"THE MEN BEHING THE MEN BEHIND THE GUNS Drillers are reaming out holes for rivets on a side shell at the sub-assembly. This requires two men on each machine. All of the drillers are colored, and they are highly skilled workers, most of whom were taught their skills by NCSC. Don Hyatt is foreman." This image appeared in The Colored Shipbuilder (July 1944), which was published by the North Carolina Shipbuilding Company (1941-1946) for its 4,500 African American employees. #blackshiphistory #blackhistorymonth #blackhistorymonth2020 #wwii #shipbuilding #steamship #steamships #history #maritimehistory #shiphistory #shipsters #sshsa #shiphistorycenter #foundincollections #archive #collections #museum #nonprofit #blackhistoryfacts (at The Steamship Historical Society of America) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8b5ipnn91N/?igshid=kz6w6x2v7c6j

Do you like museum stuff?
If you like museums and you think you might be interested in my job (I work at two museums.), feel free to follow my other tumblr, @foundincollections.
My “official” job is collections assistant, but, because both of my museums are small, I do a lot more than CAs usually do.
Right now, I’m posting about the temporary exhibit we’re currently installing.
