It's finished! The newest addition to the Archives. With this family tree, I've tried to tie together all characters mentioned throughout the franchise that have family ties with Anna and Elsa or their parents. And there are quite a lot of them! The world's first exposure to Frozen from the teaser trailer gave almost no indication of what the plot of the movie was actually about. Hans Christian Andersen's “The Snow Queen" is an episodic journey of a young girl trying to save her friend from the powerful, but lonely Snow Queen. Frozen had whispers of that... but it turned out to be a very different story.

The film, instead, revolved around the of-age heroine, Princess Anna of Arendelle, and her journey alongside an unlikely group of allies to save her kingdom from the wintry magic of her sister, Queen Elsa. Anna does this by lovingly thawing Elsa’s frozen heart.

It was released on November 27, 2013.

It was different.

It was a massive hit.

It also brought several groundbreaking things along with it. First, it was only the second movie from Disney to be animated with the help of CGI (the first being Tangled released in 2008). Second, Frozen would go on to become the highest grossing animated film of all time (overcome only by its successor Frozen II). Within a short time, it received an unprecedented amount of awards, including an Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014.

But most of all, through the love of the sisters Elsa & Anna, Frozen shared the revolutionary message that true love can exist anywhere and with anyone.

Two hypocritical opinions that I find funniest from some parts of the Frozen Fandom about Elsa's romantic life:

"Some people in the Frozen Fandom: Elsa will not have a girlfriend in the upcoming films because the Frozen franchise is about self-acceptance and non-romantic love.

Same person: I'm dying to see KristAnna's wedding in "Frozen 3." I hope Anna and Kristoff have lots of kids."

"Some people in the Frozen Fandom: I hate that they keep forcing Elsa and Honeymaren to be a couple. Elsa didn't even have friends and the first woman her age she meets in a film people are already rooting for them to be a couple.

Meanwhile Anna in "Frozen 1": agreed to marry Hans who was the first man her age she met in a film, and then started dating Kristoff who was the second man her age she met in the film."

What I never wanted was a situation in which they’d make a Frozen 3 that would act like a perfect conclusion to the franchise, but it would be a box office hit, so they’d decide later to make an unnecessary 4th one to make more money.

What I also wouldn’t want, however, is a Frozen 3 with such an ambitious and complex story idea that ends up overly condensed, rushed or simplified so that it can be cut to the standard 90 minutes, not given the space to breathe and develop properly.

So what does intrigue and excite me is this idea that they’ve come out with an idea so full of potential, with so much possibility to explore and expand the characters and their world, that they’re saying “what this story needs to be told at its best might have to be two films”. It sounds like they’re listening to what the story needs, and giving it that.

The potential is overwhelming and I’m so intrigued.

The flora and fauna of Frozen!

For our first new-ish entry to the Archive, allow me to introduce you to the flora and fauna of Frozen. Most fans probably recognise Sven the reindeer and the wolves from the first movie and the sunflowers in Frozen fever but did you know there are over 70 unique species of animals and plants featured, mentioned or referenced throughout the franchise?

In late 2022, I made a very short-lived series on Reddit covering two types of plants and one type of animal found in the Frozen movies. I felt it was time to expand the list a little…

I hope this will be the most comprehensive list of flora and fauna found in Arendelle and beyond ever made and I hope it will be of use to someone! I’m sure there are plenty of artists and writers out there who want to enrich their own Frozen world and hopefully this list can help!

I have arranged the list following a similar structure to my previous project The Frozenverse, starting off covering the movies and novels and then gradually moving into different story-material.

HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY TO ALL FROZEN FANS!!! 🌻❄️❤️🥳🎂🍰🎆

I struggle to believe it's really been 10 years (though for me it's only been 9). This franchise has truly turned my life around and I wouldn't be the person I am today without it. Anna and Elsa were and are the light of my life and I can barely wait to see where their story goes next!

I feared we'd never see the sisters again on the big screen after F2 so the announcement of the continuation of the Frozen saga this year truly came as a gift after more than a year without any new Frozen content.

Here's to another 10 years!
