Secondly, the hacked software cannot be upgraded and a license key might stop working when you connect to the Internet. Firstly, Adobe Flash CS3 cannot be upgraded anymore, you can only update Adobe Animate. Not only you won’t receive support from the developers, but you won’t also get the program updates. If you install an illegal, hacked version of the program on your PC, you will have absolutely no support from the developers in case you face some malfunctions or bugs. I advise you to use free animation software to avoid such risks. If you continue to use it, you will face a fine of several thousand dollars and even a prison term. It is the software suite that provides users with a complete environment where vector graphics can be developed and edited with the help of coding as well as drag and drop functions. In this case, you might receive a notification from the provider about illegal actions and you will be disconnected from the Internet. Adobe Animate is the latest version of the well-known tool Adobe Flash Professional.

Pixeltruss is here!
Posted by Tommislav on August 29, 2009
Hey!! Welcome to our brand new blog, and the very first post. This will be a brief introduction to who we are, what we do, and why. Lets take it in that order.
Who are / what is Pixeltruss?
Pixeltruss currently consits of two people:
Tommy Salomonsson (programmer, kind-of-project lead), and Simon Stålenhag (artist, musician, creative mind).
Together we have been making games together for almost three years now, and as we are getting close to the release of a new game (that has been in production for 1½ years now) we realized that we needed a brand where our collaborations could be published.
What do we do?
We make high quality flash games.
Our goal is to make games in flash that don’t feel like “flash”. Flash is a really great way to distribute games worldwide to a large audience (although its general reputation as gaming platform is a bit low, in my oppinion). It is also a great development tool for a small non-profit team since there are free open-source alternatives for the development (the flexSDK, flashDevelop and so on).
Why?
Why do we do it? We do it because we love games! It’s our passion!
This blog
And as we now have the pixeltruss domain as a common forum, this blog will be about the games we develop. It will be about our thoughts on game design, game programming, sprites, game sfx… you name it!
It will not be about what we had for dinner, or fashion ;-)

Tooth Decay: Post-mortem
Almost recovered from the rush of the weekend, here is the post-mortem of Tooth Decay, my entry for the 38th Ludum Dare. As always, I participated in the compo mode, and as always, I had a lot of fun.
Play it here!
Background
As usual, I tried to brainstorm some ideas with the final theme selection. This time I couldn’t spend long doing this but still managed to fill some pages of my notebook with ideas.
Eventually the theme was announced. I wasn’t particularly excited with it: I felt it might lead to a relatively narrow range of mechanics and/or settings (I’m guilty of this myself :D). However, there’s always an interesting idea you can come up (or any kind of idea, really), and if there’s anything sure is that people will surprise you with their own, so in the end it’s fine.
I kept brainstorming for a while, now focusing only on the final theme. One set of contradicting concepts I would have liked to explore was how communications and technology have managed to vastly expand a relatively small world (a tribe in prehistory, or a small town not so long ago…), but at the same time they have contributed to shrink it sometimes, reducing it to isolated bubbles of like-minded people. I wasn’t able to come up with interesting mechanics for either of the two, so I went for something more conventional. Below, more ideas for “a small world” :
By that time, one of my wisdom teeth started to hurt “BIGLY” -and has continued to do so without fault. That reminded me of an episode of one of my favourite cartoons when I was a kid, Once Upon a Time…Life (Fun Fact: if I hadn’t discovered video games I would have probably studied to become a doctor because of it). The episode in particular was about a bacterial colony excavating a cavity on a tooth.

I think my streptococci are way cuter.
The setting was perfect, and an obvious game mechanic immediately joined: drilling. Because of the time and constraints I went for something relatively simple and fun, and I remembered Mr Driller, a game by Namco where you…well, drill. I decided to use the same concept, and incorporate some base building mechanics (which unfortunately didn’t make it onto the game in the end), a la Steamworld Dig or a Flash game I found while looking for references: Motherload.
I had a solid idea, and it wasn’t even noon! I immediately opened FlashDevelop, created a new Haxeflixel project and started prototyping.
What went well
Clear vision.
Fast paced gameplay.
Modular design. Thanks to this compromising was easy and at the same time there’s a lot of room to expand it in different ways while staying loyal to the vision.
Main mechanics working relatively early.
Cluster-finding algorithm. To detect groups of tiles of the same type that can be drilled in one go and drop to the ground I used a two pass labelling algorithm, as depicted here and here. It was surprisingly easy to implement, and it worked like a charm (or almost, I think I’ve spotted an occasional bug).
Haxeflixel debugging console. This time I took a bit of time to research how to the in-game watch window and the command console quite a bit and I have to say it is quite powerful and helpful.
What went wrong
Art bottleneck. I spent more time than I should have coming up with an art style (pixel art? vector? what about “none of them”!?) and a decent set of concept references for the in-game screen and the overworld. I also added some animations to the main character, and even if it doesn’t have too many frames I’m still super slow at doing that.
Collision resolution + Camera management woes. I had to fight a bit with Haxeflixel, first to sort out some glitches handling player-tile collisions, and then to get my two cameras (one for the HUD, one for the board) to render properly. I could have probably been able to work with a single camera setup, but as the map had an X-offset and applying it to the whole scene isn’t trivial I’ve found that using a camera works fine…once you manage to set them up correctly. I lost a good couple of hours with this.
Dropped working-ish feature. On Saturday night, right after I implemented the clustering algorithm, I quickly hacked tile shaking and dropping once a tile’s cluster becomes disconnected from the ground. It was working, but drove performance to the ground and it was quite late at night, so I decided to. In hindsight this was probably a good decision, but I would have liked to see it in the submitted entry.
No resource management / upgrade system. What can I say here…good old lack of time.
No time for sounds. Eeer….the same.
Lessons learned
Keep a stock of Nolotil pills available on my cabinet for emergencies. Paracetamol just doesn’t cut it T_T
Improve the art pipeline! Practice, practice, practice.
Start exploring alternatives to Haxeflixel: While the framework is simple and powerful, from time to time I keep finding some issues with relatively straightforward features that have me fighting against it more than they help me save time. To tell the truth, most engines and frameworks have their own peculiarities, so eventually you’re bound to bump against something that works in a different way than you expected regardless of which technology you choose.
Defined the task list for a post-compo version!: Check it here

How unity improved the workflow and development time
Hi everyone :)
enough of product related posts lately right? it’s time for some devlog post :)
I’m a open source guy. Whenever i can use open source for something, it’s my first option. This is not why i want everything for free, it’s a philosophy and long term planning reason. Open Source never dies, you never lost “support” why in the worst case scenario, you can grab the code yourself and keep using it, updating, adapting to your needs. This is my first reason to use open source software. The freedom that i’m not tied to a future of a company to keep my projects up and running (actual and future ones). When i started doing games, flash was the main platform. Of course was not open source, but it was easy to use, fast, you could use flashdevelop to use an IDE only environment and the flash studio to make the animations. Oh, those where the good times. When flash started to die, well, i was in a predicament, as i was not good with editor environments (like unity has) and i don’t wanted to face the learning curve of learning a new language, editor, controls etc..
For that reason i started to use haxe / openfl, that was the open source replacement of AS3 / flash. I could use the same language syntax and the same IDE, and i was happy. Don’t get me wrong, haxe & openfl are awesome platforms, i’m even contributor on some code for extensions and addons on it. I made 2 games on it plus i have a very complex app unreleased that is made on it too. But this year i tried to improve my development times. Coding a game on haxe / openfl, even the simplest one it will not take me less than 2 months. i needed to get things faster, better. There wasn’t much ready to use in the open source world that would surpass openfl / haxe. I know about ogre 3d, illricht, game maker, construct, kha, no one of this would improve the workflow. Another goal was to make the transition to 3D, this would solve most probably one of the problems in the development, that was the creation and adapting the 2D assets to all resolutions, and get it into the code. Godot was a good option, is even made by a Juan, someone i know personally. In the end, i decided to go with Unity, for the support, but mostly anything, for the asset store support. The main objective was to improve the development time. I love to code, but my objective is to make games, not engines or extensions. With unity and very very little money, i could have ready to use code, like a FPS engine, or a tabletop to adapt or modify, or a social media extension ready to use for $10. Plus models and assets that can be easily imported and modified at my needs. When i started, godot didn’t had this, so i bet into going with the all popular option.
I released 2 projects so far. For someone that is not familiar with an editor, the transition was not easy. understanding the logic of “attaching” scripts to objects, wasn't easy either. But i started using a ready to use isometric engine for Dumb Zombies Commander helped me a lot to understand the structure of everything, how collision works, how instantiate elements works, how to interact between scenes, etc..
The latest project, 5 Shapes was made from 0, with no pre-made code nor assets, applying what i learned the first time. It was made in a week. It is a simple game, but the development time was so fast, i can’t believe it (do the builds, screenshots, video and marketing took me more time than the game itself :P ).
For one part i regret not making the change earlier, for the reason of not wanting to face the time to learn a new platform, but on the other side, i had to implement some knowledge i learned with openfl / haxe into unity, mostly in 2 critical parts, the alignment of 2D elements on all resolutions (unity doesn’t handle this as it should) and the android / ios build process (unity packages from the assets store doesn’t give a shit about others packages, so you can easily end up with duplicate libraries in the project, that would broke completely the build process. if you don’t know the internals, you will never figure out this...)
And that’s all my friends. I hope my experience will help others developers on a similiar situation ! Don’t be afraid to change !

As announced I begin to write articles cycle: How to start develop Flash games.
Last 5-6 years our studio released about 40 games a lot of cloned but more then 10 of different kinds. All the ActionScript 2 and 3 code in all but one games I've written by myself somehow. I was trying to engage a lot of developers but didn't managed. It was Flex Enterprise, Flash IDE, serverside PHP/db programmers, enterprise Java, low level C++ and so on but no way.
They received from me as3 gamedev jumpin pack:
1. Getting Started with FlashDevelop
2. as3 with FlashDevelop overview
3. My presentation «Flash Games with Freeware» and a sample game/tech demo for FlashGAMM #2 meeting. There are also a lot of useful materials about Flash games development.Altogether here at FlashDevelop Forums
4. Jumpin J game source code and also at FlashDevelop Forums
The task was simple to set up development environment and compile the game. Strange but no one did it. I don't know why and what was my mistake.
Happily a week ago I've given this task to my friend who was looking for some season work. He is not a programmer and don't have technical diploma degree but he's easily managed the task ^) Actually I wasn't ready to it and didn't have the next task prepared. So I've googled and found suitable tutorial: Creating a Asteroids Flash Game Part 1: Setting up FlashDevelop and Planning
A week later after some questions on Flash/ActionScript specifics like Sprite, stage and //entry point in a new as3 project he managed to build a game and make some changes on graphics.
So now he is reading Colin Moock's Essential ActionScript 3.0, O'Reilly, 2007 book that I'll review later on to get in development process.
And I've modified 8bitrocket's essential game framework The Essential Guide To Flash Games book and made commercial game on it also will write about in the next posts when the game releases. Going to use it for the second game as second game theory from the book advices and attach new team members to the process: one friend who already passed the tutorial and the other who is going to try and made me to write this article finally.

Haxe Roundup 171
The OpenFL team Introduces OpenFL Member Accounts. The new membership currently has three levels, Indie, Pro and Enterprise.
Indie "allows access to the premium SWF library", Pro get access to the "new In-App Purchase & GameCenter extensions" with all future releases and "limited direct email support". Enterprise membership provides "training, consulting and building the roads to accelerate your growth".
Proletariat Inc have published How to use Haxe with Unity: HUGS, their open-source library for maximum cross platform awesome. It continues on from their previous post on why they chose to use Haxe and Unity together.
Martin Jonasson / Grapefrukt has released to the masses his OpenFL-PSM library, which was used to build Rymdkapsel for Playstation Mobile.
FlashDevelop latest dev build 4.5 has been released and it includes loads of Haxe and OpenFL improvements. And for those who are more adventurous, FlashDevelop now has CI builds!
The latest CI build should also have support for the new and in-progress Haxe C++ / HXCPP debugger. It's not a simple download and everything will be hunky dory, it's more involved than that so follow the instructions!
Andy Moore has written about a "gotcha" he stumbled across, Haxe and Float initialization. This problem looks like it will be addressed/fixed soon and available in a nightly build.
The part about unfriendly Haxer's is surprising. Unfortunately it's the few twit's that leave an impression, who ever they are. IMHO the majority of Haxer's are extremely friendly and helpful. It sounds like a proven fact, but it's not, take a look at the irc logs and search for Capn_Andy for the beginning of the convo to form your own opinion.
Going back to nightly builds, Cauê now has the build server producing Mac builds which should be 10.5 compatible. Windows, Mac and Linux builds all compiling from a Linux server. True cross compiling to the core ;).
Elements - an interactive installation by Britzpetermann. Awesome as usual and a great way to finish the roundup.
