C U R R E N T. P R O J E C T . I've been working on some new paint colours. Some are boggling my mind. A colour I made before came out as a completely different colour yesterday 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything different. Instead of blue I got dark green. More experiments needed there I think! . I found out yesterday that I won't be taking part in the annual Crouch End Open Studios because of something called.....Coronavirus? 🤦🏻‍♀️ great, thanks Coronavirus/the media/panic stricken people. This was my main current project but I do have other projects coming up. I'll save that information for another time. . I'll be trying my hand at a few slightly different pieces too. If COVID-19 decides children aren't going to school I'll probably have much more free time on my hands and painting a lot....unlike those of you that have children, not teach children, sorry guys! . #marchmeetthemaker #marchmeetthemaker2020 #dayfourteen #currentproject #artwork #newproject #coronavirusbuggeroff #naturalpigment #foragingforcolour #girlsinmuseums #artcriticlondon (at Harringay) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9up2puHQrK/?igshid=16522muqq1dzr

O N L Y. O N E. E A R T H The 2022 World Environment Day campaign #OnlyOneEarth calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet. “In our galaxy are billions of planets, But there is Only One Earth.” Here I am in my studio trying to do what I can to make a change for the good of our planet. All the watercolours I use in my work are handmade by me using foraged rocks. I only use vegan binders and ingredients when I make my paints. Although I may only be making a small difference, it’s the power of collectivity that can make big changes. Be conscious of what you buy, what you do and how you live your life. We can make a difference together. #onlyoneearth #worldenvironmantday2022 #unep #veganart #veganartist #bekind #bekindtoourplanet #beconcious #conciousliving #sustainableart #sustainability #makeadifference #collectiveconsciousness #handmadewatercolours #foragedearth #foragingforcolour #lisapriceart #lisamarieprice Many thanks to Yap Yen for taking this photo of me in my studio @helloepiphany (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeblqpYIMgi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

C H A N G E This painting ‘Blue Sky Thinking’ is being exhibited @508_gallery with @bobcatgallery The exhibition opens tomorrow. If you’d like to come to the PV you can find the link on my bio. This painting was created using a handmade copper acetate; which consists of vinegar, copper scraps, salt and a lot of patience! This type of colour isn’t as stable as earth pigments and can change in appearance over time. This has never actually happened to me before…until I went to package this one up for the exhibition! Swipe to see the difference between the colour changes. Personally I’m quite fond of the changes that have occurred and I’m always very open about this possibility of colour change. Especially with the blues / greens made using copper acetate. It’s the first time I’ve used this colour on wood so maybe it was reacting with that? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Which version do you prefer? And does this colour change horrify you or intrigue you? #lightfastness #fugitivecolour #bluepaint #artexhibition #artgallerylondon #artexhibitionlondon #artopencall #watercolouronwood #silverleaf #abstractpaibter #privateview #artforsale #londonartist #abstractartist #foragingforcolour #handmadecolour #handmadewatercolour (at 508 Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZHS2pNIvd3/?utm_medium=tumblr

F O R. S A L E Next up on my #artistsupportpledge works for sale is this vibrant green framed painting. The paint for this piece is made with handmade copper acetate. To make this colour I mix copper scraps, salt and white vinegar and leave it for 4-6 weeks for the liquid to react with the copper. When the liquid has crystallised I use the powder to create the watercolour. Mini Series #02 £120 (P&P) 21cm x 23cm Framed (UV glass) Please DM me if you’d like more photos or to buy. S I L V E R. L E A F I just had to embellish this painting with a bit of silver leaf. I couldn’t help myself. I had a little trip to @l.cornelissen_and_son not long ago and the staff were so helpful…it did mean I probably ended up buying too much stuff though. The silver leaf being one of them. It’s trickier to use on wood than paper but I think it finishes this painting off nicely. What do you think? #silverleaf #cornellisons #cornellisonslondon #embelishment #abstractpainting #508gallery #delphianopencall #abstractartist #artexhibition #newyear #first2022exhibition #2022 #watercolouronwood #foragingforcolour #lisamarieprice #londonartist #blueskythinking (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXDliPFg_pf/?utm_medium=tumblr

B L U E Finding a blue pigment in nature is tricky, especially in the UK, so I was over the moon to find this baby blue pigment on a little remote beach called Kintra on Isle of Mull. It has completely baffled me though. I think that *maybe* it might be a type of iron reduction in waterlogged soil. But. I mean, im no geologist and my science is pretty crappy. A few pigment/geologist people that I’ve asked don’t like to say what it might be without doing a sample test but honestly, any educated ideas are very welcome. The photos are very true to colour. Regardless, I’m so thrilled with this fabulous colour! Swipe to see the original rock/soil find and to see it crushed into powder form. This pigment feels pretty precious as I don’t have much of it so I need to think carefully about how I use it! #pigment #bluepigment #babyblue #rocks #reduction #artistspigment #foragingforcolour #geology #geologistsadviceneeded #soilreduction #thecolourblue #blue #bluewatercolour #naturalwatercolours #handmadepaint (at Kintra) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVaq1VisMFn/?utm_medium=tumblr

P R O C E S S It’s been a busy Monday morning processing a backlog of earth pigments. Inspired by @londonpigment latest post I thought I’d share a snap shot of my latest pigments. I’ll be washing some of them this afternoon and mulling the others into watercolour ready for new work. Thanks @jamie_eade_art and @frenchiebme for gifting me a new pestle and mortar! It’s a brilliant addition to my ever growing collection. #artistatwork #process #pestleandmortar #artiststufio #artiststools #naturalwatercolour #naturalpigment #handmadewatercolour #foragingforcolour #findcolour #londonartist #artforsale #artcollectors #artworld #naturespalette #londonartist #painting #abstractpainting #abstractartist #londonartexhibition (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVLDvleoO6M/?utm_medium=tumblr

B E A C H. C O M B I N G Our holiday is almost up. We’ve had the best time. I really needed some time away. I can only apologise for my holiday spam on my stories the past few weeks but I had to share how much I love this area of Scotland. It’s definitely my happy place. Here are some of my treasures I’ve found over the course of our holiday. Yesterday we had glorious sunshine and enjoyed a bit of beach combing. I collected a few extra things for family and other artists who I know will appreciate these little gems. I am always conscious of what I forage, how much I take and from where. It is important to respect your surroundings and the other wildlife that might need it. Have you ever done any beach combing? What’s your ultimate find? #beachcombing #foraging #foragingforcolour #responsiblecollecting #respectyourenvironment #scottishbeaches #explorescotland #getoutside #enjoynature #londonartistinscotland #scotland (at Dornoch) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTm3gQjI61O/?utm_medium=tumblr

C O L L E C T I N G I think I’ve always had a thing for collecting. When I was younger I had some bizarre collections. From ornamental salt n pepper shakers to baby snails (sorry snails 😬). I loved how they all looked together and the hunt for the next find. Things clearly haven’t changed all that much. Almost 30 years on and now I have an unstoppable obsession with collecting rocks. But, unlike when I was little, these collections have much more of a purpose! Each rock I collect will be made into watercolour for my paintings. I only ever take very small samples and I am definitely getting better at recognising what rock will make a good colour or not. These are the rocks I collected yesterday on my beach walk in the western highlands. This part of Scotland is new for me and I love seeing the variations in colour palettes from other regions. Did you ever collect anything? Or maybe you still do? Tell me in the comments so I don’t feel like such a geek please 😜 #collecting #collections #collectingforpurpose #collectingforfun #colourpalette #naturalpigments #earthpigments #foragingforcolour #geekgirl #londonartistinscotland #londonartist #naturelover #highlands #westernhighlands #badenscallie #achiltibuie #herefortgestills (at Achiltibuie) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTXRzdAoCcL/?utm_medium=tumblr

C O L O U R Creating my own watercolours continues to fascinate and excite me. These two colours are the pigments used in my painting The Divide. The black/grey is a slate that was foraged in Scotland and the yellow ochre was given to me by a client from her local beach in Wales. The process of making really ties my work to nature and myself to the colours I use. Before I have even painted with them they hold memories and tell stories. What is your favourite colour? Have you ever thought about where you could find this colour in Nature? I will be heading off to Scotland again soon and can’t wait to explore a brand new landscape, filled with colour and history. #artistatwork #artiststufio #artiststools #naturalwatercolour #naturalpigment #handmadewatercolour #foragingforcolour #findcolour #londonartist #marchmeetthemaker #artforsale #artcollectors #artworld #naturespalette #londonartist #painting #abstractpainting #abstractartist #ceopenstudios2021 #arttrail #londonarttrail #londonartexhibition (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS_XTAqs3R_/?utm_medium=tumblr

P R O G R E S S This is the last update for now on this new painting. It’s taking a long time to dot and I’m still working on the left hand side. It’ll be a bit of time I think before I can show you the finished painting. Swipe for a close up 👉🏼 I am really enjoying creating this piece and the time spent working on it is very fluid and mediative. Lots of podcasts and audible books will be keeping me company while I continue to paint this. Any recommendations for new listens always welcome, drop them in the comments 👇🏼. I’m currently alternating between Dead Eyes podcast (thanks @angiepet) and The Other Black Girl audiobook. I’ll pop some more progress shots in my stories soon, keep your eyes peeled 👀 #progresspainting #paintinginprogress #blackandyellow #earthpigments #ochrepigment #pigmentsrevealedsymposium #delphianopencall #foragingforcolour #londonartist #femalepainter #newpainting #blackabstractart #yellowabstractart #northlondon #handmadewatercolour #naturalcolour #artforyourwalls #veganpainter #veganartist #newartwork (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQUNNr2Hhsm/?utm_medium=tumblr

J O U R N E Y Last week I showed you how I make my paint and the processes I take to be able to use my watercolour. Today I’m sharing a new painting I have started using the paint I made in my previous posts. It’s made from pigment I found on the street I live on and documents the journeys I take in my everyday life. This walk is a combination of a few walks back at the start of the new year. Despite this new year getting off to a bumpy start I’m finally starting to feel a shift and hopeful for change to come. Maybe my journeys will stretch further than a 5 mile radius around my home! What journeys are you planning for when restrictions ease? #journeys #newstart #movement #itsallpartoftheprocess #handmadepaint #handmadewatercolour #pigmentprocess #studioshot #artistinaction #naturalwatercolour #naturalpaint #artistatwork #londonartist #paintmaking #veganartist #sustainablepractice #sustainableart #sustainableartist #foragingforcolour #artworkinprogress #originalartwork #artforinteriors #artforhomes #buyartwork #collectingart #artwatchers (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNAKCHMHtGU/?igshid=4tk23bebohv6

P A I N T It’s time to make more paint in the studio today. The great thing about making your own paint is if you run out you can just make more! This is how my paint process starts out. I break the larger rocks down to smaller chunks (normally with a hammer which is great fun!) and then using my pestle and mortar I crush this into a fine grain before I can mull it into watercolour. I’ll share more on this tomorrow but for now I’m off the grind some more pigment. O V E R B U R D E N Long post warning!! 😉 (when are they not with me?!) Back to my art….I think I have exhausted everyone’s generosity and patience with my attempt to put the art world to rights about experimenting with the limits of virtual exhibitions. Thank you to all of you that gave me so much inspiration and took time to give feedback on my last couple of posts! I have a few plans up my sleeve, watch this space! This painting is the newest piece I have been working on. It’s been a bit of a stop/start kind of painting. I have been adding layers and working into it over a little bit of time now. It is the first watercolour painting I have done onto a canvas (made especially for watercolours). I am slowly getting to grips with the difference in materials and the good thing about the canvas is that it allows much more time for the watercolour to dry and it’s also easier to add layers without damaging the paper or the paper buckling. This pigment is from a subscription I am signed up to with @wildpigmentproject called Ground Bright. Tilke works with pigment foragers, like me, who have a passion for sharing the beautiful colours, history and origins of our land. 22% of all subscriptions go to supporting land and cultural stewardship, chosen by that months contributor. It’s a great project so do check it out! (Link in @wildpigmentproject bio) I was surprised when I made this colour that it was this gorgeous, deep dark grey colour as it is made from a copper. Normally I associate copper with green, blues and reds but this time its grey! I love the uncertainty and variety of each pigment, they are always showing me something new. If you are interested to see how this piece comes along, do follow me if you don’t already, I will be sharing updates on my stories and posts. What do you think of this colour? #naturalpigments #naturescolour #londonartist #foragingforcolour #groundbright #arcticwildliferefuge #ninaelder #naturalpigments #wildpigments #pigmentsofplace #pigment #makepaint #azurite #malachite #artistspigments #historicalpigments #groundbright #minedpigments #copperore (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLbqXtJnxD5/?igshid=1qai4ns4v6x60
