Nasrin Sotoudeh
She defended Iranian women who removed their hijabs.
Now she’s been given 38 years in prison and 148 lashes.
Nasrin Sotoudeh (also spelled Sotoodeh; Persian: نسرین ستوده‎) is a human rights lawyer in Iran. She has represented imprisoned Iranian opposition activists and politicians following the disputed June 2009 Iranian presidential elections as well as prisoners sentenced to death for crimes committed when they were minors.
Her clients have included journalist Isa Saharkhiz, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi, and Heshmat Tabarzadi, the head of the banned opposition group Democratic Front of Iran.
Ms. Sotoudeh, 55, was arrested last June at her home. Her two children have not been allowed to visit her. She previously served in prison for her work from 2010 to 2013.
Ms. Sotoudeh was awarded in 2012 the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought and, last year, the Ludovic Trarieux Human Rights Prize.
She is a woman of extraordinary courage, and her jailing is an affront to all who believe in human dignity and the rule of law.
Unbelievable:
The United Nations announced on March 13 that Iran will get a seat on the U.N. women's rights committee which judges complaints alleging violations of women’s rights!
Call on the Supreme Leader of Iran to release Nasrin Sotoudeh immediately and unconditionally and for her sentences to be quashed without delay.

After two grossly unfair trails, Nasrin Sotoudeh, a prominent Iranian human rights lawyer, was sentenced to 38 years and six months in prison and 148 lashes because of her work defending women's rights and protesting against Iran’s discriminatory and degrading forced veiling laws. Nasrin has dedicated her life to peaceful human rights works. (from https://www.amnesty.org/.../iran-free-nasrin-satoudeh-now)
As millions around the world demand the Islamic Republic of Iran #FreeNasrin, she started a hunger strike to fight for the release of all prisoners of conscience who were not included in the mass release of 85,000+ prisoners as COVID-19 courses through Iran's prisons. "To Emmanuel Macron, host of the G7, and all G7 leaders:
As concerned citizens from around the globe, we urge you to call for the release of Nasrin Sotoudeh in Iran, Loujain al-Hathloul in Saudi Arabia, and all other women’s right activists being imprisoned and abused around the world. We call on you to use your economic and diplomatic leverage to free these brave women and send a message to the world that women cannot be abused with impunity."
