It is so sad that we have lost a great one; the man that single handedly brought the international attention to the United States of America as a footballing nation when he joined Cosmos. Tag it unprecedented and you would have nailed it right where it matters. His Excellency, Ambassador Fransisco Carlos Soares Luz conferred with the title of JAGUNMÓLÚ ÀṢÀ OLÚ-ÒJÈ and his better half, Her Excellency Mrs. Ivana Panizzi Luz, YÈYÉ JAGUNMÓLÚ ÀṢÀ OLÚ-ÒJÉ. This pioneering act of foresight by a Yorùbá monarch brings HRM Ọba Adéyínká Adéṣínà Àkòfẹ́ Ọbáwálé; Arólú(I) Olú-Òjé Òjénpetu Yorùbá Community of Gadumọ Kingdom, to another kind of limelight among other royal fathers. During the conferment, he laid so much emphasis on the exceptional attention the veteran diplomat has been giving to all that concern culture. He has further strengthened and nurtured the earstwhile strong bond between the Yorùbá Community and the Federative Republic of Brazil and facilitated a greater traffic between the two countries. These were parts of the reason the title was conferred on him and his wife. The Cultural and Educational Attaché to the Consulate General of Brazil, Mr. Adéníran Arímọrọ̀ also got the title of Fàṣàgboyè Olú-Òjé in recognition of his tireless cultural exploits. Other chiefs that were honoured with a title were: Ọmọọba Chief Adésọjí Tàlàbí (MD/CEO Fritots Global Communications PTY Ltd.) - Mójútáṣà Olú-Òjé; Ms. Onome Ogo-Ovwigho (Onome Signature) - Àṣàáwùnmí Olú-Òjé and Ms. Mary Onete Kasim - Àṣàágbèmí Olú-Òjé. The monarch in company of his wife also conferred the titles of Àṣàáyẹ̀lú Olú-Òjé and Gbáṣàníyì Olú-Òjé on Messrs Ísíákà Ọláyínká Aìná (Easy Kampala) and Akíndiméjì Samuel Ọ̀násànyà respectively. Their Excellencies Ambassador Fransisco Carlos Soares Luz and his wife expressed their surprise, joy and appreciation to the monarch, his Olorì, his chiefs and community. Not leaving out the staffs and the facilitators of the historical event; FROSEA GLOBAL ASSOCIATED LIMITED for deeming it fit to expose his gentle exploits to the royalty. This weekend, I think we can talk about some not too serious areas of our Brazilian thoroughfare. International Women's Day (8th March) & one of the Mother's day (27th March) have come and gone (can't figure out why we have 2 in a year though) but this post shall mention a couple of them. Courtesy Pastor Kúnlé Ọláònípẹ̀kun, the Lagos to Doha hospitality aboard Qatar Airways was quickly dwarfed by the chunks of well prepared ragout we all had to munch on - sem vinho tinto - at Hamad International. 18 hours later, we switched to firewood smoked guinea fowl and the very best of garri Ìjẹ̀bú in the reserved 27th floor apartment of Praça Pedro Lessa 110 apartamento, Centro Histórico de São Paulo. Even when we men went shopping and brought home a bottle of vinegar instead of cooking oil, the ladies got a way round it and made us a great brunch before we set out for the 7 hours bus ride to Rio de Janeiro via Tietê. Our short stop at Guaratinguetá was one of the highpoints of the bus trips as we made new friends (women too); caused a stir on tiktok with the "Onitsha, Owerri, Aba" video; enjoyed some exceptional cuisine (quail egg was bae) and mentally prepared ourselves for the knackered mode that accompanied us to Campo Grande RJ, final destination. @onomystery1 @thebennybillschaperone muito obrigado. At the mention of 'Samba School' the first name that pops into mind is "Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Portela" with the open winged Eagle looming large. A short walk around the corner from Madureira Shopping Mall, you are ushered into the impressive blue and white themed Portela compound by the conspicuous eagle atop the mount facing the gate and the sculptured of Hildemar Diniz (Monarco) honorary president of Portela bust on your left. A sense of surrealism sets in as Paulo Renato Vaz, the Director of Marketing welcomes the representatives of Awúrelà Frosea Afrobrazilian Group into his mildly air-conditioned office. We are about to experience - first hand - what makes the unprecedented 22 times winner of the Rio Carnival ultimate price and an institution recognised as an intangible heritage of the State of Rio de Janeiro, as published in the official gazette, tick. As we birth the concept to strengthen the cross-continental Afrobrazilian dream in that same office that screams history; with a sense of attention to minute details. Kábíèsí Ṣàngókúnlé Aláyàndé, Akíndiméjì Ọ̀násànyà, Victor Jesus and Òfàrere Omídire all doing excellently well to bridge the language gap. I may choose to privately iron issues out with anyone who offends me, but will rather laud the laudable acts and attitude of people publicly. I got introduced to Nelson Latif by the office of the Consul General of Brazil in Lagos through the Cultural & Educational Attaché to my boss. I was told to liaise with him as his band, Trio Raiz would be headlining the Brazilian Bicentennial Independence Celebrations. From the first conversation we had, I knew this is not a regular "international star" musician. Fast-forward to Tuesday (a day prior to Sete de Setembro) I was having a late lunch at the restaurant beside the poolside when I recognised Mestre Tolomim a few tables from mine and called Nelson immediately. He picked and I said "I am right behind you." In spite of challenges we had with regards to logistics, visas, flights scheduling, etc., these amazing souls patiently and painstakingly took me through their music (Brazilian music can be dicey) on the same night at a corner of the Sky Restaurant with Marcelo laying out the songs and Nelson writing the changes. Many thanks to the Consulate for pulling this off; HE Francisco Soares Carlos Luz, HE Ivana Panizzi, HE Luisivan Vellar Strelow, the Consular staffs, FROSEA Global Associates, Brazilian Descendants Association, Eko Hotel & Suites, Nordic Hotel, Dotun Israel, FRITOTS Band Tayo Conga & the Tumbadora Band, Prime Qwest Band, Eko Samba Community, Eko Brass Band, Nigeria Football Supporters Club.
