Kui tugged at the strap of their satchel bag nervously after ringing the doorbell, and began speaking the second the door opened, in short quiet bursts, pausing as their thoughts bounced from topic to topic but never stopping long enough to actually relax. "Hey, um. I'm sorry, feels really strange to just show up at your house. But you showed up at mine, I guess—but mine's also my work, so... whatever, I picked up some pastries." There were currently no pastries in sight. That required an answer. "I left them at the cafe by accident. I should've texted or something, but I forgot that too." They dug out a small bag from their larger one, wrapped with a lace ribbon. "I got you some heirloom veggie seeds, though? I looked up what they were but I think it just means they're gonna be... weird? Old? You probably know better than me." They took a breath. "Anyway, I'm back so, I'm like, checking to make sure people I like aren't like... hurt, or too fucked up from the whole... being extorted and tortured... thing. Some of them are, though, obviously. Are you?"

Congratulations, Jonah!
Again, Amrita may not know what is the expectation for wedding gifts, but she can’t afford expensive kitchen ware for Jonah and Rohan, so what’s the second best? Homemade gifts, of course! Amrita crocheted two turtles to represent Jonah and Rohan. The turtle represented Rohan is a leatherback turtle, and the turtle represented Jonah is a Napali sea turtle. She also did little bow ties and flower collars for them to match. And she bough Jonah a turtle brooch. Congrats! (OOC: Let’s pretend I sent this what two months ago? No idea what time is. But the gift arrived on time in character)
Jonah didn’t open the present right away, but when he did, his attempts to not tear up failed spectacularly and was extremely touched by her gesture. Thought she might think it’s not little, it means a lot. Turtles have a special place in his heart, and now to know he has the crotched ones that match with Rohan, he feels so lucky to receive it. And yes, he will absolutely teach her how to surf.

Even as Kui held their breath, they knew they'd been spotted, and the embarrassment took them right out. Invisibility was a cover, a coping mechanism, and in some moments like this one, very much out of their control. Safely hidden once again, albeit surrounded by more shrubbery and completely aware that their presence was noted, they huddled there in the dirt as the violinist resumed playing. Kui spent the next five minutes very slowly shifting their weight, trying to keep the movement of the leaves around them to a subtle whisper, before giving up and darting off in a shower of dirt and twigs. Luckily, the flight back home was swift and unhindered, but they didn't feel their breathing return to a normal rhythm for a full hour after they'd snapped the window shut behind them, drawn the shades, and curled up in their bed.

Amrita saw as the butterflies shifted to small ghosts, cartoonish ghosts. Her confusion deepened. Would ghosts like to use those visuals? Also, how powerful were ghosts anyway? "Interesting..." She mumbled, as she played the melody slowly. Much more slower than she would otherwise. It felt oddly comforting though, the longer she played and the longer she watched the ghosts moved to the note, the more at peace she became with it. Part of her wondered if witches could do such things, if so, she desperately hoped she could learn how. Then the ghosts got violins, and a bright smile formed in her lips. That was quite cute! She thought as she continued to play, closing her eyes for a moments before opening them just in time to see someone appear ever so slightly. "Hello?" She called out, stopping her practice for a second before she saw the figure disappear again. "Um... okay." The thud got her attention, but Amrita stood there frozen. Maybe they didn't want to be seen. "I'm not sure if you're a ghost or a witch or fae-" The realization cam in late, she had read that fae could do illusions. "But um... it was really pretty. What you did. If you don't want to be seen that's cool. I won't force you." She felt a bit silly talking to nothing but a bush, but curiosity always lead to interesting developments. "So if you don't want to be seen, I can just keep playing. I hope you're alright." Did ghosts feel pain? The more she thought about it, the more she was certain that this was someone who was alive and breathing. Someone who could experience pain. Still, Amrita would show them the same grace she would a ghost. And after a minute of silence from her end, she began playing again.

Where: The Toy Drive Who: @dvsconocvdo (Amrita)
Poppy hauled the heavy bag over using her duplicate to the table where the last few toys were being made. “How are they coming along?” She asked curiously, brushing the blonde hair out of her face. She looked down at the toy that Amrita was making. “If you want any help I’d be happy too” Offering in the hopes that the other would take it, it would give Poppy a chance to talk to the new witch in town.

Trekking Destinations for 1st half of 2017 2016 was a life changing year for me. I quit my job and changed the stream all together, started this blog, traveled to and explored around 10 new places and moreover I did my first trek in May 2016 and that has changed me completely. Having started my trekking journey with Deoria Tal - Chandrashila in May followed by Kheerganga in August and now Triund and Jalori Pass - Serlosar Lake in December, I thought of compiling a list of 24 trekking destinations for the 12 months of 2017,  in India which one should definitely think of doing as suggested by travelers and trekkers themselves. January Chadar Trek By Amrita & Agni ( Tale of 2 backpackers ) A trek in January definitely involves extreme cold temperatures and hiking in the snow. But Chadar Trek is unique in itself as here you are walking over ice. The Zanskar River that flows with such aplomb during the summers calms down and freezes during this time of the year. A blanket of ice or 'chadar' forms over the river, and you have a trek route that can be an experience of your lifetime. Surviving temperatures as low as -10 degrees in the morning and -35 degrees at night is no mean feat. Chadar has some of the harshest but beautiful campsites. You will encounter frozen waterfalls at places that will simply leave you wonder struck. The breathtaking views of golden mountains, frozen waterfalls, hanging icicles and the babble of river few inches below your feet is sure to mesmerize you.   Though the Chadar Trek seems difficult, but it is definitely manageable. The trek itself is not very arduous, but the conditions are definitely challenging. Chadar trek is one of the best winter treks and those who have done Chadar has an extra aura around them. It is not every day, you get a chance to walk over a frozen river! Read more here.   Facebook I Twitter  I Instagram   Dhak Bahiri Trek By Abhinav Singh ( A Soul Window ) Dhak Bahiri Trek in Sahyadris is easily one of the toughest treks not only in Maharashtra but in India. It starts on an easy note but the end leg of the trek is life threatening. Imagine dangling from a loose wooden log without any safety harness. One mistake and you fall in thousands of feet of sheer drop. Even the approach to that log was dangerous. I negotiated the narrow rock patches trusting only my will power and the thin metal wire mounted on the rock. The inclination was around 70 – 80 degrees throughout. The path was so narrow that throughout the last leg, the half of my sole was on the rock, the other half in the air. Many people give up at this point. This trek is infamous for being abandoned in the last leg. I put my life at stake and climbed up the moving wooden log gingerly. The feeling I got on reaching the top was unparalleled. I have done some Himalayan treks too but the satisfaction and self worth I got here was unprecedented. What made the trek even more memorable was that on the previous night, I along with my co trekkers foraged the wood from the village and cooked our own food. What’s more? We slept in the open air and realized that the villages of Maharashtra can be pretty cold too in winters. I will always be proud of accomplishing this trek. Facebook I Twitter I Instagram   February  Triund By Shubham Mansingka ( Travel Shoe Bum )   Hiking to Triund in February is the perfect way to begin exploring the wonderful world of trekking in the Himalayas. The altitude at Triund top is approx. 3000m. AMS is usually known to affect people at higher altitudes. The path is well marked and there is little chance of someone losing their way. February is a great time to visit Triund, it is usually snowed out in February. Triund can easily be done as a day trek. It is roughly 6-7 kms from Galu Temple and takes 3-4 hours to climb up and two hours to come back. There is a lovely ridge on top to walk around and the views are spellbinding. Basic dhabas and facilities are available all along the trail from Galu Temple to Triund Top. There are two lodges for travellers to spend the night at Triund; and trekkers can also sleep in dhabas for a small fee. Read more here. Facebook  I Twitter  I Instagram   March The Three Passes Trek By Johann Kuruvilla ( Escaping Life)   Nepal is no stranger to mountains and some of the world’s highest mountains lie within its boundaries in the Himalayas. There are a lot of treks to choose from here, but the one that is the most challenging of them all is the Three Passes Trek. The trekking season in Nepal starts in March, when the winter slowly gives way to the colourful spring season which ends on a high note just before the Indian monsoon. The 21 plus day trek offers you unmatchable views of the Everest region as you hike up and down the rugged terrain and through some of the remotest high altitude Sherpa villages in the world also experiencing their culture on the way.   The trek takes you through, the Kongma La (5545m/18192ft), the Cho La (5420m/17782ft) and the Renjo La (5340m/17528ft); high passes that connect the valleys and villages of the Khumbu Himal and a bonus trip to the Mt. Everest Base Camp (5364m/17598ft) on the south side. If you feel that’s not enough, you can even add three high trekking peaks along with the high passes, namely Chukkung Ri (5550m/18209ft), Kalapatthar (5643m/18513ft) and Gokyo Ri (5357m/17575ft). This trek is the ultimate Everest experience! Facebook I Twitter I Instagram April Deoria Tal-Chopta-Tungnath-Chandrashila Trek By Jitaditya Narzary ( The Travelling Slacker )   Tungnath is the highest of the Panch Kedars in terms of altitude. However, it is surprisingly easy to trek to, especially on a good summer day. But make no mistake, it is a hugely rewarding trek for all seasons. The summers are great as always but the snow trek in the winter has its own charm. However, my favorite is the spring season around April when the hills get covered with red and pink rhododendron blossoms.       The other USP of the region is the easy sighting of colourful Himalayan Monals, the state bird of Uttarakhand . From Tungnath, one can also trek upwards to the Chandrashila peak or go for another short trek to Deoria Tal. This trek starts from the Sari Village which is just a few kilometers away from Chopta. Read more here.   Facebook  I Twitter  I Instagram   Kedarkantha  By Team Interlude Journey   The Kedarkantha trek in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand enthrall both the novice and the experienced trekkers alike.  The trek begins from a quaint village named Sankri in the Supin valley. The drive to Sankri from Dehradun is one of the most beautiful journeys in the Himalayas with valleys, dense forests, and rivers giving you company all along. On reaching Sankri, you will be greeted by the pleasant fragrance of apple blooms in the orchards all around. The trekking trail starting from Sankri takes you along apple orchards, dense pinewoods, rhododendron forests, green meadows, lakes, and ridges before you summit the snow clad Kedarkantha peak. The camp sites  on the Kedarkantha trek are set  in some of the most picturesque locations. While the Juda ka Talab campsite is set on the banks of the twin lakes, the Kedarkantha basecamp is located in a beautiful clearing offering breathtaking views of the valley and the snow covered peaks. Once you summit the Kedarkantha at 12,500 ft, you will see some of the most popular mountain peaks like Swargarohini, Bandar Poonch, Kalanag, and Yamunotri ranges.  The best part of this trek is, you get to experience all this awesomeness in just 4 days. Read more here.   Facebook  I Twitter  I Instagram   May Kalpeshwar and Rudranath Trek By Mahesh Semwal ( Semwal On Wheels )   The Trek starts from Helang which is around 10 Kms before Joshimath. The first day trek covers 20 kms out of which 12-13 kms is steep. The final destination if the day is Dumak which is approached via Kalpeshwar. On the way one crosses villages of Lyari Panchdhara and Dhyan Badri. After visiting the Dhyan Badri temple one continues the journey to reach the beautiful village of Devgram which is 1.5 kms from Dhyan Badri .Devgram serves as the base camp for Kalpeshwar and Bansi Naryan trek.   To reach Kalpeshwar one has to cross the river Kalpganga. Kalpeshwar is at a height of 2080 m above sea level and considered to be the fifth temple in Panch Kedar circuit of lord Shiva. Kalpeshwar is also the only temple of Panch Kedar which is open throughout the year. In Kalpeshwar Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of Hair. After crossing the dense forest, bugyals & villages one reaches Dumak which is located at a height of 2400 m. Next day the Final destination is Pannar Bugyal, which is also one of the beautiful Bugyals of Uttarakhand. It is situated at a height of 3500 mtrs and located 15 kms from village Dumak. On the last day day one gets to vist the temple of Rudarnath, on the way one also crosses Pitardhar which is at a height of 3800 m above sea level and is also the highest point of this trek.   Rudarnath is considered to be the fourth and toughest among all Panch kedar, situated at a height of 3500 m above sea level. The Mukh or the face of the bull is worshiped here. Facebook  I Twitter   June Pin Bhaba Pass By Himalayan Wanderer Trekking in the quiet Bhaba Valley of Kinnaur has been a routine for the local Shepherds and small groups of experienced Backpackers. The enchanting valley has remained off radars of Commercial Guided Trek Operators, until now. The lush Forest cover of Silver Birch, Pine and Oak Trees all around. We saw one of the most healthiest Himalayan Forest in Western Himalayas.   Pin Bhaba Pass is one of the shortest trans-Himalayan treks that Kinnaur has to offer. Its significance is understood by those who have done Pin Parvati Pass, it’s neighboring bigger sister trek. Entering the enchanting Bhaba Valley of Kinnaur. The Bhaba River glades through the valley, nourishing its fragile ecosystem. It eventually merges with Satluj River as its drains out of the Valley. To put it in perspective, Pin Bhaba Pass is a ‘Mini Pin Parvati Pass’ Trek in the making. It captures all the exciting aspect of Pin Parvati Trek in a shorter time span. It is power packed with a stark contrast of an evergreen Bhaba Valley of Kinnaur and the mysterious Cold Desert of Pin Valley. It has picturesque camping grounds that are only inhabited by passing shepherd folks. Route finding, river crossing, traversing a near 5,000-meter snow pass is routine. The views from the pass are identical to what one gets from Pin Parvati Pass. In just 5 days of trekking, you get the money worth of an 11-day expedition trek that is Pin Parvati.   Read more here. Facebook I Twitter I Instagram   Zanskar By Shubham Mansingka ( Travel Shoe Bum ) I didn't quite believe it when the locals kept asking if I was a foreigner; they said no-one walked alone on this path - Let alone an Indian. The entry register in Kargyak Village (where you have to write your details) contained names of a handful of people who had crossed the 5090m high snow-bound Shingo La in 2015 - all of them from other countries. I was a mini celebrity by the time I had reached Padum (with torn shoes and what not!) It had been a lifelong dream to slow travel to Zanskar, perhaps the last vestige of Tibetan Buddhism in its true form that resulted in this epic journey, solo - without a guide or a porter.   And I became the only Indian to trek from Lahaul to Zanskar (A 7-8 day trek). This was around the (end of July-beginning of August) last year.   Read more here.   Facebook  I Twitter  I Instagram Contributed By: Arnav Mathur For travel related queries, outstation cab booking, bike rentals, Hotel bookings or Group Tours ; Kindly contact us at http://justwravel.com/contact or  call +91-9205725727 About the Author Arnav, is a civil engineer by profession and a hardcore foodie and a travel aficionado at heart. Kui smiled when Amrita offered her own apology to the grass. "It's never bad to be polite, even to things that don't need it," they said sagely. "I talk to my sewing all the time, when no one's around, but I'm not always so kind to it. Sometimes stitches need to know their place." Amrita's presence was soothing, unobtrusive and undemanding, it wasn't so difficult to talk to her without regretting every word, they'd found. "I don't know why, but if I see something appealing, I always want to know how to recreate it myself. Sometimes I use mimicry to get a better understanding, but it's not the same as truly putting in the work." They tilted their head. "An illusion of myself... I think would be harder. You know, like how when you look in a mirror, you're not seeing yourself the way everyone does? I think it wouldn't be so convincing, even if I thought it was, but it'd be an intriguing experiment..." One they didn't know if they'd attempt in front of another person, at least not at first. "I can always be invisible, but... I don't know how I'd face anyone afterwards, I guess. Please don't do anything that'll make you pass out," they added with some alarm. "That's so scary to imagine, what if you got stuck underground?" The power it'd take to do that, and the fact that Amrita seemed to think she could do it if pressed, was incredible to Kui. "Hmm... You're probably right. I can't lie, so I wouldn't even be able to give a good alibi if we were caught," they admitted. "And lying to the people in charge of all this?" Kui snorted a little laugh. "Forget it. I don't think Nyra would be mad, but it'd almost be worse to just be disappointing or cause people to worry, you know..." They sighed, and picked up their work again. "At least we have flowers," they added, settling on the consolation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amrita looked around the grass and pondered for a moment. "I'm a bit sad I can't offer any enlightenment on that matter. Botanical communication would come in handy now. Still, I hope you can forgive me." Amrita spoke the last sentence to the ground as she sat down and laid her palms flat on it. She was quiet for a moment as the faint scent of lavender sprung within the two of them. "You have quite the talent for this. Would you believe me if I say I don't have that much experience with flower crowns?" All the witch knew was how to flick a hand and have the flowers weave among themselves, but her doing it manually? She couldn't remember a single time she had done so. Maybe she ought to learn from Kui. "You're right. We need to plan a grand escape for the two of us. I could duplicate myself and leave it behind, but how can we get you out of here? Can you make an illusion of yourself? I could tunnel out of the forest, but by the time I made it even a bit outside Echo Acres, I'd probably pass out from exhaustion." She spoke softly, almost afraid of someone hearing her. After all, Amrita had broken rules and gotten in trouble before, and yet here she was, planning an escape that would surely end with her getting caught. "Maybe we should stick it out." She whispered, quick to give up to avoid becoming a nuisance to anyone.

Kui stood there, head still tilted with bewilderment as she explained. "I do know them—I am them." Their cheeks began to heat. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to presume...anything. But, this is my boutique. I'm Kui James." Maybe she had the wrong store, then? Kui couldn't think of any reason for a gift, let alone an apology, from someone they'd only briefly encountered before and honestly had no ill will towards, for any reason. "Um... I don't understand, what do you need to apologize for? If it's about the other day—" They cut themself off before they could get any more embarrassing. "It's not a bother, I've been up for hours..." They glanced at the storefront as a chill wind swept the sleepy boulevard, kicking up motes of frost. Whatever this was, there was no reason to discuss it out here in the open. Other stores were beginning to stir to life, and Kui didn't like the idea of being observed in this awkward situation. "Hey, it's pretty miserable out here, do you wanna come in, and have some tea or something while we get this sorted out?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Upon hearing a voice, Amrita nearly jumped out of her own skin. How embarrassing. If she was powerful enough she would use her earth manipulation to fully hide herself under the pavement, under dirt, under anything. As she steadily stood up and brushed some snow out of her skirt, she turned to look at the person who came out of the store. Wasn't the store closed? Oh gods. "Yeah. No I'm fine. This is fine. I'm totally fine." She lied quickly and gave the most reassuring smile she could. How could she screw this up already? "I... This is actually for the owner of the store..." Words came out jumbled as she mumbled before looking at the other's face. "Do you know them? Or work for them? It's not a sweethearts gift, I don't know them, and that might be kinda weird. Well, more than weird. Maybe inappropriate is the right word? I just. I need to apologize, so." Trembling hands came together as Amrita stood in a polite stance before Kui. "I'm so sorry to bother you this early."

Dilan’s eyes looked up at the person speaking to her, then to her open seat. Which had initially been for Leyla, but the event was booming so the likely hood of Leyla actually taking a break would be slim. “Ummm…” Looking the other up and down as she leaned back in her chair. “I guess you can sit.” Gesturing to the chair across from her. Giving a half smile as she continued to watch the people around her write their notes, while hers continued to be blank. Looking back towards the other as her smile dimmed slightly when she was reminded what day it was. “Ahhh, yes Valentine’s Day. Happy Valentine’s Day to you too.” She half heartedly replied. “Oh you don’t celebrate?” Perking up slightly at that. “Why not?”

"Sorry," she said as she squeezed by some other customers to get to speaking distance with Dilan. "Is this seat taken? I just wanted some lunch, and it's crowded everywhere else. I won't bother you for long! My lunch break ends in like half an hour? I can be quiet if you need me to be." Amrita assured Dilan, giving her a small smile. Whatever event was going on in the Daily Drip was of no interest to the young witch. She merely wanted to eat a breakfast sandwich for lunch accompanied by too much overly sweet coffee, and then just go back to work. "I guess I should be saying Happy Valentines! I don't celebrate this holiday in particular, but if you do, I hope you have a good one."

Kui nodded, and waved the wreath in a slow arc. "It's very welcome. But it might be hard for you to find a spot to sit in this crowd. I mean, with all the grass," they explained, then looked uncertain. "That was supposed to be a joke but I forgot for a moment that the grass actually might mind being sat on." Concern settled over their features like a worrying cloud, but they looked through the collection of flowers until they found some purples. "I've used some already and given some away, but there's still quite a few left." Kui twirled a small sprig of lavender between their thumb and forefinger, the scent distracting in a reassuring way. There was something hidden in that, reminiscent of bundles of herbs tucked away in a rarely-opened linen drawer, and they remembered Jai's hand, stronger than expected given his age, squeezing theirs when they couldn't find it in them to speak. They smiled, just a little, and leaned in conspiratorially. "I could cover you with illusions, if that would help? But it's hardly fair if you get to hide in your apartment and I don't get to go back to work, so what's in it for me? Where's my escape?"

The retreat was just starting, and already Amrita wanted to go back to her apartment. It was overwhelming to be surrounded by so many people. She wasn't really competitive. She liked winning, who didn't? But Amrita knew how to ignore her desires and well, getting competitive in a town like this one just felt... dangerous. She was opting to not sit out most events just to not be a bummer to the team she had been assigned to. Still, finding Kui in the town green felt like a breath of fresh air. Stretching her neck to ease some of her weariness, Amrita offered Kui a small smile. "No worries. I'd love one actually." It would be easy to make the flowers bloom or weave themselves, but doing so felt like a disservice to Kui's hard work. So instead, Amrita crouched down. "Is it okay if I keep you company for a little bit? Do you have any purple flowers?" They would go well with the purple ribbon adorning the top of her ponytail. All in remembrance of Mason, of course. "They are quite pretty. How many have you made?" There was a small pause. "Do you think anyone would notice if I snuck into to my apartment?" She joked before sighing softly.

( option b )

Kui hadn't felt much like going out in public lately, but they still wanted to see the lights of the festival and there was only so much that was visible from their bedroom or the storefront. That didn't mean they had to be seen, however. So, despite going through their usual routine and assembling a whole outfit—a woven shawl wrapped over a sweater that was almost a dress, wide-legged jeans heavy at the hem with embroidered geometric designs, and a long braids coiled around their head several times—they stayed hidden as they walked through the Town Green. Most people had wandered away, so the pixie didn't feel quite as tense as usual like this, but even invisible, it lingered. A constant weight on their shoulders, tightening the back of their neck and around their temples, making it impossible to relax. But as they heard the strains of a violin drifting from the gazebo, they glided past couples and families in the park, and settled on the railing, where no one would tread on them, to listen to the violinist play. She had her eyes closed in concentration but Kui felt drawn into the moment and soothed by the music, and began to contribute to the performance. Illusory seedlings sprouting motes of light, worked their way up through the floorboards and flowered around the violinist's feet, petals bursting, springing off wildly, and twisting down to the ground again, in bright azure and lavender swirls. They were just light, they made no noise and didn't actually touch anything. The musician stumbled on a note and opened her eyes, addressing someone who had been watching. Kui sent a flurry of butterfly-like scraps of light around the musician as she gave her apology to the other person, grinning imperceptibly from the sidelines. Iridescent embers landed on the violin itself, fluttering across the strings and the musician's hands. Kui sent one towards the other listener's nose, and stifled a giggle in their sleeve as they pulled back reflexively and swatted at it.

Option A: Mistletoe & Tree Shopping at Just In Bloom
"Looking for something specific?" Amrita asked someone passing by while doing her best to be super covert about the fact that a flower bloomed near the passerby. Not everyone was looking for trees, and bouquet orders were much more interesting than helping a few sad small trees look more leafy and full of life, so Amrita was hopeful the passerby was interested in the shop's flowers. "I'd be more than glad to help with whatever you're looking for!"

Option B: hours after the Lunar Cove's Town Green's Holiday Festival of Lights Tree Lighting Contest and Ceremony at the gazebo on Town Green
Lights were always comforting for Amrita during this time of year, but sometimes seeing lights ceremonies made Amrita think a bit too much about other holidays she used to spend accompanied, not alone like this year (and so many years before). Growing up her family never really decorated the house the way people did in town, and she couldn't exactly afford to follow suit into this tradition. However, what she did have was a violin and a candle, so as she sat on a corner of the gazebo, she lit the candle up with a match and took a deep breath. A little ceremony she did before each practice. Wondering if she should practice or not, she turned on the instrumental version of Experience by Einaudi and just before she started playing, she closed her eyes, hoping there weren't too many people close enough to be bothered by it. She began playing and made a small mistake, so she stopped, took a look at the music sheet and then looked around, having spotted someone (she hoped it wasn't a blown up decoration, that would be embarrassing). "Sorry for the noise," she mentioned, not in reference to the mistake, but just in case her playing bothered them. "I can wait and play later if you'd like." Though, she hoped it wasn't a problem, this was the best time for her to practice.

Option C: after the Nutcracker performance at the gazebo
"Here, you can have my scarf if you want." Noel said with a smile as they undid the scarf around their neck, careful to not get any of their grey rat make up on the scarf. Truthfully, they weren't that cold considering the amount of layers they had on. Performing the Nutcracker outside had been diabolical, but at least the kids were having fun. Just behind them were three kids daring each other to see how many small pastries they could each eat without getting sick, and while Noel tried to act like they couldn't hear the kids, they were secretly nearby in case something went wrong and someone needed CPR or to hand them a bag to puke on. "I'm not that cold." The rats costume for the performance were cozy enough to make her break a sweat while it happened. "So, what did you think?" She asked with a breezy smile.

Kui shuffled their feet, and began reeling back in threads of their thoughts gradually from the chaotic tangle of words they'd unravelled and left in a pile on Amrita's doorstep. "It was… good, I think? Or different—which is also good, in its own way." There wasn't much in the way of variety from day-to-day, not the way they lived. "All I've seen of the world as it is today is Lunar Cove and... whatever's on TV? So, it kind of felt like getting some context that I didn't really have before," they explained, then smiled. "Aside from the weird lack of payphones and the size of the cars, this town hasn't really changed that much on the surface." And the trip had given them some time and opportunity to interact with their new powers without the constant stress. A club atmosphere, all those heightened emotions—maybe not the most safe or moral way to learn, but siphoning had become gradually easier to manage over a few weeks, enough so that they no longer feared doing it unintentionally. "Lemonade sounds lovely," they said, and wrinkled their nose at the mention of the pastries. "I kind of... think they're the universe's pastries now?" Going back and picking up the box, with no explanation, would look truly bizarre, they imagined. "I might swing by and see if they're still there on my way home, but once I've done something, I prefer to commit and move on, rather than regret, you know?" Amrita's mood dipped, something they could sense immediately, and they hesitated but followed her inside. "You do seem out of sorts. You don't have to talk about it with me if you don't want to, though," they added hurriedly. "Also, what's a GMO?" That came with earnest curiosity. As far as they'd experienced, Amrita's interest in plants rivalled their own in sewing, so they hoped the question wasn't too obtuse or unwelcome.

There weren't many occasions were Amrita's doorbell went off without her expecting company, so at the sound, she jumped out of the couch, settling Plum down in her play pen before reaching from the front door. The past couple of days felt like a dream. The young witch couldn't believe what had happened, and what hadn't happened. Opening the door after checking the little peephole of her front door, she offered Kui a very tired smile. "Welcome back," was Amrita's response to Kui's rambling. Their rambling often mirrored her own, so she didn't mind it. "It's not weird that you showed up here. It's a pleasant surprise, really. Did you have a good trip?" She knew she couldn't ignore the elephant in the room. The masquerade ball. But just for a second, Amrita wanted nothing more than to ignore it. The fact that Kui had forgotten her pastries and had forgotten them made her giggle. "You can come in if you want. I have some lemonade and strawberry juice, or I could make tea. I have some cinnamon rolls we could have, but you'd probably need to go pick up the pastries, no? It'll be a waste if you don't go get them." There it was. Concern. Amrita knew she didn't deserve this especially coming from Kui. Even if the two had made amends, the young witch felt indebted to the fae. The mere question made her pout momentarily, eyes growing teary before she turned her back to Kui. "Please, come in. Let's talk inside. But heirloom seeds? That's really kind! I'm excited to plant them. Thank you for thinking of me. From my knowledge heirloom seeds are seeds that gardeners pass down from generation to generation. These are the seeds of many bountiful harvests, and are often quite clean, like non GMO kind of stuff." She turned to look at Kui again, now that her eyes were dry, and smiled more genuinely. "You really didn't have to go out of your way to get me pastries or seeds. I'm not hurt. Just... out of sorts? I don't really know."

Late nights frequently stretched into early mornings for Kui, especially around the holidays. Any poor souls who hadn’t had the good sense to plan their date night outfits ahead of time would not be left floundering, so help them. Blush Boutique had a reputation to uphold. But when motion out front caught their eye, they hastily abandoned their work to zip down and check who was out there. They froze when they recognized her—the musician they’d encountered in the gazebo. Obviously, she didn’t know that they’d somewhat met before, so... yeah, just acting normally should be fine? They tried to convince themself of it, without much confidence. Maybe she would just... go away, and any potential awkwardness could be avoided? But manners overrode nervousness when she stumbled and slid on the pavement. Kui dropped out of invisibility, and hurriedly opened the security gate and the door, stooping to offer a hand to help her up. “You okay? That looked like it hurt. I should probably sand out here again,” they muttered. Avoiding direct eye contact, they noticed the package on the ground and tilted their head inquisitively trying to figure out what it meant. Ah, some folks gave presents around Valentine’s, didn't they. It was a little strange to drop it off at a workplace, and so early, but people did tend to get real odd with these sorts of things. "If that’s a sweet hearts gift for one of the staff, I really can’t recommend leaving it outside in the snow like this. I can pass it on to the recipient for you, when we open?" they offered. "If you don't want them to know who it's from, I won't tell."

Amrita knew food and gifts didn't fix everything. She knew that some things, some actions, went too far. But having broken into the Town Hall more than a couple of weeks prior and having read some transcripts with very, very personal details required some action on her part. Still, the young witch had avoided it. She had thrown away many letters in an attempt to apologize over ink without having to face Kui. Any sort of glimmer of a good self-image had crumpled away in New Years. Still, Kui should know that Amrita now knew things and should be held responsible. So, she made some red velvet cookies in the shapes of little bears and wrote a lengthy apology. It was early enough in the day that Amrita was confident the boutique was closed, so her goal was to leave the cookies on the door attacked by a bow and just walk away, but of course as she took a step to leave the front door of the store, she slipped on some snow and fell on the ground. "Heavens!" She wheezed as she hit the cold, wet pavement floor.
