I have something today!!!! Lol. Thank you to @sanjuwrites @catanisspicy @wtfuckevenknows for the tags!
This is a lil bit from my BTHB card: it’s under a cut for content- it fills the vomiting prompt so, yeah… 🫢
Carlos watches as he secures his seatbelt and then he does the same before pulling out on the road.
They have to pull over twice so TK can puke and Carlos isn’t quite sure how he can have anything left to get rid of; but maybe he doesn’t since the second time they stop, TK just dry heaves into the bag until Carlos coaxes him back into the car so they can finish their drive home.
Finally, they make it back to the loft, and TK slowly makes his way into the building and into the elevator, with Carlos close behind. They have the elevator to themselves and mercifully, the movement doesn’t make TK sick again.
As soon as Carlos unlocks the door, TK hurries inside and makes a beeline for the bathroom, stepping out of his shoes and dropping his hoodie along the way.
Carlos grabs his phone and finds his grocery delivery app. He knows his husband’s favorite flavor of Gatorade and orders half a dozen, some Pepto, saltines, and a case of water, leaving a hefty tip with the promise of more if they can deliver in less than an hour. Although the store’s not far, he’ll pay a little extra if it means not leaving TK home alone.
He puts TK’s shoes in the closet and cleans out his duffel bag, stashing it away until the next shift TK’s well enough to attend, although he knows it’ll be a few days.
Carlos grabs a bottle of water and TK’s pajamas, and then knocks on the door.
“Please don’t come in,” TK begs.
“I have water for you,” Carlos says.
The door opens a crack, just enough for TK to stick his hand through. Carlos hands him the items and TK murmurs a thank you before slamming the door shut again.
****
It’s late so I’m not tagging anyone *cough* @noxsoulmate *cough* but if anyone sees this and wants to, please do and feel free to tag me!

Lets be real Taylor probably offered to pay for the suite and he was like nope. Can you imagine if Taylor paid? all the news article saying how he's cheap?
for all we know they went halvsies and she’s reimbursed part direct to him like how tf would we know? Why does it matter? Why do we care how they deal with their finances??? He absolutely CAN afford it. He can’t afford spending upwards of a mil daily (Taylor tbh can lol) but he can do a big splurge on his biggest night of the year.
Again, given I’m in a relationship with an income discrepancy (not that my bf has Travis money lol or even fwiw Joe Alwyn money but he earns well) I’ve had a lot of convos about shit like this. He does pay more in terms of bottom line. But like beyond my household contributions (groceries, utility share, some of the reno costs) that doesn’t mean I haven’t taken us on a weekend away (I did, to a nice place, and I paid for everything except petrol because we went in his car and yes he offered to go halvsies at least but I said no) or that I don’t pay for dinners out (I’m actually likelier to pay for nicer ones because he likes to go out like twice a week for a meal and that gets a bit steep for me but I’d still be going out if we weren’t together so if we go somewhere nice I tend to pay) or that I don’t pay for all takeouts (which we do in lieu of meals out some weeks or if we’re both busy because he hates like dealing with the apps or the delivery people so I just do it) or that I don’t cover most of our streaming subscriptions (I had them before we moved in so like I just pay those). Where we’ve gone away and he’s paid for it, I try cover the meals as much as possible (unless he beats me to the bill). At the end of the day, I’m still paying significantly less but it’s not like I’m not trying and it works for us.
I also feel the need to justify it a lot though and I’ve had friends - especially female friends actually - assume he pays a lot more than he does towards me because income and age gap. A friend of mine is having a big birthday this year and wants to do a weeklong girls’ trip and I was like “that sounds amazing but I can’t really swing it because I wasn’t working for part of last year” and she was like “but didn’t he give you money??” and I was like “not like an allowance lol” and then she was like “well just ask him to cover part” and I was like “I don’t feel comfortable doing that at all” and she got really pissy with me so idk I’m further relating to all of the dudes Taylor’s dating who obviously can’t afford all that she can and where obviously she’s gonna pay more but like that’s really none of our business and I don’t think any of them want a free ride.
Travis can afford to pay for this suite for one night in a whole year. It won’t financially destroy him. The house he bought, similarly, was a good investment since he’s still got to be in KC for a couple years at least and generally property appreciates so idk man. If he buys a private island just for them I’ll be like “Travis dude chill” but rn he seems to be acting quite sensibly and if they move in obviously it won’t be 50/50 - Taylor will pay more - but that doesn’t mean he won’t contribute as far as he can.

I decided to order a Covid test from a store through a food delivery app since I’m sick and I added groceries in as well because it was a grocery store. So I didn’t question it when the delivery driver gave me two bags. But I opened the first bag up and it wasn’t my stuff. I had someone else’s order. So I reported it and now I’m getting my own order redelivered so I just have free groceries.

A few months ago I got a jar of pesto sauce and opened it to taste it and put it in the fridge. After that though i just, could not find it. multiple times a month i would look for it only to come up with nothing. slowly i began to think that i actually never got a jar of pesto and it was all in my head, and i forgot about the pesto believing this. I couldnt check my grocery delivery app either to see if i actually did buy it because i had to start using my dad's account since he doesnt get the delivery and my free delivery for working there ran out since they officially fired me.
anyway i moved the pickle juice jar today to take a swig (very refreshing) and you'll never guess what was behind the fucking pickle jar. the fucking pesto sauce. that i thought i had just imagined getting for the past few months. it's real. the goddamn pesto is real.

hi i love ur blog sm!!! i'm studying in egypt for around 9 months as part of a university program and i was wondering if you had any advice for me (based off ur pinned post- if u don't live in egypt anymore u can ignore this!!!!) both as a woman and just in general. if this isn't something you'd like to talk about feel free to ignore! i hope you're doing well <3
Hey! Welcome to Egypt, also known in the region as the mother of the world.
Mostly my advice would be to steer clear of anyone trying to sell you things on the streets. Don’t take taxis, Uber is more expensive but safer and you’re less likely to get scammed. Idk if you speak any Arabic but try to learn some, it helps in navigating day to day life without getting scammed. Most everyone speaks English (badly, lol), though, so it’s not a requirement. Don’t walk alone at night, don’t trust Egyptian men for half a second, ever, no matter how well you think you know them. Try to make friends quickly, Egyptian women are very friendly and welcoming and extremely helpful. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and support from friends and neighbours. If you’re in Cairo, beware the metro system, it’ll always take at least twice as long as you think it will. If you’re in Alexandria, trams are a good way to travel around if you know what you’re doing, but you’ll have to get to know the tram lines.
Don’t trade currency on the black market, keep to the banks and currency exchange outlets. Don’t drink tap water, and don’t eat from dodgy looking carts unless you have someone’s assurance you won’t get sick off of it.
And, most importantly, enjoy your time to the fullest. Try all the traditional food, explore the museums and historical sites, try to find social media pages and influencers who share ‘hidden gems’ around where you’ll be staying.
Download talabat (it’s a food delivery app and it delivers groceries as well) and mrsool (it’s basically an app to like… get someone to pick up/buy/deliver something for you for a fee) once you get here. And get an Egyptian SIM card on arrival, I recommend Vodafone but be aware coverage might not be great depending on where you are, a lot of areas don’t get any cell coverage inside buildings.
If you’re going to be in Alexandria, hit me up for recommendations if you’d like! And have fun!

Thess vs Fibro Fog
I think I may simply have to accept that this is a bad brain day. Not in the “I am having depression and / or anxiety” way; in the “brain fog because fibromyalgia” way.
Went out for some various bits I needed / wanted - mostly chives and prawns for wonton filling for my eventual wonton soup, but also picked up some pain meds while I was out because why not spare myself an extra trip? Even got some frozen fruit for smoothies in the week! Thought I was doing exceptionally well; that my spoon recharge of yesterday had really paid off.
Then I went to start my lamb dopiaza cooking and it all went to hell. A quick summary of all the shit that went wrong:
Went to wash hands and face after chopping of ALL THE ONION, forgot my bathrobe on the bathroom floor (I’d taken it off because I hadn’t wanted water dripping down my sleeves)
Lost track of my measuring spoons at least three times
Going down the ingredient checklist a third time before going to check how much water to add (because I hadn’t remembered to put that on my handy-dandy handwritten ingredient list) and realised I could not remember whether I’d added the garam masala. Thought I probably had, but could not be sure. So I added more anyway because how much could it really hurt at the end of the day?
(At least I remembered about the cardamom pods this time. Probably why I lost track of the garam masala; I was so focused on the thing I forgot last time)
Nearly threw out the remainder of my garlic at least twice because I somehow kept registering it as “just garlic skin; needs binning”
I don’t know what happened to my train of thought here, but somehow “Finished wiping the counter” did not translate to “So put the J-cloth back in the sink” and “Pick up the stuff that needs throwing away” did not translate to “And then put it in the garbage can” so I had an issue when my next thought was, “I should go get my mug from the study and make a cup of coffee” and left the kitchen with a soggy J-cloth in one hand and a container of onion and garlic skins in the other
FINALLY got all that sorted out, thought, “Okay, fine, we’re good; now how long do I need before I start the aloo gobi?” and then realised that for all my forethought about most of the groceries, my “Should I get tomatoes?” did not require a “naaaaaaah” because I need those for the aloo gobi.
My brain is just not working properly today. I mean, I have this occasionally but generally not while I’m trying to Do Things. Apparently it’s really detrimental to Doing Things, this level of brain fog. I hate the brain fog. My brain doesn’t work the way I want it to enough as it is; I don’t need this on top of it.
On the somewhat positive side, at least I remember that a lot of those online food delivery things do groceries now. So I ordered some tomatoes, and also some gluten-free chocolate chip cookies (the big Sainsbury’s were out of them, but apparently the only slightly less big one around Forest Hill has them in stock) and some chocolate, just to make me feel better and to not feel like a total idiot for using a fucking delivery app to order one fucking packet of tomatoes.
I just need to remind myself that if I’m going to play video games later, it should be something extremely forgiving, or something I can hyperfocus on really well. Otherwise the frustration at not being able to Do The Thing is going to kill me.

To Catch A Thief
The digital era has spawned entirely new ways to steal. It was only a matter of time, of course, because thievery has always been around. It is the underbelly of society. Just as Jesus said the poor will always be among us, so will the thieves.

And today’s blog is about two types of digital theft…one affecting customers of a well-known  company, and one that affected me personally. The latter is more a cautionary tale than anything, and since it was resolved in quick order, I am OK. But I sure felt violated, just like the people who eventually discover the theft affecting them in the first example. And off we go to that first example.

If you use third-party shopping services, or, for that matter, any company relying on the gig economy to provide workers, you need to be paying attention to your credit card charges. Recently, some shoppers started noticing that their Instacart orders were not exactly what they had originally submitted. Turns out their Instacart shopper was adding a few items here and there to the orders they picked for customers, effectively doing their own grocery shopping with other peoples’ money (OPM).
Basically, a box of mac and cheese here, some spices there, etc., and they have done their shopping too.
Tumblr media
The thinking is that most people don’t pay attention to their charges, and because an Instacart order isn’t completely rung up until the shopper is ready to leave—you never know if something you ordered suddenly isn’t available—you just await your delivery and go on living your life. All the while, our micro-thief has been getting free groceries.
In my example, I was leaving Albuquerque two weeks ago tomorrow from my conference, and noticed a couple of emails congratulating me on having redeemed some of my Hilton Honors points at Amazon. Well boy howdy, that caught my attention. Not only had I not done that, I didn’t even know I could. I immediately checked my Hilton app, and noticed I was missing about 600,000 points.

That was when I exited the freeway and settled in to more than 30 minutes of phone conversations with various Hilton personnel, including their Fraud Detection department. I am convinced it was not a crime against me personally, since I never login from a computer, and only from my phone app. The perpetrator was likely thinking it was a victimless crime, only somewhat more heinous than the Instacart driver letting you pay for a few groceries.

My Hilton thief also got into my account and added a new phone number, making it the primary, and also added two-factor authentication so that I could not make any changes without him or her getting a text seeking to verify the changes. I was cut off at the knees.
Fortunately, Hilton resolved it within two days, giving me a completely new account, reinstating my lost points, adding 150,000 more, and continuing my Diamond status for the year. Thank you, Hilton.
But this is not a victimless crime, because someone had to pay. As it turns out, 500,000 Hilton points can buy a $1000 Amazon gift card. That’s no small thing. The thief saw this as an easy crime, but was not smart enough to change the email address on the account. Every move she or he made was mirrored to me in emails.

Whomever did the crime is completely unknown to me. Was it a front desk clerk with an illegal side hustle? Someone else inside Hilton? A data breach that allowed someone access to many accounts? And yes, it could have been a breach on my phone as well, but this is the only incident of fraud or theft I have detected that has anything to do with my phone.
I now have two-factor on my new Hilton account, as well as facial recognition. I never dreamed I would have to use two-factor on something as seemingly benign as a loyalty points program. Then again, I’m pretty sure that Instacart shoppers never thought someone might be nickel and diming them either.
Theft is theft, fraud is fraud. There is no such thing as a victimless crime when it comes to using OPM. It’s the kind of thing that bedevils fraud departments, because it costs money to go after what amounts to petty theft. But it is petty theft that can add up. The $1000 or more that my thief used at Amazon most certainly went for gift cards instead of blenders and air fryers, because gift cards can be sold quickly and converted to cash. Blenders and air fryers cannot. I just hope that Hilton worked with Amazon, and shut down everything, including any gift cards purchased.
Meanwhile, be ever diligent in the digital era. You may be paying for someone’s else’s dinner. Someone may be profiting from your points. And in any regard, I hope they caught my perp and broke his knees, although I have my doubts. I’ll be watching everything a lot more closely from now on, even the little things.
