A lot of people ask why I chose a bat as my "mascot." It’s true that I think bats are adorable, but it was the symbolism that really captured my heart. There’s a whimsical duality to the way bats are represented around the world. Depending on the culture, a bat can be seen as unlucky or an ill-tiding, but they’re also used to symbolize happiness and creativity. To me, that duality is also true of artwork -- two people can look at the same piece of artwork and interpret it in two different ways. I think that’s super neat!
So why the term “flittermouse?” Because I'm a word-nerd!
"Flittermouse" is a Victorian-era word. It’s sadly fallen out of fashion in the English-speaking world, but you can still see it reflected in other modern languages (such as the German "Fledermaus"). There are many variations from back in the day, including flickermouse, flindermouse, and fluttermouse ... but since I tend to "flitter" from project to project, "flittermouse" seemed like the most appropriate variant.
