The 10th anniversary of Wander Over Yonder is coming up, but because life has been happening a lot, I can only find the time to set up dialogue.
If you’re wondering how Lord Hater is coping with the show still not being brought back, here’s what I’m imagining…
(Watchdogs are handing various tools to Lord Hater)
LORD HATER: Spatula… Applicator… Mini-fan…
COMMANDER PEEPERS: Sir? What are you doing?
LORD HATER: Remember when that lawful team Star Foals All Walk On Fours suggested I look for a hobby that “doesn’t inflict harm on any of our vaultmates”?
COMMANDER PEEPERS: That’s Star Force Enforcement Force, but yes, why?
LORD HATER: Well, I followed their advice and took up… (slides back to reveal a face mask) MASK MOLDING!
COMMANDER PEEPERS: Hey, that looks like Craig McCracken!
LORD HATER: Indeed, it does.
COMMANDER PEEPERS: Where did you get the hair?
LORD HATER: Let’s just say we have… (holds up an electric razor with a skull shape on the end) donors who are willing to give.
(cutaway to a beardless Mandrake the Malfeasant and Dr. Screwball Jones with an exceptionally thin mustache, the latter of whom is applying hair growth formula on his mustache/arms)
MANDRAKE: All right, disembodied clown, (gasp) it’s my turn to use the hair growth formula! I can’t let Starbella see me like this!
DR. SCREWBALL JONES: Oh, keep your robe on, ya fossil! I need it more than you do! How else am I gonna play my accordion again?
(cut back to Hater and Peepers)
COMMANDER PEEPERS: It’s very impressive, sir, but… why Craig?
LORD HATER: Our 10-year anniversary is coming up, which means we’ll be free to roam outside the vault for a short time. And since Craig is super busy rebooting his first two shows and he can’t be bothered to ask the higher ups to give our show more recognition, much less one more season, I’ll dress up like him, go up to their houses, and talk them into giving our show that third and final season we were denied years ago! If they refuse, I’ll tell them we’ll settle for a 90-minute TV movie. If they still refuse, I’ll just make them sell the rights to the show to Warner Bros. whether they like it or not.
COMMANDER PEEPERS: You’re still fixated on bringing back the show, aren’t you? Look, sir, given the circumstances, it’s going to take nothing short of a miracle to convince Disney to give us another chance or transfer us to another entertainment conglomerate!
LORD HATER: It’s totally foolproof! Just think, not only will we get to conquer the galaxy again, but I’ll get to brag about my victory over Dominator to the other villains, especially Emperor Awesome!
EMPEROR AWESOME: (offscreen) Bro, I wasn’t born yesterday! I watched that episode, like, 18 times!
TO BE CONTINUED NEXT MONTH

Henry Goes Prehistoric, W. C. Tuttle
Sheriff Henry Harrison Conroy—vaudevillian-turned-lawman—and his oddball deputies, Judge Van Treece and Oscar the giant Swede, are already considered the "Shame of Arizona." But when a gold-hunting prospector is murdered and a wagon plunges into the depths of Lobo Canyon, Henry finds himself chasing clues through bootleg booze, fossil-hunting professors, and political schemes. In a town where comedy and crime go hand in hand, justice may depend on who survives the hangover—and who remembers the night before.
Originally published in Short Stories (January 25, 1948), this screwball Western mystery blends slapstick humor with frontier grit in true W.C. Tuttle fashion.

Dallas VideoFest's founder/artistic director, Bart Weiss and publicist, Kelly J Kitchens discuss Howard Hawks' Bringing Up Baby (1938). Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn team up for the second time in Howard Hawks' 1938 screwball comedy, BRINGING UP BABY (their first film together was Sylvia Scarlett, 1935). Cary Grant plays the stodgy Dr. David Huxley, a paleontologist who is trying to get funding for his museum, marry his secretary and complete his work on a dinosaur fossil, all on the same day. A self-assured and eccentric heiress, Susan Vance (Katharine Hepburn) throws a wrench in his plan when she steals his golf ball during a game with a potential benefactor. In the ensuing 102 minutes, David and Susan are put through a series of outrageous situations involving leopards, a police lockup, and a missing dinosaur bone before the anticipated romantic fade-out.

Can I just say: I have enjoyed your Northanger/ItHappenedOneNight fic so much.
I desperately want the next chapter while simultaneously never wanting it be over! :)
(Any plans to finish 'And then the storm-blast came'? It's so brilliant.)
oh gosh thank you! I'm waiting for the lingering brainfog to lift before going back to it. screwball's a genre that kind of like... necessitates a greater degree of mental acuity than other genres since so much relies on timing and making slightly implausible misunderstandings seem believable.
it's something I've always wanted to finish, but I don't know how to haha. I know that there has to be some kind of final conversation/ reconciliation in front of the excavated fossil on display but I don't really know what that conversation is or should be and I'm not sure how to get there or what else should be in it. Also not sure what to do with the letter-- I don't think there would be one, since Anne's a bit bolder in 'and then the storm-blast came' and she and Wentworth have reestablished their connection a bit more.
