"Oh, I do," Ecco replied in a matter-of-fact tone. Working for Jeremiah, under the moniker of Xander Wilde, she had dealt with politicians on a semi-regular basis. But there was something too saccharine about the other woman's tone, too bright. Ecco offered her a smile back. Though she was always calm and usually reserved, Fish Mooney had taught her how to talk to women like this. At least, the sort of woman Ecco assumed this was. "Yes, we must. But I wonder how long someone like Aubrey James can cling on to power without affecting real change."

Silver looked over at the other woman and smiled. "Don't you know anything about politicians?" She asked sweetly, keeping up her easy-going pretences. It was all a game for Silver and these people, including the mayor, were the pieces. But she was beginning to lose sight of why this game was fun. What was the goal? What was the prize for winning? "Everything that comes out of their mouths is a lie." Silver finished, still smiling for appearances. "But it's their world, I suppose, so we must find a way to live in it."

Salam and welcome to my blog!!

Its been a long time coming. I have been putting it off, as well as a tonne of other things. But, finally, I have been able to motivate myself to create this blog! I hope to share some of my journey with you, some behind the scenes of Silver Lining as well as introduce my two little monsters aka Rayyan and Aroosh.

So, a little about me. My name is Atiya. I’m a single mother to two young boys who are my love and joy. I run a small business called Silver Lining where I sell  Islam inspired stationery, decorations and home décor. I graduated with a BSc Hons in Environmental Science and a Diploma is Professional Studies. I never pursued a career in my degree subject but would love to introduce more sustainability practices and eco measures into my business.

Silver Lining is something that happened when I was trying to understand myself and what I was supposed to do after deciding to separate from my children’s father. I didn’t know if what I was doing was right. I was concerned of what my Islamic rights were and whether there was any advice to guide me to make the right decision.

During this time I came upon so many people who were going thorough spiritual journeys and testing times. I found solace and comfort in their stories and understanding how they got through their hardships. 

I hope this short introduction is received well and would love to hear feedback from you. If you have any question do message me and I’ll endeavour to get back to as soon as possible.

Ecco heard the other woman murmur something under her breath, but she didn't catch it. Years of making small talk with strangers at events like this had taught her not to ask someone to repeat themselves when they muttered under their breath. She nodded in agreement at her next words. "I'm sure you're right," she said. Honestly, she was sure that Jeremiah would prefer it if James stayed in office. These days, her boss was one of the people likely looking to manipulate him. Ecco felt no way about it. "This city needs someone strong to affect change," she said, after a moment. "Someone with a vision."

"That's unfortunate." The platinum blonde said under her breath. She drank the rest of her martini and a waiter immediately took the empty glass out of her hand and replaced it with a fresh one. She always tipped the staff extremely well if they kept a drink in her hand. These events got too boring if she was sober, especially when there was no drama to stir up. "He'll last as long as the elite want him to. They hold all of the power in this city and he's easily manipulated." Silver said truthfully, but she spoke as if she wasn't one of the elite keeping the idiot mayor on his grungy little throne.

Don’t tell them everything will work out. Don’t tell them give it time. Don’t tell them that they need to appease the perpetrator. Be there for them, listen to them and if they just need to vent, let them do that. But DO NOT ignore the abuse. Help the victim become stronger. Help them know what is happening is wrong. Help them find the right organisations for assistance.
