Cedar-apple rust (Gymnosporangium juniperi-virginianae) This fungus has a life cycle just as unusual as its appearance. Beginning on cedar trees as a gall (the central piece pictured here) it waits for the first warm rain of the spring. The rains prep the spore horns (the orange jelly looking things) to do their work and release spores to nearby apple trees. Well this was some effort creating this. To most a innocent image of a daffodil. To those that can appreciate it, it’s a 50 image focus stack. Blended using Helicon focus. What more impressive is the actual rendering took less than a minute on my new maxed out iMac. My last iMac I could barley even get the program to run and when it did I took hours. I really want to play around more with focus stacking.
