough participants to move forward with my project, so please consider it! I think you’ll find it fun. It’s like a whole string of asks :)
I’ll post the whole consent document below the cut - it’s also the information you’ll see when you first click on the link to the questionnaire, which is here: Lessons from Fandom
If you have any questions, DM me or email me or my supervising professor (contact info is in the consent document below).
Also, if you reblog this I will love you forever. A lot of you have a lot more followers than I do, so it would help me out tremendously. The more participation I have, the better.

Consent to be Part of a Research Study
Title of the Project:  Lessons from Fandom
Principal Investigator: Amy Crew, University of North Carolina - Charlotte
Faculty Advisor: JuliAnna Ávila, PhD, University of North Carolina - Charlotte
You are invited to participate in a research study.  Participation in this research study is voluntary.  The information provided is to help you decide whether or not to participate.  If you have any questions, please ask.
Important Information You Need to Know
The purpose of this study is to learn how individual participants in online fandoms perceive the power dynamics (i.e. who is in charge/who has the most power?) of those fandoms and in high school classrooms. This study will allow the researchers to gain more clarity into how fandoms operate, how various elements of fandoms are perceived, and which aspects are most significant to participants, which will to guide their conclusions regarding fandom practices being brought into high school classrooms.
You will be asked to complete a questionnaire which consists of 17 questions that relate to your experiences in fandom and in high school. Most of the questions require written responses.
If you choose to participate, it will require approximately 30 minutes of your time. It may take you more or less time, depending on how thoroughly you choose to answer the questions.
It is possible you may experience emotional discomfort while completing the questionnaire, especially if you have had negative experiences in either fandoms or high school. Apart from the question asking about your age, you may skip any question that makes you uncomfortable or that you do not wish to answer.
While completing this questionnaire will not provide any direct benefit to you, it could benefit adolescents in the future by encouraging classroom environments which are based on mutual respect and creativity.
If you choose not to participate, you may exit the questionnaire at any time without submitting it. The questionnaire is set up so that there will be no identifying information collected other than age and preferred pronouns (we ask your pronouns so that we can use them correctly if we reference a comment you make in our report on the study). IP addresses will not be tracked, so even a computer expert will not be able to determine that you completed the questionnaire or what your answers are. Neither the investigators nor anyone else will know whether you have completed the questionnaire, or be able to track your responses back to you.
Please read this information and ask any questions you may have before you decide whether to participate in this research study.
Why are we doing this study?
The purpose of this study is to learn more about how fandoms “work” so that aspects of fandom can potentially be applied in high school classrooms. The principal investigator has been an active participant in various fandoms for over ten years, and is a high school educator (currently student teaching). She would like to learn more about how, and whether, some of the practices of fandom could be used in high school classrooms. The results of this research will be analyzed and discussed in a chapter of an upcoming book on critical digital literacy and education.
Why are you being asked to be in this research study?
You are being asked to be in this study because you are a participant in fandom and (ideally) have had experience in high school.
What will happen if you take part in this study?
If you take part in this study, your responses will become a part of the growing body of knowledge about critical digital literacy and participatory (fandom) culture. However, your responses will not be traced back to you. We will not collect any identifying data about you other than your age and preferred pronouns (so that we can use correct pronouns if we reference a comment you make). Your IP address will not be tracked.
Clause for minors
If you are under the age of consent (which varies depending on location, but is commonly age 18), it is important that you are aware that typically, your parents or guardians would need to provide consent for you to take part in research. However, the investigators understand that many minors take part in fandoms without their parents’ or guardians’ knowledge, and that some of the content of those fandoms or the texts they are based on may not be acceptable to some parents/guardians. For this reason, and because participation in this study is considered “minimal risk” (i.e. it is highly unlikely that answering these questions will cause you any harm), the investigators have obtained a waiver of parental consent. This means that, should you choose to participate, you may do so without your parents’/guardians’ knowledge or consent. If you choose to share your participation with your parents/guardians, that is entirely up to you. To comply with Federal Trade Commission regulations, however, participants must be age 13 or older.
How will my information be protected?
We plan to publish the results of this study in a book. To protect your privacy we will not include any information that could identify you. The confidentiality of the research data will be maintained because we have disabled IP address tracking in this questionnaire and will not ask you any questions which could identify you other than your age and preferred pronouns. You may choose to indirectly identify yourself (for instance by mentioning the title of a fanfiction piece you have published), but this data will not be included in the publication of the research. (In the example given, the investigators would change the name of your fanfiction piece or reword your statement so that the title is not included.) If you indirectly identify yourself, the principal investigator may recognize your identity through her own participation in fandom; however, this information will not be disclosed to anyone else.
How will my information be used after the study is over?
After this study is complete, the information could be used for future research studies or distributed to another investigator for future research studies, or may be used in future publications or presentations, without additional informed consent. Again, there will be no identifying information attached to the information. The data we share will NOT include information that could identify you other than age, country of residence, and your preferred pronouns (for instance, we may say something along the lines of “A nineteen-year-old in the United States who is a participant in a fandom based on a fantasy YA novel said…”).
Who can profit from this study?
The investigators may profit financially from the sale of publications which include information from this study.
What are my rights if I take part in this study?
It is up to you to decide to be in this research study. Participating in this study is voluntary. Even if you decide to be part of the study now, you may change your mind and stop at any time. Other than the question about your age, you do not have to answer any questions you do not want to answer. It is acceptable to submit your questionnaire without answering all the questions. You may exit out of the questionnaire at any time without submitting it. Once you have submitted it, you will not be able to un-submit and we will not be able to withdraw your responses since we will not know who you are. The only way to retract your responses will be to contact the investigators and reveal which responses were yours. Should you do this, your responses will no longer be confidential; however, the investigators will delete the data you have requested to the best of their ability.
Who can answer my questions about this study and my rights as a participant?
For questions about this research, you may contact the principal investigator Amy Crew at [email protected] or via direct message in Tumblr [Tumblr username provided] or Twitter [Twitter username provided], and/or her faculty advisor Dr. JuliAnna Ávila at [email protected].
If you have questions about your rights as a research participant, or wish to obtain information, ask questions, or discuss any concerns about this study with someone other than the researcher(s), please contact the Office of Research Compliance at 704-687-1871 or [email protected]

Jury is Still Out- Nathan Hale + Benjamin Tallmadge + You
[A/N: hello! I wrote this back in December b4 I made this blog so that’s why it’s winter themed lol! But, I will be very inactive this week because of work & school so I wanted to post a rather long story (more under the cut!) an FYI: Nathan is a substitute teacher and Ben just got out of the police academy & is a desk jockey. I apologize for any incorrect lingo 😎 I also tried my very best to make this gender neutral like in my other posts but a pronoun or 2 may have slipped in during writing and I missed it in editing. Apologies! enjoy! 💓]
<<<
The tv light illuminates the room, a carton of takeout sat on the small chestnut table just out of reach. You’re staring at the ceiling, sprawled out on the couch, waiting to hear your phone ping.
“…was locked in for hours, this damn snow…”
A news reporter interviews a tenant who was locked in their apartment due to the blizzard that was raging outside. You were tempted to send another text, because maybe they would hear that one, when a knock echoes throughout the apartment.
“Nathan?”
You ask, because Ben always had his key. You sit up a little to fast, sliding on the hardwood in your socks as you race to the front door.
“I’m afraid not,”
A voice calls, and your saddened for a moment as you realize it’s your neighbors voice.
“Ah, Marie, how can I help you?”
You quickly unlock the door and greet her with a smile, one that she returns. She’s an older woman, who has helped the three of you out more times then you can count.
“I was wondering if you guys had electricity. I just walked in and found nothing was working.”
“I just had the tv on, but I hadn’t tried the lights. I can—“
And as you turn to flick the lights, the tv burns out and plunges the room into a deep black.
“Oh—gosh.”
“I suppose that answers my question.”
She laughs softly, one that you chime in with. You offer her to stay with you until it comes on, but she says she has to go call her daughter.
“Alright Marie, give a shout if you need anything.”
You return to your couch, using your phone as a flashlight to try and find any candles or lanterns around. Your nose wrinkles as you look at your selection of scented candles.
“Who bought these? Amber Moon? Cherries on Snow? What does that even mean?”
You push through the cabinet a little further until you find one scented like gingerbread, and light it.
There’s more waiting that comes after, waiting for the power to come on and waiting for your roommates to return from work.
Twenty minutes later, your phone pings. And it pings again, and then a third time. Nearly pouncing on it, you flip it over to see three new alerts.
Ones from your mom, a text to make sure you’re alright. You text her back, and then check the other two.
The second is a notification from Snapchat, and it’s a stupid story alert. You ignore it and check your third notification.
An email from your job. Saying they would be closed tomorrow due to the inability for the plow to get the front cleared.
“Son of a—“
You shout, ready to throw your phone when you hear the jingle of keys outside. The door swings open and a smile lights up your face as Nathan walks through the door and kicks it shut, loosening his tie in the process.
“You look like you’re having a rough day.”
He laughs, removing his tie and setting it down with his briefcase.
“Tell me about it! Why don’t you answer your phone? I was worried sick about you and Ben!”
“My phone?”
He looks confused for a moment before he pats his jacket. His hand reaches and pulls it out, clicking the on button with his thumb.
“Must’a died. I’m sorry, trust me I wanted to be home hours ago. Dumb meeting about stupid things.”
“It’s okay.”
He sits next to you on the couch, and starts picking at your carton of takeout. You look at your phone and frown, wondering where the heck Ben was.
“I suppose you haven’t heard from Ben today then?”
“Nah. Never usually do.”
His lax nature releases some of the tension built up in your shoulders, but you still hold some worry.
“He’s fine, (y/n). Trust me, he’s probably just helping some old lady across the street or something.”
Chuckling, he goes to plug in his phone and groans when it doesn’t turn on.
“Don’t tell me.”
“What? You think I sat alone in the dark waiting for you to come home? Powers out, buddy.”
He groans again.
The waiting game resumes, your phone on a low battery and Nathan’s dead. You forgot to plug in your laptop earlier and Nathan left his at the school he works at. You’re bored.
“I’m still worried about Ben.”
You say, watching as the clock on the wall ticks to eleven o’clock. Nathan is looking out the window and gets a grin on his face.
“Well, there’s a bunch of snow on the ground, but it looks like it died down. Let’s go pay Benny a visit.”
“Are you joking?”
A shiver runs up your spine at the thought.
“C’mon. A nice walk in the snow, with me? How could you refuse.”
You don’t answer him at first, but go to the closet to retrieve your snow coat and boots.
“Only ‘cause I’m worried about Ben.”
You mumble.
“Oh, of course. Got it.”
He laughs, and you lightly shove him. After you’ve both bundled up, you head out. You stop by Marie’s though, and ask her if she needs anything while you and Nathan are out.
“He’s lucky the precinct isn’t that far away.”
Nathan’s flaxen curls are already covered in snow, and you can feel the flakes on your eyelashes. Sure, it had died down, but it still was a heavy downpour.
You both walk a couple blocks until you reach the police precinct Ben works at. Sure enough, when you shake the snow from your shoulders and walk into the pen, Ben is sat at his desk, still in uniform and hunched over.
“Ben!”
You whisper-shout, careful not to disturb the other officers trying to get work done. He turns, dropping his pen when he catches sight of Nathan and yourself.
“What are you—?”
“Do you have to stay much longer? I was so worried about you and Nathan, I thought y’all were stuck in the snow or something!”
“I don’t. And thank you for worrying, but I can reassure you, i haven’t left this desk for hours.”
And he is exhausted, you can tell. There were about five coffee cups on his desk, and an untouched sandwich next to them.
“Ben—“
You start, but he gets the idea before you can even say it.
“Don’t worry, I’m done. Was just about to head out actually.”
”good, because I am freezing.”
Nathan shuffles, shaking some snow from his shoulders on to the floor. Ben shoves a paper in a Manila folder and shrugs on his jacket.
“I’ll be right back.”
Ben disappears to give the folder to someone, while Nathan and you stand awkwardly in the bull pen.
“He has his own desk. How cute.”
Nathan steals his sandwich.
Ben returns shortly, and unholsters his gun from his hip. He locks it in his desk drawer and claps his hands together once he’s finished.
“Alright kids, let’s get out of here.”
The three of you walk back to your apartment, you kicking the snow playfully as you trot along. Your sweats were soaked and snow boots coated in slush, but it was fun. The snow had slowed even more, but it left nearly two feet in its wake.
“Did you have a good day at work?”
You ask, and Ben sighs.
“It was alright. Nothing too exciting.”
“You aren’t a very good police officer, because you still haven’t arrested me for stealing your sandwich.”
Ben shoves Nathan.
“That was you? I was looking for that—“
“Anddd we’re home!”
You all trudge upstairs and collapse on the couch, tired and exhausted. With no power, the three of you dust off monopoly and play it by candlelight.
“Hey Ben.”
You groan at his sarcastic tone, and Ben looks up from the instruction manual.
“If it’s any consolation? It was a pretty good sandwich.”
Ben throws the box at him.

92 (I think it was 92???)
tagged by @fxvixen ayyyyye pretty ladayyy
rules: fuck the rules (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
LAST…
[1] drink: water
[2] phone call: this solicitor that won’t leave me alone. Really, I need to get on a do-not-call list
[3] text message: “xo”from my Mom
[4] song you listened to: “Waving Through a Window”
[5] time you cried: ummm, maybe a few nights ago while reading? I don’t really keep track, I get emotional over books.
HAVE YOU EVER…
[6] dated someone twice: as in, date the same person twice (no) or date two or more people (yes)?
[7] been cheated on: yes
[8] kissed someone and regretted it: not really. There was this really drunk kiss with my half-aunts husbands nephew. Which even though that’s far enough away from being incest it still weirded me out when I sobered up. Plus I can’t remember his name for the life of me.
[9] lost someone special: yeee
[10] been depressed: ah, haha, hahaha
[11] gotten drunk and thrown up: gotten drunk, yes. Never to the point of throwing up though. I’ve felt pretty sick the next day though.
LIST 3 FAVOURITE COLOURS:
[12] Blue. Like, a deep blue. Not so dark that it looks black, but, like, deeeep.
[13] I’ve always liked dark greens, but they don’t really look too good on me.
[14] Rolanberry Red
IN THE LAST YEAR HAVE YOU…
[15] made new friends: yep
[16] fallen out of love: not really
[17] laughed until you cried: oh yeah
[18] found out someone was talking about you? Bitch, who wouldn’t talk about me.
[19] met someone who changed you: maybe??
[20] found out who your true friends are: What constitutes as a “true friend”? I’ve always been perplexed by that notion. A friend is a friend. I just talk about different things with different people.
[21] kissed someone on your facebook list: Bet y’all’d like to know who ;) (that was me channeling inner middle-school Marina)
GENERAL…
[22] how many of your facebook friends do you know in real life: Now, this is something that I have to pick over. “in real life”. Like, if I have you on facebook I’m considering you as a part of my life (does that make sense??) And a lot of my facebook friends I have met through playing online games. So, no, I haven’t met them in real life (yet, someday I will take a massive road trip) but I consider us friends outside of playing games. So my answer is yes, all of my facebook friends I know in real life.
[23] do you have any pets: Jellicle (Jelli for short) is my kitty cat at my parents house. Unfortunately I can’t have free-roaming pets in the house I’m renting so I only have a beta fish, Hemingay, a bonsai tree (Groot 2.0, the first one was stolen off my porch), and a philodendron named Phil.
[24] do you want to change your name: Nada
[25] what did you do for your last birthday: uh, pretty sure I was playing video-games
[26] what time did you wake up: 10ish
[27] what were you doing at midnight last night: reading
[28] name something you cannot wait for: to move to the mountains and have a horde of huskies
[29] when was the last time you saw your mother: about 4 days ago
[30] what is one thing you wish you could change about your life: I wish i had a little more motivation??
[31] what are you listening to right now: my fan running in the background
[32] have you ever talked to a person named tom: yes, I know a lot of toms. What the fuck is up with this question?
[33] something that is getting on your nerves: people who don’t hit “reply all” in a group email. For real peeps, we’re all seniors in college. You should know this by now.
[34] most visited website: uhhhh, I’m honestly not sure. Tumblr is definitely up there, but even though I hardly ever post stuff I open facebook out of habit.
[35] elementary: what about elementary? Are you asking what school I attended? Who my teachers were? If I ever pulled the fire alarm? WEll, I didn’t pull the fire alarm, but I did like to flood the bathroom sinks and report to the teacher that “someone clogged the sinks again”. I was a weird child.
[37] college: comme ci, comme ca. I’m pretty much only taking online classes this semester.
[38] hair colour:  so up until I was around 12 my hair was white blonde. When i hit puberty though it slowly started changing color. I now have light brown hair, but in the summer it has blonde highlights.
[39] long or short hair: shoooooooort. I have an undercut that leads to one side being shaved.
[40] do you have a crush on someone: ehh. I’m attracted to a lot of people but i’m not interested in starting a relationship at this point in my life.
[41] what do you like about yourself? So it’s very cliche, but I fucking love my eyes. They range from green to gray to blue. And I have abnormally large pupils so they really accent them. People in high school just assumed I was high all the time.
[42] piercings: dude, guys, peeps, I love piercings. And I am majorly attracted to people with piercings. I have my double lobes done and an industrial bar on my left ear. If I didn’t bite my lips so much I would consider getting a lip ring because I fucking love them.
[43] blood type: AB- , yeah, I’m one of those people
[44] nickname: Mina/ Mina Bina, Rina, MooMoo (thanks Final Fantasy)
[45] relationship status: pining for dogs
[46] zodiac sign: virgo
[47] pronouns: she/her
[48] fav tv show: hmmmm, D. Gray-Man (does that count as a tv show? I don’t watch tv)
[49] tattoos: I have so many tattoo plans. I want the fuckign white tree of Gondor on my back.
[50] right or left handed: right, but I eat properly with my fork in my left hand.
FIRST…
[51] surgery: I had seven stitches in my chin when I was seven years old. Buuuuuut, I’m having major surgery this summer to reduce the size of my boobs. It’s gonna be a grand ol’ time. (hellooooo pretty bras)
[52] piercing: first lobes when I was 7
[53] best friend: I mean, I always call Staci my best friend. And we’ve known each other for our entire lives.
[54] sport: Technically I played soccer in kindergarten, but I wasn’t good at it.
[55] vacation: there’s pictures of toddler-me running naked towards the ocean in Florida with my mom chasing after me with my swimsuit.
[56] pair of trainers: oh fuck if i know, they were most likely blue and from JCpenney’s
RIGHT NOW…
[57] eating: cough drops
[58] drinking: coffee (I know, it’s a disgusting mix with cough drops)
[59] i’m about to: pretend the college didn’t just call me to pay my bill, lol too bad my voicemail inbox is full  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
[60] listening to: “Wildfire” - Keston Cobblers Club (it’s incredibly catchy, I strongly recommend)
[61] waiting for: the day I live in the mountains with dogs.
[62] want: for me to decide what I want for dinner
[63] get married: I guess I’d like to be married someday. But I often like to disappear and just be by myself, so, someone very understanding and able to give space would be needed.
[64] career: right now I work full-time as a Kitchen and Transportation Manager at a daycare. It’s amazing. So, I’m basically a fancy lunch-lady. But i’m also a full-time student. One day I will be a famous author and able to support myself through writing (hah_)
WHICH IS BETTER…
[65] hugs or kisses: So I really love hugs. Probably because you don’t get judged by hugging people platonically. And i’m always cold, so body contact is a major thumbsup imo. Buuuuut, I do also like kissing. But kissing kind of involves a hug (at least, most of the time?) In short, hugs are better just because they’re involved in both.
[66] lips or eyes: eyes
[67] shorter or taller: I like my fruity drinks tall, but since I am also a fan of a Manhattan I’m used to short cups as well.
[68] older or younger: I like how many of these questions aren’t even questions, they’re just assuming you know what they’re asking. And I’m a little peeved that I know exactly what the assumption is. idc
[70] nice arms or nice stomach: I like necks. Like, damn, especially since chokers are back in fashion now allllll of my attention is drawn to the neck.
[71] sensitive or loud: are you insinuating that loud people can’t be sensitive?
[72] hook up or relationship: neither here nor there
[73] troublemaker or hesitant: ???
HAVE YOU EVER…
[74] kissed a stranger? kinda
[75] drank hard liquor? yeeeeees (see earlier comment about Manhattans)
[76] lost glasses/contact lenses? kinda? I misplace my glasses all the time when I’m cooking
[77] turned someone down: yes

[89] angels? Coming from a scientific point of view, I know for certain that the probability of humans being the only advanced race out there is practically nil. Therefore, I have no right to say whether or not angels exist somewhere. I know my late-grandma always did, she prayed to them every morning.

Lesson 19: When Do I Start?
Summary Anna has to walk to work because the Metro is closed. She calls to tell her boss she is late. Ms. Weaver wants her to come and talk about a new assignment. What will Anna do?   Speaking Learn to pronounce the new words for this lesson and the months of the year. Learn about using which for offering choices and every or next with time words. Pronunciation In this video, learn how English speakers say the second month of the year. Conversation   Anna: Hi there! Summer in Washington, D.C. is hot and sunny. I always ride the Metro to work. Riding the Metro is cool and fast. But today it’s closed. So, I am walking to work.  (On the phone) Ms. Weaver, I am late this morning. The Metro is closed. So, I am walking to work.  Caty: That’s too bad. It’s really hot today. Anna: Yes it is. Caty: When you arrive, please come to my office. I have important news to tell you. Anna: Of course. Good-bye. My boss has news for me. The question is: Is it good news or bad news? (At work) Anna: Hello, Ms. Weaver. Caty: Anna, I have good news and I have bad news. Which do you want to hear first? Anna: The good news. No … okay, the bad news. Caty: The bad news is you are not good at reading the news. Anna: Oh. I am very sorry to hear that. Caty: So, starting next month you will not read the news. Anna: Next month is July. You are firing me in July. Caty: No. I am not firing you in July … or in August or in September. That is the good news. Anna: Okay. You are not firing me. I am not reading the news. What will I be doing? Caty: Well, you are good at asking questions. You are good at talking to people. You are good at showing your feelings. And you are great at being silly. Anna: Thank you, Ms. Weaver. But what does all that mean? Caty: I have a new assignment for you! Your skills are perfect for a new show … a children’s show. Anna: A children’s show ... That is awesome! When do I start? Caty: You start next month. Start thinking of ideas for the show. Anna: I have tons of ideas! I can show children what it’s like in outer space ... Caty: Great … Anna: … or in the deep, dark ocean … Caty: Those are great ideas, Anna. Please go think of more … at your desk. Anna: Yes. What other things can I show them? Mt. Everest!  Everyone has different skills. You have skills. I have skills. The important thing is to know what you are good at. Until next time!   Writing What are your skills? Do you use them at work or at school? Tell us about a couple of skills you have. Write to us by email or in the Comments section. Click on the image below to download the Activity Sheet and practice talking with a friend about what you do at different times of the year.   Learning Strategy Learning Strategies are the thoughts and actions that help make learning easier or more effective. The learning strategy for this lesson is Summarize. In this week's video, you hear Ms. Weaver tell Anna, "Well, you are good at asking questions. You are good at talking to people. You are good at showing your feelings. And you are great at being silly." Anna does not understand why Ms. Weaver is telling her about her skills. She asks, "But what does all that mean?" In answering the question, Ms. Weaver summarizes, "I have a new assignment for you! Your skills are perfect for a new show … a children’s show." When we summarize we tell a story or report on information in fewer words. We tell the most important information and do not include many details. Summarizing helps us remember new information and practice using new words.    How do you summarize when learning English? Write to us in the Comments section or send us an email. Teachers, see the Lesson Plan for more details on teaching this strategy.   Quiz Test your understanding by taking the listening quiz.
