#currentproject is Stanley, my giant house sparrow. Well he is not really giant as he is the size of my palm but that is big for me! I have grown to love him and am constantly looking in my front garden to check the colours are right. He needs just a little more definition with black silk and I think he will be done very soon. #marchmeetthemaker #meetthemaker #marchmeetthemaker2020 #threadpainting #needlepainting #birdart #embroideryisart #housesparrow #silkshadingembroidery #becreativemagazine #heytheremaker #dmcthreads @joannehawker https://www.instagram.com/p/B9tAXnWj0DI/?igshid=1kxt08w9jvlth

Today’s prompt is: favorite make. I’m by no means a purist. I think sticking with one thing is kind of boring, and also repetitive strain injuries are no fun, so it’s important to mix it up. All of my work is centered around my painting and handmade watercolor, though. I also make some sculpture, prints, installation, hand-pulled cards, and jewelry (which is all discounted in my shop as I prepare for my next release!). From @carragh_amos • • • • • • Singapore L O V E T O M A K E ▫️ 8. . I'm only a week into March Meet the Maker and I'm already sick of talking about myself 😅 Thank god today's theme is 'Love to make'! . . It's probably no surprise that Kurinuki is currently my favourite technique. It's a Japanese method of hollowing out a single block of clay to reveal the form. In fact, kuri-nuki translates to "carving out". . . My BFAHons was primarily sculpture and I find reductive working through the Kurinuki process very sculptural. It forces me to go slow which is quite calming, and I like that it creates results that surprise me. This video covers about 1 hr of work. . . I taught myself this skill after doing some research online just last year, so my version is some kind of mutated adaptation of the original Japanese process that I've found works for my style (ie. it would be disrespectful to claim I do true 'Japanese Kurinuki'). Next time I visit Japan I would love to take a traditional Kurinuki class! . . #MarchMeetTheMaker #MarchMeetTheMaker2020 #potterymaking #pottery #ceramics #handmade #art #craft #potteryvideo #potteryvideos #instapottery #pottersofinstagram #texture #carving #carved https://www.instagram.com/p/B9sLe5yh4pR/?igshid=qb53pmmq01is

Today’s #marchmeetthemaker2020 is a topic I’m just not comfortable with, branding. I don’t really fancy myself as a producer of a product (even though I do) so it’s hard for me to grasp the concept for my work. I am an artist and try to speak with my work. The story might be contained all on one piece or may be a sentence in a grand novel that spans many pieces over years of production. I mean how do you brand that? But I do have a few things that appear on a regular basis, like skullopus, possumrat and my self portrait. I don’t even know where to go with this write up about branding. What is branding? How do you brand an artist? Anyone want to give me some tips and tricks? Cause this old dog is just confused. #marchmeetthemakerday4 #clay #skull #possumrat #skullopus #pottery #stickers https://www.instagram.com/p/B9UXdoHAXIj/?igshid=xus248azftwb

March Meet the Maker 3/5: Close up This is a close up picture of my Espurresso plush from the Purrista Pawfee line of coffee themed cats. Espurresso is super catfeinated as shown by his frenetic fur and the large eyes with stars in them. I'm not sure that many people notice that detail, even those who own one! :) #kimchikawaii #marchmeetthemaker2020 #marchmeetthemaker #coffeelovers #espresso #coffeelife #kittycat #kawaiiart #originalcharacter #plush (at Davis, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9W3JdhlfvY/?igshid=zt75xz145vs7

Work/Life Balance Day 30, Work/Life Balance: It is a challenge to have an art business, since I work at home. I have kids, pets, a husband and a home to maintain, along with my art and business, all under one roof. I have to get creative with managing my time around family, and making art and managing a freelance art business. But, working from home has benefits. I’m around if my kids need me, sometimes my kids like to help in the business, I can work at any time of day, I can go on work field trips, I can have classes on line or in person, I can meet with clients and other artists for lunch or for coffee, and I can create art everyday! This or that? I am rarely indecisive. If I don't care, then I don't give it any thought; if I do care, I know what I want. I have been practicing for years to get what I want without inconveniencing anyone. I am very flexible and also quite rigid. The trick is knowing which to be! I’m not quite so lean now—I lost extra before my fall trip. #marchmeetthemaker2020 #makersmovement #maker #marchmeetthemaker #makersgonnamake #makersofinstagram #indiedesigners #knitweardesigner #knitwearfashion #fashionknit #fashionknitwear #passionknit #passionfashionknits https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Qu3lmJVtQ/?igshid=15z1eia17t6pt

#marchmeetthemaker 'future goals' at the moment no one knows what the future holds for any of us which is possibly a good thing. I think the future goals of everyone at the moment is to get through this nightmare of a situation we all find ourselves in. Beyond that, to get back to selling at craft fairs which I am missing far more than I thought I would! #marchmeetthemakerday27 #marchmeetthemaker2020 #366days day 87, #zoknitandsew #craftstall #craftfairseller #handmadebusinessowner #handmadebusiness https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Po-G6F10E/?igshid=7zy8jxnh7s40

Last day of #marchmeetthemaker is #FAQ. One question that I am asked constantly is, how do I finish off my jewellery so neatly? I ALWAYS stitch my finished pieces to a form before attaching it to the setting. Some have inserts already, others I have to cut myself to fit. I gather the excess fabric around the embroidery with a running stitch, then lace the back. Full instructions with step by step photos in my book. Which brings me neatly to the #selfpromotion I didn't do on Sunday! Oh yes, this is a two for one post. 🤣 🤣 Thank you to @joannehawker for the prompts this year. #marchmeetthemaker2020 #meetthemaker #embroideredjewellery #embroideredjewelry https://www.instagram.com/p/B-ZPYMtgzQ8/?igshid=14iro36p8wv4a

This little lacewing flew off to Australia a year ago. So much of my work has ended up there. I was relieved to read that after more than 240 days, the wildfires have died down in New South Whales. My heart aches for what the people and the animals affected by these traumatic wildfires went through. I thought and still think of you all every day and I shed a lot of tears. I feel helpless during these tragedies. Over a billion animals, birds, and reptiles are thought to have perished. This is devastating. 🇦🇺 . . . . .#artwork #lacewing #lacewinginsect #insects #insectart #australia #marchmeetthemaker2020 #meetthemaker #meettheartist #kalamazoo #tarantula #tarantulaart (at Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9W0FsiHiEt/?igshid=1hbkybfv0ncb4

There are a lot of virtual artist alleys right now in light of the con season being canceled AND its #marchmeetthemaker so I figure it's a good time to introduce myself. My name is Sara, I'm a bird mom, yoga teacher, and librarian. I make creepy cute ink art and sometimes I make little toys. 🌿🖤 #marchmeetthemaker2020 #meetthemaker #meetthemaker2020 #artvsartist #artvsartist2020 #meettheartist #artistintro #artistintroduction #virtualartistalley https://www.instagram.com/p/B9vSSKqp0nH/?igshid=17g8q689n09sq

When you try to push boundaries you always will face the dreaded learning curve, and I love them. There is just something about facing a problem and persevering until it’s solved. The sense of satisfaction that comes from success after multiple failures is one of the greatest feelings. I know these photos don’t look like much learning took place, and well it didn’t, but it is the end result of learning. I try to impress upon those I teach to always try and if you fail, learn from it. Nothing is ever gained by staying in the same place. You never grow if you don’t face challenges and strive to overcome them. Many take my advice and run with it and are always amazed at what they create. So go ahead and have the strength to fail, you will grow so much more. #marchmeetthemaker #marchmeetthemaker2020 #learningcurve #fail #success #clay #pottery #wheelthrown #bodyparts #bottle #workinprogressart #ceramicart #clayart (at Gulfport, Mississippi) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9o1-UqgDGZ/?igshid=taw8tgrc2bav

March Meet the Maker: 3/4 Branding. It took me an embarrassingly long time to do an actual logo for my business. I updated it somewhat recently and make a color pallet as well. My brand name, Kimchi Kawaii reflects me and the things I do. I'm a Korean girl who draws stuff in the cute (kawaii) Japanese style. My mascot/logo is a Korean tiger which features in traditional Korean art. His name has been Roary for many years, but I'm actually thinking of changing it to Holang-i which is just tiger in Korean. I use him for messages regarding the business and stuff on my website. The sad version shown here is from my 404 page when a link is broken. And I dream of making a plush of him soon as well :) #kimchikawaii #koreantiger #korean #marchmeetthemaker2020 #marchmeetthemaker (at Davis, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9USjwZFLm_/?igshid=1vvssub9wdzm9
