I see your art of TdV come up on my dash every now and then because I follow the tag, and I absolutely LOVE it. It's just reminding me that I gotta re-watch it again (for the millionth time LOL.) But I have a question for you too! Do you have a favorite Graf? 👀
Aaaaah glad you enjoy them!! (also brainwashing myself with it currently)
And as for a fav Graf, first, respect to any actor that can pull this character off. My first Graf is Florian Soyka and I like Mathias (saw his last show in Stuttgart so cute) Drew and Marx are sooo unique...I just watched Kevin's last show in Stuttgart and am still super hyped (he's sooooo gooood) so now the answer would be Kevin Tarte. Also because I have a thing for old sounding/looking Graf. (the way he strolled and kneeled and looked worn out in Die Unstillbare Gier is just mmmmmmmmh so good)

Nobody asked but I wanted to dissect Michael Heller’s performance as Alfred in this clip: Alfred is not afraid of Krolock
In Sie irren Professor, Krolock explains to Prof Abronsius and Alfred that “What one studies, once must become” This isn’t an invitation, this is fact, this is going to happen. Naturally fear would be the response to this very ‘unfortunate’ fate.
From what I’ve seen from other performances (Anton Zetterholm) Alfred is absolutely terrified, hiding behind the professor, and looks very physically uncomfortable when Krolock speaks.
Krolock asks “What are you fleeing from,” But then asks Alfred directly “What do you fear, Alfred”
And when Prof Abronsius says “he will fight you”
Krolock replies with (direct translation) “you’re wrong professor, Alfred’s soul belongs to me”
I never understood these lines. These lines indicate that there is something intimate (not sexually obviously) but some sort of connection between Alfred and Krolock.
Alfred’s response to this connection is fear, uncomfortability, and the clear desire to want to escape. When he bumps into the professor, he is absolutely terrified, raising the bag as a weapon, and heaving in relief upon realizing that it’s only the professor- not the vampire that is dangerous and going to bite him
NOW, Micheal’s performance
When Krolock asks Alfred what he fears, instead of an uncomfortability we can see Alfred’s face contort to confusion before he is spooked by the Count’s moving voice. It’s almost as if Krolock’s words were not meant as a taunt, but rather an actual question, in which Alfred was trying to form an answer to. Or, at least, Alfred interpreted the taunt as a question.
When Krolock Explains “What you search, you’ll only find here” Alfred’s face yet again, falls into thought and he actually takes a step forward. He is snapped out of his daze only when the Professor puts a hand on his shoulder to pull him back.
When Professor Abronsius replies that Alfred will fight Krolock, Alfred throws up an emptyminded fist under the Professor’s arm, hearing the Professor’s words-but is lost in his own train of thought.
And when Krolock speaks “you’re wrong professor”
Alfred does not run away, he calmly walks away, as if searching for Krolock’s voice instead of trying to flee from it. And when Alfred slowly walks backwards, his back straight, calm, (not at all hunching in a defensive position) When he bumps into the professor he holds the bag out in reaction, yet in no way raises it or moves it into a ‘ready to attack’ way
But the dinger- the absolute cherry on top, is when Alfred notices the coffins
“God Almighty” his voice breaks, he gulps, he is terrified. In no way, shape, or form did he show this kind of fear towards Krolock.
With Michael’s performance, you can see how, though Krolock is dangerous, evil, Alfred is drawn to him.
Alfred is truthfully frightened, but is not actually afraid. He does not have fear towards Krolock, rather a fascination, sprouted from a sort of longing, curiosity, etc
He is curious, and this curiosity is the same/similar emotion in which Sarah was drawn to Krolock. Sarah knew that with Krolock her death would come, the price of ‘freedom’- but she invited it in; she wanted it. Alfred behaves in the same way, though if he probably thought about it, he would deny it, or not understand his feelings.
You can see by his reactions, that he is subconsciously drawn, inviting whatever fate Krolock will gift him, unbeknownst to even himself. And with this, he is not actually- truthfully afraid of the Count himself.
All and All it makes sense why Krolock directly spoke to Alfred in the song. And the line that “Alfred’s Soul Belongs to me” because Krolock knows, what Alfred doesn’t^^
Anyway this got long- just observations what do you guys think? Did I dive too far into this? Prolly did oh well. Anyway I really like Florian Soyka as Krolock- topic for another day

Totale Finsternis, Tanz der Vampire
Florian Soyka as Korlock & Myrthes Monteiro as Sarah

This count really is infatuated against his own better judgement.
