New painting photo dump! Well, the photos are new, the paintings are not. I did most of these about two years ago. If anyone is curious, one of my big inspirations is an artist by the name of Olayami Dabls. He's an artist famous for the Dabls Mbad African Bead Museum. A lot of his artwork uses bright colors and mixed materials. He creates art as a form of cultural healing, which is something that I can really relate to. I sometimes have a hard time putting my feelings into words and I use my art as a way of communicating pain and healing from it; whether it's from personal trauma of my life or the societal trauma of being trans. I try to use symbols that are universal so that no matter who you are, you can take something away from it. I wanted to bring up one of my inspirations because I'm proud of these pieces, but I'm also thankful for this style of expression that I've learned from artists like Dabls. MARCH -> PERSPECTIVE

Our global theme for March is PERSPECTIVE. It was chosen by our Fargo chapter and illustrated by Fred Gaye Wremeo. 

Every creative act is an attempt to share a unique perspective on some slice of the world. What you see — and how you see it — shapes your beliefs. So, what’s your point of view? And how are you putting it into your work? What was the last piece of music, writing, illustration, or film that opened a new window on the world for you? 

One of the most impactful artistic innovations was linear perspective; widely credited to Fillipo Brunelleschi in the early 14th century. This breakthrough enabled artists to create the illusion of three-dimensional space on a flat canvas, paving the way for the ornate art and architecture of the Renaissance. Today, it feels like we are at another precipice with AI generated images and video. We don’t know how this rapidly emerging artistic tech will shape our perspectives. The machine is already capable of evoking real emotions. But only we can understand those feelings. 

Because seeing someone else’s point of view is uniquely human. Considering another perspective fosters empathy. And we all desperately need more empathy. Remember, looking at a problem from multiple angles generates more possible solutions. So, change your perspective and you can change your world.

The Radius Project

My contribution to our group project focusing on Limerick City.

My peer group and I focused on the old vs the new. We walked on foot around Limerick City and took in everything around us. I was particularly interested in the old buildings, and so I put a modern spin on them by using articles from a current newspaper, the Limerick Leader and cutting shapes into my drawings to create 'a view into the future'.

I loved working with my group and was delighted to be able to explore a foreign city with such a charismatic group of people. Discussing ideas with other creatives and working together was something I hadn't experienced before and I loved that we were constantly bouncing our ideas off of one another and looking deeper than what was on the surface.

I used the video platform TikTok to create a video of the day.
