Oh look, nothing makes sense anymore. The rules of physics need not apply.

Is it a portal into another dimension? Is it a full-length mirror for mermaids? Is it rising out of the water, or sinking into it? I guess we’ll never know.

Oh hi there, cute green island, maybe I’ll visit sometim—oh, wait, what’s that unwholesome darkness? Nope. Nope nope nope nope.

Oooh I like my city art dank and eerie like it’s 2019. How many people are we looking at here that we can’t see?

Today is the second anniversary of the creation of wallacepolsom.com, and I must say, although I definitely enjoyed my first year here on Tumblr, the second has surpassed it in every way that counts.
Since September 2016, my major focus has been twofold: 1) to achieve a decent level of productivity on the collage front, and 2) to make an effort to hold out a hand of friendship to other collage artists here on tumblr. Since a major stumbling block for me has always been a tendency towards introversion, perfectionism, and paralysis, I decided early on that I would post pretty much every image that I brought to completion -- in the first six months of this year, I posted an image a day, on average -- though I knew full well that the resulting body of work would display significant variability in terms of quality. And as a psychological tactic to justify the variability to myself, I have tried to think of this site not as a professional online portfolio but rather as an ongoing record of visual, thematic, and other ideas that I have come at from various angles, all of which seemed to me to be worth pursuing in the moment.
Now, even though I have been stuck in a bit of a motivational trough this summer -- the unrelenting heat in July and a painful arm strain in mid-August that is only now in the process of resolving itself did not help -- I say, even though I have been stuck in the doldrums this summer, I definitely feel that the above approach has worked well for me, i.e., that I not only have been as productive as it is possible for me to be over the past twelve months but also have produced enough good work to justify the midling and bad work that I have posted. But really, since I am not interested in courting galleries or art directors or collectors or whatever, the haphazard state of my online presence has had zero discernable negative consequences for me. On the contrary. I have unexpectedly sold a number of prints (and other merchandise) via my neglected online stores, the profit from which has helped me to pay the ongoing costs associated with my various websites. (I am still losing money, however!) I have exchanged private messages of advice and encouragement with more than a dozen friendly artists and appreciators of art, and have maintained an ongoing conversation with a couple of them. I have collaborated with my newish friend and colleague, Annalynn Hammond, on eight cut-and-paste collages, one of which caught the eye of an indy band that paid to use it to promote one of their tracks. (Thanks, Annalynn, for handling the negotiations!) And so on.
Anyway...
Once again, same as last year, I want to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who has ever liked or reblogged or commented on one of my collages (or instant photographs), and if you reblogged one or more of my images and you left my captions intact, you are a goddamn saint in my eyes!
And for various reasons, all of them positive, special thanks to the following people/blogs:

Starred entries above are the Tumblrs of visual artists at various stages of their careers who generously share their work and ideas online. And just so you know, if you are on my list and want off, all you need to do is to contact me via Tumblr chat, and I will delete the link to your site with no hard feelings, or if you think you have been a staunch supporter and that I have forgotten you, which is entirely possible (!), contact me same as above and I will happily add a link to your site free of charge.
With best wishes to one and all, Wallace
P.S. I have included the JPEG of a portion of my Tumblr dashboard with this post not because I think that 2,732 followers is something to brag about -- although I am happy enough with my progress -- but because I simply do not see any reason for secrecy. Fact is, I only know the exact number of followers for two other collage artists on tumblr, and both are miles ahead of me.
