Salam and welcome to my blog!!

Its been a long time coming. I have been putting it off, as well as a tonne of other things. But, finally, I have been able to motivate myself to create this blog! I hope to share some of my journey with you, some behind the scenes of Silver Lining as well as introduce my two little monsters aka Rayyan and Aroosh.

So, a little about me. My name is Atiya. I’m a single mother to two young boys who are my love and joy. I run a small business called Silver Lining where I sell  Islam inspired stationery, decorations and home décor. I graduated with a BSc Hons in Environmental Science and a Diploma is Professional Studies. I never pursued a career in my degree subject but would love to introduce more sustainability practices and eco measures into my business.

Silver Lining is something that happened when I was trying to understand myself and what I was supposed to do after deciding to separate from my children’s father. I didn’t know if what I was doing was right. I was concerned of what my Islamic rights were and whether there was any advice to guide me to make the right decision.

During this time I came upon so many people who were going thorough spiritual journeys and testing times. I found solace and comfort in their stories and understanding how they got through their hardships. 

I hope this short introduction is received well and would love to hear feedback from you. If you have any question do message me and I’ll endeavour to get back to as soon as possible.

Firstly to god we belong and to him we return. So these incredible human beings have changed the face of #islamaphobia #britishmuslim #muslimsuk #muslim #islam A few weeks ago if you would have told me that being muslim in the UK was gonna be such a positive thing for once I would not have believed you. Yesterday evening I sat watching #itvnews with an interview for a sheikh in Leeds being questioned about how the Muslim community feels being the worst hit in death toll with the #covid19. I have never see Islam portrayed positively there were no terrorist reports or the need to explain to others that there are muslims who do normal things like practise medicine, save lives and even die in saving others. What really surprised me is the acknowledgment that its Ramadan very soon. The reports concern was would there be a fatwah or declaration that muslims on the frontline would not need to fast. In all my 42 years I have never seen concern or a positive report on Islam on the news I did not know how to react except say thank you to those brave souls who lost there lives for us. There families should be very proud. I hope that through this we educate yourselves about one another and eradicate ignorance. With knowledge comes light with light comes peace. She was watering the plants when someone shouted this at her as they walked past. Amma came inside and asked me what it meant. I can't remember how I explained it I just remember her looking sad. She said she knew it was something bad because of the way the person looked at her. Amma noticed the word Paki when ever it was used now. The neighbours taught their children to shout 'kill the Pakis' over the fense when ever she went into the garden. They started keying Abba's car till there was no red paint left on it to scratch off. The neighbours learnt to keep their racist thoughts to themselves when we had to get the police involved. They put a hosepipe through my little brothers bedroom window. Created by Asif Aziz in 2015, the Aziz Foundation is a family charitable foundation with the guiding philosophy and key principle of operating to support British Muslims to bring positive change to their communities and beyond.

Their fundamental objective is to create a fair and thriving society by empowering all individuals and communities to fulfil their true potential.  This is pursued through their Masters Scholarships Programme.

This programme has been created to enable British Muslims who will advocate for disadvantaged communities amplifying their positive contributions and actions. Through the programme, it is hoped that confidence will be nurtured and that articulate public leaders of Muslim background who are able to engage with public narratives and address the social challenges facing British Muslim communities and wider society.
