YES, but with an absolutely massive disclaimer that I have very minimal knowledge about how women would be treated in the mdzs world since any I’ve absorbed is mostly from the pov of the main male characters, and I’ll admit to not searching outside of that because I’m stuck in the wangxian rabbit hole. anYWAY the cql-verse is kind of my ideal canon for this since there were women among the disciples and there was very little talk about marriage or propriety. if I wrote this properly I would do the research... anyway here’s some headcanons:

lan zhan realizing when she’s young, and maybe the people around her go along with it because they think it’s a result of losing her mother, and maybe it doesn’t matter because young disciples of any gender are raised so similarly. obviously as she grows older it might pose a problem for things like sleeping in the disciple quarters and bathing in groups, but they kinda just think she’ll get over it. 

of course she NEVER does, and maybe the few times they tried to talk to her about fulfilling the role of second young master as her birth intended, she fell into a depression so dark and deep that it scared her family shitless; it also affected her studies and training, which is probably a point people around her keep coming back to when they talk about her being allowed to continue as a lady of the clan. a point she probably internalizes as a need for perfectionism, in which she assumes more studies and training and duties than those around her in order to prove her worth as a woman of the clan [inhales so deeply] 

anyway I WAS thinking about maybe some hand waving about herbs and maybe some magic to enable a transition here for a scenario that would closely mirror a modern trans narrative simply for the Fun and Comfort of it, but also that does not have to happen at all! and lwj would have the same body and be a woman! I think both are valid and do-able since there is MAGIC and magic and great and useful, and we can use it for gender euphoria if we want to!

anyway, of course when wwx comes to the cloud recesses everything is infinitely more scandalous because she’s a young lady of the clan and he’s absolutely OBSESSED WITH HER because she’s TALL and BUFF and GRACEFUL, and they get left alone FAR TOO MANY TIMES to be appropriate. jiang cheng has to sincerely apologize about wwx’s behavior over and over, and maybe wwx is just a TINY BIT better behaved (but not much) because he has Respect for Women (totally)

disclaimer I do NOT think he would show an esteemed lady Lan porn nor would he get in the cold pond with her, but he would absolutely try to rescue her when she fell into the vortex of the pond or whatever happened when they ended up in the cave. she still wraps her headband around her wrist, he marvels at the tan line on her forehead (I am EXTREMELY pro-forehead tan line), etc.

things progress as normal to the story but obviously she isn’t going to assume a gendered title and wwx is like a million times more fixated on whether or not she’s ruining her reputation by being around him, and her declarations of love is her saying: ‘I don’t care’ over and over even though her reputation is the one thing she feels forces people to respect her as the woman she is.

I just think about her always!!

My sibling was in a really bad car accident yesterday. They are lucky to be alive but looking at multiple surgeries still and at least 6+ months of recovery.

I’m scared. Terrified, really. I spent most of yesterday having breakdown at work in my friends’ arms and feeling guilty for not being at the hospital, even though with covid restrictions, I wouldn’t have been able to see him yesterday anyway.

I held my dad’s hand while he cried. I was in awe of my mother’s strength.

And today I’m supposed to go to Pride. It would be my very first one. I was really looking forward to it and to being surrounded by a community of people who I could resonate with.

But now I’m not sure. All I can think about is my sibling. I don’t know if I can celebrate when everything inside of me is hurting. But I also think it might be healing in a way.

I don’t know. Everything feels very heavy and uncertain, but my sibling is alive, on the road to being well, and my family and friends are safe.

That’s what’s important today. Everything else is just noise.
