Froot Basket: Dark Chocolate (Visual Novel)
Created by: xxmissarichanxx
Genre: Horror
I actually was waiting for this one to come out when I heard it was first announced and I'm really happy I did because this game is fantastic. It's a lot less comedic than the original game, Froot Basket Valentine, and it gives much more context to Momotaru, the yandere in question. For this game you actually play as him, attempting to summon a demon. This is one of the few games where I still didn't get all of the achievements for, so hopefully I didn't miss anything too major that might change what happens. The main one I'm missing is the basketball achievement because that minigame is way too hard to beat. If you'd like more information on the Froot Basket games please look at @xxmissarichanxx for more.
The game summary for this might be a little strange since the game runs in a time loop with the dialogue changing slightly when replayed. I'll note the differences after I go with the normal route as well as what happens in the endings (or at least I'll try because I can't seem to get the full ending for it). There are a lot of other small things I'll try to explain as well, since it depends on where you go during each day.
The story starts out initially with Momotaru waking up to find Jordan worried about him. Apparently, the two had just performed a ceremony with a demon, though it doesn't seem to have worked. Momotaru ends up passing out due to a nosebleed and ends up in the infirmary after, where he hears Spine and Dr. Ringo chatting with each other. Dr. Ringo tries to get him to go home since he's not in such good shape, but Momotaru decides to head to the basketball game anyways. Momotaru goes to watch Jordan as now they are a candidate for the next captain of the basketball team and admires them from . Momotaru ends up joining the team, though fails to stay as he ends up nearly passing out again, forcing Coach Paer to kick him out. Jordan comforts Momotaru afterwards, melting his heart. Momotaru then laments about how he's an outcast, and he shows how jealous he is towards Sutoro, someone that Jordan has a crush on. During lunch he learns about how Spine and Dr. Ringo are dating. Dr. Ringo informs Momo to go home, but Momo refuses as he wants to spend more time with Jordan. As he hears whispers in his head, he searches for either Jordan or Spine. Fighting with Spine reveals that the two are brawling to help Jordan with basketball, while finding Jordan instead makes him find Sutoro, who tells him to stay away from Jordan as he's done pretty terrible things to others in the past. Either way, Jordan ends up handing the demon book that started the mess to Momo. Momo ends up going to the bathroom where they did the ritual to find out what's going on, only to find that the demon the two summoned has attached himself to Momo. Momo asks the demon to make Jordan love him and only him in exchange for getting bits of hair, spit, sweat and other things for the demon. Reading the book shows that having the love potion to work requires them to be fed it slowly. The rest of the game requires the player to get these pieces from the people around them, at least until Halloween where the ritual is performed. Failing it will cause Momo to continually repeat the same cycle over and over again.
There are a couple of differences in the second time around, where Momo remembers the days events and tries to bypass them, as well as moments where the demon attempts to take control of Momo. He also realizes that the pieces he's gathering from others are to make the Demon a body. When done correctly and with all of the parts, Momo will continually feed Jordan the love potion so that they forget all those around them. This leads to the events of the last game, as well as the true ending where Momo is found unmoving on the floor. If the player does not get everything in time, the spell doesn't work and Jordan will still befriend the others like in the original game. Unfortunately I couldn't get the last ending where the demon takes over (or maybe I did, but that was a long while ago), so hopefully there wasn't anything too big on that ending.
We learn the general reason to why Jordan like Sutoro so much- mostly that he's very cool and popular, the type that speaks directly and intentionally. As a result, Momo becomes extremely jealous over him, attempting to be popular as well to gain Jordan's attention and supposedly also tripping him down the stairs in the past, which leads to Sutoro being very wary and disliking Momo.
I gotta say first of all that this game is very well made and an excellent prequel sequel to Froot Basket Valentine. While I loved the tone and the absurdity of the original game, one of the things I wasn't too found of was the fact that we didn't know that much about the relationship between Momotaru and Jordan, since the two seemed to be very close and that he was a yandere for them. Luckily, this entire game does show how Momotaru feels towards Jordan and why, along with why the events of the first game happened in the first place. I also think it's nice that we are able to see more of the relationships between all of the characters, thus learning more abou them. The art style, while different from the first game really does set the tone of it, favoring a more comic book style rather than a more painterly/goofy look to it, which I really do like. The various events that can happen as well make it very good for replayability, especially since you can get different types of parts from different characters depending on what is chosen.
Momotaru as a yandere is very cynical, not caring or disliking most of the other characters besides Jordan since he sees them as their one true love. Unlike in Valentine, we do see that Momotaru sees himself as more of a loser rather than the more popular chick magnet that he was in that game. He looks down on other and himself and just hates it when anyone gets near them, even though most of the other characters, with the exception of Paer and Suturo, seem to be rather friendly with him. With Suturo its a rival situation where he does attempt to get rid of him (and fails) as well as try to become more like him so that Jordan will like him thorough popularity and trying to be good at basketball (because as it turns out Momotaru is actually pretty weak physically), though it ironically doesn't really matter as much considering that Suturo ends up rejecting Jordan in Valentine, as he has no romantic interest in them. He's specifically very spiteful towards him for this reason, so anything that ends with him hurting Suturo probably makes him happy. So it does make sense that he wants Jordan to like him and makes a deal with the demon, considering that Jordan is A. kind of oblivious and B. already very clearly likes Sutoro. When it comes to Jordan though, Momotaru is very lovestruck over them, even offering to help them do a demonic ritual to (apparently) help make their friend's life better, and in a lot of cases even just outright confesses to liking them or wanting to be with them. In some cases it does seem like he worships them to a certain degree, trying to find them always, remembering everything that they told him and just seeing all of the good sides of them. That being said, he is willing to use more underhanded tactics of being with them, specifically the love potion that's created at the ending when the ritual is completed on Halloween, so that they would forget everyone except him. I'll be honest Momotaru and Spine were actually pretty big inspirations for Iya and Emil in terms of personality and appearance (to a certain degree) so I'm always happy to see them in the game.
That being said, I think the biggest qualm I have about the game is that it's very hard to get all of the endings, even with a tutorial. Normally, it's not too difficult for me to complete most of a game, especially for visual novels, but there's a lot of finicky things going on with Froot Basket that make it difficult. It's generally very hard to remember how to get everyone on the hitlist and harder to time it correctly to get everything you need, especially without the tutorial. Even with the tutorial, I was only able to get two of the three endings (for some reason the Consume ending is evading me, though I'm pretty sure I've successfully did all of the clicking minigames right and followed the walkthrough). For me, the basketball minigame is pretty hard as well since it's a lot based on chances and Suturo is leagues better at the game than Momotaro is (or at least the game is more biased towards letting Suturo win) so I had to give up on that one. That being said, I am very grateful for the tutorial because it did allow me to make sure I could get two of the endings, but it's still pretty difficult for me to get everything that I need to make a full analysis of the game (though I guess missing one ending probably won't kill me).
Overall, an extremely well made game. If you liked Froot Basket Valentine and want more from the characters, please give it a try. There's a lot of things you can learn about everyone and the story is very intriguing seeing it from the yandere's point of view. I highly recommend it.

Yoongi groaned as he strained to open his eyes. He could barely stifle a yawn as he leaned on the stroller slowly moving it through the aisle. His phone rested atop of the little tray attached to the handles, buzzing incessantly as messages from his company bombarded the screen. Could he not have some rest even on a Sunday?
He sighed as he stopped in front of the cereals, examining the boxes, trying to decide between his craving for Froot Loops and the healthier choice of Muselli. Knowing that he would be eating said cereal for dinner this whole week, he opted for Museli, missing the days he had enough time to cook a proper meal for himself.
“Daddy! Up!” Hyunji’s lisp pulled him out of his reminiscing as he watched his two year old daughter wriggling around in her seat, arms up to coax him into carrying her. Rubbing his eyes and trying to balance his grocery basket, Yoongi crouched to her level as she impatiently smacked her hands on the foam bar in front of her. He couldn’t help but smile at her - her tiny eyes almost hidden by her rosy chubby cheeks, hair a mess as she had managed to pull one of her pigtails out.
“We’ll be home soon, Ji,” he cooed at the chaotic love of his life, placing his basket on the floor to fix her shoe that had seemed to come undone for the eighth time this morning. However, his placades were lost on her as his daughter used her future swimmer lungs to scream, her shrill voice making him wince, but surprisingly working much better than the two iced coffees he had chugged earlier.
With a groan, Yoongi settled on the floor, trying to dodge her little feet that were kicking at him. He really couldn’t wait till she outgrew her temper tantrums. Reaching into his hoodie pocket, he pulled out a small pack of tissues, trying his best to get rid of the snot and tears that flowed down her face as she angrily fought him, her tiny fists colliding with his forearms.
“Ji, please. Calm down,” Yoongi sighed, trying his best to pacify his screaming daughter, while throwing apologetic glances at the shoppers passing by. “Okay, you want to be like that? Then let it out of your system. Go ahead.”
Resigning himself to his fate, Yoongi sat cross-legged in front of her stroller and rubbed his eyes. He knew Hyunji would calm down soon enough, and with the week he had he didn’t care if passerbys thought he was a terrible father for letting his daughter cry her eyes out in the breakfast aisle. In fact, he didn’t care that he himself was close to tears. He felt overwhelmed and bitter, the words of his mother ringing in his ears. “If only you had worked out your issues, she would be here, and you wouldn’t be alone!”
He laughed deliriously, the weeks of shitty sleep catching up to him as he pleaded with his daughter to calm down, bribing her with candy he never bought her to no avail. “Please baby, just half an hour and then we’ll be home,” Yoongi negotiated, his eyes glassy as Hyunji shrieked in response, causing him to startle and bang his shin against the wheel. He hissed in pain, grimacing with his head against the foam rod as she pulled at his dark hair. He loved his daughter, truly from the bottom of his heart, but he couldn’t wait till she started preschool next week and he could get some reprieve.
“Do you mind if I try?”
Yoongi followed the voice to see you crouching next to him. Dressed in a printed dress with little dinosaurs all over it, and a pair of red glasses that matched your shoes, you didn’t seem like you worked at the store, but Yoongi couldn’t care less. He didn’t know if his exhaustion was blurring his mind, but you seemed like the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He couldn’t stop staring at you, from the slope of your nose, to your hair that fell into your eyes. Had Yoongi really been that deprived of adult human contact that just looking at you made his heart pound in his chest and heat rise to his cheeks? Wow, your lips were really pretty. They looked so soft, crinkling a little on the side when you spoke. Oh shit, you were speaking!
Yoongi was broken out of his thoughts by your voice. “What’s her name,” you asked, tentatively reaching out towards the angry toddler.
“Hyunji.”
Yoongi felt as if he was in a daze, he couldn’t stop staring at you as you reached out to lightly touch Hyunji, your fingers grabbing her little hand in something akin to a handshake. He watched in awe as Hyunji immediately stopped her screams to look at you curiously, her head tilted to the side as she sniffled. Yoongi would be upset that his daughter seemed to be more calm with a stranger than him if it weren’t for how the soft smile on your face made him lose his train of thought. It made your cheeks puff up a little and he felt his heart skip a beat at the small movement.
“Hey Hyunji! I’m Y/N. How are you today,” you said, as Hyunji finally responded with what Yoongi had spent the whole year teaching her, moving her hand away and looking wary. Yoongi felt pride surge through him knowing that his daughter wasn’t going to let a stranger act all buddy-buddy with her. However, Hyunji’s rejection made a small frown appear on your lips, and Yoongi mentally willed his daughter to be nice to you.
You weren’t deterred however, and with another smile, you reached into your bag draped across your torso to retrieve a small stuffed toy shaped like a chocolate cookie type character. Yoongi’s eyes couldn’t help but follow the strap of your bag as it rested between your chest, perfectly aligned with the slight cleavage afforded by the dress. He gulped, trying to shake the flurry of thoughts that ran through his mind like how his face would feel if it was the strap.
“No handshake? Okay. How about a toy,” you asked, grinning and shaking the character in front of the toddler, your smile getting wider as she responded immediately reaching for the toy. So much for stranger danger training. Your voice turned high pitched and cartoonish as you pretended to be the toy, Hyunji immediately lighting up and laughing, the switch an instant 180. “Hi Hyunji, I’m Shooky! Nice to meet you!”
“Shooky!” she exclaimed, waving the toy towards Yoongi to show it to him gleefully. Yoongi smiled, cooing at his daughter. Turning towards you, he found you smiling at him, the same soft smile that made him senseless earlier. He wanted to thank you for saving him, for calming down his whirlwind of a daughter, but his mouth seemed to have a mind of its own.
“Is that a cookie? She’s not allowed to have cookies.”
“It’s a toy…” You seemed confused, rightly so, your eyebrows scrunched together as you blinked slowly, trying to decipher his meaning. Yoongi should’ve clarified, apologized, but he wouldn’t be himself if he didn’t double down.
“Shaped like a cookie. That’s a slippery slope.” He waved towards his daughter who seemed to be bashing the poor character against her leg, giggling. He realized his type of humour was not everyone’s cup of tea and so when he watched your lips down turn, he started to apologize only to be stopped by you smirking at him.
“So you’re saying a toy shaped like a cookie is a gateway drug to junk food,” you said, an eyebrow raised at him. Your wit made him cackle, an unattractive, loud scream of a laugh that immediately turned him red in embarrassment. God, he was such a loser! He cleared his throat conscious of the way you chuckled in amusement. He really needed to get out of the house more often.
“I’m sorry. I’m tired. Thank you, really. I had resigned to sitting here for a couple of hours.” He smiled up at you as you stood up and watched Hyunjin in endearment, who was now thoroughly engrossed in ‘Shooky’. Following your lead, Yoongi made to stand up, only to realize one of his feet had decided to fall asleep on him causing him to stumble back with a groan.
“Need a hand?” You raised a hand towards him, one that he took graciously, if only to feel how soft your hands were, and they were so soft. He groaned a little as he stood, taking extra care not to pull you to the ground with him, regardless of how much he wanted to. Jesus, Yoongi. Relax, dude.
“Thanks. I swear I’m not as old as I seem,” he deadpanned as you giggled a little at his bones cracking loudly.
“I didn’t think you were old.” You shrugged in response as he thought of ways to keep the conversation going. However, his mind was blank. You looked at him expectantly, and in true awkward fashion, Yoongi averted your gaze, instead looking at his daughter. His jaw dropped at the sight before him as he squinted at his offspring who seemed to be dozing happily in the stroller, clutching the cookie under her chin.
“She’s asleep… How did you do that?” He was dumbfounded. There was a reason Yoongi still seemed like he was sleep walking even two coffees down. Hyunjin had been having trouble falling asleep for weeks, waking him up at all hours of the night. The doctor said something about her delayed teething, but at this point Yoongi was convinced she just hated him for never letting her have sugar.
“No biggie. I work in childcare. I’ve been trained.” He looked at you in awe and you chuckled, patting him on the shoulder in an attempt to break him out of his daze. Could he fall in love at first sight? He was beginning to think, yes.
“Yes biggie! She never falls asleep,” he exclaimed, running a hand through his hair. “What kind of witchcraft…” He looked from you to his daughter, still in disbelief as he muttered, earning a hearty laugh from you in response.
“I’m Y/N, by the way,” you said, smiling as you closed your bag and fixed the strap, and he had to physically restrain his eyes from zeroing in on your chest again. He wasn’t going to lie, his eye balls felt strained at the effort.
“Yoongi. But seriously, thank you. I promise I’m not a bad father,” he provided, the shock now wearing off into anxiety as he thought about how much of a crap father he seemed to be so amazed at seeing his daughter fall asleep. You shook your head at him, a small sound of disapproval leaving your lips.
“I think you’re a great father, Yoongi. Don’t worry, toddlers are hard.” The praise made his heart stutter as blood rushed to his ears. The way you softly affirmed him made him feel seen. He didn’t know how much he needed to hear that, and to be honest, he felt a little emotional.
“I… thank you. I’d like to say you’re wrong but yeah, especially alone,” he spoke quietly. He didn’t know why he specified he was single. Maybe to see if you were as interested in him as he was in you. He didn’t think it was possible. Who would want to be with a single father who couldn’t even handle his own child in a public space? He felt his insecurities gnaw at him as he descended further into his head. His sudden silence may have alarmed you because before he could say anything, you touched his shoulder gingerly, the feel of your fingers scorching him through the thick layers of his sweater.
“Well you’re doing great. Professional opinion.” You smiled and Yoongi wanted to cry. Why were you so nice? He missed nice. He hadn’t had nice in a long time. He wanted to say something, ask you for your number, but that seemed too forward so he settled for gratitude, as you picked up his basket and handed it to him.
“Thank you…”
“Cute,” you giggled quietly. “It was nice meeting you Yoongi.”
Much to his disappointment, you started walking away. He really shouldn’t have gotten his hopes up. Hope always led to dismay.
“You too, Y/N. Really great.” He sighed, almost wistfully, resigned to the fact that he would probably never see you again as you waved and turned around.
“Say bye to Hyunji for me.”
“I will.”
----------
He looked at his daughter with pride as she stood in front of him, her dark hair in two slightly lopsided braids, that had taken Yoongi an hour to master through youtube tutorials. He couldn’t help but feel a little choked up as she excitedly pulled on his arm all but running towards her classroom, her frilly pink dress swishing with each step. He couldn’t believe she was old enough for school already - preschool, but still.
Yoongi tried to stop his brain from conjuring up pictures of her future; her graduating, her walking down the aisle. No, screw sleep, he didn’t need it. This was too fast. He held her hand tightly, reluctant to let her go as they reached the door.
What was he supposed to do now that she was going to be gone all day? He could almost feel himself tear up at the thought of how much he was going to miss her, and she was still holding her hand. Maybe he could ask the teacher if he could just sit and watch. Sure he had to be at his home office to start work in thirty minutes, but he could just say he suddenly fell ill.
However, all thoughts as well as his breath left him as his eyes fell on a familiar figure - the beautiful, kind woman from the grocery store. You.
This time around you were dressed in a dress that had little planets on it, looking a lot like Ms Frizzle with your hair in a top knot. Yoongi didn’t know whether to be ecstatic that universe had given him another opportunity to talk to you or be depressed because he knew he would never be with.
“Yoongi!” The joy and surprise in your voice made his face crinkle in a goofy smile that he had absolutely no control over, as he fiddled with his fingers, Hyunjin quickly abandoning him at the first sign of new friends. She definitely did not inherit her stellar social skills from him, as he stood there unable to form a response other than a shy utterance of your name.
“I was hoping to run into you again,” you said, beaming blindly and Yoongi blushed.
With his heartbeat accelerating, he realised that those eight words were probably the best he had ever heard.

The Best (and Worst) Stoner Cereals
Wilder Shaw of High Times Reports:
Is there anything more definitive of the munchies than a big bowl of cereal? We honestly don’t think so. It’s a perfect food, no matter the time of day. We think it’s high time we look around at the world of cereal and see just what’s going on.
Best Cereal in the History of Cereals: Cinnamon Toast Crunch
As you chomp down a spoonful of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, a river of sensations flow, dreamlike, across your palate: The delicate, yet precise balance of cinnamon and sugar; the flawless crunch of the toasted wheat and rice; the cold sensation of milk blended with a dash of nostalgia. Memories are triggered from a simpler time– flashbacks to little league, or school, or after 15 blunts. Every aspect of General Mills’ masterpiece combines to create a harmonious union of flavor, elevating you from the blandness of your normal life to a place far away from worries, strife, and away from trouble. The taste takes you up to the heavens, to the great beyond, towards light, to the edge of time and space, and into dimensions untold.
That’s what a bite of Cinnamon Toast Crunch is like.
Most Ingenious Idea: Reese’s Puffs
Reese’s Puffs, by all means, is cheating. Not sure how they got away with simply combining Cocoa Puffs and Peanut Butter Crunch, but they’ve done it — and they’ve done it well. Peanut butter and chocolate is a time-tested combo, and just like Reese’s candy, the cereal is nothing short of a grand slam.
Not Much Different than Eating Razor Blades: Cap’n Crunch
Cap’n Crunch is straight up painful. With every bite, you’re declaring war on the roof of your mouth. What’s the deal, Cap? Why does your cereal gotta be so dangerous? Surely there must be a way to retain the flavor without feeling like you’re eating a bowl of ninja throwing stars.
Best Mascot: Dig’em Frog
Dig’em is about as chill as it gets. He’s named after the way he feels about the very cereal he promotes. I have no choice but to assume Dig’em spent years trying to promote other cereals, but never really felt, in his heart, that they were the ones. But then Sugar Smacks came along (they’re called Honey Smacks now, for some reason) and Dig’em dug ‘em.
Oh, by the way, please don’t eat them right now. Unless you feel like getting salmonella.
Worst Mascot: Crazy Craving
What a true nightmare Crazy Craving is. The thing is fully rabid, and capable only of screaming, “ME WANT HONEYCOMB”. It’s like they managed to make Donie from The Wild Thornberrys even worse. Get Crazy Craving out of here, please.
The Chris & Liam Hemsworth Effect: Honey Nut Cheerios & Cheerios
No reason to sugar coat this (pun only semi-intended). Liam Hemsworth ain’t shit. Chris Hemsworth, on the other hand, is the dang God of Thunder. A great actor. A specimen of a man. Eyes like the sea after a storm. You may know Chris Hemsworth from such hits as The Avengersin which he plays Thor, or Snow White & The Huntsman, in which he plays the titular Huntsman. You may know Liam Hemsworth from such hits as The Expendables 2, in which he plays the character you forgot was in the movie, or The Hunger Games in which he plays the worst character in The Hunger Games.
The point is: Chris is Honey Nut Cheerios, and Liam is regular Cheerios. One is flawless, and one isn’t. I’m sorry. This is the way it is.
Biggest Sneak: Froot Loops
Froot Loops have been hiding two things from us for a very, very long time. For starters, fruit is spelled “froot”, which is despicable. Second, every single loop of froot that you eat is the exact same flavor. Very sneaky, Froot Loops. Very. Sneaky.
The Cereal That Even Weed Can’t Make Taste Good: Raisin Bran
If you make a food that contains raisins, and the raisins are the best part of the food, then guess what? I’m sorry, but you have made a bad food.
Biggest Waste of Potential: Oreo O’s
To this day, I still have no idea how this went so wrong. Oreos are incredible. Oreos dipped in Milk are double incredible. Oreo O’s — which contains an incorrect usage of an apostrophe — are dirty water trash, because they taste nothing like Oreos. Why did they remove the cream filling aspect in favor of tiny little cream filling-flavored marshmallow flecks? Whose idea was that? They should be sent to jail.
Biggest Dark Horse: Honey Bunches of Oats
Honey Bunches of Oats doesn’t really offer much in the way of an appealing name, but they more than make up for it with flavor. Do yourself a favor and slice up some fresh strawberries for your next bowl; it’s the stuff dreams are made of.
Most Overrated: Lucky Charms
That’s right. I said it. Lucky Charms are gross and it’s time we all admitted it. Maybe Lucky hypnotized everybody, because I legitimately don’t understand what there is to love about this cereal. Those soggy little marshmallows that taste like a stale version of meringue? Those flavorless bits of toasted oat that show up at a 75/25 ratio? The disgusting marshmallow milk that remains at the end? No thanks to all of that.
Most Underrated: Krave
Why isn’t Krave more popular? Originally launched in Israel as “Kariot”, Krave is a chocolate-filled cereal that never feels too overwhelming or rich. And if you’re one of those freaks who refuses to put milk in your cereal, Krave still tastes great without it.
Best Post-Cereal Milk: Cocoa Puffs
Cocoa Puffs is a make-your-own chocolate milk kit.
Worst Post-Cereal Milk: Fruity Pebbles
Fruity Pebbles is a make-your-own rainbow barf kit.
Best Replay Value: Alpha Bits
Alpha Bits are fun, and if you don’t think so you’re a narc. You can write your name, spell out all kinds of hilarious curse words, and a million other things. Just keep your energy light, or you might start thinking about Hi Dad Soup from A Goofy Movie, and oh no, oh no no no no, ugh, great, now I’m crying.
How Did They Mess it Up: Cookie Crisp
Cookie Crisp seems to have taken a page from the Oreo handbook, because once again, I don’t know where this went wrong. A bunch of chocolate chip cookies in a big bowl of milk sounds like a sure-fire hit, right? Then why is Cookie Crisp so spectacularly missing the mark? You’re better off just putting a bunch of those Trader Joe’s chocolate chip cookies into a big bowl and pouring some milk over the top.
Might as Well be a Basket of Sticks: Shredded Wheat
Shredded Wheat should not be consumed by a human being. Breakfast cereal is supposed to make us feel like a bunch of little kids eating sugar, not like a bunch of cattle grazing on raw wheat.
Best Slogan: Reptar Crunch
Hey, every single cereal company ever, have fun coming up with a better slogan than “He’s big! He’s green! He’s just in time for breakfast!”

Official Walkthrough + Minor Update
Tumblr media
Hello and Happy Valentines' Week!
Thank you so much for playing Froot Basket: Dark Chocolate! I have just finished putting the walkthrough together. It contains major spoilers for the game, so please use with caution if you do not want to be spoiled.
You can find the walkthrough here, or you can download the PDF file when you download the game.
This walkthrough was much harder to put together than FBV's one because there are no "routes" that lead to specific endings. Rather, this game has achievements. Your experience of the game is supposed to be a little different with every playthrough based on choices you make. Though, I'll admit, it can become redundant :''D  Nevertheless, I hope you will or have already enjoyed it.
Also, I've updated the game! Here's the changelog for Version 1.1:
Added "click here" prompt to clicking mini games
Made some minor changes to dialogue

Introducing Jordan, Froot Basket: Dark Chocolate's customizable love interest! Change their name, hair color, and skin tone. And soon, their voice!
So excited to have Gina Leigh Smith, Christian Cruz, and Misele Hoang providing Jordan's voices!
Read the Devlog below for more!
Hello~
I can't believe November is over. I swear it just started... But anyway, Happy Holidays! Hope you've all been well and chillin'! I'm so excited to introduce you to our new cast members: Gina Leigh Smith, Christian Cruz, and Misele Hoang! They're all providing their amazing talents to voice Jordan, Froot Basket: Dark Chocolate's customizable love interest!
If you've played the current build, you might've notice that I've changed Jordan's look a bit. I feel their sprite in the current build doesn't match what I really want for Jordan. I think I drew them a little too masculine. Jordan is androgynous and I hope their new sprite better reflects that.
Since Jordan's name, hair, and skin tone are semi-customizable in this game, I wanted to give players the opportunity to also choose Jordan's voice! Gina will be providing Jordan's androgynous voice, Christian will be portraying their masculine voice, and Misele will be Jordan's feminine voice! I can't wait for you all to hear them in action!
Currently, I'm still working on adding all the voiced lines to the game. There's also some other artwork I'd like to update and some new art I'd like to add. As stated in the previous devlog, I'd like to update everything all at once (the final voiced version and updated walkthrough). I probably won't get to it by the end of the year since there's some other projects I'm working on, but I hope you're all looking forward to it!
This will probably be my last update on Itch for the year. You can catch me on social media for other project updates or for my silliness, but if not, I'll see you in 2024!
Much Aloha, Ari

I think an argument can be made that Momo is actually in love with Sutoro because he's obsessed with him. Foreal. I mean, the amount of times he stops to think about Sutoro rivals how often he thinks about Jordan.
Enemies to lovers. I'd love that for them lol

Your favorite yandere visual novels? PS:can you reccomend some for me?
Hmmm, good question. I think most of the yandere visual novels I like tend to be ones that are less well known since I've played so many (as a person who has to feed my blog), I tend to like more unique yandere games instead of those which are more popular. And also anything that has a sub yandere (personality or otherwise) tends to have my heart as well. That being said, there are some more popular yanderes on here too just because I do like some of those ones as well.
Cemetery Mary - I'm procrastinating on doing a recommendation on this one because I want to also play Blackout Hospital since it goes a bit more into the yandere, but I really like how this story is and how is shows the reveal of the yandere. Mary is also very cute and a very interesting and fun main character.
The Snake's Taken a Spouse - this one is r18 and plays more like Degrees of Lewdity, and the artwork isn't that good, but Shimil is... charming. I like him and I feel bad for everything that he has to go through. It's cool seeing how he tries his best for you.
Sweetest Valentine/Where Two Flowers Meet - I'm lumping these two together mostly because I just like the way that Syllphan writes stories. They both are very different from each other but have pretty interesting takes on yanderes. I need to double check if For Amerta has one, but even if it doesn't I'll probably still love the game.
Karamu - Karamu... is just really well done. I really like stylized games and Karamu does it wonderfully with it's blue color scheme and comic book like aesthetic. Plus we get to slowly unveil the mystery the main character has gotten herself into.
Stuck in a Yandere Visual Novel.... Help!! - from what I played in the first demo, I really like the comedy in this one. It knows the yandere trope pretty well so I like how they play around with it. Everything is kind of in a cutesy pink aesthetic, which is also a fun thing. I really need to get around to finishing the game.
ITYH: Horror Otome/Saccharine - Saccharine is less of a visual novel, but like with Syllhan, I really like Amiralo's writing style. Most of their stories are bittersweet with not so happy endings in a lot of them, and very interesting yanderes overall.
Mushroom Oasis - I'm pretty guilty of trying to get a bunch of people to play the game but listen, Mycheal is very cute and I really like his design. The creator is still working on it and it has become one of the most popular yandere games under the yandere tag on itch.io, so that's probably a good sign right?
Froot Basket Valentine / Froot Basket Dark Chocolate - Dark Chocolate is a prequel to Valentine, but they are both fun to play through. Valentine is a bit more goofy since you see everyone's heads as fruits for the most part while Dark Chocolate is far darker. But it is cool seeing how the yandere progresses in each of these stories.
Heart Fragment - very well made game, though Kay is kind of a light but clingy yandere. And boy do I love my clingy yanderes. Still this is probably one of those games that we play more for the story rather than the yandere. Still would totally recommend it because it is very, VERY well made.
The Science of Staying Awake - big fan of the concept of someone- Something that so desperately wants to hold you but also drives you insane if you do? That's very cool and the horror on that is really creepy if you think about it and also a bit sad.
Kimbark Street - I like seeing the point of view of yanderes, or just any character that is on the more evil side. You can really see how their obsession drives them and what they will do to get what they want, whether the person they love knows it or not.
You can probably see I don't have as many dark yandere games on this list, which is mostly because while I do enjoy darker yandere content (in terms of murder sims and whatnot) I also am not the target audience for them since I love to torture my yanderes, not be tortured by them. Still, I can admit that they are fun to play through. I have a lot more that I like, but here is hopefully a good list of games that you too might enjoy.

I wonder if it's ok to ask but are there any yandere games you're planning on doing a review in the future ? (I'm looking for some to play but it's hard to find them)
Oof, man there is a lot. Since the #yanjam is still in session, there's been a lot of different entries slowly being added (I'm wondering if I can even finish my game, hahaha. I hope so.) as well as a general influx of r18 visual novels as well. I can give you some that I'll be doing in the future that you can check out.
I'll be separating them with r18 games and regular games since r18 visual novels are basically it's own genre at this point.
R18 Yandere Visual Novels
Yandere Island/Weathering Feelings by @mari-0w0 - my friend Mari's two games. Weathering Feelings is mostly just a quiz currently, but will include three different therapists you can date, while Yandere Island has a demo out with up to one day currently out.
Ai-yo Kogane san by @crystalcrynight - a pretty expansive game considering that it's only one day so far. About Mizuna waking up and losing their memory, with Gold who claims to be their best friend.
Duality by @dualityvn - about dating two yanderes that share the same body, Keith, a florist and Tenebris, a blue monsterish looking guy. I'm finally being fed with sub yanderes, thank goodness.
Broken Colors by @inkly-heart - I was waiting for this one to come out and boy does it deliver. Even as a demo it's very well polished, but I've always been based since I've liked their artwork for a while.
Bared Teeth by @baredteethvn - as well as the other game currently in development called @flavorfeelvn whenever it comes out. Currently a bit short, but it's a cute game so far.
Sterile Desires by @sterile-desires - I've been sort of sitting on this one for a while after my first playthrough cuz boy was I not expecting whatever happened to happen. I promise I will finish it and actually write a review on it. It's pretty good so far though.
Honey Hotline by @ringringringbananafone - as well as other games that they've made (though the yandere in those are nonbinary, but still fun to play). Fone is a pretty cool yandere and he has a cute cat, enough said.
...and like a lot more I have yet to play. Pretty much every male yandere game in the yanjam I will likely write a review on, and if you see me following your game blog, chances are I'm waiting on a demo or have a review of your demo floating around in my drafts. And if not.... Don't worry. I will find you. There's no escape.
Yandere Visual Novel
The Science of Staying Awake by @tsosagame - a surreal but really cool game and also finally I'm being fed pathetic yanderes again. The yandere in this one is actually pretty terrifying in some ways despite being a pathetic mess.
Please Don't Hate Christmas by rice love coffee - this one is completely Christmas themed which I thought was pretty cool. Since it was translated from Chinese, there is a lot of SNOWFLAKE ISLAND that you get to read, which is fun.
Colorful Mirai: Spooky Edition by Honey Bunny -this one is actually a spin off of the Colorful Mirai games and (from what I can tell) contains two yanderes. Very well made, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Froot Basket: Dark Chocolate by @xxmissarichanxx - the prequel to Froot Basket: Valentine in the pov of the yandere himself. They really outdid themselves with this game and I'm waiting for the walkthrough to make sure I got as much out of the game before writing a full review.
Tentador Leches by Karmic Punishment - as well as In Your Nature, whenever it comes out. This one is a bit more ambiguous, but I thought it was at least a pretty fun time.
Dawn of the Damned by @melancholy-marionette - I swear, Marionette, I have been playing your games, I've been procrastinating on writing recs for them. As per usual, a fun game with male yanderes in it, what more could you want.
Pretty Boy Panic by @bingzi-pancakelord - creator of Pocket Lovers! about having to deal with a bunch of guys that live around your apartment, who are yandere for you. I finished Li's route and then promptly kept getting distracted, so I'll need to play through the other two's routes soon.
Even besides the ones I know have yandere in it, there are also a bunch I have to actually play to make sure there is one since I like to make sure that there is one. Sometimes it's just guessing, but it does occasionally pull out a pretty cool game! Anyways, I hope this is a good list for you to start out on. I'm just going to sit on my 70+ drafts and hope that I can finish my game in time.
